She’s got a brand-new single on iTunes AND she’ll be performing it on this week’s (Thurs) results show .

Says Brooke:

  • Deejay

    Yay, Brooke!

  • Fender

Sweet!!! I can’t wait to see Brooke again… should be good promo for her single too.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

YAY! I loved Brooke so much last year. I can’t wait to see her again and hear her new single! :)

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Wow! That’s pretty awesome. I love that they seem to be supporting the ones they didn’t sign by featuring them on the show.

  • hardkandy

Yay I can’t wait! I hope I can get a rip of that single somewhere online, I really wanna buy it but iTunes store does not care about our country! LOL. Thanks for putting this up front MJ.

  • hypertwink

The snippet I heard wasn’t enticing but hopefully, it sounds better when she sings the full song.

  • madmike2276

Hopefully she wont forget her words and have to restart her song.

  • prop joe

Hopefully she wont forget her words and have to restart her song.

    :lol_tb:
I usually like my female singer-songwriters with more edge and range but Brooke is one of the more interesting AI contestants ever and I enjoyed most of her performances last season. She also has that undeniable appeal and charm that make people get past her limitations, do-overs and all.

The snippet sounds nice and perky-it suits her and it’s what I expected. Plus I think that stuff can sell, coupled with this appearance on the show and her solid fanbase. This is exciting!

Does the single release mean she’s finalized her label negotiations?

ETA: Her duet with MJ was also released on iTunes recently and wow, she looks gorgeous in the photos for both.

  • sylvanaire

I’m liking the 30 second clip on iTunes, and am looking forward to hearing the whole thing tomorrow. I’m pleased she is getting her music out there. Go Brooke!

  • seattle_girl

Forgot how much I liked Brooke’s tone. The song, eh, not so sure about. Want to hear the whole thing before deciding. Am I the only one who heard more of a country-lite twang than folk? Noooo Brooke, stay away from the light!!!

  • Grammie Kari

I agree. There is something about Brooke I have not found in the girls competiting in the TOP 36 this year. I anticipated each performance and hoped she’d make it through. Usually I was pleased.

  • brie200

I have no opinion on the song yet since I haven’t heard more than the snippet, but it looks like she released this single independently, based on the info on Itunes. Which makes me think her record deal negotiations still aren’t finished, because she hasn’t said a word about that. Unless she’s planning on doing it on the show or something.

I do think Brooke is refreshing as compared to most of what we’ve seen so far this year. I look forward to seeing her tomorrow–and I certainly hope she sounds better than MJ/Carly last week.

  • hardkandy

Aww I wish I could hear more than the snippet. Dammit, I have to find a way to hear the whole song.

But I did like it based on what little I heard… but Brooke can sing anything and I will love it so that’s expected =)

  • miknge

I only heard the snippet. I can’t wait to hear the whole song on the show tomorrow. Hooray!

  • t2

Happy for Brooke, at least they aren’t making her rehash The Letter again….grumble, grumble.

  • Little Boy Blue

You know, instead of the Carly Smithson/Michael Johns duet last week, I kinda wish it was the Michael Johns/Brooke White duet of LIFE IS OK.

That song was GRRREAT and really should be promoted. Unfortunately, we won’t hear it on our radio. We’ll continue be listening to a lot of crap out there.

  • bean99

Good for Brooke. As a big Michael fan I wish he’d have gotten a chance to do his single instead of that duet with Carly.

  • SpenserJ

Good for Brooke. As a big Michael fan I wish heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d have gotten a chance to do his single instead of that duet with Carly.

As a big Brooke fan, I agree :) I think that duet is really good.

If Brooke is really on my tv tonight, I might go a little fangirly. I’ve missed her. I love her voice, and she has such a great attitude.

  • jpfan

Very nice for Brooke. That’s the third S7 finalist back already. Which is unusual because they usually only bring people back if they’re on the 19 payroll or have big hits out. I’m guessing they don’t want too much contrast with the lackluster S8 finalists and any big guns. Plus it does give the show a “family” vibe. Who comes back next week? Castro doing Hallelujah again? Or maybe Chiceze.

It would make more sense to bring Archie back this early to promote his struggling single and give the album sales a boost.

Why does it seem like these people are finding out they’re on the show the day before? Very odd.

  • leome

This is awesome! Can’t wait to see her again on the show. And really smart of her to release this on Itunes before she performs it, at least she has something to sell.

  • miknge

I love the song. Earnest, heartfelt and Brooke!

  • kegler5088

Why is everyone only listening to the snippet!? Buy the song and enjoy it! It really is a great song for Brooke and very…her! Love it. Support Brooke…she deserves this. It will be great hear her live tonight.

  • Sarah

Oh, good job, Brooke! I so love her voice, and I’ve missed her! Definitely getting it. And one for my daughter, too.

  • erennick

Excited for Brooke! Love her! I just re-watched her semi-final performances on youtube. Oh how I miss you Season 7! Singing in key, musical instruments, live band and good lighting.

  • Dr. Tracey

I think it’s nice that they are promoting last season’s contestants.

  • hardkandy

I love Brooke probably more than any other musician that has walked this planet (no lie!) but this single is kinda old fashioned, I don’t see her pushing a lot of albums with this one. SO I am hoping that since in a video for her website, she said that it’s a sneak peek single, that it’s not her official first single. She needs something catchier and more modern in order to sell more albums and get radio airplay.

I think this is more of a rush release so she can have something out there before she performs on AI tonight, which is pretty smart coz it’s very good promotion for her and it’d be a waste not to use it. But I’m still holding out for a catchier single. But if not, I’ll take what I can get… if there is one singer I can listen to singing anything, anything at all. It’s her.

  • Little Boy Blue

RE: I love her voice, and she has such a great attitude.

This is the devil in me talking — I’d love for her to start the song and then stop and repeat from the beginning. Signature Brooke !! HEH HEH HEH

  • spritely

Wow, I haven’t commented here in ages, but I just have to say that I just now bought Brook’s song and I think it’s adorable. There are some high notes that are are so sweet and pure, and the song is very catchy, or at least it is for me.

  • snoozy

Does the single release mean sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s finalized her label negotiations?

Brooke has an album coming out on June 2nd called ‘High Hopes and Heartbreak’.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Why is everyone only listening to the snippet!? Buy the song and enjoy it!

Because maybe, for some reason, they can’t buy it right now?

    Don’t lecture fellow posters, please.

Having said that, I can’t wait to see Brooke on my TV tonight.

  • oceana

Hmm, I liked Brooke on the show and I just bought the single. The sound is excellent, pure and beautiful, but the words and theme are depressing. The narrator is “not as pretty as I used to be” and her man is losing interest in her, and she’s begging him not to discard her. True that a lot of women are dumped by their husbands for younger newer models, but is that a song that’s going to be popular with a lot of people?

I don’t think very many want to picture themselves as the protaganist of this song. I think if my husband wanted to dump me because I was getting older, I’d tell him “good riddance” but I wouldn’t be begging him to stay. Why is Brooke singing such a downer song? Seems to me like a wasted opportunity on her part. Her first single, and this is it? There were better songs on her pre-Idol cd I think. As I said, the sound is beautiful, but what downer lyrics.

  • hardkandy

Her first single, and this is it? There were better songs on her pre-Idol cd I think

Yeah I agree that there are better songs on the pre-idol cd. This isn’t confirmed as the official first single though. At least I hope it’s not. She can do better. Though I like the song, I don’t think it will get too many people to buy her album.

I’m hoping this is something like what Michael Johns did with the whole Don’t Look Down soundtrack – just try to get some sounds out there to appease the fans but none of those songs are actually his single yet.

  • tinawina

    BROOOOOKKKEEEEEE!!!!!!!

I love the song, by the way. :)

  • miknge

LOL! I agree with oceana about the lyrics, but I guess maybe, that’s the norm right now?? I mean come on! Even Kelly’s singing My Life Would Suck Without You, LOL!

  • oceana

LOL true about Kelly’s narrator also being a girl who accepts a less-than-perfect relationship, but at least her song is young and peppy. And it has the word “suck” in it, which will account for a lot of sales in itself.

But seriously, Brooke isn’t old, she’s young, but she’s singing a song that an older woman would sing who’s lost her looks. Oh well. At least the production allowed Brooke’s beautiful voice to come through loud and clear.

It’ll be nice to see her tonight though. And this made me buy the Michael Johns duet, which is great.

  • tinawina

I don’t think most people listen that closely to the topic of the lyrics. If the chorus is catchy enough all is well. I don’t think she’s trying to go pop anyway. We’ll see where they’re taking this…

  • LovelyLady

Happy for her. I haven’t listened yet, but will. Something to look forward to on tonight’s show for sure! Hope she does well.

  • spritely

Shallow checking in here again, lol. I didn’t even listen closely to all the lyrics the first couple of times, but just loved the melody and her singing of it. Now, having paid attention–thanks to the comments here–I am really touched by them. She’s addressing something important, actually, and a theme that many women can understand, no matter their age. I have a really clear memory of seriously bemoaning to a couple of guys that I was too old–when I turned 25! I also remember they laughed at me, lol, but still. . .I was feelin’ it, ’cause our society is as it is in regard to female appearance. Anyway, I love pretty songs with dark meanings, so you may take that bias of mine into consideration. Having said that, I like the song even better now.

This all surprises me. I didn’t expect to be a big Brook fan, although I loved her in concert.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

I just bought it and really like it. I think the lyrics are ones that an awful lot of women can relate to, unfortunately. But what a beautiful, clear voice! Reminds me of Judy Collins at times.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gundomom CarieB

Don’t love the song but love her, so I bought it anyway. Looking forward to seeing her on the show tonight. I agree she radiates something missing from most of this year’s females. Go Brooke!

  • primeminister

I really like Brooke, and I’m happy to see that she has a single and album coming out. However, I downloaded the song and am not liking it as much as I had hoped. It’s so OLD! She had more radio-friendly tunes on her pre-idol album, imo.

Anyway, she is definitely missed this season….

  • sma11ie

I love Brooke, so I’m thrilled she’ll be performing. Haven’t bought the song or heard the snippet, waiting to hear the performance first– but hopefully I’ll like it. Hm… wonder if she’ll be allowed an instrument… cuz that might suck otherwise.

  • sparklesgirl2

    The 30-second clip sounds great!

    What is Brooke’s twitter handle?

  • CookorHubbyHmm

I hope she does well. She’s a good soul.

  • Hunysings

Her twitter is babblingbrookie She is actually updating twitter a BUNCH!

So the song, it very fresh and organic. I find it funny I heard a trumpet at the beginning of the song (she says in a VLOG she loves trumpet solos) It shows off her voice more, the range is SO much more than what Brooke has showed in the past, and without the over synthesizing her voice you can hear the quality of her raspy, true voice. Compare that to SFTA, which has synthesized drums, keys, strings, it’s hard to tell each intrument, or Brooke from hundreds of other of pop stars. Here, you KNOW it’s Brooke the first few notes.

Yes it does recall sounds of the 70′s (It reminded me of “You Light Up My Life” and “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head”) But what is old is new again. Just as fashion is recreating the 70s in a new but familar style, Brooke is doing that with the music.

  • brie200

I think they are saving Archie and Cook until we hit the big stage. Not to mention obviously their schedules are harder to work out with the touring and what not. I do wonder if AI is using the S7 folks as their easy go to people when they realize it’s a day or two before airtime and they’ve got no big stars on the horizon. Plus it has to be fairly cheap to get them back. It’s good publicity for all of them as they work on their albums. I’m certainly not complaining.

Excited to see Brooke tonight. Wonder who we get next week. Sy? Jason? Chik?

  • Victoria

I actually like the single. I think there are better songs on her previous album, but hopefully her second single will be even better.

Good for Brooke. As a big Michael fan I wish heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d have gotten a chance to do his single instead of that duet with Carly

Definately. I love Carly, but we’ve already heard them sing “The Letter,” anyway.

I think they are saving Archie and Cook until we hit the big stage.

I hope so! They deserve it!

I hope it’s not ALL Idol people, though. Simon said he had a long list of people he wants to perform on the show, including Britney Spears. That should be interesting..

  • brie200

Victoria, but IMO they aren’t going to get the big artists for these semi final rounds with the tiny stage and etc. I’m sure we’ll see the usual non Idol recording artists once we hit the Top 12. I think this is just giving some of the more recent Idols an outlet as well as giving AI cheap entertainment.

  • hardkandy

She blogged on MySpace about it, can’t link it here coz MySpace is blocked at the office but I liked what she said. She knows it’s old school but she said her album is a progression, or something like that. Haha. Anyway.. I do like this song even if it’s a bit old school for my taste and I cannot wait for the other songs in her album.

  • bean99

I can’t say I really liked Brooke’s single but it was nice to see her on the idol stage and be confident.

  • hardkandy

The single is #4 on iTunes pop and #12 on the iTunes 100 now. Yay for Brooke! Good on her for putting her AI guesting to good use.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

I’m happy for Brooke and was especially glad to see that AI still owns a piano.

  • schwtz71

Brooke’s new song is beautiful! I just downloaded it. She should have been the winner. She’s beautiful inside and out! You go Brooke!
