Jennifer Hudson will be performing the National Anthem at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO.

Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, asked her to sing the Anthem on Thursday night, before he formally accepts the party’s nomination.

Wow. What an honor! Congratulations Jennifer.

Besides singing for would-be presidents, Jennifer’s got a lot going on right now. Her debut album, Jennifer Hudson drops on September 30, and her new film “The Secret Life of Bees” opposite Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and Dakota Fanning opens in theaters October 17.

Bonus: Jennifer performs her single “Spotlight” on BET’s 106 and Park.

After the Jump…

    Congrats.Wow, superstar.

Kind of astonishing to see someone’s career booming like this years after their season.

    I didn’t even see her season, but I feel proud of her. Plus, she’s a Chicago-girl. ;-)

I watched most of the convention last night on PBS b/c I don’t have cable. They interviewed Jimmy Carter and he’s really lucid for 82 years old! I was impressed. Say what you will about him, he’s really sought to make a difference in the world. Of course, Ted Kennedy’s speech was tres impressive, considering all he’s been through of late. I missed Michelle Obama, though, because of a phone call. My friend kept calling me a political geek when I tried to get off the phone. LOL.

    Anyway, congrats to Jennifer!

Congrats here, also, to Jennifer, whose season I did not watch but who impresses me greatly with her abilities and her career trajectory.

And pj, Michelle Obama was absolutely captivating and wonderful.

Yay Jennifer! That really is such an honor!

PJ you should look up Michelle Obama’s speech online…it was wonderful. And I agree, Ted Kennedy was very impressive…I felt so proud of him during his speech! Sigh, I love convention season….

Sarah and lilbrusc102… thanks! I love the convention season, too. I plan to check out Michelle’s speech online at some point today. Prolly when I have some privacy here at work. I could close my office door, but I hate to do that.

Congrats Jennifer! ITA about Michelle, she’s my hero. If I could have an ounce of her regal presence, I’d be straight! JHud just blows me away with how big her career’s gotten.

I love the big OTT show that are political conventions. I want to see the Repub one too. I wonder if any Idols will pop up there as well?

    Daughtry is supposedly playing both.

Love the ongoing Idol success stories, like this one….. That has to feel good.

  • maturin

I feel like sending JHud a big ol’ hug…extending arms toward Colorado…urrgh..oh well, good thoughts to her! I am a sucker for her whole striving hard, big voice, big girl, strangely vulnerable deal. Go Jennifer, that’s one for the history books!
