Baylie Brown auditioned in season 6, but was cut after a poor group performance with Antonella Barba. Baylie was previously signed with Universal South, although she was dropped before releasing any music. She has been working on The Singing Bee as one of the background singers, which airs on CMT. Baylie has a great look, and a decent voice. I think this season there will be some country representation, but no one who will be a real contender for the win. I could see Baylie finishing around the middle of the top 12, which I think is as far as Nigel will want any country artists to go.

Baylie was dropped from Universal South with a bunch of other artists, when UMG decided to merge the label with Toby Keith’s Show Dog Label. I’m thinking there is a nearly completed Baylie Brown album sitting in the Show Dog-Universal offices. Could she be Kristy Lee Cook 2.0, with an album out just a week after the last tour stop? Last season, UMG didn’t make any attempts to plant artists they have/had relationships with, on to Idol. But, now could be the time to sneak in one, especially a country artists after the sales success of Scotty and Lauren.

I thought the rule was you could never have been signed to a major label?

I actually vaguely remember her from Season 6 and was disappointed to see her cut and was disappointed to not see any country representation on that season. Good to see her back!

On a side note, she looks like she would fit in on Lakoda Rayne(heh).

I was not impressed with either audition the song was better she sounds better in her upper register then lower to my ear. Excited to get going in a few weeks.

You can’t currently be signed to a label. Carly from S7 for example had a major label deal earlier in her life before idol.

Planty and Country, not my kind of girl.

    She’s okay. I don’t hate her.

I have liked getting these tidbits. It looks like an interesting mix of people so far.

There’s something “Same ol’ same ol’” about her.
She’s cute, though, but I get this “Katherine McPhee You know I’m good” self awareness, about her which might be off putting.
If she’s a Kristy Lee 2.0, at least she has a decent voice and tone.  I always thought Kristy was more about the look than the talent.

The audition to me was eh ok.  Loved her voice and the original song however…so my feel is even if she doesn’t make it waaay far in the competition, someone will pick her up.  Like Simon said….Commercial!…and if she can truly write as well….all the better.

We not only are kinda full of country after last season, but we also have already Hollie in the competition, and I think that Hollie is superior. Having them both would be too much, and yes, she lacks uniquines..

Is Idol heading into country direction?  I wouldn’t say I hate country but I don’t listen to it.  I listen to top 40, mostly pop music.  For sure this session of AI should have a girl to win it.  Tired of seeing guys winning it since S7.

She sounds quite pretty recorded. Rather nondescript as singers go though – not a ton of character or particularly notable qualities.

Nice to see her back! I like her a lot!

Truth is? ;) She could win the whole thing!..I like her…she has the pop nashville voice, I hope…we get some singers…with balls = a lil crazzy & killer voice and can dance :) so far..from what ive seen…this Kid is top 3

She’ll have a fan base from people who thought Antonella screwed her, and I like her. I hope she lives up to the hype in Hollywood.

Hmmm, I’m suddenly feeling protective over Lauren, so I don’t think I’d like a back-to-back country girl in the top few this year.  I’m still waiting for that POP female singer that could win it all and hit big on CHR.  Hope they’ll have some gals who could potentially do that this year.  Anxious for AI11 to begin!

I love her name.  Short, memorable, and show biz.

I have to say I much prefer Lauren’s voice live or recorded over Baylee’s.  I think Baylee has improved somewhat since her season 6 audition but I can’t see her getting much past top 12/top 10.  I just don’t think she has the “IT” factor imo.

I dont know why people always feel that way about Katharine when she was simply a great singer and she was a very confident gal. It is not off putting, only to one’s that see it that way…

Great video.  Lauren continues to be amazing.  Another building block in what will be a long and successful career!

i don’t hate her, but i really don’t think she has the voice to be grouped with a lot of the remaining contestants. she is a pretty girl, but if you took away her looks would she still be here?

To whoever says that she seems full of herself/off putting/cocky or anything else to the affect…Baylie is one of the sweetest people you could imagine. I have video chatted with her multiple times. I’ve followed her since season 6 and she’s still sweet as can be. She’s a blessed singer with a good Christian heart.

I liked Bailey in AI6 and I like her voice way better than Lauren Alaina’s.

no, you can have been signed previously, but you cannot currantly be under contract.

from what I have heard, she’s a bit better than Kristy, but we shall see.
