Blake Lewis has previously hinted that he was looking to move on from Simon Fuller’s 19M to new management.   Now it appears to be official. He’s got new management, an album deal in the works, and plans to start writing a record in January with Ryan Tedder. All this, according to a recent a My Space blog, posted by Blake.

The management change:

In other news. I have a new manager and she is killing it for me. Things are finally coming to order. There is a new record deal in the works, just looking over the final papers and within the next couple weeks I will be in the hands of someone who believes in my art. I am very blessed.

Working with Ryan Tedder again:

My friends One Republic came to town a few weeks back and I got to rock out with them on there last song at the Paramount Theater. It was good to catch up with them and Ryan and I are going to start writing my next record in Jan. Stoked!!

Tedder has quite a few co-writes on Blake’s debut album.

Also, Blake’s got a production project in the works with Kevin Sawka, Orchestral Drive-By, which Blake promises to be “a cross between the moodiness of Massive Attack, The funky Glitch of edIT and the songwriting and format of Zero 7.”   Music will be up on his page within the month.

Blake also pimps the tracks he recently recorded with Darude, a cover of Flock of Seagull’s “I Ran.”   Several re-mixes are now available at iTunes.

Rumor has it that his Season mate, S6 winner Jordin Sparks, has also parted ways with 19M.   19 Entertainment–so done with Season 6?

Sorry for the OT, but who is with 19 at this point? Is KLC with them?

In Blake’s case it’s better to be with other management. 19 is awesome when they care, but when they don’t care better move to something else, I think.

Sir Diddimus is so cute. :-) I’m glad Blake isn’t letting his recent troubles get him down and has been working hard on various projects. He sounds pretty pumped by his new management and potential album deal. I hope it works out for him.

  • IdolFanatic

Nice for Blake. I have very little respect for him after the way he publicly trashed Seaon 7 contestants, but I wish him well.

  • Niall

I have enjoyed seeing how the Karma Fairy visited Blake over and over again during 2008. Maybe now that his massive and toolish ego has been deflated he can start anew with an indie label and find some success in his little niche without bothering anybody else for once.

Well Good Luck for Him them…I hope we get some news in the Jordin situation just to know everything is fine with her…

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I’m guessing Jordin is in good hands even if she’s not being managed by 19M. Her family seems pretty savvy when it comes to that sort of thing.

Amen! Apparently he missed the memo that beatboxing, while semi-entertaining on Idol, it’s just not cool anymore and does not a radio hit make. Karma Fairy FTW! *evil grin*

  • Barbariba

Yay! I am excited for Blake. I think he is an amazing talent and wish him huge success.
As for all the dissing of Season 7, Blake was only giving his honest opinion when he was asked. He wasn’t saying people had to agree with him. If anyone remembers the Season 7 finale, Blake was there with “Cook” written across his knuckles. He was a fan of DC and also a fan of Chikezie He has always been appreciative of the platform Idol gave him to show who he was as an artist and the opportunity Idol gave him. He has simply disagreed with the producers on many aspects of the show; not unlike many of us.

  • mac

Great post Barbariba! I hope everything works out for Blake. He loves music.

Here is a cute photo of Blake and Sir Diddimus from a photoshoot for Seattle Dog Magazine. Too cute!

Sure yeah…only months after dissing him in a radio interview. He’s allowed to have an opinion and state it, but several times he has come across as an arrogant poser and very bitter regarding the “most talented group” label given to the Season 7 cast.

  • abbysee

I like Blakes music so I forgive his occasional character flaws. I wish him well.

  • domi

    Who? lol

I think Blake deserves more epic fails than what he already had. He is an arrogant poser.

I didn’t know he dissed DC. I actually know nothing about Blake other than he was the runner up last year and dropped this year. Know nothing about his music, and frankly haven’t been inspired to check it out. Oh well, all the best to him.

  • mac

edit: don’t get defensive when your favorite is dissed

    sorry MJ

  • mac

    I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know he dissed DC

He did not. That is how rumors get started.

  • E

Mak FTW lol your posts are always interesting

    Best of luck to Blake.

I don’t really care but once I read that there was a cute pic of his dog Sir Diddimus, I had to check out his My Space blog. Not only was there a cute pic, but there was this gem written by Blake: “Sir Diddimus and I are going to being Seattle Dog magazine in there next issue with Ceasar Milan.” Anyway, I will always hope Blake does well so his pup has a long & happy life.

  • IdolFanatic

He rudely accused Cook of ripping off Elanor Rigby and taking credit for it in a radio interview while the season was still going on. He then later backpeddled in a blog he wrote after learning that Cook did give credit but that it was edited out by the show. Having been on the AI the season prior, I would think Blake should know not to ASSume things are just as they are presented on “reality tv”. May not seem that big of a deal, but his arrogance is not very endearing.

Right, forgot about that one. He claimed to be friends with the band or something like that, right?

  • leome

Blake is just bitter guy who probably expected a lot more from his Idol “fame”.
I don’t really care for his music and he was never a person I liked, but I won’t wish him the worst.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

He claimed to be friends with the band or something like that, right?

It’s not just a claim. He IS friends with the band. They’re both Seattle-based and have played shows together. He even mentioned them on the air during a “pimp chair” interview on S6 as one of his fave bands – which is why I checked them out in the first place.

Anyway, I’m happy for Blake, especially that he’s working with Ryan Tedder again. I know they became good friends while working on Blake’s first album, but you never really know, right? So yeah, that’s pretty awesome.

ETA: Mac, thanks for that pic. That is freaking adorable.

  • elisad

Good for him. But can he just not work with Ryan Tedder please…

  • Michelle

Yeah, I think he got caught up in defending his friends Doxology but clarified later that in a phone call he got the full story about the part where DC gave credit, being edited out.

Is this still about Sanjaya? LOL see everyone, fanwars never die.

  • Jlyn

Blake is a weird Idol for me. I liked him on the show, he was entertaining. I actually like a lot of his music. It’s his voice that is the problem. (Which of course is the opposite of almost every other Idol – usually great voice – not so great in the music department.) I knew he didn’t have the best vocals on the show, but apparently 90 seconds of weak vocals don’t bother me as much as 3 min. plus of weak vocals. I didn’t buy the album, but did download How Many Words. I like the song a whole lot more than him singing it. Right when it should really kick in you just get the same whispery chorus again. He is talented – but I think he should focus more on writing and producing more. I don’t think his voice is good enough (even with technical help) to really make it.

As far as his behavior goes, I don’t care. If I erased the songs of every artist on my iPod guilty of arrogant, douchey, or hell -even criminal behavior – I would have very little to listen to.

  • sunchick

Well, I might be in the minority, but I have always thought that Blake, for all his faults, is kinda fun. I only get him in small doses though when I stumble on an update like this one, but still. He’s like a little electronic beat mixing vocal percussion making mad scientist or something. You never know if he’s gonna blow himself up or discover something awesome like Flubber, metaphorically speaking. Will be interested to hear the results of the projects he mentioned.

    The puppy is adorable.

  • IdolFanatic

Is this still about Sanjaya? LOL see everyone, fanwars never die.

    :lol_tb:

Oh dear God! No way! I am not nor ever have been a fan of Sanjaya! I think he seems like a nice kid and all, but seriously, he had no business making it as far as he did on Idol.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Blake certainly is polarizing. I am one who isn’t so concerned with his so-called character flaws. The world would be a tad boring if we all agreed and towed the line. He may be a tad cocky, but that’s not an unusual trait in a musician, and especially a front person.

I’m still not sure why the Doxology thing is still an issue. I’m sure Cookie’s not worried about it. Besides, as an artist himself, I’m sure that he would understand why Blake thought his friends should get credit for their arrangement. He obviously wanted to give credit.

For me, the good news is that I like Blake’s music (and his voice), appreciate his work ethic and the fact that he doesn’t give up if he’s knocked down a peg or two. He also seems to get lots of respect from the people he works with, and seems to easily make contacts with music biz peeps. I love Ryan Tedder, so I’m looking forward to more collaboration between the two.

Besides, the puppy is awfully cute. ;-)

  • Niall

If Blake was stunned by his album sales for ADD he’ll have a freakin’ stroke when he sells a couple thousand total his second time around. Being on AI didn’t seem to give him any bump at all. He’s headed to a small indie label and back to performing gigs he could have gotten without AI. He’s the local Seattle beatboxer again. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an AI contestant so quickly waste their AI bump. And to be honest I don’t think that extra 20 pounds he’s gained since AI has helped matters much.

Dude is performing with Chris Sligh in a few days. That is ironic and delicious on many levels.

  • mac

ETA: Mac, thanks for that pic. That is freaking adorable.

Your welcome Sarah. He is adorable. I bet Sir Diddimus is a chick magnet when Blake goes out with him!

I think that is the best description that I have ever heard of Blake. :laugh_tb:

  • wonderwhy

I’m happy to know things are starting to come together for Blake after the rough year he’s had. It looks like his persistence, creativity, confidence, passion for music, and ability to work with musicians are going to pay off for him. I personally don’t see that as arrogance. I see it as hard work in a hard business. I think his new projects are going to be interesting. I like his voice, but I understand that’s a matter of preference. Best of luck to him.

    His dog is incredibly adorable.:)

Speaking of Blake — he, Sligh and Brandon are performing @ Winterfest in Albany on Dec. 27th. It may not be a huge gig, but I loved all those guys in S6. :-)

Oh, my. Niall, nice try. I can think a few more interesting captions for that photo…

That said, are you advocating lining up all the Idols by weight as a measure of talent? I guess it would be Sanjaya FTW!

  • Niall

Not advocating anything other than the idea of Blake keeping his shirt on.

I’m so happy for Blake. He’s an incredible artist and he deserves a label that believes in his art. And anyone dissing Blake seriously needs to stop. He never dissed David, he just said he didn’t credit Doxology. He even said he liked DC, he was just pissed for that week. But then he found out he did credit them. Get over it. That was a few months ago. I’ve met Blake myself, he’s an amazing person and musician. Also, if he wants to take his shirt off, fine. He looks hott shirtless. I wish him the best of luck. I’m glad he’s finally getting things together.
