Billboard – Chart Date 01/05/13

As we all know, there are approximately 56,123 Billboard charts. This is a summary of just some of those charts and how the Idols/AGTers did on them this week. Please feel free to post rankings from your favourite BB chart or any other numbers you care to share. This is the daily numbers thread. The date in the header is the published chart date.

This week, Phil Phillips tops the Rock Album chart with “The World From the Side of the Moon” for the fifth week. America’s Got Talent Runner-up, Jackie Evancho returns to the top of the Classical Cross-over chart with “Songs from the Silver Screen.

From the Voice, Cassadee Pope tops the Heatseekers album chart. Basically, it’s a chart for somebody who hasn’t been in the BB200 top 100 or the top 10 of any of the genre album charts. So that no artist is left behind, this chart also has several sub-charts. Cassadee also topped the Top Heatseekers (South Central), Top Heatseekers (West North Central), Top Heatseekers (South Atlantic), Top Heatseekers (Pacific), Top Heatseekers (Northeast), Top Heatseekers (Mountain), Top Heatseekers (Middle Antlantic) and Top Heatseekres (East North Central). Normally, you would see more up-and-coming regional artists featured on those charts.

I didn’t saw this posted here:

Google slashed the cumulative view counts on YouTube channels belonging to Universal Music Group, Sony/BMG, and RCA Records by more than 2 billion views Tuesday, a drastic winter cleanup that may be aimed at shutting down black hat view count-building techniques employed by a community of rogue view count manipulators on the video-sharing site.

     http://www.dailydot.com/news/youtube-universal-sony-fake-views-black-hat/preview/

  • justmefornow

lol, that maybe explains millions of views on some outright crap.
It’s kind of like artificially inflating twitter follower numbers that some use, in the end, it’s all pretty useless.

Is Home still #1 on Tripple A?
I am asking because it is on Mediabase for the 7th, and I am assuming final week (since Lumineers second single Stubborn Love had finally managed to take the top).
And might I say, what a grate ran!

Also glad to see that it is still gaining in overall airplay. A new peak on Radio Songs, up one spot to #8. Sweet.
It is also #8 on POP songs for the second week.

  • Mateja Praznik

MediaTraffic posted worldwide year-end sales estimations:

    Albums: http://www.mediatraffic.de/year-end-albums.htm

    Singles: http://www.mediatraffic.de/year-end-tracks.htm

One Direction have 2 albums in TOP 10. Also, it looks like “Up All Night” must be around 4 million copies sold. I think they made a mistake with “Take Me Home”, because based on the 5 last charts of 2012, the album should be around 2,415 million WW. Then again, I calculated the numbers for Taylor Swift’s “Red” and her total is 3,463 million WW, not 3,8. So who knows.

Overall, the numbers are pretty low compared to year’s past.

  • Mateja Praznik

Huh, chartnews is reporting new album numbers on Twitter. I’m sure they are getting these numbers from MediaTraffic, but I don’t think the chart for this is up yet.

    to Mateja Praznik:
    Thanks!

  • LongKissGoodnight

I was asking about Home’s official position for last week on Triple A Billboard.
I am aware that Home had lost top stop at Mediabase mid-current-week, that is why I said that this is going to be the end of Home’s rein on AAA
Just trying to determine if Home was #1 on Billboard’s version of AAA chart for 7 weeks as well as on Mediabase.

  • Kirsten

“Home” was number 1 on the BB AAA and Adult Top 40 charts last week.

It was number two on both of those charts this week.

  • LongKissGoodnight

    Thank you. :)
Am I right to assume that you have access to all of Billboard charts (including the ones that don’t get published on their site) and the archives of previous weeks?
If so could I trouble you to count the number of weeks that Home have spent on top of AAA and AAA Audience Chart.
I think it should be 6 and 7 respectively, but I am not sure.

  • LongKissGoodnight

Some long awaited great news for Kelly’s fans!

Kelly Clarkson – The singer’s Stronger album crosses the 1 million total sales mark this week, giving the original American Idol winner her first million-seller since her second effort, 2004′s Breakaway (6.3 million). Stronger sold another 8,000 copies this past week (reentering at No. 173, up 64%), bringing its total sum to a wee bit over 1 million.

  • mjsbigblog

Am I right to assume that you have access to all of Billboard charts (including the ones that don’t get published on their site) and the archives of previous weeks?

Sorry…she does not. Access to those charts is expensive. She gathers what information she kind find on message boards and in articles.

  • maymay

Billboard predicts the sales of this week:
1 Taylor Swift I Knew You Were Trouble 525,000-575,000
2 Bruno Mars Locked Out of Heaven 425,000-450,000
3 The Lumineers Ho Hey 350,000-375,000
4 Justin Bieber Beauty and a Beat 340,000-380,000
    5 Rihanna Diamonds 300,000-350,000
    6 PSY Gangnam Style 325,000-375,000

Home  should sell 200k-250k this week. If it sells 90k-100k every week next year, it will reach 4 platinum in February.

I am wondering whether the pop radio would let Home peak #1. If so, Home will easily reach 5 platinum.

  • standtotheright

Good for KC. On reflection, Stronger is a little more uneven than it should have been, but the strong (heh) songs are really worthwhile, and there are definitely deep cuts I’ll revisit. I think both Stronger and GH:C1 are going to get another push from awards season.

  • LongKissGoodnight

    Thank you mj.)
I assumed that Kirsten might have the access because I could not find info on AAA Billboard chart anywhere besides occasional mention in music sales columns. And I read that billboard makes it available only to subscribers.
I normally check billboard.com, ukmix, and pulse for new information/leaks..
So where did info about Billboard AAA came from? Or was it just assumption extrapolated from songs position on Mediabase? I am asking because I  would greatly appreciate an opportunity to dig into Billboards’ official numbers for this and Alternative charts if they are posted somewhere.

Home has peaked on Pop radio. It’s not going to #1 on that format.

  • elliegrll

Billboard’s chart watch usually posts this information every Monday.  You can also look at this chart, when it updates.  It’s for Triple A.

All formats combined Audience Impression (Mediabase):

    7. PHILLIP PHILLIPS – Home: 107.093 (+ 2.003)

Now that Christmas is over AC is dumping holiday tunes, so Home is getting a big boost in overall AI.
It is #4 on AC right now (up 10 positions from this time last week).  Gotye and Katy Perry’s ‘ Wide Awake’ are #1 and #2.
And with Rod Stewart’s ‘Let It Snow! Let It Snow!..’ at 3d, quickly losing spins we can expect Home to finish this week at cool #3 by the Sunday evening update.

Thank you so very much for the BDS link! It’s a great help)))
I remember using this site a while back actually, but then I moved on to another computer and it completely slipped my mind.

Ok, so now I think I have figured it out:

Home was ?1 on AAA (Mediabase) for 7 weeks.
?1 on Triple A Audience (Billboard) for 7 weeks.
?1 on Triple A (Billboard) for 6 weeks, just missing it to Mumford & Sons at that first week by a tiny margin.

    What a run!

Pollstar released its Top 50 Worldwide Tours, ranked by cumulative gross. Carrie comes in at #47 with $29.2 million grossed from 60 shows in North America, the UK, and Australia (54 dates in North America, 1 in the UK, 5 in Australia).

2012 Blown Away Tour summary stats from Pollstar:

Number of dates: 60 (59 cities)
    Total gross: $29.2 million
    Average ticket price: $60.02
    Average attendance: 8,246
    Total tickets sold: 486,504
    Average gross: $494,915

Pollstar had the following summary statistics for the 2010 Play On Tour:
    Number of shows: 102
    Total gross: $38.3 million
    778,930 attendance
    Average gross: $375,490
    Average attendance: 7,637
    Average ticket price: $49.17

With 45+ dates set for the 2013 leg of the Blown Away tour, the total gross for Carrie’s current tour is poised to blow away the total gross for the Play On tour. The average attendance may also be higher but with a caveat: the 2nd leg in North America includes a bunch of smaller market shows where the grosses will be high because of higher ticket prices but the average attendance might be lower than the BA tour’s current average.

I’m not sure what you mean by radio “letting” a song hit #1, but “Home” is almost definitely not going to hit #1 on Pop radio. It’s at #10 on that chart this morning — nearly 7000 spins behind the #1 song. And with a bullet of +3, it looks like it has basically peaked in that format. I would expect Interscope to release “Gone Gone Gone” in early January, and once that happens, “Home” is probably going to start dropping relatively quickly on every format except AC (where songs can remain on the chart for months, sometimes years)

People on my twitter feed have been flailing about the Les Miz movie for months. And I saw that it almost doubled its projected 1 day box office take. So I’m not surprised the soundtrack is selling well.

  • girlygirltoo

The Mediabase Triple A chart this morning is interesting. Out of the Top 50 songs, only 6 have a positive bullet — and only one of the Top 10 songs does.

  • girlygirltoo

do you have the link for UK Mix where it shows the Soundscan #s? I thought I had the link, but that one seems to be outdated.

  • girlygirltoo

I’m not sure if this is the most recent Billboard Box Score, although it does lists concerts that took place in mid-December, so it may be (I apologize if this is an old chart and these numbers have already been posted on here)

    http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/charts/currentboxscore.jsp

Carrie is the highest ranking Idol/XF/Voice artist on here, coming in at #14, #17, #27, #31, #33 and #35

The WQDR “Country for Kids” show that Scotty was part of comes in at #75, while one of Clay’s Christmas shows comes in at #82.

I see one show for Allen Stone at #116, but it doesn’t mention Haley, so I don’t think she opened for him at that gig

“As we all know, there are approximately 56,123 Billboard charts.” Really? I, for one, had NO idea! Lol! Interesting fact to tuck away for future…

  • jpfan2

Billboard posted this a few days ago:

“Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” is shaping up to be the biggest
beneficiary of gift card downloads, as it could sell somewhere in the range of
    525,000 to 575,000.”

It looks like Home is ending the week with about half of Swift’s sales so figure another 250-280K sold.  That much closer to 4xplat.

  • LongKissGoodnight

The World from the Side of the Moon is all the way up to #3 on my i-tunes live feed!
    Deluxe version is at #46.
It is very interesting to see how the positions of regular and Deluxe edition have switched from the first weeks when predominant majority of buyers were Idol fans to now, the beginning of the 7th week when it seems that proportions screw towards new recruits.
Generally 2 weeks after Christmas/new year are rather generous to rock and indy acts, since it’s the music of choice for a lot of young people redeeming i-tunes gift carts, and exchanging physical albums.

Phillip appears to be among the acts to benefit from this wave, as there are impressive 5 (five!) alt.rock albums in top 10 on i-tunes right now:

    1. Babel – Mumford & Sons,
    3. The World from the Side of the Moon – Phillip Phillips,
    6. My Head Is an Animal – Of Monsters and Men,
    7. The Lumineers – The Lumineers,
    8. Night Visions – Imagine Dragons.

Seems to me Phillip is positioned to have another very nice week ahead of him (comparatively speaking of course, because as we all know first week of new year is a time when sales tend to fall of a cliff).

  • jpfan2

Woo hoo. I see the album at #3 also. According to the BB streaming chart the album wasn’t predicted to be in the top 10 for the week ending yesterday. It would be fantastic if it could return to the top 10 this week. The sales will be down by a big % of course but the chart position would be amazing.

  • LongKissGoodnight

    Ahha!
Thanks to maymay on another thread the mastery of rocket-like assent of Phillip’s album have been solved.
Apparently I-tunes is offering a special prise for the number if hot albums, among them is  regular addition of ‘The World’ priced $6.99.
There are only two albums in top 10 on i-tunes right now that are selling at the regular price – the most resent release of the bunch Les Misérables’ Soundtrack, and of course the album of the holidays season – Red by Taylor Swift.
Apparently the deal ends January 3.

  • jpfan2

Thanks for solving the mystery!  Hopefully iTunes does the job and gets the album back into the top 10 of the BB200 this week.

  • girlygirltoo

All the Christmas albums are likely going to start dropping down (or off) the charts, which will help the non-Xmas albums move back up.

    Airplay updates:

    7. PHILLIP PHILLIPS – Home: 108.099 (+ 0.117)
Home looks to have peaked on CHR but is still gaining audience (thanks to AC) so it will stay in the top 10 of iTunes for the immediate future.
