Rhu Rho. According to TMZ and other eye witnesses, Britney Spears walked off the set of the XFactor. It was her first day on the job. The auditions are being held today in Austin TX

Britney Spears walked off the set of “X Factor” moments ago … and according to several people in the audience, she was upset after a contestant butchered her song, “Hold It Against Me.”

Britney did not come back immediately … and four contestants auditioned in front of the remaining judges … and an empty seat.

Someone connected with the show tells us Britney was not upset over the song — and that she “Just needed a break.”

The show is currently on a break — so we don’t know if or when she will return to her seat.

Honestly, It’s well known that Britney has mental health issues. If she has a meltdown, Simon Cowell and his need for spectacle are to blame.

Via TMZ

UPDATEMark Malkin tweets that Britney is back: “second taping has begin. britney spears is back. and she just got booed for gushing over someone who didn’t sing very well.”

@la_reid just playfully told the crowd they can’t boo

I wouldn’t be shocked if she quits in the middle of the season.

  • Anonymous

Her life has been carefully controlled for the last few years, so this is probably a big change for her.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SYFK77IYLRQIVATQ2MJKSW2J7Y Pam

With all of Britney’s personal life drama in the last several years, I was kind of surprised that Simon would have been willing to take a chance on her but of course I’m not her judge so I couldn’t have said whether or not she could have handled it but if this little blurb is true, it just sounds like this is just something she won’t be able to cope with.

  • Anonymous

I am sure Simon got it all on tape.

  • Guest

I wonder if she is regretting being Simon’s new female victim judge.

  • Kylee

     He is probably LOVING this.

  • Anonymous

Oh dear.  I do not wish anything bad for Britney, who clearly has a lot to contend with, but to add Simon Cowell to one’s life is known not to be good for one’s mental health.

  • Da 1 N Only

I don’t know if I’m buying this, leaning to publicity stunt.

Oh well, this season is gonna be fun

  • Tess

I am totally in the corner that feels that Simon knows exactly what the problems with Britney are and that he intends to use every single one of them to get press for his god-awful (IMO) show.  Why would he care about Britney’s very, very fragile mental health…he hasn’t shown an ounce of compassion for another human being as long as I have known about him (though he seems to love dogs…but then as long as you feed, water, house, and pet them they will be your shadow for life…when we all know some humans actually talk back).

I am also sure that a huge portion of Britney’s salary is probably being held in reserve and is being used to buy a huge insurance policy for the X-Factor.  Guy probably wants her to loose it all so that he can collect even more money for his over-stuffed pockets.

  • Anonymous

She’s upset that someone butchered one of her songs. It should feel familiar to her, because she does the same thing when she actually have to sing live.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

    Britney Spears is so
egocentric  that she thinks she’s the only one who can butcher her own songs.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

I bet that’s exactly what is going to happen.

  • DavieP

Start readying backups..Proves 2 mentally ill judges are a bad move but Simons XF in UK has always been abt headlines, controversy & off air antics. This is bad sign & almost makes me wanna boycott show if someone doesnt step in. Brit , your health is worth more than $$

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/7GSHOAZFXSTGJLML5KIBUMCK2E FranciscoH

THE REPORT IS FALSE! Britney didn’t have a “meltdown” or wasn’t “upset.” She went on a BRAKE PEOPLE!! YOU KNOW TMZ BASHES BRITNEY FOR EVERYTHING!! She came back for the 2nd taping and still very happy and upbeat mood.

  • http://twitter.com/thePeachMango Peach Mango

TMZ is being handed these “breaking stories” by Simon’s team.  XF UK’s popularity is based on the various mini-controversies, scandals, meltdowns, etc. that the producers cook up for the judges and contestants each week.  This is just the start.

  • Anonymous

She’s not going to quit people. She has had trouble in the past, but people can improve, recover, and become stronger. Why is something off a tabloid website considered true now days?

  • Anonymous

Well that didn’t take long. But I’m sure X-Factor will milk this for as much publicity as possible

  • Anonymous

I hope this is a publicity stunt and not something related to her mental health.

I know she has anxiety so maybe it became too overwhelming.

Apparently a contestant butchered ‘Hold it Against Me’ and she wasn’t too pleased, so walked off and gave them advice. TMZ is overdramatic lol. I’m not even a fan, but thats what I read from tweets.

I read this on one of the comments on TMZ, so take this with a grain of salt(keep in mind anybody can make things on the comments section)

Its still kinda weird that she missed 4 auditions though. I hear those auditions are long.

You get paid $15 million for a season’s worth of work and you walk off the stage to take a “break” (which I’m guessing was a long one since many people auditioned in front of the judges minus Britney.

Simon, pay me HALF of Brit-Brit’s salary. I will be a judge, clean the stage, be a choreographer, and be your personal assistant all at once!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/7GSHOAZFXSTGJLML5KIBUMCK2E FranciscoH

Missing 4 auditions? That’s a pretty long pee break! And wouldnt’ they just wait for her in that case? LOL.

Wait…how does a person just up and leave in the middle of their job to take a break?

Oh. I’m live blogging this show. But I’ll just blow off 15 minutes because I need a break! LOL.  (BTW, I’m typing this during a commercial. lol)

She’s Britney, she has all the power to do what she wants. TMZ is going to say something extra just to get website hits, and you’re falling for it.

By the way, the audience member behind Britney CONFIRMED she told Simon I’m taking a break.

    she just tweeted:
@britneyspears: #BritneyWalksOff??? LOL was just taking a little break people. I am having the BEST time!!!

Stop expecting the worst in people, and hope for the best!! No need for negativity, especially from TMZ that hate Britney.

Won’t be watching this train wreck of a show anymore….Simon and crew lost me the last season with their over the top drama and antics….and where are the 4 finalists…Melinda is in fat camp, Rachel is at Nick, Chris has lukewarm single and Josh has disappeared….
Idol still has my attention, and the Voice gets one more chance before they lose me too

  • Anonymous

This sounds like TMZ exaggerating. Assuming that she owns a computer and doesn’t live under a rock, Britney’s probably heard enough awful renditions of her songs. Plus there’s no way that someone who has worked in the music industry as long as Britney would be phased by someone butchering her song….that goes beyond unstable. However, it must be quite a change for her to be working in a setting where she is not the center of everyone’s attention.

  • revcat

I see a train wreck coming, sorry to say.

  • Anonymous

TMZ  could very well be exaggerating the circumstances of the situation, it wouldn’t be the first time. But it’s still really bizarre to me that she’d up and take a break in the middle of a bunch of auditions.

I still think she’s too unstable for the daily grind.

  • http://twitter.com/TweetsFromFrank Frank

     Melinda??? You mean Melanie? LMAO

  • too-cool-for-school

Cheryl Cole only lasted what, 2 audition shows? Britney might not make it much longer than that.

  • too-cool-for-school

True that! Plus she has worked on her own time for her entire career, so… this is new to her, I’m sure.

  • Listening

I heard she walked off stage to offer comfort to the person who sung her song b/c they got upset. It was Dallas stripper just tried Hold It Against Me, forgot the words, pulled lyrics out of her pocket.

The thing is we’re not getting the whole story of what went down just a snippet and making judgement calls on it.

I think people are blowing this out of proportion she just got up and
walked away for a bit.  Anyway even if she did get annoyed b/c she
thought someone was making a joke of her and took a breather that’s
normal not mental. Should she have got in an argument w/ the contestant
as i’ve seen multiple judges do that probably would of been worse. Who
knows maybe she just needed to use the bathroom. This was really a non
issue i’ve seen Idol run just fine when a judge had to be absent for
    whatever reason.

  • Anonymous

Cheryl Cole is an unknown here in the U.S. Britney is a household name. Yea, she’s not going to get replaced that easily.

  • too-cool-for-school

I wouldn’t be shocked if she would leave/quit on her own if she isn’t a good fit for the show.

And I never really believed the reasoning behind Cole’s leave. They got rid of her for her accent? Bogus. Lack of familiarity in the US could have been an issue, yes, but then how did Steve Jones survive until the end?

I think it just didn’t work out and Cheryl left on her own, but Simon saw a publicity stunt in it. But that’s just my theory. :P

  • Anonymous

Well this s why they are paying her the big bucks, right.  It wasn’t because of her supreme ability to judge singers.  It was for the possibility of headlines such as this.  Simon you prick!  And I don’t mean that affectionately.  He’s using a mentally unstable woman, frankly two unstable women to goose the ratings of his under-performing show.

  • Listening

I don’t think Simon picked Britney b/c he thought she was unstable and might do something crazy. He picked her b/c she’s super popular and has massively dedicated fans who would watch X- Factor just b/c she’s on it. The last thing Simon wants is the bad press he would get if Britney had a break down b/c she’s “fragile”. He’d be viewed as the guy who took advantage of her.

I don’t know why people are so concerned hasn’t Britney had years w/out an issue. I don’t really know what got her into concervatorship in the first place not something that was made public shaving her head has been done by tons of people as well as locking themselve in a room when not wanting to deal w/ something. I guess being Bi-polar which I believe Britney was said to have been is what tipped the scales towards conservatorship.

Any who, I’m actually surprised she’s still under conservatorship, maybe she just doesn’t feel like changing it.

Anyway i’ve seen a couple of vids and pics of Britney at the auditions and she looked happy and fine and this news of her walking off stage doesn’t disturb me one bit. If we get other info that something actually dire occurred then I’d  be worried. You know how people say you’re looking through rose colored glasses simply seeing good things well I think all this worrying is caused by viewing Britney through doom and gloom hued lenses simply seeing the worst.

I’d also like to mention just b/c someone was mentally unstable and/or harmed theirselves at one point doesn’t mean they will always be that way. We have therapy and medication that can well stabilize individuals. And just from the outside looking in it seems to have worked for Demi and Britney I wouldn’t lable them as unstable. Their lives are a story of redemption and recovery that life can go on and get better and Yes you can get back out there and work.

  • Listening

Who knows how long an audition was 4 isn’t a big number let’s not kid ourselves here and what if a couple of those were joke acts they’d be dismissed real quick. Also aren’t auditions only like 2 minutes on the actual stage 3 minutes pushing it so even if they gave all 4 auditionors the entire time it’s just 12 minutes away. Come on 12 minutes isn’t a big deal that is a break that’s what a buff on a cigaret.

I’m going w/ Britney that it was no big deal and simply a break, there’s no evidence that it was a big deal. Like someone else said her songs are super popular, tons of people sing em and they’re not always great she’s had to of heard bad renditions of her song.

I need actual evidence to label her unstable and walking out for the extent of 4 auditions isn’t gonna cut it by a mile.

Call me a cynic — anything for publicity.

  • milwlovesadam

It’s really really hard when someone has a diagnosis ( Brittany is bipolar ) and to have every little thing you do be scrutinized and called, “due to mental illness.” From what I know about Brittany , she takes her medication, and works hard to be stable for her kids.  Normal people have moods too. Just because she had a very public mental health crisis at one point does not mean that she will have a public crisis again. Hopefully, she has people close to her that will notice signs in her behavior that her medication will need to be adjusted, if and when that occurs.

She has endured the rigors of recording and touring since her diagnosis. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but, I’d like to see people give her a break already.

I,  for one, am looking forward to XFactor. Should be interesting. I think she’ll be like JLO, everybody is wonderful. And since she is not a very good singer, Demi will be the one to give actual critiques of voice.

When I read the headline, I figured it was news that Britney was able to walk somewhere by herself…

Simon’s gotta have a back-up plan.  She might not last a season.  Though, I hope she does.

  • Anonymous

LMAO, you all are walking right into Simon’s trap. He loves this publicity. >:)

  • Anonymous

At least, Britney is still a superstar and is successful in the business.  I can see her being a pretty good judge using her experience.

I don’t understand how Demi Lovato can be a good judge at all.  She doesn’t seem like she has much good experience to help the older vocalists or groups.

Since he already had one young girl judge with Britney, Simon should’ve picked the other person who is seasoned, or has group experience.  Plus Demi isn’t that big of a star.

  • Kylee

Its weird, apparently there were no hosts today.

  • http://twitter.com/facenfield David Facenfield

and so it begins…  the media friendly ‘controversies’ to keep X Factor in the public eye…

this is par for the course here in the UK, where the auditions have also just kicked off, but with only 3 perm judges (Barlow, Walsh and Tulisa) and guest judges for each audition city… Geri H (aka Ginger Spice) did the 1st one in Liverpool earlier in the week…

so the media hype here is all about who else will be a guest judge, should Geri be a perm judge, if not her then who etc….

  • Anonymous

Good thing they got Demi in there. At 20, she’s more honest and open than Britney, and she won’t walk off the set.

  • Allison

Well Simon wants the drama to bring eyes to the show. I didn’t watch last year, but I would probably tune into watch this.

  • Tess

I, too, think it is fantastic that Britney has gotten “help” and is “working” on keeping herself balanced but her problems aren’t the kind that can be cured.  Sure, medication helps a lot, but medication also has its own side affects and that also has to be dealt with.

None of us “know” what the “cause” was for Britney to leave her assigned post but she obviously did…and the fact the show went on says that whatever she did it wasn’t scheduled or pre-planned.

I don’t think many are “blaming” Britney for anything…I think the majority are more concerned with her ability to stay focused….tough to do when your mind can race at warp speed.  The issue, as I see it, is that “anything” these two girls do will be used as fodder for Simon and he will take every advantage of them to get publicity and noteriety for his show.

And, as an aside, I think Simon’s mind may have just as many problems as Britney and Demi (I just drew a blank on her name, interesting)…somehow it never hones in on human compassion.

I agree so strongly with those here who are saying she is unprofessional and is being coddled.  If her mental problems are so bad that she can’t handle such an easy job, then she shouldn’t be doing it. Simple as that. If she chooses to do it, and get all that money, don’t ask me to give her a special pass due to any mental illnes.

  • http://twitter.com/mattwiz13 Matthew Carenza

I wish people would get all the facts before blowing up like this. She left to go to the bathroom, not because she was upset a constant butchered her song. And the four performances she missed probably won’t even appear on the show so what does it matter? This whole “meltdown” watch is completely ridiculous.

  • http://twitter.com/mattwiz13 Matthew Carenza

MJ, you need to read this and update your post: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20598589,00.html

And please take note of this everyone: “And a source close to the show tells PEOPLE, “She was not upset. She just took a short break, which is not uncommon for judges to do in these taped shows.”
Another source on the production clarified Spears’s brief absence, telling PEOPLE, “The judges are allowed to get up at any point. The show isn’t so strictly structered as [American] Idol is. When Britney got up, she went to fix a small wardrobe issue and had a bathroom break.”
