We’re live blogging the Billboard Music Awards, live from Las Vegas,  right here! American Idols nominated for awards include: Scotty McCreery for Best New Artist and Top Country Album.  Jennifer Hudson for Top R&B album (I Remember Me) and Mandisa in the Top Christian Song category (“Stronger”).

Unfortunately, Scotty is on tour with Brad Paisley and won’t be in attendance. However, there is a trio of Idol winners performing tonight.  Carrie Underwood is reportedly singing the title track to her new album Blown AwayKelly Clarkson is set to perform her new single, “Darkside” and Jordin Sparks will participate in a special tribute to Whitney Houston.

From The VoiceCee Lo Green is set to perform.  He is also nominated in the R&B song and R&B artist categories, while Maroon 5 is nominated in Top Duo/Group and Top 100 song (Moves Like Jagger) categories.

Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen of Modern Family are co-hosts. Tune into ABC at 8/7 pm to watch.

List of Nominees

Watch this space for a list of winners! Also, I’ll be posting video performances has soon as they are available.

LMFAO Kicks things off with “Party Rock Anthem”/”Sexy and I Know It.  Hooray for wacky giant Zebra! Lulzy.

Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen take the stage.  They not that America’s whitest suburban pretend couple hosting The Billboard Music Awards. It’s not as if the BBMA’s are all that cutting edge. Next,  clips of Ty and Julie singing a bleeped out rap song, and then again as a country and kid’s song. Ha ha?

Julianne Hough is the first presenter. She appears to be wearing a sparkly bath towel. She stands awkwardly for a a few seconds without a mic. Oops.  She presents “Social Artist of the Year” to Justin Beiber.  Dude isn’t all that social as he stumbles over his acceptance speech. He thanks his fans,  his manager, Usher, his mom, dad and God.  Rambly speech!

Ty and Julie take a moment to remember Robin Gibb who passed away today.

Lisa Marie Presley presents the Spotlight Award to Katy Perry who was the first woman to have 5 #1 hits from one album on the Billboard Hot 100. Michael Jackson is the only other artist to receive the award. She thanks her record label, team, radio stations and her fans.  Her fans call themselves the Katy Kats. I had NO IDEA. She pimps her upcoming movie.  She introduces her 91 year old grandma, who is from Las Vegas, from the audience.

Robin Thicke takes the stage to pimp “The Most Exhilarating Performance” poll on Billboard.com.  But here’s the important part….he introduces his fellow Duets judge who debuts her new single “Darkside”.  Dressed in red low cut gown, she looks ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS.  She’s dropped a little weight. She sounds fantastic. “Darkside” is one of my fav songs from her awesome album, Stronger.

The Wanted take the stage from inside the audience to sing “Chasing the Sun”/”Glad You Came”. Ty wanted to know if they were a boy band or a man band. How about an asshat band? They jump around and sing and it is not entirely entertaining.

Miley Cyrus is next. Oops. She forgot to put on her pants! HOW EMBARRASSING. She presents the Best New Artist award to Wiz Khalifa. Scotty McCreery was nominated in this category. Wiz yakety yakety yak is played off.

Brandy introduces “her boy” Chris Brown.  He performed on her single. Yuck. He performs “Fun Zone” because, you know, he’s so much fun. A veritable laugh riot. Shirtless. What a man! Not.

Natasha Bedingfield takes the stage to honor Donna Summer who died earlier this week, with a performance of “Last Dance”. They cut her off pretty fast to go to commercial.

Kris Kristofferson introduces Taylor Swift, Woman of the Year. She takes the stage after a video package celebrating her accomplishments that include a bunch of chart records.  Zooey Deschanel introduces her. OMG Quirky girls UNITE!  She’s humbled and honored of course. SHE CAN’T BELIEVE IT.

Far East Movement introduces Usher who performs “Scream”. He’s got some sort of gothic deal going on here.

Carly Rae Jespen, who was a finalist on Canadian Idol a few years ago, is part of a John Frieda hair color spot. Whoo.

Jordin Sparks’ boy toy, Jason Derulo presnts the Hot 100 Song of the Year to LMFAO, who proceed to swear up a storm as soon as they hit the stage.

Ty Burrell just got inaugurated for Bieber Fever. It’s like an adorable bird flu!  Justin Bieber takes the stage to sing his song “Boyfriend”.  The Biebs grabbing at his crotch. YAY?

Canadian Idol alum, Carly Rae Jespen takes the stage to sing her hit “Call Me Maybe”.  Another lesson in: Look kids what can happen to an Idol also ran.  Maybe sometimes.  Props for not lip singing, so I’ll forgive her for being out of breath in spots.

Whiz Khalifa honors MCA of the Beastie Boys before presenting the Top Duo or Group to LMFAO.  Once again, their incomprehensible ramblings are played off. I have to keep reminding myself that these trophies award SALES and not TALENT.

Country singer, Luke Bryan, introduces Carrie Underwood singing “Blown Away.”   Carrie totally redeeming herself from her shaky Idol performance of this song. She sounds incredible.  Hooray for wind machines and CONFETTI.

Gladys Knight takes the stage presents Top Male Artist to Lil Wayne who was not present to accept his award.

Linkin Park takes the stage to sing “Building it Up”.

Monica and Eric Benet present Top R&B Artist to Chris Brown. Did I hear a boo or two?  Julie Bowen notes how good looking Chris Brown is. Hmpf.

Katy Perry takes the stage to sing “Wide Awake” from high above the stage, swinging on a sling. Pink did something similar a few years ago on Grammy’s but much much more dramatically.

Whoopi Goldberg introduces the Whitney Houston tribute. “We’re going to give Whitney the greatest love of all with the help of a talented young artist who plays Whitney’s daughter in Sparkle…”   She introduces John Legend who sings “The Greatest Love of All.” Next, Jordin Sparks sings “I Will Always Love You.”  Our little girl has grown up. sniff.  Family crying in the audience.

Whoopi presents The Millennium Award to Whitney’s sister-in-law, Pat Houston and her daughter, Bobbi Kristina. They are both crying.

Cee Lo Green and the Goodie Mob sing  “Fight to Win” featuring a hip hop dancer dressed as a dancer who appears to have only one leg. After they perform “Fight For Your Right to Party” to honor Adam Yauch who succumbed to cancer last week.  Julie says she loved Carrie Underwood singing along.

Taio Cruz announces the winners of the Battle of the Bands Patent Pending.  This is not good. I was hoping the performance would be cut short for a commercial break, but NO such luck.

Gavin DeGraw introduces Nelly Furtado, who sings “Big Hoops”. She’s surrounded by Native American dancers who dances with hoops. So very literal.

Alicia Keys takes the stage to present  Stevie Wonder with the Billboard Icon Award.  They sing a medley of Stevie’s songs together. After they sing a snip of Alicia’s  hit “Empire State”. It’s Stevie’s birthday.
