We’ve just began following the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise here at the blog, and now there is some sad news to report. Gia Allemand, who appeared on Season 14 has died. She was only 29.

UPDATE: Gina died of an apparent suicide. Her boyfriend, Ryan Anderson, found her hanging and unconscious in her home on Monday and immediately called 911.  Her family took her off life support today.

A statement from her family:

“Due to a critical loss of brain and organ function, life support was withdrawn” on Wednesday, the family statement says. “Ms. Allemand passed away peacefully with her mother, boyfriend, and other lifelong friends by her side. As a practicing Christian, Gia did receive the sacrament of last rites.”

“Loved ones and fans will remember Gia Allemand as a caring woman who loved her family and was well-known for her compassion towards animals and mission to rescue homeless pets.”

Original report from TMZ:

“Bachelor” star Gia Allemand — who appeared on Season 14 of the show — is dead, a family member tells TMZ.

As we reported, the 29-year-old model had been hospitalized in New Orleans since Monday following what her family called a serious emergency medical event. The details surrounding the event are unclear, but it was announced that Allemand had been placed on life support.

Allemand’s mother and longtime boyfriend NBA player Ryan Anderson — of the New Orleans Pelicans — were at her side when she died.

Season 14 winner Vienna Girardi tells us, “Gia was a beautiful girl and an unbelievable friend. I’m shocked and can’t believe what happened to her. She seemed so happy, but never know the demons people are fighting inside. I will never forget her and will miss my friend forever.”

I’ll update this post with any new information.

Here she is on the Bachelor Pad finale, with Wes Hayden, which aired September 13, 2010.

Based on what Vienna says, it appears this was a suicide/drug thing. Very sad to see a beautiful young woman pass away like this.

  • dangrey

Yeah, Vienna’s message definitely doesn’t sound good. Very sad to see.

  • Larc

TMZ is reporting it was attempted suicide that caused “critical loss of brain and organ function” and that she was taken off life support.

  • Eileen99

    Terribly sad story.

  • thirdtime

Wow…beautiful…only 29 years old. It’s hard to imagine what has to be going through someone’s head to take their own life.

  • Sassycatz

Not meaning to split hairs, but apparently it was more than an attempt.

  • Larc

It did turn out to be a suicide in result, but she apparently still showed enough sign of life when they found her to be taken to the hospital rather than the morgue.

  • jobeob987

I’m afraid it’s becoming more common. I personally know/know of three women/teenage girls who died by hanging in 2012.

  • MissMyEm

It just goes to show that just because one is beautiful and seems to have everything, it’s not always necessarily true. Gia, in my opinion, was the one I had hoped Jake would have chosen and when I saw her on Bachelor Pad I was kind of surprised because she seemed very level headed to me. It’s always sad when someone so young dies, let alone by committing suicide. I hope whatever troubled her, she is at peace now. I wonder how she managed to hide it from those close to her?

  • usedtobelucy

She seemed level headed to me, too. But she also seemed fragile and just…on edge… or something. I was sick during that season of Bachelor Pad and I watched a few episodes — only time I ever have. And I liked her. She seemed like the nicest, most genuine person on the show, actually. I guess the fragility was real. Very sad.

  • Allison

What a shame. I don’t watch the show, but this is not the way to go

    The sad details:

    ———————-

Before she got out of the car, the report continues, Allemand told him that she still loved him, to which he said he replied, “I don’t love you anymore.”

Anderson went home, he said, and at 7:28 p.m. he got a text from Allemand’s mother saying he needed to go check on Gia, that they had been on phone and then the line just went silent for 10 minutes.

The athlete told police that he arrived at Allemand’s house 20 minutes later, opened the door with his key and found her unconscious but in a sitting position on the second step of a spiral staircase near her front door, a vacuum cleaner cord “wrapped around her neck many times,” the report states.

The report continued: “Anderson stated that he frantically unwrapped the cord” from around her neck, she was “not
responsive” and he stated that he “began yelling for help.” A neighbor, Julieann Snow, later told police that she heard a male voice “frantically calling for help” at about 7:50 p.m. and, when she went
next door, she saw Anderson “holding Ms. Allemand on the floor near the door.”

…The officers stated that they found a handwritten note lying on the dining room table that read, “Mom gets everything.”
