Despite having a job as a judge on the X Factor that pays her 15 million dollars a year, Britney Spears can’t get out from under conservatorship that’s been in place since 2008, according to reports. Britney’s father and lawyer Andrew Wallet are in charge of both her personal and business matters, while her fiance, Jason Trawick, has some control over her personal matters.

According to the Daily Mail, Britney is ready to take back some control. While she’s willing to leave her business and financial matters in conservatorship. She feels she’s healthy enough to make decisions regrading her personal life on her own.

However, a recent appeal to Judge Reva Goetz was denied.

“Britney’s team of doctors just don’t feel that she is ready for the conservatorship to end. They have specific concerns related to her mental health and aren’t ready to tell the judge that Britney is ready to go it alone just yet. Judge Goetz is the only person that can end the conservatorship.”

Britney and Judge Goetz will revisit the case again in 60 days.

It’s like being a child forever. It must be incredibly frustrating for Britney to be everyone’s meal ticket, yet have absolutely no control over her own life.  There’ s no doubt her father saved her life when he took over her affairs after her breakdown, but you have to wonder if the people who profit off the control, are unwilling to let it go, regardless of whether Britney is healthy or not.

Well there is also a judge taking a look at this whole mess. I wonder if there are details of her life that we are unaware of..

This is sad all the way around. Brit looks like X-Factor is making her happy, though.

Speculation is that she has severe bipolar disorder. I know many people with it, it’s incredibly hard thing to live with unless you are on your meds.

Britney is well enough to headline tours and do a weekly TV show but she’s not well enough to make decisions about her personal life? She can get engaged but she still needs a conservatorship? It just doesn’t add up for me. It feels like she is being exploited somehow. Obviously, you want her to have some way to occupy her days but does that have to involve putting her in the public eye continuously?

I feel so sorry for this girl.  She’s obviously got a severe mental illness that requires medication to keep her in the real world.  Perhaps the judge is afraid she will not continue with her medication if she is given free rein over her personal life.

My heart just melted with the tenderness that TMZ asked her about this issue.

Hmm. I smell something pretty fishy about this whole thing…

MJ, you’re right, everyone in her life has something to benefit from keeping her under the conservatorship. I just hate this… :(

One of the reasons she is doing so well could be the conservatorship. If she has a severe mental illness, especially one cyclical in nature and dependent on continuing medication, she could do a lot of damage to herself (again) if given free reign too soon. Her father and fiancée seem less like gold diggers and more like concerned gatekeepers.

Hey MJ, how do you feel about blind items?  B/C there is one circling that sounds like it’s related to Xfactor.

Yes, the judge thing is what makes me think there is more to this. Judges these days are more likely to err on the side of allowing people the freedom to control their own lives (ask anybody who has tried to get a loved one with mental issues or drug addictions into care), so there must be some compelling reasons for the judge to continue this conservatorship.

Her dad did the right thing and stepped into to save her life. He seems to have helped her to return to a normal existence. We know that’s not true for all parents of famous people in crisis. So, I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I dont know if she has bipolar or another mood disorder, but if shes stable on meds, going to therapy and doing alright. theres no reason to have this stay indefinitely.  Im on disability for mood disorder and havent had a co servitorship although part of me would love to not have to worry about paying bills or making important decisions.

I liked your post and wanted to acknowledge that I agree with everything you said.

ETA. Well crap, that was intended for Niall.

I can’t imagine not being able to dictate my own life. I can’t even stand feeling like I’m being manipulated (reason I stopped watching AI). I only pray that everything is truly being done in her best interest.

Hopefuly, in 60 days (once the X Factor is well underway) the judge will give her back some control. Her illness must be much more severe than we are aware. Pressure (and the TV show is a new kind of pressure) can sometimes set off either mania or the depressive end of bipolar (meds or no meds). What confuses me is that she is not even asking for full control. I’m just glad that the woman has her life back regardless of who is controlling what. Mental illness is a scary thing.
