Last night, Blake Lewis (runner up Season 6) and Jason Castro (4th place Season 7) performed an impromptu duet of the Jason Mraz song, “I’m Yours”.

Blake and Jason were on hand for the The “Pretty in Pink Ladies Night Out,” a benefit for breast cancer, in Roanoke, VA.

Jason plays Ukulele and Blake throws in a little beat boxing. I love when Idols from different seasons mix it up. It makes the Idol geek in me very happy. The performance ain’t bad for a last minute thing.

    I love this!
They were having a great time, and so was the audience.
I’m partial to Jason, but both are very talented young men.

  • lifeisgood

Really like Jason but I’ve never been too interested in Blake’s musical style -although I like some of his new songs.

  • primeminister

To me, Blake makes noise, Jason makes music. I enjoyed watching them sing this together though, so thanks for posting this mj! :)

I love Castro. I still think season 7 was hands down the most talented.

    Dawg :P

  • NBNN

I really enjoyed this – shows both have talent to pull this off with no practice.

That was so much fun! Love them both. :-)

Jason and Blake at the airport this morning. Funny in that it’s not exactly the two Idols I’d expect to be hanging out, though I know it had more to do with the radio station gig.

THANK YOU MJ! I LOVE this and I love both of them – so happy they are both doing so well this year so far!

Blake is extremely musical. I loved this live mash up. It was fun.

Aw, my favs from season 6 and 7 together! Thanks for the post, MJ.

  • justshootme

Oooooh. I love when idol worlds collide. If only Jason and Blake had been on the same season… and they had been in final four together …and they had to do a duet together… they could have sounded awesome on this cover and I would have a studio version!!!

  • cookcricket

As I said in the headlines thread, I usually wouldn’t watch a Blake vid, but Jason made me do it. ;) I really enjoyed this impromptu performance! Fun, cute, unique and not bad.

    Oh, my ears, that hurt.

  • rereader

Ah, that’s cute! As MJ said, not bad for a last-minute thing.

I don’t care for Blake but Jason’s joyful rendition brought a smile to my face!

  • colette

thanks MJ! good fun! I was far more impressed than I expected to be when I saw Jason live with AI tour. He’s a real charmer, and I love it when Blake has a good song to show off his talents.

  • Barbariba

Love me some BLason! They both look like they’re having a great time! Would like to see them perform together again sometime.

  • IdolThoughts

This totally reminds me of a high school talent show. It made me smile, but meh.

  • mrskiddens

    Adorable!

Loved Jason. Blake, mmmm’ ¦.not so much.

Agreed. I think Jason could have done the song wonderfully on his own. Like mj said, I, too, love the “collision” of Idol worlds, :-) . Ace Young and Chris Sligh performed at the season 7 top 24 party; not together, though. Mandisa, Chris Sligh, and Phil Stacey were together at last year’s Dove Awards to honor Michael w. Smith; and Chikezie was together with Melinda Doolittle, Gina Glocksen, and Phil on this spring’s American Stars tour.

Awwww they were my faves in their respective seasons and I never would have pictured them performing together but man that was cool! Thanks MJ!

This is one song that I always wanted Jason to sing so it’s like a dream come true, yeah! It’s not bad considering Jason just learned the chord on his ukulele the same day.

    From the review:

I got the chance to sit backstage with Castro and Lewis before my deadline. “Let’s do something together,” said Lewis. “All right, man, what?” said Castro. “Maybe some Jason Mraz?” said Lewis, who practiced Mraz’s hit song “I’m Yours,” with a little beat box rhythm. “Yeah, let’s do it,” said Castro, who said he was going backstage to learn the chords on his ukulele.

I really enjoyed this. The audio isn’t very good, but I thought for a song thrown together, they did a pretty good job. I like both these guys and I hope their albums do well.

Since they are both promoting new albums I hope we will see them on Idol this year?!

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

Blake is extremely musical. I loved this live mash up. It was fun.

I agree! I see Blake having longevity in the music industry, either as a performer or a producer.

  • mahrikka

This was fun! Both are great in different ways.

  • Suzanne

Well, the sound quality was weak. Jason came off better than Blake on that. I’m pretty impressed that he learned the chords right before the performance. He was probably cementing the lyrics too. Blake sang only the chorus, which was decent harmony, but came off as a pretty light jam session. And the beat box? On I’m Yours?

  • Grammie Kari

I really did enjoy this. Jason is probably my all-time favorite Idol! I see lots of talent in Blake and hope he has success with his new album.

” I love Castro. I still think season 7 was hands down the most talented’ ”

I have to agree and was very happy I saw them on tour. I like when Idols of different seasons get together. More, please.

I just tuned out Blake and focused on Jason’s voice. This song is so up his alley! :)
