The deluge of initial preorders for Take Me Home, the sophomore album from One Direction (Syco/Columbia, 11/13), is giving the release the look of a commercial giant, with most expecting a first week north of 500k. That will give it a good shot at being the year’s second biggest debut behind Taylor Swift’s Red (Big Machine, 10/22), for which a rare million-selling bow appears to be within reach.

Home got a good update on CHR today. It’s not moving on the chart because hotter songs keep passing it. However, if today’s update continues it should break into the 20s on that chart (not sure when though ;0) I now think the song should go 2xplat in about 4-6 weeks.

Anyone know if Z100 is actually playing the song?

Love that Pink will beat Kanye! lol

I think Kayne West is mad talented but everything I’ve been hearing about Cruel Summer is that it was scattershot and kind of lazy (and I feel the same way about Mercy as a single). It ain’t no MBDTF, that’s for sure.

Of course, BM(OLK) isn’t near the heights of some of Pink’s best work, either, but TTAL itself is getting much better reviews.

Honestly that seems just about right for a new person with a big frothy pop hit these days. It’s not like she puts across any kind of compelling artistic persona beyond “she’s adorable!” and “she’s freakishly young-seeming to be 27!” LOL. She’s definitely more Taio Cruz/Jason Derulo (generic catchiness with generic personality)  than Ke$ha (selling a whole outlook on life, sharply drawn brand).

If she keeps churning out the cute catchiness she’ll sell plenty of singles and be just fine. If she manages to tease out a personality along the way she’ll be better.

Hotter songs will continue to pass it, due to all the new releases coming out this fall. Home will have to double its spin count to make it into the top 20. It still could happen, but it is way too early to say that it will be in the Top 20.

  • girlygirltoo

I’m pretty sure they got one of those Clear Channel deals. KIIS was spinning it every hour

Home is back in the top ten on iTunes. And without any TV at all (unless it’s being shown on the VH! countdown.) It wasn’t on there last week which is just another sign that P2 doesn’t have much of an organized fan base. The song sells 100K plus weekly but can’t even make it on the countdown. ;0

  • TheOther

It wasn’t on there last week which is just another sign that P2 doesn’t have much of an organized fan base. The song sells 100K plus weekly but can’t even make it on the countdown

But the song is selling and selling at a very impressive speed – that’s what ultimately counts.  And the video for Home has gotten like over 2.8 million hits on You Tube.  I also don’t know how viable VH1 is in selling music?  Because there are videos on the countdown, that aren’t really making any kind of impression anywhere else.

  • OffLeash

Home is #9 now. I think it could be an early sign of the Trouble with the Curve effect. The movie opened yesterday, and since Home is supposed to be featured during an important scene, some moviegoers might be checking out the song afterwards.

If that’s the case, expect a nice bump by Sunday night if the movie is popular, although tbh I have no idea if it will be.

  • OffLeash

2.8 mil hits for a song that sells this well isn’t a lot. Another sign that P2’s fanbase isn’t interested in inflating his numbers, just as they’re not interested in spamming polls and radio requests.

Some might see it as a bad thing, but I don’t. It’s better than being seen as an artist whose fanbase spams 24/7, which I think hurts more than helps, but that’s JMO.

  • girlygirltoo

I know the movie is considered Oscar bait but I don’t know if people are expecting it to be a big commercial success. I wouldn’t expect “Home” to get a huge bump off of being in the film — a small bump seems more likely, especially since the song has gotten so much national exposure already it’s hard to believe that there is this huge untapped market for it still out there. But this song has surprised me before, so it could do so again.

I heard The Lumineers’ song “Ho Hey” on a trailer for this movie the other day — is that song in the actual movie, too?

  • OffLeash

Ooops! It’s already up one more spot and climbing according to Kworb’s stats, at #8 now, so who knows?

  • jpfan2

I thought someone said they saw a preview of the Eastwood movie and Home wasn’t in it.  I don’t really know what is giving the song its boost on iTunes this morning. Is Z100 playing it alot? No idea.

  • OffLeash

I’d be surprised if the boost came from Z100. They’d have to play it every hour on the hour, and I’m sure that’s not the case.

We should find out soon enough from other moviegoers if Home is indeed played during the movie like P2 said or not.
