Blake and his new puppy, Sir Diddimus

Blake Lewis tells his fans in a new My Space blog that he’s signing with a new record label:

More news to come soon….. but on the down low. I’ll be signing with a new record label and will have a new single out soon. I mean brand spank me new! Can’t wait for you to hear it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally, a label that wants to work…. Whattt???? It can’t be.. So stoked! The new record is going to be on the lines of How Many Words and Surrender. Rock/Electro/Pop with a little Bshorty love.

This summer has been pretty chill, but I’ve still managed to work pretty hard on some new music. I have 4 tracks in the works with Darude, DJ Dan/Uberzone and BT. From now till December, they should all be out there waiting for your ears to bless them.

Hm.   My guess is a small indie label, but I’m sure more will be revealed.   Blake’s re-mix of “How Many Words” is currently #21 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart where it has charted as high as #8. While his blend of 80/90′s techno pop didn’t catch on with the general public, I think there is a spot for Blake in the techno/DJ/dance world. Arista dropping him was a big set back, but he’ll bounce back. Maybe not as a superstar in the pop world, but he’ll do just fine in his niche.

Other news: He’s got some tour dates up HERE. He’s got dates in the North and Southeast. (He’s playing a club up the street from me!) And he and Chris Richardson just returned from a charity basketball game in Norway and Iceland.

  • ianamy

Why would any indie label sign this tool? I heard he registered his own production company. Maybe that’s it.

  • IGetCranked

I would suggest some PR lessons from Jason, Archie and Cook to help him on his way.

I’m looking forward to new music from Blake. Wish his tour included my neck of the woods. Oh, well.

  • Trina

Some of their talent might help him too. Some of those places he’s playing at I think Constantine also performed.

Lol, IGC. My thoughts exactly. Take notes, Blake.

Blake was my daughter and I’s favorite that season. The boy can work a stage. Mj are you going to that club by you? Are you going to bring us pics and videos of it – please?

  • AInoob

MJ, you’re responsible for one of Blake’s downloads (he owes you a cut of that dollar, lol) :) A while back you posted a link to a myspace blog of his and I admit I checked out his myspace page mostly because I knew nothing about him but what I read on AI sites and it was all negative. The song he had up was How Many Words and I found it catchy so I downloaded it (wasn’t so crazy about most of the others).

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

    YEP.

I couldn’t care less what he thinks of, or says about any of the other Idols. Doesn’t have anything to do with his music.

  • elisad

I still think he’s talented, and doesn’t need to take PR lessons from Jason…

Good luck, Blake, if you can’t sell like crazy, then just do the music you like.

  • t2

Hope Blake succeeds. He’s worked hard and I like his music.

  • gingerly

    Cute puppy :)

  • IGetCranked

Good luck, Blake, if you canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sell like crazy, then just do the music you like.

Hopefully, he will feel less inhibited going this route and it works out better for him. I don’t really count Blake out too quickly.

AMEN to that. I like him because I like his music, not because he’s Mr. PR Savvy or Mr. Nice Guy. That shit means very little to me.

Anyway! I’ll be at the Orlando show for sure. That venue is really close to where I work, actually. Hardly anyone ever comes here, so I’m excited. I can’t wait to see him live again! :)

Wish his tour included my neck of the woods.

I think you should make a special trip to O-Town. ;)

Heh. Don’t tempt me girlfriend. Actually, the thought already crossed my mind, but I’ll take this discussion offline. ;-)

Blake was one of my daughters favorites so I got the cd for her and ended up loving it myself. Some of my favorites are tools, but the music is good. I wish him success.

Yuck, Blake is such an arrogant chump, Im glad he got canned and his music tanked. There is always BROADWAY.

I don’t think Blake needs to take PR lessons from anyone. Why should he? Just so he can be fake like so many other celebrities out there? I like Blake’s honesty. It is refreshing. I admire him for not giving up and continuing to pursue his dreams.

I couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care less what he thinks of, or says about any of the other Idols. Doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have anything to do with his music.

I agree. It should be about the music. And we make smart remarks about the idols all the time, but we criticize other idols that do it? Seems a little hypocritical to me. I bought Blake’s CD and I just loved it. I am looking forward to his new singles.

Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so darn cute! I just wish that guy would get out of the way so I could see more of him.

Sparkles, I think Blake is cute. Oh, and I think the puppy is cute too! I love the picture just the way it is.

For the record, I do agree that it should totally be about the music. I’m sorry if I offended any of you with my quirky sense of humor. I just love to snark when I get the chance. *Archie voice* Gosh!

LOL. I don’t think that’s true (I may be wrong though). Do you have a link that shows Constantine played at these places?

  • Chrissy

Count me in as excited for the tour and looking forward to new music. Blake has worked hard, and I hope the new label is a good fit. :D

Plus, he gets bonus points from me for adopting the pup from a shelter and promoting that on his MS.

  • jpfan

I think Blake could def use some PR lessons. Since his personality is quite icky, he’d be better off hiding it. On the other hand, I don’t buy music just from the “good” guys. Some real bastards can make great music. While his music isn’t my thing. I think the tour and label should work for him. Good luck, Blake.

  • IGetCranked

  • annoula

I know for a fact that Constantine was at Croc Rock in Allentown (one of Blake’s stops)…I didn’t go, but he was there.

While I always watched idol, I didn’t get into the blogs and online stuff until this year. So I’m a little lost; what did Blake say/do to make him have an “icky” personality? Personally, I wanted him to win last year. His “You Give Love a Bad Name” was perhaps one of the most memorable Idol performances for me.

  • SpenserJ

Some real bastards can make great music.

LOL, aint that the truth. I didn’t like Blake’s cd, but maybe he’ll surprise me with the next one. Blake can be a dick, but I don’t think that should stop the people who like his music from buying it, or seeing him on tour.

And, that is one damn cute dog.

Too bad Blake isn’t one of them. He could never back up his arrogance. His talent could never overcome his douchebag personality – IN MY OPINION.

He’s no Kanye West, that’s for sure! Kanye can get away with that mouth of his because he’s ridiculously talented. Blake? FAAAAR from it.

I was, am and will continue to be a fan of Blake and his music. I bought Audio DayDream and loved it. And now I’m looking forward to his new single and hopefully a new label that will fully support him and promote his music which Arista did not do. Blake has always been a polarizing figure; but I for one admire his honesty and forthrightness

  • ianamy

In some particular music genre, toolness doesn’t matter, if you got the talent.

Not for pop, or any “music category” Blake imagines he creates or whatever. He got tons of promotion, premiering his single on AI, new year eve performance just like Jordin–so many opportunities for nothing. In the end his music sucks, and he can’t sing for shit.

He has a big fat mouth and no talent.

  • mac

Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no Kanye West, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s for sure! Kanye can get away with that mouth of his because heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ridiculously talented.

I think the point is that only musical geniuses are allowed to be politically incorrect. I don’t personally agree with that, BTW.

It’s all good until Kanye disses a popular Idol. ;) .

  • mac

    Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all good until Kanye disses a popular Idol. ;) .

LOL mj. You’re right. If Kanye ever calls David Archuleta “boring”, the Idol fans will ….. well, I don’t want to even think about the awfulness that will happen to him!

  • ianamy

Well, I guess Kanye will still keep his record deal, his fans, his talent, and his looks. Unlike Blake here, isn’t it?

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

LMFAO, I guess Blake “lost” his record deal, fans, talent, and looks because he called David Archuleta boring, then? I mean, that’s some kind of power the kid has, if he can cause all THAT to happen. I haven’t been giving him NEARLY enough credit. :rolleyes_tb:

  • ianamy

    You completely misunderstood me.

Blake lost all that by himself.

But again, some things he doesn’t have to begin with, like talent and looks.

I still cannot believe Kanye is insulted by being put in the same breath with Blake Lewis.

  • ianamy

Sarah, I hope I made myself clear. Mac thinks awful things will happen to Kanye if he disses David. I said no, he will still keep have everything he has.

Blake losing his record deal, his fans, his looks and talent (if there is to begin with) has nothing to do with him dissing David, beating up Sanjaya, accusing Cook, or slamming Jason. Idol fans didn’t do that to him. He did it to himself.

  • outofsorts

I think it’s hilarious that VFTW is making fun of Blake’s puppy pic by comparing w/DA’s puppy pic. They have no love lost for DA, either … I guess they just piss on whomever is their scapegoat du jour.

  • sue

Blake has opened his mouth more than once and he has pissed off not just the Archies but also the Fanjayas for locking Sanjaya in a closet on tour or something? He was also pissed that Sanjaya made it so far in the competition, lol. There were some radio interviews that were less than desirable from Blake. He has the tendency to put his foot in his mouth and it comes off as being a bit arrogant but that’s Blake. Blake equals brutally honest and I am totally ok with that, to a point. He was really different when he was on idol.

I have A.D.D and I love it and I will continue to buy his music if it is good. I try not to take his comments too seriously. I know I have like some bands in the past that are totally cocky and absurdly rude but it’s all good. It is all a part of the music biz.

Blake lost his record deal because he wasn’t with Jive, lol. All the promos in the world isn’t going to get you anywhere if the radio stations won’t play your jam. He got screwed because the album is actually pretty damn good. He may lose some fans but he will pick up new ones, the music will speak for itself.

Oh and Michael Johns has a pic with his puppy too, “Puppy Johns”, it’s the new thang, ya know. LMAO! Blake is still cute as hell and so is his puppy.

  • wonderwhy

Blake Lewis is a talented, creative singer and musician with a distinctive sound who put out a very good but underappreciated album. With a new label, a new single, and a tour coming up, it looks like he’s doing OK. I’m looking forward to his new work and already have tickets for one of his shows. Good for him for being such a hard worker and having the confidence to pursue what he wants.

  • Trina

I think not getting airplay was only part of his problem. I seem to remember his first single had embarassingly bad first week numbers (I think like 10,000 maybe?) so chances are for whatever reason his fanbase already dwindled quite a bit by then. Then he started shooting his mouth off and made things worse for himself. I don’t really buy the notion that he got NO publicity. Like mentioned above he played that Fox New Years special and got to premiere a single on AI. I know he did the talk show circuit because I remember seeing him on Jimmy Kimmel and Ellen and I was cringing watching his performances as he spazzed all over the stage.

  • sue

“I remember seeing him on Jimmy Kimmel and Ellen and I was cringing watching his performances as he spazzed all over the stage.”

Well I think that is how Blake expresses himself, Archie uses his hands and Cookie uses his smoldering looks and guitar. LOL, ok I actually enjoyed the spazzing out thing. If reminds me of being at a club back in the days when everyone dance like that or at a concert when people start to go nutso. It was quite entertaining, lol. Any who good luck to Blakey, I like his music so I will buy it. :)

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Honestly, I think the Blake hate is a little OTT, but that’s not my call. I like his music and I don’t think he’s a dick. I have no problem with peeps who think he is a dick, though. So, yeah. :-)

  • toma

Listening to Blake’s music is like being stuck in the 80′s.. electronica.. beat boxing.. ay way.

He has a decent singing voice.. I wish he would just sing and not spazz out. From the interviews he’s had or that i’ve heard.. he is kind of an a$$, but i’m not too interested in him to care.

I hope he gets a better album cover this time around. The last one was an 80′s mess!

  • snuffles

RE: Why I brought up Kanye

Kanye has said a lot of stuff that made me cringe, groan and want to screm “STFU, Kanye!” BUT that never ever made me stop listening to his music because I still think he’s a brilliant music artist.

In my opinion, Blake isn’t talented enough to have the luxury of running his mouth off or being brutally “honest” (insert eye roll) and “forthright” (double eye roll).

    Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all good until Kanye disses a popular Idol. ;) .

Considering Kanye, he probably already has. :o p

What offends people when an Idol insults and attacks another Idol is that it feels like a family member hurting another family member. Considering they’re all in the same boat they should at LEAST show some respect towards each other.

  • snuffles

Also, in an industry where most hate American Idol contestants or at the very most grudgingly tolerate them (well the ones that make them money), when you trash other Idols and the show you essentially trash yourself.

I think Blake thought he could disassociate himself from the brand and gain some street cred with his antics; but he needs to accept that American Idol will be permanently tattooed on his a$$ until the day he dies.

  • wonderwhy

Time will tell how Blake fares in the post-Idol world. Same as for all Idol contestants.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

What offends people when an Idol insults and attacks another Idol is that it feels like a family member hurting another family member. Considering theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re all in the same boat they should at LEAST show some respect towards each other.

I can appreciate that sentiment. But, my feeling is that once the Idols leave the show, all bets are off. They step out of the Idol bubble and into the real world. I like hearing what’s really on their minds vs. carefully phrased diplomatic sound bites. I can agree or disagree, but I won’t come away hating their guts.

I mean, Kimberley Locke said Jason Castro is as dumb as a box of rocks, and while I’m a Jason Castro fan, and I think her statement is stupid, I still can appreciate her singing ability.

I happen to think Blake is talented. Not Kanye-level talented, of course, not even close. But what Idol is? And anyway, I don’t think speaking one’s mind should be a right reserved only for musical geniuses, IMHO.

There’s been lots of Idols dissing Idols in the show’s history, that’s nothing new. It keeps covering the program interesting, that’s for sure.

Hey Blake! Thanks for the hits! Heh.

  • tinawina

Oh, Blake. LOL. I actually think he’d be just fine signed to a smaller label and storming the dance scene. I see him more as a producer-type anyway. I thought he’d be like One Republic – one popular album, off to write/produce for other people after that. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Proving I don’t know what the hell I am talking about. Hee. His album was good, but it was a little too off the track for these major label types IMO. You know they don’t know what to do with anyone too different, especially if they come off Idol. No one wants to come up with a whole new marketing strategy or grow any non-traditional audiences for an Idol. 1. There’s not enough time for all that and 2. They want a quick buck. He’s creative though, he should be fine in the long run.

I don ´t think Blake falls from grace was because only for dissing Idols, he is just plain weird,I think during his time he didn ´t made the right decision about how to act and what to said… this video is a good example of why a person like me who didn ´t new the artist won ´t be taking him really serious:

    cruzceleste,

I think that video is hilarious! If it offends certain people, then they don’t have to watch it. And just to note, haven’t we all seen that video posted here like a 100 times already? GEESH. After all this time, doesn’t anyone have any new ammo against Blake? I’m tired of all the rehashes. I don’t mind people dissing Blake (since everyone is entitled to their own opionions), but it would be a lot more interesting if people had new material.

Sorry is te video was already posted, maybe I didn ´t saw it… I was just put in an example of what I didn ´t loke about him, my personal opinion not the general point of view

I wasn ´t dissing Blake, since I didn ´t even had follow his carear, but since I ´m new to the world of AI I just know him as last year runner up who was dropped by his label… but my point of view is that no mather how talented you are if you are new in the bussines is sometimes better to take a humble approach and actitude toward media, and at the moment to criticized another artist (doesn ´t matter if this is part of the AI family or not)… by example Jordin, Gina and other Idols from previous seasons said that they will choose Cook over Archuleta, if I remember well A.J. and Yamin said that they will like Archie, to win but they always were very respectful about it…Cook is a good example of a correct behaivoir, when he had said something that migh offend someone he has taked the first step to correct it…

Even now Blake seem to need to learn a little about how to said things:

Finally, a label that wants to workà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Maybe is because I actually have worked recluiding people, but I won ´t want anybody in my office who talks bad about previous jobs… but then again that just my opinion…

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Nooooo, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think the Blake hate is OTT. We are just à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“brutally honest.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ I thought this is a trait that should be admired.

Heh. I think it’s OTT, but knock your socks off. He’s fair game. For the record, I never said that being “brutally honest” is a trait that should be admired. In fact, I think Blake’s foot in mouth disease has caused him some harm. Not to the extent some believe, but I know he’s turned some people off. However, in my world, that doesn’t make him a bad guy. It just makes him human.

I’m a huge Jason fan, and I guess he said something about Jason (alluded to above… funny how I don’t even know all of Blake’s faux pas, but people who don’t like him do)? I seriously doubt it was a personal attack, but a personal preference. They’re miles apart musically. And honestly, I don’t need Blake’s to like all the same artists I do and I’m not offended if he doesn’t.

  • wonderwhy

At the risk of coming across as an apologist for Blake Lewis, which is not my intention, I do think there have been quite a few interviews in which he did express himself politely and respectfully. There have also been some in which he did not. I don’t like everything he does musically but overall I enjoy what he creates. IMO, an artist regardless of their genre puts their work on display and thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what ultimately draws a positive or negative response from viewers or listeners. If they also happen to be entertaining, all the better. If they ruffle a few feathers, who in this world hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t? If someone happens to become wildly successful, great. If not, the sun still rises every morning. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s room for everybodyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s point of view.

  • ktkidwatcher

I can not stand Blake Lewis. On the show, I thought he had no talent at all in the voice department. Everyone kept saying “No!!! He’ll do well!!! He’ll make top 3 and then go on to make a great record.” Well I felt pretty stupid when he made top 2. haha but his record sucked and he was dropped within 9 months and now he is desperately touring the country pretending that getting dropped from a major record label was a “good idea”. But at least he’s doing better than his washed up friend Chris Richardson, who seems to have floated into space.

  • Michelle

I’m rooting for Blake. I hope his new stuff bears a little more resemblance to his pre-Idol music. IMO the cuts on his album suffered from being homogeneized for mass consumption.
