Paula  Clips Censored?

Red Herring reports  that TPTB at FOX broadcasting have ordered YouTube to take down the clips of Paula acting a little, err, intoxicated at some recent press interviews.   However, the link I  posted  a few days ago is still operational…

Dave is at it again…

Dave aka “funnystone” from VoteForTheWorst.com has written an interesting and comprehensive piece demystifying the Idol audition process.  Check it out here.

Who is your favorite wannabe?

It’s kind of early in the season, but Entertainment Weekly has put up a poll for Idol fans to vote for their favorite contestant featured in the auditions so far. You can vote for your fav here. Who is winning? Sanjaya Malakar, the male half of the brother/sister duo from the Seattle auditions is running away with the competition at 37%.   Sanjaya impressed the judges in Seattle  with his version of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed and Delivered”.

Mandisa Signs with EMI/Sparrow

Here’s a press release  announcing Mandisa’s record deal with Sparrow, a gospel label affiliated with EMI.   The record is scheduled to drop in May 2007 and will feature production credits from  Shaun Shankel (Destinyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Child), Doubledutch (tobyMac), and others.   Mandisa is writing a book detailing her struggles with weight and food issues to be published this summer.   She’s also a spokes-model for plus-sized fashion store, Ashley Stewart.

Finally…

Look for TVWeek.com to feature Idol producers in weekly interviews to be posted on Wednesday afternoons.   Last year, it was great fun reading between the lines of Nigel Lythgoe’s thoughts on the Tuesday night performance show. Because, of course, by the time he was interviewed, he knew who was getting the boot…

This week, there’s a short interview with Ken Warwick.   You can listen to it here  or read the transcript.  There’s not much covered in the interview that we haven’t heard before.   Look for re-caps of the interviews here once the Top 24 competition begins.

The one from FVTW was verrrry interesting. Some of these things, of course, are known from other sources, but there were some really fascinating bits that I never knew they were doing on the show (but SHOULD have known, I guess). Manipulating the contestants is quite expected, but I was surprised to read that some of the auditions for Randy, Paula and Simon were simply made up out of whole cloth and never took place. Wow.
I was not surprised about what was said about Kat. Again. Creating a “character” is common on the show.
I did like the little comment about Taylor at the end of his article.

I posted about this in yesterday’s thread. In my opinion, Sanjay is simply this yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Kedavill Couradmakar – the teen hearthrob. I’m not surprised he’s popular at this point.

Regarding the Paula clip: I’d forgot to mention the first time it made the rounds on the blog that if you don’t watch it but just listen to the audio she sounds completely normal. Her medical condition, lack of sleep, and other factors contributed to making it appear visually odd. The woman doesn’t drink, she doesn’t abuse drugs, but she does have severe issues with constant pain, significant sleep deprivation, and when you combine all of that together with the fact that every little movement is going to be scrutinized by the press who already think she’s nutz then she can’t win even if she tries. I love Paula. Ppl need to lay off her.

Sanjaya: all I can say is … *swoon* :.D Doesn’t he have the greatest smile? And despite what at least one person has said I love his hair!!! He will make all the gay bois happy cuz he’s representin’, all the naive tween and early teen girls swoon cuz they won’t know, and all the ladies smile cuz they don’t care. The 18-49yo straight white males might not be as crazy about him, but who cares right? hehe

I watched the Seattle show with a 9-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl last night, and they loved Sanjaya as soon as they saw that smile! Aw, and I loved Sanjaya, too, because he’s the kind of sweet kid you hope your teenager would have as a friend, and every time he came over to your house, you’d offer him a brownie or a sandwich and ask him how school is going.
