Watch Idol Season 6 runner up, Blake Lewis, perform “Little Drummer Boy” using his loop pedals to create a contemporary, highly percussive version of this Christmas classic.

The video aired on King5 Seattle’s Evening Magazine’s Holiday Special yesterday. As the hosts mentioned, Blake is currently living in Los Angeles working on his 3rd album.

Not feeling this. And I used to like Blake.

Love it, and he looks fantastic, better than he has in years.  Starts out slow but by the end, totally grooving.

    hahahahahah!  oh dear no.

my favorite line was that Blake “says” that he’s released two albums.

Not liking this version.  But Blake looks good.

I love Blake and liked this as well. Kind of surprised I did since I am such a traditionalist. I always enjoyed the spin he puts on things.

I really enjoyed that.   Is voice also sounded very good on the melodic sections.  To me, he is the most unique Idol contestant AI has ever had.   I’m glad to see he is finding success in the music biz in his niche.   I believe he does well in the club scene, which is where he wants to be.

omg, lol. well, it’s different — though not sure this feels all that appropriate to me with a (eta: not entirely secular) Christmas song, verges on self-indulgent. and the off-key vocals aren’t a big help.

Blake is a very talented guy.  I have never fully appreciated his gifts, but I recogize them, anyway.

  • HotHotHot

Well, that’s different (not in a good way)!

OK!! I’m not sure if I like it or not. Different.  This is the first time that I heard Blake sing as I started watching American Idol later on.

    yeah….really didn’t care for that :(

I’ve been spoiled by The Sing-off.  Couldn’t help imagining how a group (esp. Pentatonix) might make this boring song interesting.

Not into this version, but Bravo for the creativity and taking the risk to fit the song to his style, experimentation is a valid point for me anyway ;) …… i remember liking Blake over sweet Jordin on their season lol. Oh !!. and yes he look  very good here ! :)

Well, he cleans up well – glad to see his new look – but still don’t like what he brings to the table.  But at least he has his own fans.  Good for him!

The beginning sounded too much like his other song he builds the sounds on…I think its “She Likes the Way.”  But I did like his more strained bluesier vocals towards the middle and end.

    Not diggin this…:/

“The Little Drummer Boy” is a Christmas song that I hate with such a white hot passion that anything that destroys/disguises/mutilates the thing will get a five-star rating from me.  Thank you, Blake

The song was pretty good, but the best part was seeing him looking so good.  I agree the list of most unique and different artist on Idol is short.  My list includes:

    1.  Adam Lambert
    2.  Blake Lewis
    3.  Siobhan Magnus
    4.  James Durbin
    5.  Naima

People like this make Idol a better show whether people are ovejoyd or not.
    Go get ‘em, Blake!!

I’ll give him high marks for creativity, but I really did not like that at all.

Oh, and I love ‘Little Drummer Boy’
