This segment from tonight’s O’Reilly Factor was supposedly about “The Christian Influence on American Idol” but if you ask me, it was just another excuse to flash those controversial photos of Adam Lambert kissing dudes.

I mean seriously. What? Kris Allen is a Christian, but I’d wager a bet that lots of viewers don’t even know it–it’s barely been mentioned on the show.

O’Reilly’s attempt to trump up some phony culture war between Idol voters is pretty lame.

  • MaleficentOddity

Seriously this would have to be one of the most pointless segments ever!

Doesn’t O’Reilly have something better to talk about??

  • bjames

as a Christian, these kinds of things are beyond frustrating and annoying.

  • lola

As always, O’reilly wants to be controversial but who really cares about what he says. He’s egoistic. He’s not all saint either.

  • papercut

I agree with MaleficentOddity that this is the most pointless segment ever about AI that I have watched in the past few weeks. This is ridiculous and outrageous. I can’t even begin to fathom how crazy this is.

I am voting for Adam tomorrow but I am really feeling like everything is against him. I think that Adam may lose tomorrow and it will be because of people like Oh’really.

Why can’t people just vote for the one with the most talent? If you think Kris has more talent, then vote for him. But do not vote for him just because he is Christian. That is an insult to the people who are really voting for the talents.

This saddens me because Adam really does not deserve all the hate. In all of the interviews that I have read, he is a very nice man who does not sound cocky or mean.

  • jz

    ~ Oh O-Reilly ~
You sure like flashing those cropped kissing pics at us!
    ~ Oh O-Reilly ~
You sneaky little non-Idol-watchin Idol commentator!
    ~ Oooooh Ooo-Reillyyyyyy ~

  • milly93

Bill O’Reilly = scum. At least in this clip.

  • TKat

What a stupid interview. And I guess Bill doesn’t remember his last interview about American Idol where he had the whole voting thing explained to him.

I don’t know who would listen to Bill O. about AI voting anyway. But I think the Newsweek reporter really insulted Christians.

  • anna in vegas

Did O’Reilly really say he doesn’t even watch Idol? Enough said!

But going back and watching the vid, it was the jerk reporter who misquoted Simon!

  • samharrisfan

This is ridiculous. A segment of no meaning.

Adam, as far as I know it, is Jewish. Why should his faith be factor in Idol, much as Danny’s or Kris’s faith be a factor.

I like both Kris and Adam and am glad that they’ve formed a friendship.

O’Reilly is so much of a non-influential guy right now… this is an obvious “that one guy is GAY so let’s not vote for him” segment.

I hope tomorrow is the best finale ever and I wish both Adam and Kris the best!

  • cookbunny

O’Reilly is an ignorant asshat. NEXT.

No, I have to comment further…O’Reilly is of a strong “us vs. them” mentality, “them” being Hollywood, celebrities, etc. I noticed that when the Newsweek guy mentioned that the judges were all about Adam, I could see that little hamster wheel in Bill’s head turning. “Why, those liberal commie pinhead Hollywood celebs are pushing the gay guy on us! Another battle in my imaginary culture war! Well, we have a vote too, and I’m gonna stand up for The Folks [and can I just say how dismissive that term, "the folks," is?] who would obviously want a more traditional Idol!” Yep, those little code words sent out to the O’Reilly nation…you can bank on it.

And he’s still an ignorant asshat.

  • mikeyb

I’m going to partake in homophobic nutcase backlash. I was going to vote casually on Tuesday night, but now I’m going to power vote for Adam. He deserves better than to be pulled down by this asshole and people like him.

  • 9crimes

I want them to hit the Factor on their post-Idol press circuit. Or I want them on Olbermann/Maddow. Either way, if O’Reilly’s blood pressure spikes and a little bit of his world schema comes crumbling down, then it’s a winning situation.

  • http://youtube.com/user/ConcertCameraCat Sparkles

Here’s the Newsweek article the segment was based on
    http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/popvox/archive/2009/05/12/religion-and-idol-could-adam-lambert-be-heading-home.aspx
If only Clay came out back in Season 2, we would have already been through all this crap. Who cares? I think most people will be voting for their favorite singer on Tuesday night.

  • AC

There was a press conference today with Kris and Adam and Kris made it obvious that he does not want the Christian vote only because of his religion. He doesn’t think that religion has anything to do with this and it seems like they’re both aware of what the press is trying to create and neither seems to want to have anything to do with it. I totally agree because I don’t want my favorite entertainment show to veer towards politics.

I love Kris! (and Adam too) but I’m totally voting for Kris because he is super talented!

  • jlurksacto

I dunno. Ask Newsweek Magazine, the one who started this. O’Reilly was reporting what Newsweek published.

    Doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly have something better to talk about??

    Fixed! Heh.

  • NOLA

    cute LOL

  • Adia

This could have been an interesting discussion, but O’Reilly is going for the “controversy”. I remember the article (I think), there was a discussion about how many singers had been Christian/religious and showing there had been a high number overall. But this is mostly for the hype.

  • cricket

I have never heard Kris say a word about religion.
This was one of the dumbest articles ever written. Someone should tell the writer(and I use the term loosely) that american idol is a singing contest and has nothing to do with someones religion. A talentless writer ginning up a controversy to get publicity. If anything , he is trying to stir up anti-christian bias and dreamed up this junk as a call to arms for all the christian haters.Newsweek stopped being a legitimate news source a long time ago.
I could care less what someones religion is . It is a SINGING COMPETITION.

  • crazy4adam2

I agree. Totally lame. TV Guide did a much better, barely subtle bashing of the “maybe gay guy” vs. the two Christians. It really pissed me off. This just made me roll my eyes.

  • lizland

Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reillyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s attempt to trump up some phony culture war between Idol voters is pretty lame.

    LOL, this made me laugh.

I think Bill O’Reilly is pulling a Simon Cowell S7. He actually wants Adam to win, so he is doing this to enrage the Adam fans so they vote like crazy tomorrow. Then he’ll have fodder for weeks for future shows.

But I think the reality is his show is unlikely to reach many Idol viewers. Heck, I would never know about any of his crap if it wasn’t for this blog as I avoid Fox News like the plague.

What a waste of almost 4 minutes. LOL.

ETA: I feel bad for both Adam And Kris. I’m sure they both want votes based on their talent.

oh bill…you really are a tool. very proud of kris for making its clear that he is not interested in a “christian vote”….just a vote based on talent. i can only imagine how much bigger/obnoxious this story would have been w. danny in the finale

  • ShariG

Have you ever seen Kris Allen wear a cross on the show? What is this guy talking about? I don’t think he has ever played up his Christianity. In fact, on the contrary he has said it shouldn’t matter in term of the competiton. This is all nonsense. I vote for Kris because I like his voice and his artistry. Period. I also like his personality, his looks, the way he responds to the judges criticism even when it is unfair and ridiculous. I am not voting for him because he is a Christian or because he is married or because he is straight. It is all beside the point. I hate that the media is focusing on any of this.

  • adamandeva

  • lifeisfun

As a Catholic I find this hurtful to Catholics/Christains too! To think that we don’t care about anything, except mindlessly voting for someone because we share the same faith is unfair! I really liked Adam from the very begining and my opinion never changed when I concluded he was gay. Kris had grown on me in this competition and not because he is Christian.

And Kris hasn’t talked about his faith.

Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reillyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s attempt to trump up some phony culture war between Idol voters is pretty lame.

  • Sunn

Orally is a flatulent arse no surprises there. But the Newsweek person! now there’s a new addition to the list of lazy amoral pseudo journalists
to whom traditional media owes it timely demise.

  • ShariG

You know, in spite of the fact that this interview is a piece of garbage, I do completely agree that is was unconscienable that Simon Cowell told America to vote for Adam after the final three performed last week. That was an unbelieveably biased and unfair statement for him to make and I was angry about it on behalf of both Danny and Kris. It was the only thing worse than the “knock out” comment from Cowell at the finale of Season 7 that I have seen on AI in the 8 years I have watched it.

  • LK09

The newsweek article is what we really ought to be talking about. What Oreilly said is the same ole thing that has been said over and over in the media. zzzzzzzzzzzz

Interesting that this was written before the final three. The guy says, “Adam is still the best singer in the competition. But since Idol isn’t really a singing competition–despite what Randy Jackson tells you every week–don’t be too shocked if there’s a shocker elimination this week.”

Adam IS extremely talented, but what this guy is wrong about is that everyone agrees that Adam is the best singer or that everyone likes his style of music. To each his own, but this is a lot more complicated than it seems.

It is obvious Bill couldn’t care less about Idol, but someone behind the scenes knows what people are talking about. Talking about such things is the name of the game in keeping those high ratings.

“I do completely agree that is was unconscienable that Simon Cowell told America to vote for Adam after the final three performed last week. That was an unbelieveably biased and unfair statement for him to make and I was angry about it on behalf of both Danny and Kris. shariG- I agree completely about Simon. In the D2 case, I think he knew exactly what he was doing. I think the begging for votes last time was genuine, but it will be interesting to see what he does in the finale. I bet he throws Kris under the bus in a sly way and builds up Adam but not OTT.

  • ShariG

I dislike O’Reilly immensely and will be voting 4 hour 4 Kris 4 the win.

  • anna in vegas

Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly was reporting sensationalizing what Newsweek published.

Great timing on O’Reilly’s part! Hopefully people will disregard this as more of Bill’s “self-absorbent rubbish!”

  • LK09

If Adam wins, it MAY be because of the dozens of media stories and blog posts highlighting his sexual preference and how he symbolizes a more tolerent America. I don’t care who wins, but I hope we can move beyond this and Adam will not be saddled with that his entire career. I will not tell you who to vote for.

  • Grammie Kari

But I think the reality is his show is unlikely to reach many Idol viewers. Heck, I would never know about any of his crap if it wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t for this blog as I avoid Fox News like the plague.

I am not so sure about this. It is quite possible that many of his devoted viewers had no intention of watching AI or voting. He may have gotten some of them to vote for Kris because he’s the Christian guy. Remember the people that run the FOX Cable News Network are very conservative. Some believe bi-sexual or gay people will burn in hell.

As egotisical as O’Reilly is, he will be gloating if Adam loses. This is politics and religion at its all time worse.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I most likely will not be voting for 4 hours. LOL. I’m pulling for Adam. I think his body of work on Idol this season has been better than Kris’ body of work.

That said, I wouldn’t let this BOR piece change my mind anymore than I would let Simon change my mind. I vote for my faves. Period.

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

At Kris’s church website, it lists 3 church locations: Conway, Greater Little Rock and Heber Springs. On each location’s page, there is a rectangular blue VOTE sign overlaid with the white Kris Allen signature, which is actually a hyperlink to a Facebook login.

By this stage of the competition, Kris is in trouble if he is counting on his loyal church friends or a Newsweek reporter on The O’Reilly Factor to bring his victory home — which I don’t think he is, by any stretch of the imagination.

  • clearone

    Perez is fast.

Perez is a jerkoff. Guess he couldn’t wait for Adam to be himself after the competition. Gee PH, was that a load of crap? You betcha.

  • Diana

Never thought of Kris as the “Christian guy”. Maybe the folky singer songwriter guy.

O’Reilly is just desperate to fan the culture wars. I”m sure he’s upset that he didn’t get the Danny vs Adam (Angel vs Devil) finale.

  • mk88

Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly is just desperate to fan the culture wars. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ m sure heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s upset that he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get the Danny vs Adam (Angel vs Devil) finale.

If Danny make it to top 2 it is more appropriate that the devil tag be given to Danny : )

  • LindaT

The fact is Adam now appears to be the underdog in this contest, not because of his singing ability (or lack thereof), but because of factors that have nothing to do with talent:
    - The homophobes are out in force, encouraging everyone to to vote for Kris because of sexual orientation (I’ve seen some really ugly comments on the boards at some sites)
    - The anti-semites are also starting to rear their ugly heads (again, some bad comments on some message boards)
    - Back-lash against judges’ perceived “pimping” of Adam
    - “Gotcha” gossip reporting from Perez and the like (anything for a scoop!).

It’s really too bad. I feel sorry for Adam and his family if they are seeing any of these negative comments. I wish the people who post this stuff would ask themselves how they would feel if someone was writing ugly things about their son/brother/best friend. Very sad!

I hope everyone who watches the finale tomorrow can try their best to focus on the singing. These are two talented, seemingly very nice young men, and they both deserve to be judged based solely on their performances, not anything else.

  • Chipmunk

Just more and more crap piled on..Is it Wednesday yet?

  • colette

I love that Kris! Take that, Bill O’Reilly! (and well said Adam, too) — Here is something from the press conference the Top 2 had today (quoted from Krisallennation.com)

Kris, there’s been talk that since you are active in your church, that the Christian vote is helping you. What do you think of it?

Kris Allen: I hope that having the Christian vote does not help with anything. I hope it has to do with the talent and the performance that you give. It’s not about religion and all that kind of stuff.

Adam Lambert: This is a singing competition, not a church thing.

    Kris: Yeah, totally.

Adam: I would hope people vote based on what they like to hear. I don’t think it has anything to do with your religious background, what color you are, gender. It doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have anything to do with that.

  • In the Stars

I have always been a Fox News fan and have watched Bill O’Reilly. After tonight..I won’t be watching anymore!!! How dare he AND the Newsweek do this of all things the night before the finale!!!!!!!! I’m so mad I could spit nails.
To add insult to injury they showed those pictures again. Totally wrong!!!!! I am a Christian and I love Adam Lambert and will be voting for him like crazy tomorrow night. True Christians don’t treat others in the hateful way Adam is being treated. That Entertainment Weekly cover was an insult too. They act as if they are praising him and then hit him with a zinger. I am so sad for Adam that after working all these years, is now experiencing success, and people just won’t let him enjoy it. Why does being gay have to be an issue at all? All Adam is..is a nice young man, humble, caring of others, a great son to his parents and the best singer Idol has ever had. He’s just ADAM LAMBERT not gay Adam Lambert. As a mother I wish I could shield him from all the hatefulness. You know Adam may seem as if this doesn’t bother him but you know down deep inside it does. Adam I wish you could read this and know that we ALL care for you and love you and honey I’ll be first in line to buy you album.

  • abbysee

Damn, so much assyness going on today. Sarver, Gokey,O’Reilly……

Adam’s being hit by all sides with religion and sexuality. Perez just posted a pic of Adam’s supposed boyfriend. Right after the press conference where he said he hopes tomorrow is just about singing.

I was the perfect antidote to Bill O’s crap.

MJ, why not replace the hedious head of O’Rielly with this great interview! It will certainly brighten up a lot of mornings.

  • AC

Ahh! This show and that segment was so full of bullshit. All of OReilly’s guests share the same opinions as him but he tries to disguise it as trying to get other opinions. If it really was someone with a different opinion, OReilly would have started yelling at him.

I don’t think that Kris tries to push his religion on us as they are trying to imply with his the crosses that he does not actually wear! Geez i stare at him as he comes out and all he has is that necklace that I think Paula gave to the contestants. newsweek is supposed to be somewhat reputable and they just don’t check their facts at all.

I am a very liberal, from San Francisco, and am voting for Kris Allen. In fact, most of my gay friends like him too. I’m sure there are a few that vote on religious beliefs or what not but I don’t think it is true at all. In fact, I have voted for somewhat in which their viewpoints have been strongly different from mine. I remember seeing that Jordin has a pro-life point of view while I am pro-choice but that doesn’t mean I didn’t vote for hours for her since I thought she had the best voice.

  • http://www.myspace.com/chachithegreat chachi

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ m sure heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s upset that he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get the Danny vs Adam (Angel vs Devil) finale.

It will probably ruin their special Angels and Demons movie tie-in deal for the finale in which Tom Hanks tries to solve where BOR’s soul ran off to.

If someone is planning to vote for Kris because he’s a Christian instead of for the music…he said he doesn’t want them. That’s a nice a way of telling you to take your homophobe votes and shove them up your ass.

13 minutes of true, sweet friendship.

    http://www.myfoxorlando.com/dpp/entertainment/american_idol/051809_Idol_finalists_focus_on_singing

Thanks for the link, twinkle. They are so adorable. It’s so much nicer to watch people actually have respect for each other, regardless of their life choices. (I’m looking at you, Gokey) Which are also completely irrelevant, yet are brought up in 95% of the posts I have read around the internet all weekend, either positive or negative.

As I’ve always thought with women’s rights…we will be equal when it isn’t (or doesn’t need to be) brought up as an issue. We will be equal when it is the social norm that is simply accepted as fact. It’s the same with gay rights and I’m not sure either case will ever truly happen. This stupid karaoke show just proves how much further we have to go when this is SUCH an issue. It’s very disheartening.

  • cookcricket

Didn’t watch the video, haven’t read comments. All I have to say is please leave the culture war out and let this be a singing competition.

Reality, Smeality. American watches this for escape, not real life imo, for the most part.

  • GeminiDolly

Perez doesnt care, its all about his egotistical ugly self. He just wants hits on his site. Maybe its just a sad coincidence Adam said he wanted tomorrow to be about the singing and then Perez posts the picture. If Perez really had Adam’s interest at heart, he could have at least waited until after the finale to get the hits.

  • lola

Perez Hilton is trash. She’s making stories to make herself controversial. She was assuming that that maybe his boyfriend (she’s not even sure). Adam maybe gay but I love his talent. I am for the underdog – Adam!

  • skylight1219

This is actually the 3rd segment that BOR has done. He doesn’t watch the show since he is opposite them in the 8:00 time frame on Tuesdays. I don’t think he was being negative toward Adam. He even said in one of his earlier segments that it’s about the talent.

Why is this being blown out of proportion? Yes, he showed the photos, but, they’ve been all over the internet anyway. He shows photos and videos of a lot of people, and isn’t singling out Adam.

He let the commentator make the segment while he asked questions. The producers put the segments up. BOR just does the script.

We don’t really know what Kris thinks, but, one thing for sure – he’s a lot more savvy than Gokey. If I preferred Adam’s style of music, I would vote for him. But, since I don’t – I won’t.

I don’t find Kris particularly exciting as a performer, but, I do like his style and genre and hope he makes a good record.

I think Perez Hilton is a guy?

  • GeminiDolly

Jay Leno made a funny at Adam Lambert’s expense.

“The economy’s so bad that American Idol’s Adam Lambert had to start using Sharpies for eyeliner.”

I don’t see anything different being said there than has been discussed here and everywhere else ad nauseum.

That being said, BOR is an ass. Not because of this clip, because he’s a royal ass.

kris appears to be a Hypocrite……if he does not want the CHRISTian vote –why does he have his name and Vote on his Church website……he should have DEMANDed they TAKE it down…..

  • Amanda

Okay that’s it Bill O’reilly… I used to watch your show… NOW..after you keepr rubbing in and calling ADam Lambert a gay guy… I will not watch your show anymore. I thought you are decent man and reasonable. After I watch you over and over during election… now I know why Fox is most Hated TV in the nation. I guess you brought it.. I keep thinkin’ why and keep depending Fox station. I guess YOu are the AASHOLE that a lot of viewer are calling… u even show that Hates’ video caller. Now I know and I don’t blame them… I am Tuning OFF when you are on the SHow from Now ON. If you Believe in Christ.. You are one I called HYPocrite Christian and there’s a lot of them.

By the way Adam Lambert is a GREAT singer… his talents is outrageous. It seems odd to me that you keep callin’ him a Gay Guy.. Who are YOU to judge? I am a Christian and I don’t judge people by their appearance. So, if Adam seems to be over the top then you Label him .. YOu and the Narrow minded here in America

Let’s skip the part of Gender… Don’t forget we are talking about a Singing contest here… we are Not having a CONTEST about their SEXUAL ORIENTATION…… so my Question is Why do we concerns what Adam’s orientation is. It’s about singing for Goodness sake… I hope you will NOT invite Adam on your Show… and even if you DO.. I’ll make sure he doesn’t go to your show. You know What will happen about that.
No wonder Sarah Palin doesn’t wanna come in to your SHow…You are the MOST HATED Journalist out there… I depends you all the time… My hubby used dto like you until you started become a Big A**hole in your show…. then when I start watching you and see it for myself.. I can see why my husband changing the channel if you are on the show… Sorry Oreilly… that’s the end of watching your show. I am going to make a huge comments to your site.

I hope America is not listening about what Orielly has to say about Adam… I know there are a lot of you that will vote base on Talents, after all it is about talents… artistry. Let’s not judge the contestant by their looks or cuz of their background. As far as I’m concerns Adam and Kris will be competing with their talents. We all know who has the MOST talents and incredible voice.
Kris has some talents but not as GREAT as Adam… he knows it. They are both nice people.
But media let’s not ruin the chance of Adam cuz of the label you keep tagging him.
Adam Lambert will be the Next American Idol this season… O’reilly shut the f*ck Up… Concentrate on the News.. especially OBAMA.. stay out of showbiz. Make a real news out there. Go fine out who will run against Obama in 2012… Who is capable in the Republican corner is brave enough to face Obama.

    Check it out.

A discussion over homophobia and Adam has reached the recommended list on Daily Kos, one of the most widely-read political blogs on the entire internet (I’m a very frequent visitor):

THANK YOU for the link to the press conference!!

These guys have got to be true friends. When you watch the video, notice their body language. They are almost a mirror image of each other. Tilting their heads the same way, shifting in their chairs, where their hands are placed, looking at each other.

That’s something you see in long time friends or siblings.

It made me think of the media interviews of Taylor Hicks and #2. You could feel her dislike for him through the TV screen.

coco, just a wild guess on my part but maybe the folks at Kris’ church actually know him and like him and his singing? Going to a church is not just about the religion for many people. It’s also a place of gathering, fellowship and camaraderie.

  • AC

Kris’s name is on that church because he is part of that church not because they are trying to push the Christian vote on anyone. I even checked out the link and it just directs you to his facebook page. It does not tell you to vote for him because that’s what God wants or what not. *ahem*

If Adam wins, it MAY be because of the dozens of media stories and blog posts highlighting his sexual preference and how he symbolizes a more tolerent America. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care who wins, but I hope we can move beyond this and Adam will not be saddled with that his entire career. I will not tell you who to vote for.

I don’t get how tons of stories trying to rise up the anti-gay sentiments and pro-Christian sentiments, will help Adam, than hurt him. Especially right before the last voting.

Perez and Bill are equally repulsive to me, by the way. And equally devoid of any kind of morality or character. How funny that they probaby hate each other, when they both resemble each other in their ickiness.

The thing of it is, if there were only a million votes between 88 million separating Adam and Kris, who is to say that it won’t be made up of people who wouldn’t normally care, who voted based on ick like BOR ?These are people who have been proven to be fanatical about culture “wars,” and even if they are a minority, in a contest where it may come down to a small percentage of voting, this kind of ish might ultimately matter.

I mean, I think it’s lame and shouldn’t matter. But it might, and that would suck.

  • stacyyim

AC from San Francisco, yeah just keep voting for your little forbidden fruit, nothing wrong with that. Please just don’t feel angry when Adam loses and all the gay haters begin to celebrate. Oh, remember why you can’t get married over there? It’s because too many of you thought people are not as biased as they used to be, turned out they still are.

I’ve watched it 3x now, and I’d say that it’s much ado about nothing. Again, O’Reilly doesn’t like AI, doesn’t watch AI and only reports on it for ratings purposes. To me, his guest is a media hack douche. He seems to elevate his voice and flash a wry smile everytime he says “Church,” “Christian,” etc. Yeah, as if they’re completely alien concepts in America! LOLz. He does seem to enjoy all of this media-fabricated “controversy,” as he glibly fans the flames of the fanwars with his blah-blah-blahing about bloc voting habits and about how Danny’s so-called “Christian Vote” might go to Kris. And his description of Kris and his supposed constant cross-wearing is a gross exaggeration. So, all in all, it’s more of a hit piece on Kris. But again, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. As for showing the gay photos (again!), I think that the producers need to find a more creative way of stirring the pot for ratings. This is getting old.

  • jgirl89

I’m a christian. I resent the fact that people vote because they maybe think adam is gay, so the won’t vote for him. I love Kris’ voice and Adam’s is just not my style. If it was an Adam/ Danny finale- my votes would go to Adam because I can’t stand Danny’s voice.
This interview was interesting and how Kris & Adam answered if they thought religion played a part with voting.

Found this on a forum discussing Adam. I thought it was great! And maybe a little bit necessary after O’Reilly’s hit piece:

    The Daily Adam Prayer

Give us this day, our U2b clip and forgive us our idol worship, as we forgive those who don’t vote for Adam. Lead us not into the hour following Idol and deliver us from Seacrest. Out.

It should be about the music.

I’m actually wondering how much of this is preaching to the choir. While it’s undeniable that O’Reilly has a certain amount of clout amongst a set demographic, his opinions on the matter are basically tempered by his own admission that he does not follow AI and the fact that Adam’s appeal seems to be making irrelevant mincemeat out of the red state/blue state divide, especially amongst the younger voting blocs. Clearly this is not his area of expertise, and I really would like to know if his identity as a pundit generalizes beyond his so-called wheelhouse to lend him an air of ostensible authority in matters which his two cents are basically worthless.

It’ll be — well, interesting, to say the least. It’s apparently too much to ask for the culture war to be left out of this, and that’s deeply unfortunate.

  • AC

Stacyyim- I’m sorry but what are you even talking about? First of all, I’m female and straight but I have a lot of gay friends and we are all rooting for Kris. I was saying that it’s not so straightforward saying that gays only vote for gays or Christian voting for Christians. What does gay marriage even have to do with anything? My point is that I do not believe in culture wars as Bill O Reilly is implying. And technically, they are all forbidden fruit and I have no fantasies about being with either or them.

Geez coco, how can you say that?? His church members are just being supportive and are obviously fans of Kris, i don’t think Kris insisted they do that. You can already tell from Kris’s interviews that he has always kept his religion and being Christian on low profile, he’s not like Danny. Nothing wrong to me in fact about shouting out being Christian, but since Kris has worked his way through the competition with such low noise level on how active he is at church, i’m going on a limb here to say that all his friends, family and supporters just happen to be from church. I don’t see anything wrong in putting his name on his church’s website……it’s just like putting Adam’s name up on his drama school (for instance speaking). Not cool to call someone hypocritical when you hardly know him. :huh_tb:

  • lola

After watching their press conference, I don’t think there is a competition anymore. As they said, they have already won and both have arrived to where they want to be. I can feel their genuine admiration that they will be very happy for each other if either of them wins. They won’t outsing each other but will present themselves as to who they are as an artist.

I like this. Now I won’t feel the pain so much. No more pressure. I will just enjoy the show. I’m sure it will be a great one.

The heck with Bill…too me who cares what he says….it doesn’t do a thing regarding Adam.

First off I’m a Christian who loves Jesus & who loves Adams VOICE even tho HE IS GAY! I’m Not giving him a GAY vote! Lol..Tards!!! I Am giving him a vote that is based on his Voice ALONE. Thank God Gokey is gone….Adam acted more like Jesus on the show then anyone….that is still very odd to me…

Christians who cant vote for Adam because he is gay are miss informed . You are not supporting the gay lifestyle if you vote for him you are casting a vote based on the singer alone. How I could bible beat you on that makes me happy…but I wont…haha…you need to grow up first. Its too much salt or should I say light.

This is not a religious or a gay – straight war! This is a singing competition of who is the best singer.

If JESUS were to Vote he would say à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“ I have given Adam a God like voiceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ I gave Kris a smooth voice for coffee shops and barns & noble so you could relax & go buy my best seller…the bible.

I love the Daily Adam Prayer and plan on saying it tonight. I am also in the Zen camp – those of us who have decided not to obsess over what Adam will or won’t sing and just trust that he knows best ;-)

I read in an article somewhere that Adam’s response to the whole is he isn’t he, really just highlights how so many out there in the news and media need to collectively grow the f#@k up. Or as someone else somewhere put it – if you have to ask the question you aren’t ready for the answer.

I think after the press conference we can expand that.

Kris and Adam’s response to the asinine and demeaning questions about religion show a maturity that is sadly lacking across some areas of society. Who would of thought that the finalists of this fairy floss of a show would end up schooling America on tolerance … maybe times really are a changin’

    In Adam I trust.

Here is something from the press conference the Top 2 had today (quoted from Krisallennation.com)

Kris, thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been talk that since you are active in your church, that the Christian vote is helping you. What do you think of it?

Kris Allen: I hope that having the Christian vote does not help with anything. I hope it has to do with the talent and the performance that you give. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not about religion and all that kind of stuff.

Adam Lambert: This is a singing competition, not a church thing.

    Kris: Yeah, totally.

Adam: I would hope people vote based on what they like to hear. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think it has anything to do with your religious background, what color you are, gender. It doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have anything to do with that.

@colette – Thank you for sharing that. Made me love Kris a little bit more as a person.

I love both contestants, and I’d be happy if either of them won. While it’s awesome that Kris has gotten this far and captured the hearts of millions of voters despite the lukewarm treatment from the judges, Adam’s a pretty aggressive competitor from the get-go. I kind of get the vibe that Adam’s still in this to win, but whether he does or doesn’t isn’t really such a big deal anymore for either of them, and that’s really moving to watch.

This sort of healthy competition and mutual respect is such a refreshing thing to witness after all the cutthroat competitions we’ve been fed in the past years. This season’s going to be really hard to top for AI — I doubt I’d be this moved in seasons to come.

  • wand3rful

wait, so kris’ own church and his friends who belong to that church are not allowed to promote his Idol run?? so…..what about his work? or college? family? his mom’s bridge club? dad’s fishing buddies? please let me know who is allowed to support kris :rolleyes_tb: :wacko_tb:

It seems like there are many now who wants their 15 minutes of fame at the expense of Adam Lambert.

They probably perceive him as the phenom, the star of Season 8.
I am so tired of these people.

I am now tuning out. I will focus on enjoying the finale , and as promised by both Adam and Kris – I know we will be enjoying the most fabulous finale of all seasons.
What wisdom this two are teaching us. Friendship in the midst not only of diversity but also in the midst of intense competition.

Good luck to Adam and Kris.

And yes all of us in my family are behind Adam, all the way ! And we have adopted Kris as well ! Although we are rooting for an Adam win, we have decided that we will also be including Kris’ music in our collection.

Thank you Adam and Kris. You both did great this season. Thanks !

    Ugh.
I work at a newspaper, as a layout/copy editor, which means I pretty much read stories for a living. If that piece of pointless crap came across my desk, I’d be having a serious talk with the reporter. There’s no story there – just a bunch of pointless waffling, and another excuse to post “those” pix. I asked myself what headline I’d put on that (because we do that, reporters don’t write headlines) and I couldn’t think of one. There’s nothing harder than trying to put a headline on a non-story.
And I may burn in hell for this …. but I think those pictures are hot.

    Pathetic excuse for a non-story.

And yeah, it was as much about telling BOR’s audience that “Kris is Christian too, you guys!” so vote for him now that Danny’s gone, as it was about reminding them about the photos.

Why do folks like BOR think perpetuating divisiveness in our society is a positive thing, that’s what I want to know? I think that guy’s going to wake up one day and apologize to America — it’ll be from his deathbed, but still…

My vote is to take our cues from Kris and Adam in their long Fox interview late last night (posted on Fox Orlando and probably other sites too.) They both asked that it please not be about that tonight. Classy dudes, the two of them. BOR should watch and take notes. I dare him to do THAT story — how Kris and Adam feel about it.

  • savgal

You know, this sort of does remind me of a political election–voting for someone because of the group they are in, rather than how well they have served their constituents. Kris would only want votes b/c of his performances (well, and there are those of us who also like his appearance and style of music). If you go to Krisallenation, they are extremely respectful of Adam and encourage everyone to do the same, on and off forums. O’Reilly likes to stir the pot and get dialogue going, and he is actually a libertarian.

  • amaye

MJ, reading all this early morning rage I’d like to second the suggestion that this interview: This Interview be posted front and center for a while to ward off all the crazy.

    i mean, c’mon:

Both singers said they have become friends and felt like they have already won the popular Fox singing competition, pledging to support each other’s music in the future.

“I know I’m going to be first in line to buy his album,” gushed Lambert.

“Same here,” added Allen. “Maybe you’ll give it to me.”

“You don’t have to buy it,” teased Lambert. “I’ll send you a copy.”

FOX LOVES to show “controversial” photos in the disingenuous guise of “tsk-tsk”! Check out their “We’re outraged!” stories about sex, prostitution, strippers, etc. (e.g., Miss CA’s topless photos).

Adam is Jewish. Too bad for the “Christians” at FOX, ain’t it?

SO glad I cancelled my Newsweek subscription some time ago.

BillO: Just another “hetero” guy who can’t stop talking about The Adam. Heh.

  • thedingoateyobaby

Bill OReilly has always been more than a little interested in sex, the kinkier the better. He never misses a chance to show the scantily clad young thing in a bikini using the premise that its bad for the children to be exposed to sex but looping the commercial he says he is offended by over and over and over and over again.

He wrote a novel which had a scene in it that was highly erotic and a bit disturbing. He is obsessive about sex, as all homophobes are. He is so insecure with his own sexuality that he cant help but point fingers at those who are gay, as if by doing so it will make him more secure. He is a bully.

The sad thing is that he always does this sort of thing on his show by thinly veiling it under a topic like cultural morality and religion. Most people who are rabidly anti gay are religious people and they watch OReilly faithfully. They vote in elections and their children will vote for their Idol. There is a large anti gay contingent out there, its better than it used to be but its most definitely there.

I think Kris will win and Im ok with that, I like him and I like that he accepts Adam as he is. He doesnt flaunt his religious beliefs, he walks the walk. I will vote for Adam like crazy tonight and hope that the stars are all aligned right and that jupiter is in mars.

True but Adam was far from being a celebrity when those pictures were posted.

The sad thing about all this is no matter which one wins, this crap will always be hanging over their heads as a dark cloud and they’ll wonder if they won because of their talent or the political and religious outrage on either side. It sucks.

  • cay

In a close race, these things really make a difference. Oh well, Adam’s had to deal with it his whole life. I’ll vote like crazy tonight for Adam, but I’m sure Kris will win. Kris is everything that traditional Idol winners are. One article said he was Pat Boone. Can’t win a Fox Family Middle America talent show against a Pat Boone. Adam’s been a tool for the show and for all these media people. I hope that by not winning, he’ll still have some opportunities. Not as many though. TPTB got what they wanted out of him, and it would have been a dismal season without him.

  • idolbeat

Kris Allen’s job was a Worship Leader. You are not a Worship Leader without professing your faith and spreading your faith. It is nothing you leave at your job – it is who you are. We aren’t a part of what goes on behind the scenes. He was quoted as saying AI isn’t about religion but don’t think people are not voting on his behalf because of his beliefs. Right or wrong. Many people are voting beause they think he is hot. Whatever.

  • zs

As much as I would like to see Adam win, it will not be a surprise if Kris wins. If Kris does win, I hope the media does not make it feel like he won simply because of Adam’s lifestyle orientation . Fox is only one of many representation of media’s take on the finals. Kris has proved himself to be an equally endearing singer performer and has the potential to be a huge success. Both Adam and Kris have been extremely down to earth on the show and either winning will only mean they appeal to different sets of people and the one with the majority will deserve to be crowned. Either way, both will move on to have a great career, so hope people do not let their emotions take the better of them.

Not sure how many peeps my age (21) read and post here but my small sample of friends couldn’t care less who is jewish, christian, mormon, gay, black, short, blond, whatever. We vote for the peeps we like based on their performances and overall artistic ability. I only voted three times in my life for Melinda, Archie and Kris. As a classical musician myself I appreciate Adam’s craft but he is too OTT for me. My musician friends and I overanalyze every note in Idols’ performances but we vote for those who appeal to us even if they aren’t pitch perfect singers with Adam’s range. I don’t know anyone in my age group who would not vote for Adam due to his sexual persuasion or for Kris cause he is christian. If people’s religion and agenda get in our face, then we care but neither Adam nor Kris is a self righteous jerk. They both seem like many dudes I know, lol!

Canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t win a Fox Family Middle America talent show against a Pat Boone.

Yep. Pat Boone is the most popular artist in America today. Who doesn’t own one of his albums? All the past Idol winners have practically Pat Boone clones. Especially that Fantasia. Man, was she dullsville when she came back on AI last year to sing “Bore Me (Yawn)” Yawn! Except, not.

How did Adam’s sexuality get to be such an issue? Long time readers of AI know that all Idols are gay (at some point, every Idol seems to be declared gay by somebody. One past winner apparently even hired a fake-girlfriend to cover) and few were surprised when Clay declared himself to be gay. The entertainment industry is full of highly successful and influential gay people and nobody seems to think twice about it. Last year, one of the pivotal moments of the Finale was George Michael singing. Did the AI audience turn off the TV? NO.

So, I don’t get the sudden clutching at pearls. I hope that it’s just manufactured in the press and that nobody really cares who AI contestants consider to be attractive.

  • WinkyDink

I wonder what is FOX’s game here, with both BO’R and AI on the same network.

  • virgo03v

I thought the segment was actually stupid. There was no basis for the guestà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hypothesis. Might have been more of a point to the story if Danny had still been there. There was just too much of a stretch to make it have any merit.

The segment was stupid. The basis of the Newsweek’s guy hypothesis is that christians will only vote for other christians. They never mentioned Adam was Jewish, just that he’s not christian. Basically, its the us versus them argument.

The funny thing is, O’Reilly is either blabbing on like an idiot with no purpose, or trying to get people to not vote for adam. But IMO, this segment was more harmful for Kris than for Adam.

First of all, it will rile up a lot of Adam’s fan base, as well as many others that will vote simply to counteract this mythical “christian vote’ O’Reilly is pimping.

Second, if Kris does win, a lot of people will chalk it up to the christian vote putting him over the top instead of simply his talent. I think he has a legit shot to win tonight based on his fans and his talent and now even if he does win it will take credit away from his talent due to this little clip, and the other ones like it.

  • praepos

Why blame O’Reilly? He works for Fox. AI airs on Fox. Seems to me either the show’s producers or Fox went to O’Reilly and asked for some mention to hype the show tonight. O’Reilly probably responded with “We’ll work out some angle so it’ll fit my show–do some Christian/gay thing, whatever.” I’m sure the AI producers were fine with that. Fox was fine with that. O’Reilly calls up the Newsweek guy to give the segment some credibility. A few photos to back everything up and voila!–more people talking about it the next day, more viewership for the show, more money for everybody.

  • maturin

Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s name is on that church because he is part of that church not because they are trying to push the Christian vote on anyone. I even checked out the link and it just directs you to his facebook page. It does not tell you to vote for him because thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what God wants or what not. *ahem*

Our church would hype a kid from the parish if they went to the state spelling bee championship, too. Still have those trophies from the marching band finals that might have gone to some kid from Worcester if not for the illegitimate support of the Knights of Columbus local (thanks for the hotdog supper, guys!)!!

It’s no more wrong for your church folks to vote for you then Adam’s theater pals or his dad’s college classmates Facebook group or the Arkansas chamber of commerce etc. When they know you or your family and you’re connected to them by ties and they love you a little or a lot extra because of it, who’s against that?

It’s when a person who *doesn’t* know or care about you is asked to vote for you out of pure symbolic hostility, whether for religion, race, sexual orientation–O’Reilly’s hideous “gay guy vs christian guy”–that it gets poisonous.

Seriously, it’s clear that Kris never made his faith or his missionary work a reason to vote for him, and he *didn’t need to.*

When I was cheering for A/A/K earlier in the season, there were Gokey folks who said that those who disliked Gokey disliked all Christians. Now there are Adam folks who say that not voting for Adam is being against teh gay, and this dillwad saying vote for Kris (who he couldn’t pick out of a police lineup) is voting for Christianity.

A giant phooey on all of them. I’ve voted for both Adam and Kris at different points this season. I’m promiscuous that way.

  • KeyserS

I so agree with this. It’s not really different from a contestant’s, say, school or workplace getting the word out. Every contestant has had an organized support system in place. It may be more highly charged when it’s a church, and certainly the issue is bigger this season, but it’s certainly nothing new or sinister.

  • terfra

Well, Bill O’Reilly didn’t open all this up btw.
Too bad it is not a singing contest anymore thanks to those whom have done the damage of bringing up religion and anti gay.
That would be all those who have brought up Adam as gay and Danny who is a Christian. Those 2 did not talk about it, they were too busy doing a competition of singing. The damage has been done by the internet idol participants who brought the topic up and discussed it til it was a dead horse. THAT has made it no longer a singing competition.

I almost wish I had a subscription to Newsweek so I could cancel today! I also cannot hurt BORe’s ratings because I never watch the poor-excuse-of-a-show. We could all call and subscribe to NW today and call back tomorrow and cancel and tell them WHY!

  • lizland

O’Reilly is one of the most popular cable news guys, but that audience is just tiny. It sure didn’t help the Republicans this past election so I don’t think it’s going to have a big impact on Idol.

What will is the way his stupid show gets packaged and distributed by bloggers and others to stir interest in this “good vs evil” debate and to stir voters. I really believe most of the votes from this tactic will be for Adam out of anger for the bias.

No one who is not already interested in Idol is suddenly going to watch the show and vote for Kris just because of what O’Reilly said.

  • kate09

I am a Christian, and I am conservative. This is the first season I’ve watched Idol, & I was drawn in after a friend sent me a YouTube of Adam singing ‘Come To Me, Bend To Me’ from Brigadoon. Adam is the first AI contestant I’ve ever voted for, & likely he will be the last.

Regarding O’Reilly, I will say that he clearly does not watch AI, but he knows it is popular & has become a major player in mainstream American culture & thus he feels it deserves a mention on his show. I don’t understand the need to show the photos of Adam kissing a man AGAIN. I don’t despise O’Reilly but I do question his motives & decisions from time to time, & this is certainly one of those times. I don’t believe O’Reilly cares who wins AI, but he is interested in cultural shifts in America & Adam winning AI, when you compare him with the previous winners, would be an indicator that something has changed in America. This is America, and the sexual preference of an Idol contestant should have nothing to do with his or her chances of winning. Adam is the most talented in the competition this year, and he deserves to win & I will vote for him tonight. Honestly when I listen to my iPod or whatever is on the radio, I give zero thought to the personal lives of those singing. Adam is an amazing talent, period.

I am sick of hearing about the Christian aspect of the show & was glad to read both Kris & Adam’s statements that religion, race, gender, etc. just don’t matter b/c this is a singing competition. Kris is not on AI to convert people to Christianity, nor is Adam there to make a statement about homosexuality. They have both handled themselves well & I commend them.

  • maryct

ha! I love it when oreilly said about Gokey “Whos that?’ HAHAHAHA LOL..

    >>That would be all those who have brought up Adam as gay and Danny who is a Christian. Those 2 did not talk about it, >>

Its healthy to discuss this stuff. Its just beneath the surface and imho its a good thing when we speak of it. I dont think it will ever be a dead horse, not as long as we continue to think less of people who arent like we are. In any way.

One of my co-workers had a cousin who made an Idol run (came in fifth) and everybody was buzzing about it at work and some were trying to rally votes. Maybe he would have come in sixth if he’d had fewer cousins.

Cities and regions will also try to rally votes. It’s part of AI. That’s why they have home town visits and viewing parties. That’s why the local Fox affiliate runs stories about “Our Idol”.

  • LK09

All I have to say is please leave the culture war out and let this be a singing competition.

The media, including tons of left wing and gay blogs and writers, tried to make this a culture war a long, long time ago– way before Bill Oreilly ever said anything. I think it is very sad because neither of these guys will ever know if they won for their talent, and if Kris wins, it will be really ugly from a lot of directions.

I’m not invested in either guy and am not voting, so I don’t care, but I am watching with interest.

    ETA:

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand the need to show the photos of Adam kissing a man AGAIN.

He does this all of the time– showing sensational pictures of whatever controversy is brewing. He IS very popular, and as someone said, he shows what people are talking about, even if he doesn’t care about it.

  • JB1

After watching the clip, its a story about Newsweeks article, not something that O’Reilly drummed up himself. The interesting angle to me is that everyone expected that the Gokey-Lambert potential final would have been about the culture war. Now Kris Allen who everyone seems to think doesn’t much ever mention his religion is the poster boy for this media created issue. Sad really. I think the media is making more of it than is there. I do think that it could influence the voting, its almost a call to arms for some Christians who might otherwise as casual viewers not even have known Kris was Christian.

  • SparklesATL

Just for shits and grins, take a look at the sexual harassment lawsuit filed by O’R's executive producer in 2004. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1013043mackris1.html

Liberals have also exploited this issue. Those on the left who brought up the gay issue originally were just as much to blame in fanning the flames of this conflict as those on the right. Not that AI cares–as long as people talk about the show. Seacrest himself exploited the issue on his radio show to spark controversy and raise viewership.

  • kate09

I wanted to add that Kris Allen embodies what a Christian should be – a humble, kind, accepting, loving friend to everyone that crosses his path. Adam and Kris are both, by all accounts, wonderful people & their parents should be proud of the sons they’ve raised, both of them operating with grace under immense pressure from all directions.

    The final should be fantastic.

  • Kirsten

I think the fact that you wrote Gay with a little g and Christian with a capital one speaks volumes.

I love you Dingo, but WHAT?

The OP is just using proper English. Adjectives/nouns derived from proper nouns retain their capitalization. “Christian” is capitalized because it’s derived from the name “Christ”. Why would you capitalize “gay”? It’s just a simple adjective. If the word was derived from some dude named “Gay”, then it would be capitalized. Just as it’s “Canadian whiskey” instead of “canadian whiskey” and “Achilles’ heel” instead of “achille’s heel” and so on.

I’m sorry to intrude with grammar rules, but I just don’t think value judgments should be inferred based on somebody using proper grammar.

  • jen1

This is a singing competition. Adam should be judged on his singing ability and that alone.
In 2004, Bill O’Reilly settled a sexual harassment case. How would he like it if every time he was to appear at a function or on tv, his past was brought up. In an article from The Washington Post he stated: “Please do not believe everything you hear and read,” he said on “The O’Reilly Factor.” I believe that says enough about our Mr. O;Reilly and he should practice what he says.

  • karenw

Having seen a couple of segments from his show O’Reilly seems like an utter knob (as we say in the UK)

  • Meg23

With all the hoopla over Adam’s sexuality and Kris’ faith, I’m scared that whoever is victorious tomorrow will have a cloud over their win. If Adam wins, it could turn into “the gay triumph over middle-America prejudice.” If Kris wins, it could turn into “he only won because middle-America wouldn’t let a gay man win” or “he only won because he’s a Christian.” Talent has the potential to be forgotten in all of this chaos.
Also, I think the issue of voting based on faith has been blown out of proportion. I’m a Christian, fairly conservative and I go to church in suburban Georgia….and I have not heard one word about American Idol at church. Not all churches are taking it upon themselves to tell people who to vote for. While I haven’t been an Adam fan, I also haven’t been a Danny fan…they’re just not my style. Sadly, my favorite didn’t make it to the finals (still miss Anoop!)…so I’m going for my second favorite, Kris.
Frankly, the assumption that people will vote for Kris just because they share his faith is no different that assuming that gay people will vote for Adam just because they share the same sexual orientation.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to tonight! It should be a great show!

  • Chipmunk

wait, so krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ own church and his friends who belong to that church are not allowed to promote his Idol run??

Of course they are allowed to, just like I’m allowed to say that its the religious angle they are pushing and comment on it. If Danny Gokey could go through the wringer for doing the exact same thing, and have such invasive interest in his church activities etc, so can kris Allen! its fair game and open for interpretation

I wonder about that, too. Cynical me says it’s all part of the script TBTB seem to have been working from since the beginning to make this season a culture war thing. If it was supposed to be Adam vs. Danny, well Adam vs. Kris will work, too. Lucky PTB that it turned out like that. Oh, wait, they sort of loaded the deck towards that end with their “freaks and geeks” casting, audition pimpage and WTF judging. If this really is exploitation of our gut wrenching cultural divides for buzz and ratings then this goes beyond the usual manipulation. It would be the most vile thing Idol has ever done and I resent it. YMMV

I’m not a big O’Reilly fan but Bill clearly only had this segiment on because well a lot of people are talking about exactly what his guest stated. It’s celeberity news. O’Reilly usually has a small few minutes on his show about celeberities.

What’s the big deal, pissed off at O’Reilly or his guest?

Bill only tried to tell his AUDIENCE what’s all the buz in the news with AI because well it is a feaking buz! He could careless about it but he had it on because he is probably hearing and reading about it too.

Go over all the post during this season alone on this blog, and notice how many times the word CHRISTIAN and GAY was typed. I blame Bill on his guest who did a poor job at explaining what is going on with IDOL.

    That’s all folks.

  • terfra

Ok, show me on the tv show WHEN he brought up his church. You can’t, because he didn’t.
He sang on the show, thats it! He has not brought up the topic at all, just as Kris has not.
NONE of the idols have brought ANY of this stuff up!
    That is my point!
And big deal he stopped at his church on his homecoming, AMONG many other places.

Sorry, but the gay word does not get on the same level as CHRIST. Just like the word straight does not.

  • http://www.myspace.com/celticfae1974 Skimble7

Funny how Kris skirted the issue on his local Fox affiliate during homecoming (said he’s gonna do pop rock not Christian and gave a very vague response to his faith affecting his Idol experience). Yesterday he came right out and said in the press conference…it’s not about religion. So for Bill to pull this crap a few hours after that conference :::flips O’Reilly the bird:::

I won’t even watch this thing cuz it would give more of my time to Bill than he deserves. I posted this elsewhere…The Divine has bigger fish to fry than what we’re watching on TV…well unless it was a documentary on how to be horrible to your fellow human. I was flabbergasted when I heard that preachers were telling congregations who to vote for on Idol…can we say worshipping false gods and graven images? How about you tell your parishioners to go spend some time at the soup kitchen or take in a homeless street punk?

Yes, I believe in a Higher Power and I try to live right. I also park my tush in front of the tube every Tuesday and Wednesday night for the past 2.5 months. I like both of these guys as artists and I wish them both peace & joy tonight along with long and successful careers.

Bill, are YOU gay – me thinks he doth protest too much!!!! Embrace it Bill and free yourself, be who you are and be happy about it. I know what the bible says but i also think that if you are a nice person, a giving person then you are also a godly person, one that I would let my kids interact with and that is Adam.

  • iluvai

I hope Bill O’Reilly watches the press interview with Adam and Kris. Then I hope Bill realizes what a jerk he is and makes an apology. Best of luck to Adam and Kris.

  • 77amy77

This is what Kris had to say about it in the press interview: “For me, I hope that having the Christian vote doesn’t help with anything. I hope it has to do with your talent and the performance that you give and the package that you have. It’s not about religion and all that kind of stuff.”

I’m an atheist and a very strong supporter of gay rights, but I’ll be voting for Kris because his is the record I’ll buy. I also love that he’s never once used his religion to gain votes, and it clearly doesn’t influence who he makes friends with. However, if Adam wins I think he is every bit as deserving a winner and has done fantastic things for the show this season.

I really hope this final comes down to performances and that the guys enjoy it. And that the religion / sexuality card isn’t played after the results on Wednesday, whichever way it turns out. Good luck to both Adam and Kris.

Since we’re talking about Fox, whose motto is fair and balanced:

Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a pig of the greatest magnitude.

If you read further than the Smoking Gun you’d find that the suit went both ways and it was never determined that he did sexually harrass her. More importantly, read the last paragraph of this excerpt:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A7578-2004Oct28.html

O’Reilly told viewers, in language cleared by the lawyers, that there was “no wrongdoing in the case whatsoever by anyone” — and appeared to dispute, without specifically doing so, some of the lurid details of what Mackris alleged were phone-sex conversations between them. “Please do not believe everything you hear and read,” he said on “The O’Reilly Factor.”

The top-rated cable news host has said he was humiliated by the suit, which charged that he spoke to Mackris about sexual fantasies, masturbation and vibrators while sometimes seeming to pleasure himself. But for O’Reilly to strike a settlement without an expression of regret, which is often demanded in litigation against high-profile figures, is a partial victory that spares him further embarrassment.

Morelli did not respond to requests for comment last night.

  • holeighannie

I don’t understand why Bill is the subject of the hate…he didn’t write the article, his guest did. All Bill did was ask him clarifying questions. Whether it was a waste of time is your choice to make but he certainly didn’t put down Adam or anything. I wonder what the response would be if this were on CNN… (sorry for the mini-political rant)

And frankly, Adam’s a grown man who is obviously comfortable with who he is, not the victim a lot of people (internet-wide, not MJ’s) are making him out to be. He’s going to be just fine.

  • http://inkdbylilyanna.com carolina

Now I’m getting some hate on for Perez Hilton and Newsweek and LA Times and NY Post and …….

That was an annoying segment. I also thought the guest took Simon’s statement about voting for Adam out of context. I thought Simon was saying not to assume Adam would sail through to the next round, and that people should vote for Adam because he deserves to be there because of his talent. I thought that statement was aimed at fans of Adams (not all of America). Anyway I’m rooting for Kris and Adam tonight. Can’t wait!

  • rockvixen

Oreilly is such a tool. Oreilly’s show is all about telling you what or how to think. Hopefully people other than who watch Oreilly see past the religious and sexuality connotations perpetuated by the media and vote on talent and singing. Adam FTW.

Are we even sure Adam is gay though? I’m not aware of him ever confirming it.

Hikes Adam fans, looks like the bash is on. I know that Adam deserves the win and we need to be sure we vote for four hours each as Kris has the whole state of Arkansas and alot of anti-gays voting against him. Power voting is the only chance he has and he has worked very hard to get where he is. Vote your little fingers off guys so we don’t get the same results as last year with 30+ million votes separating them and Adam losing. He needs your help!!! He’s a good guy and deserves it.

I hope Adam’s fans are seeing this. It is cruel and off target. Why can’t people vote on merit of singing. Come on Adam fans, I think he has been sank like a tank and all we can do is help him out. He doesn’t deserve to lose because of his sexual orientation. His talent tells the story. We need to vote on talent not on what you’ve read in some magazines and newspapers. Make it a fair competition. That is what Adam and Kris would want. I will power vote for four hours for Adam but because of his music and nothing else.

    This. So. Much.

The first place I heard about Danny’s church and saw Adam’s Burning Man photos was here at MJ’s. When exactly did AI or the contestants repeatedly bring up either? Speaking of Bill O’Reilly, what evidence is there that any AI voting bloc gets its marching orders from him?

I don’t hear anybody discussing an AI culture war in real life, either. By real life, I mean people who derive their opinions about American Idol from the show and rarely if ever visit online sites.

Likewise, I don’t see any evidence that the AI crew has started or fed a culture war this season. Nobody — and I mean NOBODY — promoted the Adam/Danny finale more frequently or more forcefully than Paula Abdul, a Jew who is nothing if not gay-friendly.

I started out beyond excited about Adam’s talent and potential, as you can read here on my blog — and may have noticed in my numerous rah-rah-Adam comments at MJ’s. He might still be the best thing to happen to American Idol evah, but I haven’t seen any evidence since Ring of Fire, which is still my all-time favorite AI performance. Since RoF, every one of Adam’s song selections and arrangements seem overly calculated and measured out in careful doses. I understand why Adam responded to the negative response that way, but I don’t like it — at all.

Adam’s strategy of inoffensive safety made me appreciate the raw talent and courage of Jason Castro all the more. Jason was the first contestant to play an instrument on the show and then accompanied himself on the ukulele one week after teaching himself how to play. He performed Jeff Buckley and Bob Marley — the latter despite knowing that he would be slaughtered for it.

I have been neither a fan nor a hater of Danny Gokey — although I acknowledge that he has talent and a distinctive voice — but it seemed to me like Adam’s selection of Aerosmith’s Cryin’ one week after Scream On was a personal gotcha directed at Danny. I could understand why Danny might take it that way. It was showy in more ways than oversinging — it revealed a lack of class.

So here I am without a horse in this race — looking back at one ugly mess of a season.

I cannot believe that Ramin Setoodeh did this bit on that horrific show.

And that they showed those pictures but cut off the mouths! I f**king hate that about right-winged shows. It’s so two faced. They show the pictures and basically say–Adam is a weird homo–but they cut off the bottoms of the pictures so they can deny that they broadcast a picture of a same-sex kiss because the mouths are cut off. Man! It’s all about gossip and innuendo and passing judgment and being superior.

BTW–notice that the 4-minute segment really had just about nothing to do with the performance skills of the contestants.

I don’t think anybody cares what O’Reilly and his guest have to say about the subject. Like Kris and Adam said, its a SINGING contest and the vast majority of people will vote according to what style they like. Fox Cable News loves to pit people against each other, they have an “us” against “them” phobia. Only a very tiny percentage will cast their vote on so called “cultural” issues. Also, cable news has WAY too much time to fill. Its mostly hogwash. I loved the interview with Kris and Adam. Both showed themselves to be true gentlemen. Kris is not interested in exploiting his faith for votes, a stand up guy who has won my respect. Nevertheless, Adam won me over when he sang Mad World and I’ve been a huge fan of his ever since. WHATEVER YOUR CHOICE, VOTE ON TUESDAY!!!

Excuse me? How about WLL – If that is not risky choice for AI audience – i totally have no idea. He is basically singing about SEX and tackling a very huge song whom many think untouchable. Besides being in the music business not only involves artistry and guts but also good business sense. You would not have artistry if nobody interested to see you perform.

I have been neither a fan nor a hater of Danny Gokey à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ although I acknowledge that he has talent and a distinctive voice à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ but it seemed to me like Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s selection of Aerosmithà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Cryinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ one week after Scream On was a personal gotcha directed at Danny. Lack of class?? Besides he initially requested Come Home but decided against it. Reason unknown although it might have been due to Kris’ judges pick. He is familiar with Crying being a big fan of Aerosmith. It might have been clearance issue as well. He did not have to choose Aerosmith to ‘gotcha’ Danny since Danny seems to be able to embarrass himself. Whatever the reason – I am glad that these two – Kradam – are the top 2. Their interview had shown that they have all the class they need unlike some other contestants who had shown major disrespect to not just their own colleague but also a big portion of the AI followers.

I don’t believe for a minute that they cut off the mouths so they can deny they broadcast a picture of a same-sex kiss. A huge stretch.

Fox has executives and lawyers that draw the line when it comes to where they go and where they don’t go and it’s all based on the wishes of Rupert Murdoch. They know their viewing audience and determine where and when to draw the line to uphold their personal standards of broadcasting.

If it was MSNBC I’d say, yep, they did it on purpose but it would have been just the opposite.

They’d zoom in on Adams tonsils.

I agree with “77amy77″, when they said Kris hasn’t used his religion to get votes. His religion is bring brought up by the media. What I appreciate about these final 2. Kris is humble and Adam gives credit or thanks the people who helped him like the band. EIther one of them deserve to win, my votes go to Kris, simply because I love his voice and he’s talented.

Chipmunk , you are entitled to interpret anyone’s actions of you seem fit

but are you basing your opinion in the name of “fairness” (since Danny was bashed, I too must bash Kris) ?

for the record, Kris has never discussed his religion, on TV or in the press. neither has his family. Kris’ main fan website (run by friends) have made a point to also leave religion out of this….while selecting a nickname for the finale, they passed on “krusade” bc it had a negative connotation to it. they wanted to keep religion out of this, and said Kris wouldn’t feel comfortable w. such a promotion (this is what they wrote, im not interpeting their actions)

that’s the diff btw Kris and Danny…self awareness

no, I believe the same things happening with kris’s church canvassing votes from their congregation for one of their one is no worse than what Gokey got from Pruitt and his church, so if a post like Coco calls it to question, then i can agree with him/her on that premise…simple…Its the jesus vote in play

I’m not interested in anything related to kris Allen, was just making a passing comment..On to the finale…….

We’ve all had countless discussions about the “Christian vote”, how middle-America “hates” Adam, and about the differences in treatment toward Adam because he may or may not be gay. There’s nothing wrong with that, but why is O’Reilly an insensitive prick for talking about it on HIS show? All of us are guilty of the same thing…not to mention he never said anything about how Adam shouldn’t win for any reason, he simply opened a dialogue about it.

All this does is illustrate how much better off the world would be if people stopped caring where other peoples genitalia went.

  • wand3rful

kris allowing his OWN church to promote his idol run is not the same thing as kris wanting the entire freaking Christian world to vote for him bc of his religious background. the whole freaking town is behind him….that means his church, college, even his favorite restaurant. they support him bc they know him, and that’s why he is “allowing” it to happen.

an hypothetical example of him being a hypocrite would be if he allowed his family to appear on a national Christian program advertising and discussing his faith (cough gokey cough)

kate09….excellent post on page 3 — thank you!! well said.

I think BillO the Clown is a closet gay to make such a big deal of this. He makes me sick.

I don’t like O’Reilly at all, but I didn’t see anything wrong with him having this Newsweek guy on to discuss a timely, topical article that appeared in the magazine. Maybe O’Reilly had ulterior motives and maybe it served some agenda of his to feature this article, but it is still a valid topic of discussion.

Of course there are cultural aspects to this competition, and the religious/gay angle is particularly out front this year. Kris is quiet about his faith but Gokey isn’t, and isn’t Gokey’s pastor telling people to vote for Kris now? So yeah, it’s an issue, and one can’t deny that there are many Christians who think that homosexuality is a sin and would vote against it. And so if Gokey’s fans vote for Kris then yes, they could secure him the Idol title based on religion as much as talent.

The only way this show would be fair is if voting was limited to about 10 votes per phone number. Because only the most young or the most fervent will sit and vote for 2-4 hours and that’s going to favor some contestants more than others. Oh but wait, then Ryan couldn’t say “we had eleventy thousand million votes last night.” LOL

One thing I noticed though, is how carefully O’Reilly asked the questions so that he could not be accused of fomenting a culture war. Funny, Elizabeth Hasselback was the same kind of careful on the View yesterday talking about it. They must have gotten the same talking points to handle it with kid gloves.
