Awesome, I've been wondering about these bracelets...my bf also has a brother who is battling inoperable brain cancer and also has a wife and two young kids, so DC's family's story has hit pretty close to home.

Good God.

Find it in your heart to just give, without expectations.

The cost won't break anyone.

Lisa, I got an e-mail from Jamie yesterday after I'd asked about the bracelet I ordered a couple of weeks ago. Here was her reply:

I initially underestimated the demand for the bracelets, and now I've had to place another order from the factory. I should be getting them in the next week, and they will be mailed out soon after I get them. Yours will be among the first to be sent out from the second batch, so I would expect it about the second week of June. You'll definitely have it in time for the tour!

Thanks for your support, and your patience!

~Jamie

I lost both my parents to lung cancer and my mom had it spread to her brain. Cancer of any kind is devastating to the entire family and my heart goes out to anyone fighting this disease.

Everyone can have their own opinions, obviously, but I tend to think that you shouldn't assume anything in terms of the needs of a family whose father has been stricken with a severe case of cancer. Tons of medical bills, loss of wages, possibly also the need for additional child care, etc. It's a pretty devastating thing. If he doesn't make it, there will be a lot of additional needs for that family. Sure, I assume that David will pitch in, but ultimately, if folks want to help this family, that seems okay and, given how long he's been fighting this cancer, it seems actually quite appropriate.

Thanks for the info, Lisa. I went ahead and got two of the black ones just because I liked the color best. Either of these are for a worthy cause, though, IMO.

reinharv, you're correct, it's not brain cancer it's just what I call it. Mine had 37 brain tumors and a small touch of cancer in another part of his body. His lungs had another type of disease caused by working in a building loaded with Asbestos. He never smoked nor drank. He died when the tumors hemorrhaged but by then he was already in a coma, lungs were bad & other complications. He went 5 weeks to the day after his tumors were found. It's horrible to watch someone die from this. My sister's grandson had one tumor 1/3 the size of his brain, which they did in fact get out. Doing chemo on the cancer that spread to his spine now. Gotta close my door now to feelings I really don't want to go back through.

Cancer is just one ugly disease. I could not even fathom how David was able to get up on the stage week after week & perform. He had to reach into a place that he never knew he had that is for sure. He is one strong man. I have a long list of people on my daily prayers, Adam included. His family needs strength also.

If besides being a Star, David can bring more attention/money into the cancer foundation, then I am a'right with that. If David's fans bring in more money to the cause, I'm all for it. Yeah, just a good thing to do IMHO.

I was glad to see this and ordered immediately. I lost my mom to brain cancer 3 years ago.

Today is the 14th anniversary of my then 15 year old (now 29) daughter's diagnosis with thyroid cancer. She goes to Mayo Clinic yearly but thankfully lives a normal life.

Cancer is a horrible disease striking at any age. I support anything that will help find a cure.

The AC initials on Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s guitar is a tribute to his brother, who has spent the last few years fighting a very tough battle against the illness

David Cook is superstitious. He puts "AC" on everything because both of his brothers' initials are "AC" for Adam and Andrew. He thinks it will bring him good luck.

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s right to collect donations for someone who isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t going to be short of financial support in the near future.

OUCH for real. David Cook had no money before this competition and it will be sometime before he does. This brother's medical bills must have been astronomical. I can't imagine what a strain that is on a family. There are things that plans don't cover and plenty of out-of-pocket. He's only 36 with two young kids and if he passes, he'll leave a widow with two very young kids. I am sure that David Cook would give all his money to him if he could because I think he's that type of guy. His family means the world to him.

This is a good cause and these types of organizations know the type of financial strain it is on any family--especially with such a prolonged suffering. He sure is a fighter and he's beat the odds that's for sure.

My father was diagnosed with a brain tumor (there is no such thing as brain cancer) which means cancer cells started somewhere and traveled to his brain. My father had 5 tumors and after he was diagnosed, he died within the year. They never found the source of the cancer. So it was quick but we kept hoping. His medical care was covered (Canada) but I can't imagine what those out-of-pocket expenses have been for his brother and family and just the need to trying to beat this and find a cure. My father was 60 when he died--that's just 2 years older than me. So many cancers now aren't a death sentence if you fight it and catch it early.

"David Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s kind effort will benefit two different groups of Cancer patients."

I don't think this is Cook's idea, it sounded like a bunch of his friends from Tulsa got this idea together as I read the narrative from the link provided. David Cook was pretty good about keeping that sad fact private during the competition and has never said anything about his fans doing anything. He has very good friends and he's said that this friends means the world to him, and no wonder he loves them.

Well, any money raised for someone in need is okay in my book. I don't really care what the "motives" of the fans are. Maybe they were just inspired by David and his brother's situation.

I'm a big fan of Ace and I love this quote from him:

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve also discovered that the true value of celebrity is that it expands our ability to be able to help others

If that is happening because of David Cook, then more power to him and his generous fans!

Thank you, Lisa. I am sorry for the loss of your family members, especially an innocent child. The only family member besides my dad who had cancer was my cousin. She had a brain tumor that kept growing back everytime they operated. She died one month after her 50th birthday. Sadly, it can strike anyone at any age.

Gwen, karma. Exactly!!

The effects of cancer on a family are simply staggering. I'm sure most of us have been touched by it in one way or another. No matter what the outcome, this small contribution probably won't even put a dent in their financial needs. I'm aghast. Seriously.

Just the possibility of a horrendous disease leaving a wife without her husband, children without their father, a father without his son, and a brother without his brother...that's heartbreaking. Whatever can be done to go toward finding a cure, I'll do my part. I've done it before, and I'll do it now. For me, it's the right thing to do.

Gosh...just karma.

Lisa, you made me cry.

I did not mean to make you cry. :cry_wp: I am so sorry for the loss of your father. I know how hard the loss is.

I also lost my grandmother to uterine cancer & my nephew to a very rare cancer when he was also 3 yrs old . Too much cancer in my family that is for sure.

For me, this is a great cause. Any cancer cause to me is just awesome. It really should be cured, like NOW.

Lisa, you made me cry. I lost my father to bone and prostate cancer almost 20 years ago. I will make a donation in memory of my father, also. It is personal and that's the least we can do.

Prayers for your sister's grandchild.
