Update:Â   Not quite a record deal yet…read all about what Brooke White is up to HERE.

This item was buried deep within a fluffy Entertainment Weekly “Where Are They Now” feature:

Brooke White: Card-carrying ”Dawg Pound” member? You’d best believe it, seeing how it was Idol judge Randy Jackson who introduced White to Sanctuary Records CEO Carl Stubner, resulting in her deal with the indie label.

Brooke White has signed a record deal? Where’s the press release? The 5,000 word blog from Brooke?

At any rate–Congratulations Brooke! I could not believe 19 didn’t snap you up when they had the chance. FYI: Brooke has sold over 12K of her pre-Idol album Songs from the Attic. Not bad.

And it’s nice to know Randy Jackson is useful to these kids post-season, even if his “Dawg” and “Yo” peppered judges critiques are not.

I’m happy for her. She’s got this authentic, sweet, modern hippy vibe about her and this indie label sounds like a good “home.” Thanks, Randy!

  • IdolFanatic

Sweet! I am so happy for her! I actually think an indie label will work better for her with the way major labels tend to drop artists like a hot potato who don’t go platinum the first year. Not saying she can’t go platinum, but it is tough these days for any artist to do so.

  • kerfuffle

I’m very happy for her and will be anxiously awaiting her CD. She was my second favorite last season, just behind Jason, and ahead of Cookie. Love Cookie’s CD. Now I just have to wait for Jason. Any word on him releasing a CD anytime soon? Anyone?

Guess Randy ain’t droppin’ names for nothin’.

    Congratulations, Brooke.

I can’t wait for this one.

Brooke White: Card-carrying à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Dawg Poundà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ member? Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d best believe it, seeing how it was Idol judge Randy Jackson who introduced White to Sanctuary Records CEO Carl Stubner, resulting in her deal with the indie label.

Sanctuary was purchased by the Universal Music Group in 2007 (it used to be the largest independent label in the UK). UMG has the largest share of record sales in the world. So, she’s kind of on an indie label at one of the four majors.

Good for her. Lots of good news these days.

  • SpenserJ

    I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t wait for this one.

Amen to that sister. Hmm, now do I actually have to say something nice about Randy? Because that might actually be painful for me.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Hmm, now do I actually have to say something nice about Randy?

Hehe. See if you can do it with only five words. Could be a challenge.

Wonder how he introduced her to Carl Stubner. “Yo, it’s Brooke White, dawg!”

Having connections can be very useful, even if it’s Randy Jackson.

    I’m glad it worked out.

  • SpenserJ

    Wonder how he introduced her to Carl Stubner. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Yo, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Brooke White, dawg!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I think I’d somehow have to use the phrase “Jumpin’ off” since Randy used that about 40 times last night. It would appear that’s his new catch phrase. I’m going to start a counting meter.

  • brie200

Good for her! Though I too am surprised that she hasn’t announced it herself or that there hasn’t been any press releases or anything. I think an indie is best for her as well.

kerfuffle, as of last week Jason was still talking March for a cd and supposedly he’s been in negotiations somewhere for quite awhile. I have no idea if he’s trying to negotiate with a major or an indie though. With him, who knows.

  • sma11ie

I agree– this is great news, and I don’t understand why it was buried in a picture-thingie in EW. A popwatch blog item would’ve been better exposure. Anyway, I hope she gets some Mindy Doolittle-sized love from EW when her record comes out. They’ve been doing a great job with MD on EW.

  • kerfuffle

Thanks, brie200! Where did he talk about this? On his YouTube? I’m woefully behind. I agree with Kirsten re: “lots of good news these days”. Yay. Hopefully there will be a few of the hopefuls this season to capture my heart. There are some promising ones so far. I’ll know more after Hollywood Week/Top 50/36/12.

  • Jolene

Good news! Brooke was my 2nd favorite last season after Cook, and I think she has lots of potential.

Keeping track – is she the first from last season to sign with an indie label? I know Carly and Michael have management, and I’m not sure if Jason has management or not, but is this the first label announcement?

  • brie200

Jolene, I think it’s the first non 19 label annoucement. MJ did announce his distribution deal awhile back, but he’s not planning on signing with a label.

kerfuffle, Jason never said that outright in a vid or anything. It’s mostly news gathered from people who have talked to him at various events, as recently as last weekend at the Santa Barbara film festival. Hopefully something will get settled soon.

It’s about time someone sign her. I agree that 19 was foolish to pass on Brooke. I’m very happy for her and I can’t wait to hear some new music from her in the near future. :)

  • dv

fantastic news, i cant wait to hear what she comes up with.

  • Ladybug

I am one of those 12K buyers. I love “Songs from the Attic.” I listen to it a lot. This is indeed good news and I am very much looking forward to an album from her. Here’s hoping they don’t “ruin” her unique sound.

  • itsalleternal

    Congratulations Brooke!!!

I’m sure her second album (first post-Idol album) will be really good as well.

Non-19E signings from Season 7 so far:

Brooke White – signed with Sanctuary Records, major distributor?

Michael Johns – signed with TRP Records, seeking a distributor (rumors of Sony?).

Amanda Overmyer – not really a signing, but she started up a record company. Still that counts as being signed.

David Hernandez – signed with Bungalo Records where he released a single.

Josiah Leming (top 50) – signed with Warner Music (well-publicised).

Jason Rich (cut Hollywood week) – signed with VSR Music Group with EMI distribution.

No semi-finalists have been signed yet.

  • itsalleternal

As for 19E, why did you pass over Brooke (and Jason and Carly and even Syesha) for Kristy Lee?

KLC clearly had little chance of success, and it showed.

  • aly

Deliver me from the blog about it………….

  • daenarys

Great news! Brooke was my early favourite last season. Just love her soulful voice and sweet personality. She’s got such hyooooooge potential. The key is getting the right songs. She could so totally blow up like Colbie Callait / Norah Jones. That song she did with Micheal Johns (Life if okay) is beautiful. Has it charted yet?

  • brie200

Brooke is far better off being passed up by 19. First of all, she’s the type of person who would have hated being strapped into that. Can you imagine if they were trying to rush Brooke with her music? She’s much better off this way. Much better off. As a fan I’m thankful they let her get away. I’m also thankful they didn’t get their paws on Carly, Jason or some of the others for that matter.

  • Tess

Congrats to a fellow Arizonan. Brooke is a lovely girl with a beautiful and unique voice. To me she is really retro and reminds of all of the good things about growing up in the late 60s. I envision myself listening to Brooke on those magical days when I am laying ocean side on my own private island and just enjoying being alive. Good things come to nice people….it proves to me that you don’t need all the phony stuff (anyone say Bikini girl) to succeed.

  • hardkandy

I know she’s with Sanctuary Group management, I don’t know if she’s also with the record label. She doesn’t announce much business things in her blog though so I won’t be surprised.

I hope it is true, but I won’t get too excited til I see her on the official artists list so I won’t be too disappointed if it turns out to be not true.

At any rate, I know she’s working on her album and I am very excited for that, no matter which label she releases it on. I love her voice, probably my favorite voice ever ever ever, and I am so excited in hearing more from her.

  • Lino

Michael Johns signed with TRP Records a lot of time ago. His management is the Three Ring Project (the same as Elliot) and they created TRP Records. He has released a christmas song (Another Christmas) and a soundtrack (“Don’t Look Down”) with TRP Records, you can buy it on amazon and itunes. His single will be out in february and his album in march. He has a distribution deal with a major label, he said it. There are rumors that the distribution will happen through Sony. TRP Records distributes through Universal Fontana. We don’t know the distributor yet, but it is major.

    Just aswering some questions.

    Congrats to Brooke…

  • SallyinIllinois

I believe Randy is a “good” word for a lot of Idols that he likes….did you know Syesha is performing for the NAACP? Betcha Randy had something to do with that.

  • leome

This is pretty good. I really can’t wait to listen to new music from her.
And it’s great Randy put some good word.
