As Michael Slezak tweeted earlier today, part of his recent interview with Adam Lambert was featured on the O’Reilly Factor tonight.

But if you were worried O’Reilly would use it to bash Adam, well, no.

O’Reilly uses the EW interview rather clumsily to make a point about gay marriage, and left-wing zealots, but at least he’s finally giving the kissing photos a rest.

O’Reilly cites Adam as a “gay American” who isn’t a “zealot”–due to Adam’s nonchalant response (whatever!) to Slezak’s questions about the O’Reilly segment that introduced the photos of Adam kissing boys to a wider audience.

I wonder if Adam saw this recent segment…

Not spared an attack is Ann Powers of the LA Times, who O’Reilly claims violated his civil rights when she wrote that O’Reilly “tried to denigrate Mr. Lambert” in one of her columns.

He asked the LA Times to correct the record. Of course, since Powers was just expressing her opinion, there was no record to correct.

Poor O’Reilly needs a high school civics class do-over. He seems to have no understanding of the concepts “libel” or “civil rights.”

  • undercooked

Rolling Stone cover, O’Reilly defending him and even calling him a gay American (nice patriotic touch there) instead of the “maybe gay guy”. I say the planets are lining up nicely for Adam!

  • Victoria

    Not a headline I expected to see. :blink_tb: :laugh_tb:

But okay, cool. I didn’t see anything wrong with this segment at all.

As for him not mentioning the “embarassed” part, I think that’s fine. I don’t think he was embarassed by the pictures. They may have been censored to avoid offended some viewers, or whatever else. Good for him for not keeping this thing going. I have a feeling this will be the last segment on Adam at least for awhile.

  • unique28v

Oh please. O’Reilly’s tune would be a lot different if Adam would have won….. LOL

Why did he clip Adam’s idolatry interview to just that part when he said whatever? Why didn’t O’Reilly dispute it when Adam and Michael Slezak said that O’Reilly was the one embarassed about the pictures and censored them?? Because its true. They were correct.

This whole segment was a waste. LOL But hey, its more free press for Adam so its all good in a way… I think…. lol

  • unique28v

I think the second segment O’Reilly did right before the finale was definitely more damaging than the one with the 2 blond women. I have a feeling Adam didn’t see that one, and O’Reilly didn’t cite that one in his segment tonight. I think that is the segment Ann Powers was talking about.

  • http://randomizeme.wordpress.com arca

Thanks mj. Interesting take by Bill O’Reilly. Maybe he will have Adam on someday since he considers him as a non-zealot :-)

  • brin

I feel like I feel down a rabbit hole. This is about the funniest turn around I have seen. Way to jump on the Lambert express Bill.

Also, i noticed that good ole Bill missed a few key quotes. Guess he couldn’t admit to the embarrassment or the censorship.

  • unique28v

Guess he couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t admit to the embarrassment or the censorship.

Of course not. Then he would have to admit that he himself is a zealot. :)

  • GeminiDolly

    yay, another gay adam thread.

  • KrisAllen1

I cant stand this guy.He shouldnt talk about adam at all.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

OMG, I love how Bill O’Reilly attributes Adam not taking a shot at him (leaving out the embarrassed comments, lol) to the fact that Bill’s been “fair” on the gay marriage issue. Did he just “libel” Adam? Adam never said that.

    LMAO.

  • skylight1219

I’m curious of people actually saw the 3 segments BOR did about Adam? I did, and he did not in any of them bash Adam. Leave it to the LA Times to make something out of nothing. They too, are becoming a rag just like the NYT.

I don’t always agree with Bill, but, having seen the segments, I can assure that not once did he put Adam down. He actually defended him. Sounds like an O’Reillygate going on.

  • snuffles

Wow, Adam is like a little toy ball being batted around by the media for their own amusement, isn’t he? I doubt any of them actually CARE what Adam has to say or feel about the situation at all as long as they get their hits, sales and ratings points.

  • undercooked

    yay, another gay adam thread.

Look on the bright side, by the time the Rolling Stone cover comes out, everyone will be so tired of the gay issue, that they will skip that part of the article and go straight to the music stuff.

  • jlurksacto

Bill can dish it but gets huffy when he is called out.

  • hwc

Hmmm. I’m guessing that the night Bill O’Reilly has Adam on as a guest for a special one-hour interview will get really good ratings — for both Bill O’Reilly and Adam!

  • linsav

    yay, another gay adam thread.

I’m with you. Looking forward like Adam. Are we there yet?

  • cwg509

didn’t see that coming, but, hey, whatever, let’s get to the music please?

  • ppwars

    DAMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm…..

…we just got rid of goddam Bush and Cheney and O’Reilly conjures up a far-left fascist threat!!!

  • GeminiDolly

didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see that coming, but, hey, whatever, letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s get to the music please?

Music? In an Adam thread? What is this music you speak of?

  • AC

that was just the weirdest way to interweave that clip into his “talking point”. I’m sorry, but what does that even have to do with gay marriage? sigh, whatever.

  • weareallinnocent

Wow, Adam is like a little toy ball being batted around by the media for their own amusement, isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t he? I doubt any of them actually CARE what Adam has to say or feel about the situation at all as long as they get their hits, sales and ratings points.

Yeah, that. I was hoping there’d be some limit to who would grab Adam’s coattails. I suppose with this one Adam really does get the last laugh. Would anyone anywhere ever have predicted that BOR would be riding the tails of a gay guy? Heh. (pun intended, of course)

    Music, please (and thank you!)

  • jlc

    yay, another gay adam thread

    :surrender_tb:

…and O’Reilly is blowhard who loves the sound of his own voice.

  • LaurelG

When will Adam be appearing on Bill O’s show to sing Mad World? Because it seems like it would be kinda appropriate …

  • linsav

I vote for a new topic: Adam Lambert actually is a singer appreciation thread.

  • JustWatching

I love Adam and I like O’Reilly, too. I find them both entertaining.

  • JenG

That was the most ridiculous news segment I’ve ever seen. WTH?

I vote for a new topic: Adam Lambert actually is a singer appreciation thread.

    Wait? Adam can sing?

  • kate09

Someone suggested (in another thread I believe) that – assuming Adam comes out & says he is gay in Rolling Stone – they would like an in depth interview w/Adam & Kris conducted by a serious journalist. I would like to see that as well. The whole ‘culture clash’ finale between Adam & Danny that was talked about & hoped for by Idol’s producers didn’t happen. Instead, we got a Kradam finale that was IMO the best Idol finale ever – best top two ever. Kris has nothing but wonderful things to say about Adam & has said he could go on & on about him, & I wish he had that chance. Same goes for Adam. They clearly respect each other & have stated that they hope their friendship can serve as an example to others. I want them to sit down together & go into more detail.

    Kradam interviews are the best.

  • astolat

When will Adam be appearing on Bill Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s show to sing Mad World? Because it seems like it would be kinda appropriate à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    ITA, LaurelG.

I mean, not that this isn’t deeply obnoxious in its own way, seeing how BOR is totally chopping up Adam’s comments to make himself seem reasonable and non-homophobic in the midst of his massively homophobic whingeing rant, but it’s still kind of mind-boggling.

  • linsav

You know, maybe the BOR segment will cool the medial hype down somewhat, especially since he fueled it so much just before the finals. One can only hope…

  • TKat

I find it laughable that Bill O could just clip out that part and act like Adam somehow said that Bill O was fair.

I vote for a new topic: Adam Lambert actually is a singer appreciation thread.

    :clap_tb:

  • galaxygrrl

Poor Adam, he really does not want to be a political icon, he just wanted to sing and dress up and buy a house.

Well, I do think all this press does help him in the long run become a rock star, so I guess it’s good.

  • hollygo9

maybe the BOR segment will cool the medial hype down somewhat

BOR will say anything for ratings.

  • cwg509

    Imaginary Kris text to Adam:

Hey man, I heard you got a shout out on O’Reilly. Way to go, he’s the man! I mean, I don’t watch that guy myself, I’ve just heard that Christians really dig him.

Adam: Yeah, whatever, what’s going on with you?

Kris: Katy and I are hanging out here at Disney, talking with some people dressed up as animals, going on some rides, eating alligator on a stick- oh wait that was the Arkansas State Fair, this is kind of the same, but less people… What are you up to?

Adam: Well, I caught a show with all my old gay/lesbian/bi buds, then I probably hit up The Box for the drag show, but I don’t really remember much. Oh yeah, I got a pedicure and walked barefoot down a NYC street! Hey, got to live dangerously!

Kris: OK, see you for tour rehearsals!

  • http://emmarude65embarqmail.com carroll

O’Reilly must have figured out which side his bread is buttered……
AI is the cash cow of Fox. O’Reilly? Where does he rank on Fox?
The O’man better watch his P’s & Q’s or he could find himself elsewhere. Like the unemployment line?

maybe the BOR segment will cool the medial hype down somewhat

True but what he does is picked up by the rest of the media and they seem to take a lot of their cues from his show. He was one of the ones fanning the gay backlash.

  • baxter

I can’t believe I just WILLINGLY watched a 3 min segment of the Billo show. Just that short amount of time I felt my blood pressure rising. I cannot stand that man.

BTW….nice job Billo for that cut and paste job you did on the EW interview. Sad fact is people that watch this shit show will buy what Billo is trying to sell.

  • hypertwink

I think we should all prepare for the apocalypse. Isn’t that one of the signs – asshole bigot defends the marginalized? LOL

  • iluvai

I really like Bill O’Reilly, but I was ready to flush him down the toilet with the whole “Adam kisses guys” segment. However, I love Adam…. If I have to choose between the two, I love Adam hands down.

  • colette

oh, and by the way! ADAM CAME OUT LAST NIGHT, IN PUBLIC

he came out, that is, as a theater rat.

Adam has been afraid to own up to the controversial truth: he adores musical theater, he loves being in theatrical shows, he’ll probably be in them again, and he went to see a revival of “Hair” on Broadway and hooted and hollered.

    here’s the proof:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdkoeUG1nBs

He’s going to get savaged for this, I’m sure. Rolling Stone will put him on the rack. Queen will rescind their invitation for him to join the group.

But Adam, good for you! You outed yourself, and those of us who love Broadway musicals also are now free to be ourselves. You are a great role model!

  • GlamGirlLee

OMFG, is this guy(BOR) for real? I must really live in a bubble. Never seen his show before. But then, I don’t watch much TV. My TV got a lot of usage all of a sudden when Adam tried out for AI.

  • bottleblonde

The way I see it is BOR did his gay bashing thing in time to hurt Adam in the competition and now he is just going to go all the way awful and ride Adam’s popularity. Just like MJ is getting hits from everyone and anyone looking for Adam news, Fox isn’t dumb and they will use Adam in any way they can. Adam and his fans are fortunate he is a very smart young man and I think saw this coming. Let’s just let him handle it.

I’ve always had a love-hate fan relationship with Madonna. While I love her music, her personality has at times driven me crazy. Adam doesn’t seem to be afraid of poking the tiger as she has and would be lucky to have her longevity.

    Go Adam,

    BB

  • iluvai

edit: would you like to be banned?

  • GlamGirlLee

I gues all this press grasping his coattail Ithat awesome duster!) proves that he is just so dang interesting…

  • suebrody

I still can’t believe TPTB let Billo have not one, not two, but THREE segments about one of their cash cows, i.e., an Idol. But as usual, Billo didn’t get it, so it turned out all right. I would give anything for Adam to go on The O’Reilly Factor and stomp him with his 10 inch boots.

So, what exactly IS American Idol about again? Wait, it’s not a show that deals with political and social issues? I guess I got it mixed up with Meet the Press.

  • nothingtoadd

Bill O’Reilly makes no sense whatsoever. He’s criticizing people for criticizing him being against civil rights for gays and foreigners. So isn’t he doing to the people who oppose to his worldview exactly what he’s accusing THEM of doing? They have the right to express their opinions too.

  • Genevieve

“Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going to get savaged for this, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure. Rolling Stone will put him on the rack. Queen will rescind their invitation for him to join the group.”

    Uhmmm… Freddie Mercury/Barcelona :wink_ee:

Why wouldn’t BOR pull back now that a “gay” person winning a Fox broadcasted show is no longer a threat and Adam is bringing much publicity to AI? It is all business and Adam would be smart to turn it on them and take full advantage of whatever he can get out of them as well.

  • musicisthelife

Seriously…give Oreilly a break. He was just reporting things about Adam that were TRUE. He wasn’t bashing Adam. And he was totally fair to Adam in this segment. There’s nothing to be ticked about.

  • iluvai

Sorry cwg509: I am losing it. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know whether I like black or white, or if I like the city or the suburbs, or if my nails should be painted black or pink or purple, if I should become Jewish, if I should move to CA, or if I should take voice lessons (which will do nothing for me), if I should buy cool rings and make my hair kinda dark with blue streaks, maybe I should kiss Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ass (that would be cool), maybe I should throw out the computer, never learn how to twitter, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve always liked boots (Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s are cool), so a shoe shopping spree must be in order. Thanks for being nice. Someone should flush me down the toilet and put me out of my misery.

ROFL! I am pretty much in the same situation here myself. I have spent so much time on the computer reading all things Adam that my house will be declared a disaster zone any second.

  • lifeisfun

I think Bill O was just trying to prove that he’s not homophobic and that Adam didnt mind his comments, however I don’t think the Adam clip made any sense in his segment at all.

MJ- I heard that Kris Allen is going to be on Hannity or was on it tonight! Thats what it said on his radio show last night!

  • Genevieve

    lifeisfun…

I know there was mention of Kris being on the Huckabee Show over the weekend since they are both from Arkansas. I don’t keep up with Hannity though.

  • kate09

Yeah I thought Huckabee might have him on…former AR governor & all. I think Huckabee’s show is only on the weekends. I know he doesn’t have one of FoxNews’ nightly spots.

  • http://krisallenonline.blogspot.com/ kizgold

yes Kris will be on Huckabee Saturday night at 8. Huckabee will back him up on bass to while Kris sings the Beatles tune Yesterday.

  • iluvai

linsav: Thanks for your comment. Dear God, I don’t know what is happening to me! It’s so much fun tho. My house is a disaster zone too. 4 months of constant googling for Adam will do that. I won’t allow playdates at this point. My house is that yucky…Media tour get over, please. Then I will have several weeks to get my act together before I see idols on tour in August. I luv Adam so much…. Sleep will take me away from all of this. Night!!!! Peace & Love.

  • Suzanne

Thx for putting this up, MJ. I couldn’t get through it though–that guy is such an idiot. Why do people listen to him?

  • Vanessa

Adam’s appearance on VH1′s Best Week Ever tonight is now on YouTube. He did a great job…really funny. Adam pokes fun at the whole gay speculation situation, he obviously isn’t taking himself, or the situation too seriously – so keep that in mind before we all get too upset.

check it out: Way to go Adam – Hilarious!

danny is up on idolatry if nobody knew

  • papercut

Why is Adam Lambert on every page of the internet today? He’s being mentioned everywhere! I swear, I woke up this morning and logged on to GOOGLE and there it is, ADAM LAMBERT on the entertainment section’s headline news. Then I checked my yahoo email and there he is again on the headline news. I checked AOL and ASK and even MSN, and he’s also on the front page of the entertainment pages. And now I check MJ and even the lunatic Bill O’reilly is talking about Adam. Is Adam officially taking over the world? He’s got the whole world talking about him.

  • KrisAllen1

Danny’s idolatry is up but i still have to wait for Kris’s? I want to slap sleazak even though he gave us the BEST adam interview.

  • lola

KrisAllen1 – You amuse me. I think Kris Idolatry interview will be up between 11- 12MN. This was about the same time when Adam’s interview showed up last Friday.

  • glamfan

this is making conservatives look bad and is total bs. how hypocritical Mr. Reilly. I think Adam would laugh at this and again say “whatever.”

  • bottleblonde

OMG! Adam on Best Week Ever is hilarious. I’m watching it over and over. Just perfect.

  • KrisAllen1

He’s making me sleep. This is why Adam and Kris should only do interviews.
With every question he has to make it a long answer. He would preach the
world if he could.I couldnt follow him.Did he mention sports and changing
the world with music? I didnt get it.

    I noticed a few things.
1.Danny mentioned his wife in three or four answers.
2.He looked pissed when he said that he wanted Kris to choose the song.
3.He clearly needs some PR help.
4.He wants to make a fushion album? Why have i heard Adam use that term

  • GeminiDolly

I did. I was a little uncomfortable though, its like I feel bad for him and just want to give him a hug. Clearly, he has still not come to grip with his wife’s passing. He also has trouble making a complete thought. His mind is racing with so many different things at once and its difficult to get him. Interesting how both Adam and Danny wanted to duet with Allison-shes a STAH! I think Danny just needs to relax and take a few breaths. He wants to accomplish so many things with the foundation and this movement he wants to make with his music. Just relax.

  • holeighannie

I didn’t watch the O’Reilly segment yet. But if he’s not hating on Adam, I don’t see the problem. Everybody always wants to see the worst in him, so even though he has never condemned Adam, just the fact that he brought him up is enough to have people hate him. The pictures being edited were weird, but not shocking given the medium, but that’s about it…he just asks questions…people who don’t watch Idol make judgments everyday so I don’t know why he’s not allowed to, on his own show. Which is a commentary show, not news. But that’s a whole different topic pertaining to people thinking the NEWS part of Fox is skewed, when in reality it is the commentary shows, not the actual news.

And, again, haven’t watched the segment, but civil rights only extend as far as impinging on others’ civil rights. As O’Reilly never persecuted Adam, saying that he tried to wasn’t fair. By the nature of “Fox News is for right wing wackos”, he always gets screwed, whether he deserves it or not.

  • Layla

My goodness is Bill O ¨’Reilly the poster boy for what is wrong with Fox “news”. He is just all kinds of a bombastic, ill-educated big mouthed fascist loony. He doesn ¨’t know the true meaning of civil rights and political ideology.

I cannot BELIEVE people watch him on a regular basis. He makes me want to toss my cookies.

It is assumed that O’Reilly is the big draw for FOX Cable News. Personally, I can’t stand him. It wasn’t necessary for the pictures to be shown.

I like Adam’s attitude. It will serve him well.

After the tour there will be a natural let down. Kris and Adam will be busy, but I wonder how the others will feel? Pertaining to Danny, this may be the time he comes to terms with his grief. I hope his church will help him, if he isn’t seeing a therapist.

It gets really tiring how the rabid right paints itself as victims of the liberal left; Bill’s segment was following an old pattern. He took a pass on bashing Adam in this segment soley to make himself look reasonable and fair. The producers of his show used Adam’s celebrity to drive traffic to their increasingly irrelevant show.

  • WestiesRule

O’Reilly is a knob. Let him chew on that word!

  • terfra

O’Reilly is independant politically, and a fair commentator, thats why he is popular.
There are hardly any of those left in the world. He is not far right or far left.
All the other stations are only giving one side, the left side.
Fox is the only one that gives balance on both sides.
For some reason because of that, the people that don’t like it say they are far right.
But most Americans also are in the middle.

    O’Reilly speaks bluntly and truthfully.
He does not put people down or talk hate.
He just speaks outrightly against injustice and tries to bring light on subjects of importance.
This is why some hate him though because he is honest and some people don’t like truth.
You’ll always get flak when you do that.

I can’t understand though, why there is a problem with this segment.
He didn’t say anything wrong at all.
People often misconstrue O’Reilly’s words and demonise him.
Just because he doesn’t believe in gay marriage does not make him a hater of homosexuals.
Gosh, there are gays that don’t believe marriage was made or intended for homosexual people either.
My opinion is that O’Reilly is one of the fairest commentators on the airways.

no. He is a pompous windbag who sounds like an ill-educated right wing nut when he speaks.

I do not understand what people get out of watching him. I just don’t.

  • TKat

linsav – thanks for the link to “Oh My Ra” – always nice to start the morning with some Adam music!

I can bet money that all three guys wanted to duet with Allison lol.

Alison said in her Idolatry interview that all three guys wanted to duet with her. Also, both she and Adam said they had no doubt that they wanted to duet together.

Regarding Bill O. — I consider this use of Adam’s fame and the strategic snippet of Adam’s comment just another example of how well Bill manipulates information and sometimes his audience. I can’t actually watch him but do consider this an entertainment show more like John Stewart and Stephen Colbert. All three have political influence but are not news shows.

But only Bill O. holds the record for most “Worst Person in the World” awards!

  • JB1

You can call Bill many things, but based on his ratings, irrelevant wouldn’t be one of them.

  • LaurelG

    This. And what Kath77 said.

  • JazzRocks

Fox does have the highest ratings of the cable news networks, and BillO is the highest on Fox. All that tells me is that the majority of Americans like their news slanted right. Fox is the most unFair & unBalanced network of them all. I like Huckabee all right, but I don’t care for his show and won’t watch it even when Kris is on. Now maybe if it were Adam……….

  • impqueen

So, it’s perfectly okay for O’Reilly to out Adam Lambert on his show, and then argue that “the left” shouldn’t get to voice their opinions about his clearly stated views? Sounds like O’Reilly has a very narrow view of the first amendment – and of nearly everything else.

I feel certain that if I were to host a show in which I hauled out the tape recorded phone calls of Bill sexually harassing a subordinate and telling her that if she was cooperative, he would see that she was successful – and if not, that she’d be essentially blacklisted (source: depositions, The Smoking Gun), I’d be told to “leave Bill alone” and that the accusations were “unproven” and “not relevant” to his job as a commentator.

But Adam’s sexuality is relevant to his music career… how, exactly? And last I heard, Adam has never been accused of hurting anyone.

The irony here is very likely lost on O’Reilly fans.

Adam responded the only way he could – the people who get him, get him. The people who don’t are never gonna, so why get all upset about them? As Adam put it, “let ‘em go buy the other guy’s record.” (cough).

  • weareallinnocent

IMO, ratings do not equal relevance. If they did, BOR would have no need to splice Adam Lambert clips awkwardly into a piece in which they have no place (ahem, relevance.) :-)

  • Layla

You can call Bill many things, but based on his ratings, irrelevant wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be one of them.

No…it just means that a lot of people like their news dumbed down and fed to them.

He certainly has a right to his opinions by why get so upset when people have opinons of his opinions…typical narrow-minded perspective…of certain types.

“Noà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦it just means that a lot of people like their news dumbed down and fed to them.”

Well first of all, its not a NEWS show, its an OPINION show, much like Keith Olbermann or Anderson Cooper or Sean Hannity. Secondly, this always strikes me as amusing, people like their news “dumbed down.” Rest assured there are plenty of us who aren’t looking for anything dumbed down, but rather an interesting take that perhaps you don’t get from Anderson Cooper, Katie Couric, Chris “Thrill up my leg” Matthews, Women of the View, Charlie Gibson, etc. I don’t agree with everything Bill says, but if you watched the show you would also know that he is not some far right loon, in fact he has many views that skew left… but at least he’s interesting.

Dumbed down wouldn’t drive ratings for long. People must feel they are getting something there that they aren’t getting elsewhere.

  • skylight1219

Personally, I like my news fair and balanced as I’m not the type to be spoon fed anything by the main stream media. Most think Fox News is slanted right, but, they aren’t. They maintain their fair and balanced forum and that is why they are the most successful of all the cable news outlets.

edit: don’t question posters motives or put word in their mouths

BOR has never claimed to be anything but an independent, and isn’t dumb either. Yes, he paid off for a certain lady who claimed some outrageous things, but that isn’t unusual. It doesn’t equate guilt either. A lot of companies do this to avoid the high cost and time of court trials, which may far exceed the amount of money being sought.

  • Tess

Well first of all, its not a NEWS show, its an OPINION show

Guess I’m late to the party. If I’ve ever had the misfortune to have had to listen to BOR I have always thought of it as the ultimate satirical comedy show. Every word out of the man’s mouth just makes me laugh. If someone were to say that the sky is blue and BOR disagreed with this person he would jabber on for 45 minutes until he had convinced the idiots listening to his program that the sky was indeed yellow. I always think of BOR as the Archie Bunker of the Cable Opinion Shows.

  • downeast

If BOR had done a lovefest segment on his show, then I suspect that Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s supporters would just love him.

Nope. It would just mean Bill got it right. For once. Hey, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

There is nothing fair or balanced or journalistic about Bill O’Reilly. Nor is there about Olbermann. They’re commentators, and their appeal is that they work extremely hard to inflame the people who have political leanings similar to theirs.

They have zero journalistic principles or integrity, because they’re not journalists, they’re entertainers. It’s really important that viewers remember to recognize the difference between FACTS and OPINIONS.

I wish this country would remember what journalism used to be like. Woodward & Bernstein, where are thou?

  • lurksalot

BOR has been the top news related program in the country for the past 100+ months and is consistently on Nielsen’s top programs. Check it out.

  • lurksalot

Oh, and as far as civics, he has a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard. So I think he gets it.

He’s a master manipulator of people who want to get worked up from their sofas and arm chairs.

Oh, and as far as civics, he has a Masterà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s in Public Administration from Harvard. So I think he gets it.

What does that prove? That he is fair-minded? Please. I know lots of idiots with BAs and PHDs.

There’s no such thing as a “right” to NOT
    be called a name?

The “closest” right is not to be ‘named”
    something grossly untrue, maliciously,
where it leads to a real loss. (Liable and
    slander).

Ah, it seems Bill-0 understand that. But
just doesn’t understand what liable is…

    …what “damage” has Bill-0 suffered?

And in a typical way he offers no “answer”
he seem to be saying “some select which
freedoms” and then he himself picks them.

    The Bill-O Standard of Hypocrisy.

  • adamisthemanfan

This guy is such a fucking douche! His entire segment is like “oh this person said this about me” like a little kid telling his mom some other kid picked on him…ridiculous. No one is violating his rights they just have different opinions on certain issues than he does and my opinion is the he is a BIGOT and a Racist..and why did he bash Charlize Theron? She didn’t say anything about ppl who don’t support gay marriage all being homophobic. He’s totally biased and he’s one of the more pathetic ppl using Adam to get attention and he knows it, we know it and he knows that we know it which is why he didn’t bash on him as much THIS time.

  • holeighannie

“But Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sexuality is relevant to his music careerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ how, exactly?”

Adam’s sexuality isn’t important to his music and so far I think he’s done great at ignoring the buzz about it. But now he’s coming out on the cover of Rolling Stone? He just made it important by drawing attention to it. So he’s going to get more attention from the “crazy right wing media” for it.

ETA: So I finally watched the whole clip…all of this, over that? The Adam part of the segment was about 45 seconds long and 30 of it was him showing respect for Adam for the way he dealt with the whole situation to begin with. That last blurb about Ann Powers wasn’t even his main point, it was a secondary example after he was called a racist for his views on border control. And fundamentally, he’s right. He’s just trying to show the hypocrisy and irony of preaching acceptance and tolerance while calling the opposite side names and imparting negative belief systems on them over one differing opinion. That was his main point but because he took a side step into Lambert territory he gets demonized. I’d expect people to be happy with the way he regarded Adam, not pick apart the little things for a negative spin.

  • Stephen Garcia

The people who think Fox is Fair and Balanced
are such a joy to be as “Fair” and “Balanced”
    are generally exclusive terms.

Look at what the words mean, (I know this is
not a very popular activity in this Orwellian day)

    FAIR – honest; free from favoritism or self-interest or bias or deception; conforming with established standards or rules; “a fair referee”; “fair deal”;
    also, not excessive or extreme; “a fairish income”; “reasonable prices;

    Now let’s investigate Balanced.

    equality of distribution; a counterweight; proportion: harmonious arrangement or relation of parts or elements within a whole (as in a design);

…to be FAIR we must be honest.
…to be BALANCED we must have a counterweight.

So that would mean on a topic of say the Jewish
“Day of Remembrance” (about Nazi Germany) we
must need to ‘counterbalance’ that with a Christian
    holiday…

…a holocaust denier, Ahmadinejad, or a Klan rally?

But to do so would be ‘dishonest’.

Fox News (especially the commentary) is vastly
dishonest (especially in it’s editing) thus unfair.

Likewise, it is RIGHTLY imbalanced. Though I
believe they tend to misuse the imbalance to
bring on the Christians holiday observers on a
    Jewish day (for example).

    # average: lacking exceptional quality or ability; “a novel of average merit”; “only a fair performance of the sonata”; “in fair health”; “the caliber of the students has gone from mediocre to above average”; “the performance was middling at best”

  • lola

BOR is a right wing commentator. So if you are far right or leaning to the right, you would love him. He is popular alright but he made himself popular by stirring controversy which most of the viewers love. Yes, a lot of people watch him but that not necesarrily mean they love him. I, for one, a moderate (neither right nor left) viewer watch him to see his how the left leaning personalities will debate him. I love it when he gets “punched in the face” by his guests because sometimes he goes too far by attacking them personally. Adam does not need to be mentioned in his show but accept it or not, Adam is that popular that BOR cannot simply ignore not to put him in his segment. Whether they are good or bad comments, Adam had stirred the people’s interest and that’s part of the formula in surviving this industry.

  • Layla

I guess he is cheap entertainment

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

    Meh.

This was a big nothing of a piece designed entirely to enable him to utter the words “Adam Lambert” so that he could advertise same.

Adam’s coat tails are mighty long right now.

  • terfra

Fair and Balanced means to have both points of view brought out, both liberal and conservative. If anyone says Fox is not, you can’t have watched it much.
Believe me, I have watched Fox and the mainstream stations.
Fox IS the ONLY station to fairly report all news and bring all views out in the open. If you believe Fox slants to the right only, I think that would mean you just like to hear commentary or news through a liberal filter.
The mainstream stations slant mainly to the left and hardly have any unbiased staff.
The conservatives are always way outnumbered, and the commentators and journalist have skewed information. They do not have fair and balanced programming. They try to brainwash the public with their own agenda.
Fox on the other hand, tell both sides and leave it up to the viewers to decide. Liberal and conservative guests and views, and they duke it out.
Fox has both left and right and independent commentators. And sometimes you don’t know which way they lean. It should be that way.

  • CRB

Gotta luv O’Reilly. What an asshole.

  • Glenda

That was the most bizarre segment, even for O’Reilly. It was more about how ppl liable him (Bill). It was so whack. I’m still scratchin’ my head. And, I was totally sober.

Fair and Balanced means to have both points of view brought out, both liberal and conservative. If anyone says Fox is not, you canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have watched it much.

They lean right–much further they’d be in the Atlantic.

Want fair and balanced? Buy a Post and a Times. Turn off Fox.

Times and Post both lean left. They’re definitely not unbiased. So, I’ll keep Fox News thank you. You get both sides of the story, not the left agenda ad nauseum. And, Bill O’Reilly doesn’t need Adam for ratings. He has them and has had them. They wouldn’t have suffered one way or the other if he hadn’t mentioned Adam.

edit: don’t question the motives of your fellow posters

I don’t think his coattails are that long that O’Reilly has to attempt to ride them.

He is a commentator, not a journalist. In addition, he also holds a teaching degree.

edit: stop lecturing. DIAL IT BACK

  • weareallinnocent

Times and Post both lean left.

If the reference was to the Washington Times and Washington Post, no they don’t both lean left. The Times is well known as a conservative outlet. And the Post, more like center, but I’m sure some would say center left.

And if NY Times and Post, then we all know that NY Times is disparaged (probably unjustly) as being liberal and the Post is owned by Murdoch, right? I mean RRRRight?! :-)

this canonization really turns me off,

Me too, but for me it’s the canonization of Fox News that’s pushing me over the edge. LOL

  • Layla

Me too, but for me ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the canonization of Fox News thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pushing me over the edge. LOL

    Amen!

Fox news…fair and balanced… The words should not be said together in the same sentence.

Bill O’reilly reminds me of a whiney scandal monger who thrives on whipping conservative America into a frenzy. He validates all of their irrational fears.

  • holeighannie

I’ll repeat again…the NEWS portion of Fox is not skewed, they cover everything with a wide array of commentators. The OPINION shows, yes, they are skewed to the right, but anyone who pays attention should know the difference.

  • LK09

don’t complain about your fellow posters stay on topic

Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly defending him and even calling him a gay American (nice patriotic touch there) instead of the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“maybe gay guyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

If you go back and read the article that BOR was quoting, it was the newspaper article that called him “maybe gay guy”. Bill was just quoting the article.

This angle was not a turn around at all. Bill never said anything bad about Adam.

Someone upthread asked about BOR and his standings. He has had the #1 cable show for 100 months. He has no worries about being in an umemployment line anytime soon, even though I agree that he is arrogant and obnoxious.

And the reason fox news channel beats all of the other 24 hour cable channels put together is that, although it does lean right, it does show both sides of the stories. It lets the libs speak their side of the story too.

IMO, the NYT doesn’t lean left. It is an arm of the democratic party.

  • Glenda

To explain this–buy a Times and buy a Post. Read them back to back–you go left–you go right and when you’re done you go to the middle. See?

Also–addressing their ratings–it’s not quite true what they report. They tweek it a bit to say the least.

Bill O’Rielly is a bag of hot air. I think too much of myself to listen to that overpaid whack. A 4 year teaching degree? Oh–like wow.

  • PhDude

I am not sure if Adam will feel like he needs to take a shower after that comment from Bill or if that was just me? :)

I think Bill wants Adam to visit him with a loofah but it ain’t happening. Sorry Bill.

  • jaimej40

I disagree with O’Reilly’s choice to show the pictures (especially the weird censored version) , but I didn’t hear him come out and slam Adam Lambert. From what I recall, he said that he wasn’t watching the show and he had a panelist discussing it??? He is after all the “culture warrior”, so it was a relevant topic, even if it was misguided.
Speaking of, I love Adam Lambert in his interviews. He is one of the most well spoken individuals I’ve seen on TV in a long time. I don’t always care for his musical style, but he’s winning me over anyway.

  • HannaB4

O’Reilly complaining about people libeling him is like the pot calling the kettle black.
