Bo Bice has a new look and a new album coming out. Bo’s third album, Different Shades of Blue, is set to be released, May 18.

Bo tells People magazine, “I have a new project with a new style of music, incorporating more country elements. With all these new aspects going on in my career, it was just another thing that I felt needed a bit of change.”

Hm. Country music for Bo? I could see that. The southern rock he’s been playing has always been country-fried.

Best of luck to Bo. He was my first fav – even before Taylor. I only watched sporadically during season 4 and didn’t become a full time idol junkie until season 5; but when I watched during season 4, it was always for Bo. I hope the new cd works out well for him. He looks fab!

Me likey Bo’s new look. I love Bo and always have. What a shame that Clive screwed him by trying to make him a pop star. If he had gone the country route from the beginning, I think his career would’ve been every bit as fantastic as Carries.

Great news for a great guy!

That would be a penguin in a mink coat. “It’s still an effing penguin!”

That’s the one and it’s much better than I remembered!! Thanks boys3girls0.

It kind of makes me sad that everybody is jumping on the country band wagon to garner some commercial success, I guess. My gut feel is it’s the same music they were doing before just adjusted to appeal to the country market.

hicksaholic I agree with this. I probably shouldn’t judge by one song but the title track of Bo’s new album doesn’t sound much different than anything he did before and it’s not country. What it is is rootsy. Bo’s singing isn’t country either. But all Bo’s said is that his music will have some country elements to it, he’s not acting like he’s suddenly going full on country and trying to get full acceptance by the country community.

Judging from where Bo’s signed he’s not going to be marketed to country radio because that’s not what his label does. I think they’ll have him doing interviews where country fans read aiming for the crossover between country fans and roots rock fans.

I sorta always heard the country in Bo’s music. Just like I hear the country in Taylor’s music. I think Bo is a country rocker, and Taylor does country soul music. I think if they had both packaged themselves properly, or should I say identified themselves properly, then people could have gotten a better idea of what they were about musically. Certainly if Danny Gokey can be accepted into country, Taylor and Bo can. It seems alot more authentic, imho.

I disagree about Taylor and Bo ever having country in their music. The big thing is it’s not there in either of their voices. Bo’s closer in that there’s always been a certain relationship between southern rock and country and that’s a bigger deal right now.

Danny’s acceptance in country music is still up in the air. Every review of his album whether positive or negative has said he’s not a country singer and it’s not a country album – even Country Weekly which complimented his sincerity but says his album is basically Christian pop and blue eyed soul with an occasional banjo or down home lyric thrown in. But anyway there’s a difference because Taylor and Bo are going through indies instead of a major label so they’re not likely to get much radio play and they’re not declaring themselves country. Plus Bo’s had long time relationships with some country writers including Chris Tompkins from their Muscle Shoals days. IA Bo’s got a lot more credibility bringing country into his songs whereas IMO Taylor and Danny (who are similar singers) threw/are throwing some blue eyed soul/pop songs at country radio to see if they’ll stick because country radio’s playing a wider variety of songs these days.
