Finally! A season 7 alumni with a CD I actually want to buy :)

  • cheese

Aww, I wanted to buy it, but it’s too twangy for my taste and I know I won’t listen to it. I bought her cover of “Use Somebody.”

  • leome

What’s up with the cover? She photographs so well but she looks like a ghost there.

That’s a very pleasant album, I wish her music was more modern and not so old, but it makes good company. Her independent album sounded a bit more fresh, though more cliche.
I like When We Were One, reminds me of Sarah Bettens (K’s Choice).

  • brie200

Like the album. Hate the cover picture. Why is it so hard to have good cover art these days? Good luck to Brooke though.

  • hardkandy

Like the album. Hate the cover picture.

haha yeah, she looks so freaking pale and sickly. I saw some new pics on her Facebook where she looks so so so much better.

But I haven’t heard the album yet coz I don’t have iTunes store, but I listened to the clips and I do like it, but I love Brooke, so yeah. haha.

  • suebrody

I like it a lot and will download it. I like the “twangy” side of it; sounds more country than folk, which I prefer (a pleasant surprise for me, since I am not really a Carole King/Joni Mitchell fan . And I have been downloading a lot of songs lately, so I’m glad it’s only $7.99. ;-)

Good on Brooke. Good luck to her!

  • mgk

Well, I just bought it since she was my favorite last year. I haven’t listened to many of the songs yet, but I like “Sometimes Love” and her cover of “Use Somebody”.

I think the album cover looks like a throwback to the 70s singer/songwriter covers.

“I think the album cover looks like a throwback to the 70s singer/songwriter cover”

At first I didn’t like the cover but when you put it like that I’m kinda looking at it in a different light.
The photo does look throwback. Now I kinda like it. Thanks!

  • brie200

The album cover does look like a throwback. That’s fine. I don’t mind that at all. It’s the picture I don’t like. It barely even looks like Brooke.

Yay, new music from Brooke! She was my favorite girl last year and 2nd favorite overall, so I’m definitely getting this. Just trying to decide whether to download or wait til next week and get a physical copy. Hmm.

  • BootStar

That’s some awesome marketing they’ve done for Brooke. She’s got a huge banner ad on the front page of iTunes and, when you combine that with the free video and the terrific price to buy the full album, I expect she does very well with her initial sales. Heck, I don’t even like the music that much, but I have a hard time resisting a good bargain! And I actually like the album art; it’s definitely retro, but at least it LOOKS like Brooke.

  • 2dogs

I’m joining the line that says like the album, hate the cover art. It doesn’t look like Brooke! The cover art for her little indie pre-Idol album was better than this.

But I really like her version of Use Somebody and, overall, find this a fun, throw-back sound. The title song High Hopes and Heartbreak almost has a disco feel to it.

  • ShabbyChic

I listened to all the snippets on itunes. I will be ordering a hard copy on Amazon.

  • sma11ie

I think she said in the facebook fan thing that she was going for a Bee Gees sound on that song ;) .

Absolutely. I speculated earlier that the iTunes exclusive for a week was in return for ad space, and if that’s the case, I think it’s really well-played. The folky, singer-songwriter stuff tend to do great on iTunes. IIRC, Erin McCarley also had a digital exclusive release before the physical was dropped. The free video will get non-Idol fans on iTunes to check her out. Brilliant.

I think I saw her last at #9 on the top albums feed? Go Brookie!

If a Brooke White album drops on iTunes does it make a sound?

  • abbysee

If a Brooke White album drops on iTunes does it make a sound?

Thud? J/K, love Brooke, but it was hanging over the plate like a giant volleyball, so I had to take a swing.

  • Suzanne

Just listened to some of the snippets over at itunes. (the picture there is way better than on the album–so weird that they’d take that shot. looks terrible. Like she’s dying of Consumption or “the vapors” or she’s up for the part of Daisy in a remake of the Great Gatsby.)

I may buy the album (and I buy nothing). It’s a little slow, but I really like Phoenix, High Hopes and Heartbreak, and Radio Radio. And some of the others with grow on me.

This is a tough biz, eh? So flooded with material. Even figuring out a market on radio for these songs is hard. And when Boom Boom Pow is what people . . . well, I completely do not get what’s going on.

  • Suzanne

    MJ–what do you think?

  • heart2

Gee..I really wanted to like it. But, I don’t. Little Bird is catchy tho! maybe I need to give another listen.

  • 2dogs

It seems to be off to a strong start — No 6 on iTunes albums! Good for Brooke. I am eager to hear more about the tour. I hope success = more dates and location closer to where I live.

I really love Brooke and I love most of the songs. I’m not big on alot of today’s music because it all sounds so generic. I mean when you listen to a song from so many artists, you can say hey it sounds alot like so and so. With Brooke, she gives music a fresh old/new sound that you’d have to go back 30yrs or so to find anyone like her. Her voice is so pure and beautiful and doesn’t resort to being overprocessed that it becomes unrecognizable. I’ll definately be buying this album and I wish her only the best.

  • ShabbyChic

I broke down and bought it on itunes because I did not feel like waiting for Amazon to ship it. I like to have the hard copy though, so I will probably be buying one of those too. I really like the cd. Today has been a good day. Daughtry and Brooke all in one day!

  • xdahlia

Brooke looks so different on the album cover…

  • ozarka

Right now, her album is #5 overall and #2 in Pop. I’m so happy for her. From her tweet, you can tell she’s very happy too…

while I was driving i got a call about the top 10 nws, i was so excited I hit the steering wheel with my hand and bruised my finger, ouch

I just bought it. Thanks for the link mj. :)

I’m glad that Brooke’s album dropped, but who’s that on her album cover?

  • SpenserJ

I’m glad that Brooke’s album dropped, but who’s that on her album cover?

I’m pretty sure it’s Sheryl Crow.

Seriously, Brooke is gorgeous – but that picture looks nothing like her!

  • BootStar

Seriously, Brooke is gorgeous – but that picture looks nothing like her!

It looks a heckuva lot more like her than that photo from last week!

  • SpenserJ

Someone is out of control with the photoshop! I just don’t get it. She’s beautiful. She’s not even chubby, so you don’t have to “sculpt” away her double chin. WTF are they doing?

  • Jlyn

I bought it. I like it. It’s worth $7.99. (Good pricing strategy, I probably wouldn’t have bought the whole thing at $9.99 or higher – I suspect there are many others like me.) Brooke reminds me of Bo. A genuine throwback sound. If you like it and want more they are great. If your one copy of Tapestry or Skynyrd is enough then not so much.

One of the things that stood out to me on the album is that Brooke uses back-up singers. So much of today’s music is layering the voice of the lead singer only. I really enjoyed hearing actual back-up vocals. The album in general is nicely done and not over-produced.

  • LadyBeBop

Double pleasant surprise. I thought I had to wait until next week to download it from iTunes (my record store of choice). And pay $13.95 as well.

Randy Jackson is listed as executive producer.

Listening to “Sometimes Love” right now. Did she do one of those patented Brooke do-overs?

  • hardkandy

    She’s #4 now, I think that’s pretty awesome :)

  • primeminister

#1 in the pop catalogue :)

  • lizland

This is great news for Brooke. I wish her the best and hope she gets some radio play. Seems she’ll move quite a few more units than Michael Johns, or maybe that’s only because this is only at iTunes right now?

  • http://randomizeme.wordpress.com arca

I bought it – I loved Brooke last year and I want to support her. The sound is definitely retro and a throw-back to a previous decade and all that. I’m not sure how well this will sell though to those outside AI … The songs kinda blend together for me and I really can’t imagine hearing them on the radio…

  • tinawina

I have been trying to avoid this thread in order to fight the temptation to get it from ITunes… I want the CD instead. But y’all are tempting me…

  • lucy

I’m not sure how well this will sell though to those outside AI ‘ ¦ The songs kinda blend together for me and I really can’t imagine hearing them on the radio’ ¦

Yeah, I wonder this, too. Listening to them on itunes, I get a smile on my face because I think, Awwww….Brooke! But that obviously doesn’t sell music to people who don’t already like Brooke as a person, really. And the songs do kind of run together. I’m not inclined to buy the whole album, even though I do think, Awww…Brooke! when I hear her. Just trying to figure out a couple of songs that I like best so I can have a little Brooke on my ipod to make me smile every once in a while.

  • SashaB

    Go Brooke!

#4 on iTunes? That’s awesome. Great promo on iTunes as well.

Yeah, I wanted an actual CD, too. But now I might have to go to iTunes as well.

  • miknge

I’ve listened to the whole album, and it’s better than I expected. Well, she’s my favorite from Season 7, and I had high expectation for her 2nd album considering how much I loved her 1st album, and she didn’t disappoint. :)
