UPDATE: Brooke and Justin have both confirmed the appearance. Brooke, on her website HERE, and Justin on the If I Can Dream live feed early Sunday morning…

So who IS the Idol alum who will be performing an Elvis tune on Wednesday’s results show? Idol producers haven’t spilled YET, but astute Idol fans are picking up on the clues, which are everywhere.

Those clues point to Season 7 Idol Brooke White and If I Can Dream castmate Justin Gaston joining forces to sing Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream” on Wednesday’s results show.

The evidence:

  1. Justin tweets to Brooke, “Playing music with @realbrookewhite . Not the fake one. Party in the UK”  Brooke tweets back, “Playing music with @justinmgaston
  2. In episode 5 of  If I Can Dream, a producer tells Justin that he’ll be performing in front of a “massive audience” within the next few weeks, per Simon Fuller, but he doesn’t have the details yet.  (See video after the jump)
  3. In the preview for the upcoming episode of If I Can Dream, Justin is sitting at a piano, with a suspiciously Brooke White-like blond, plunking out the notes to “If I Can Dream” (See video after the the jump).

Fred Bronson, of @IdolsNow tweeted tonight, “COMING TOMORROW MORNING: Exclusive interview with Idol finalist who is returning Wed night to sing an Elvis song — and their duet partner.” (If you have an iPhone? make sure to download the app! It’s awesome.)

By the way, two summers ago, Justin was a contestant on Nashville Star. I happened to watch, and can tell you–he was terrible and was eliminated pretty quickly.  Nashville Star judge, Billy Ray Cyrus introduced Justin to his then-fifteen year-old daughter Miley, who began dating Justin, who was 20 at the time. Seriously…

If I Can Dream: Justin Gaston Learns he has the chance to perform in front of a huge audience in the next 3 weeks, per Simon Fuller

Nobody should sing this song. It’s got a great social message and to use it to plug a show with the same name is beyond tasteless.

I’m not going to try to analyze any of this, I’ll just be happy to see Brooke sing!
If they just wanted someone on to sing an Elvis song, I would have asked Taylor Hicks.(I mean that as a compliment to him.)

I tried to post a link of Justin singing earlier, didnt work. Hopefully this one will work. Its him duetting with Alex Lambert on Let it Be.

Justin has a very generic tone to me, nothing special. Not sure if his voice will blend well with Brooke’s

It works. Justin can’t hit the high notes. And that piano is in serious need of tuning.

But I do wish that my Dad had introduced me to someone as hot as Justin when I was 15. The only one he introduced me to was Larry from the local carnival who had one lazy eye and a habit of spitting through his two front teeth. We’ll be celebrating our 12 year wedding anniversary this June ):

Oh, thank you for the morning laugh. This was too funny. Happy early anniversary!!!

  • Studio57

Justin sounded alright until Alex started singing. Now I’m all bummed out again about that kid getting voted off. WAAAAAAAA. I really do not think that idol has had a more unique voice than his. Maybe Fantasia, but really that is about it. Please, someone sign that kid.

Love Brooke, can’t wait to see her take on it. I’ll reserve judgment on the Justin guy, but it ain’t looking too hopeful right now.

    Yay Brooke!

I understand all the hate for the cross-promotion, but, c’mon, if you all were Simon Fuller, what would you do? They are his shows/projects. He’d be pretty stupid not to cross-promote. How do you all think he got where he is? Not by being stupid. I think Adam mentoring bothers me more than anything, as I feel it is a slap in the face to other former Idol contestants with longevity (Kelly and Carrie, to name the 2 obvious ones).

  • AnninSD

Cross promotion happens all the time, we would never have seen Adam on SYTYCD if they didn’t.
Every guest and mentor on the show is promoting something other than idol.
I’m just relieved, considering who COULD have come on to sing.

Agree Daughtry, Kelly, Carrie and Hudson will do a great job in my opinion…

I’m very happy Brooke will be on. Love her and her voice. Hopefully she can promote HER web show too while she is there. Is Fuller or 19 in any way involved?

I was giving Justin the benefit of the doubt, but hearing him duet with Alex, he’s totally out of his league.

It makes total sense to have someone from the ‘If I Can Dream’ house. Fuller is having former and cast-off Idols visit it, so why not have an IICD’er come to Idol?

Sadly, I won’t be able to see the show unless I get some alone time with a TV this week.

Since we have no idea of whom they may have asked to be a mentor this week, or for subsequent weeks, in my mind it’s premature to assume a slap in the face. They are all very busy people and may not have the time or the interest to be a mentor. For all we know, they may all be saying, “Thank goodness I’m not doing that!” It’s only a slap in the face if the assumed recipient thinks it is, not if we think it is.

This has probably already been discussed, but why isn’t Alex Lambert doing the duet with Brooke? It seems to me that Alex would bring in a lot more viewers for the show by performing on American Idol than this Justin guy will…

  • brie200

Justin has been in the house longer than Alex, so I think it’s more that this is just Justin’s “turn” so to speak. If Alex had been there from the beginning, he probably would have gotten this gig. Though it does give me hope that maybe Fuller will try to get Alex some such oppournity–though I realize that Alex technically has already sung on Idol.

But for instance, I wouldn’t be surprised if Fuller gets Alex a chance to sing on the finale or something. Which wouldn’t be that out of place anyway since he was a part of the current season.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Alex is in the audience though. He was supposed to go last week and the producers wouldn’t let him. My guess is that this is why. They want him to go when Justin is there.

FTR, love Brooke and have no problem with her appearence. Just pissed that the TPTB won’t invite Jason back to promote his album.

Maybe they did ask Taylor but I doubt it, since they’ve only had him on once since he won. Also, he’s in Toronto performing in Grease this week.

I have a couple of questions…Is Brooke White that boring contestant that used to play the piano a lot??? And also, is she the contestant that got the chance to start her song over when she messed up while performing???

Anyway – if that is her, I must say I was never a fan!!!

  • SpenserJ

I just adore Brooke, and I’m looking forward to seeing her again. But, I’m a little disappointed she has to duet with this Justin guy. He’s pretty crappy.

Edited – oh lol – I couldn’t even remember the guy’s name correctly for 3 seconds.

  • lucy

I think that it’s because they have nothing to promote at the moment.

I don’t understand why not having a *brand* *new* album or single means that you “have nothing to promote at the moment.” …. Is there some kind of mandatory shelf-life expiration on Idols’ songs — like, two months and then they’re the equivalent of maggot-ridden hamburger or something?

Seriously. When the show covers the many ancient artists that it does, singles and albums from the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, and even further back rack up *sales*!!! So are we supposed to think that other folks’ older music is okay to buy, but Idols’ “older” music — from the ancient years of, like, 2005 through 2009 — is not?

Isn’t that supposed to be one of the great boons of having itunes and Amazon and so on, where we can buy all kinds of music, new and old, from obscure and highly popular musicians, in either hard copy of electronic versions, *all* the time??? *All* the Idols have singles *and* albums to promote! Why aren’t these things “promotable” just because they’re two years old or something?

When celebs come on Idol or have their songs covered by the Idol finalists, they love to tout that so and so or such and such has “sold 20 million albums!!!!! or “80 million albums”" …. Well, guess what? Very few people *would* have sold 20 or 80 million albums, if their songs had not continued to be promotable and sellable for *many* years longer than most of the Idols have even had songs on the market!

This seems to me to be a huge, crappy anti-Idol-finalist bias the show has that is driving me nuts, this year especially.

Thanks for the well wishes. On our anniversary Larry will be taking me and our triplets Trixie, Dixie & Pixie out to Arby’s for some of “them tasty roast beef sammiches and them fancy curly Q fried taters.”

But on to the subject at hand…I am looking forward to seeing Justin because he’s hot. But I’m looking forward to listening to Brooke as she was one of my faves from Season 7.

  • lucy

And, of course, this is why they’ve invited him! Because, as Miley’s ex, he’s *known* to be hot by a lot of people, I’d say.

Speaking of stunt casting by AI ….

  • annabelina

Well I’m happy because that’ll mean that all my favorite S7 contestants will have come back to perform this season. Yay! Gotta remember to DVR this week’s results show.

As a father of daughters, I will never understand why someone who is so obviously a creep like the Justin guy is “hot.” Guys like him are users, abusers and lead nowhere. Let’s give Brooke some pepper spray.
