Well American Idol might have a little jealous that Mark Burnett and INXS had better pull when it came to getting songs approved. Just saying. Though NTUA has been played on Australian Idol, naturally. And butchered by Chloe Lattanza, daughter of Olivia Newton John on that contest reality show with the celebrity kids. Trying to remember whose kid won that, the guy from Twisted Sister's son maybe?

Like 'America' knew all of David C's songs, not! ' ¦We Are All Innocent, for example. Sigh.

Im a huge Our Lady Peace fan so I was thrilled when DC sang that - but it was to obscure for a lot of people.

ETA: in regards to INXS - Never Tear Us Apart is one of their best.

we are all innocent was huge!!! atleast it was to me...and Never Tear Us Apart was another amazing song....why is it that such gorgeous songs dont become popular but something silly that Katy Perry sings does?

anyways, michael looks super cute in the photos

I have been waiting years to hear someone sing Never Tear Us Apart on Idol. Nigel and Simon are crazy! It's one of the best songs ever written. It was definitely more well known than Mad World or Falling Slowly (before performed on Idol). Could have brought the song to a whole new group of fans.

Maybe they made some kind of decision to nix all INXS stuff when the first Rockstar series was on to avoid giving that show inadvertent publicity and then, later, forgot why they'd banned it or continued to bear a grudge against that other find-a-new-singing-star-show or something. Wouldn't surprise me that they'd be that silly. Several people sang it to good effect on Rockstar, as I recall. It's a beautiful song.

NTUA is the kind of lush, anthem-y poppish rock that Simon Cowell generally loves, and I kind of take his tastes as maybe mirroring the tastes of Nigel and the other Simon, since I don't really know what they like. But Simon C's such a sucker for tuggy melodies like that that I can't imagine he didn't both know and love NTUA.

Thanks MJ for posting this and Babyse for the nice recap and pix. Looks like a fun time.

I am also baffled by anyone thinking Never Tear Us Apart is obscure.

Our Lady Peace is even obscure for Canadian audiences, bwah, especially since OLP had been out of the public eye for a few years whilst Raine was doing a solo thing. Now they have a new album and new tour so that should change.

He spoke to the 5 girls right in front of the stage, some of whom were taking pictures with their phones, and posting them on facebook. Michael thought that was pretty cool. He told the girls 'And yes, I do know David Archuletta. He's on my speed dial' , which set them off in a fit of giggles.

LOL. Loved that part.

I don't know how people could not be familiar with Never Tear Us Apart, INXS were MTV darlings at the time and all their videos got massive play on MTV and Much Music as well as massive airplay - the album the song was part of went multiplatinum in the US and globally...........mind you I was an INXS fan from the time I saw their first video on Much Music around 1983ish

I did look it up and this song is still on a few lists of top 100 wedding songs, it would be a great first dance song.........Michael has performed it for other events and if he had been allowed to do it on Idol, could have been a different ball game - and if you live on the grassy knoll, ehem.

Ah however I just look up the Simple Minds song, "Don't You Forget about Me" it was the first and only US Billboard No. 1 for Simple Minds and it was part of the Breakfast Club soundtrack whereas NTUA only got to #7, so OK it might have been just slightly more popular and popular soundtracks help.

Michael usually did come out before and/or after the Idol concerts last year as a rule unless he was doing press which was usually before - the Idols take shifts or they did last year doing pre concert press.

Babyse, sounds like Michael made that a very special evening for everybody! It's great when you can meet someone like him in such a small venue and have great personal time like that. I went to two Idol concerts last summer but Michael never came out before or after the concerts so I never got to meet him.

And, babyse, I'll see you at Duluth on the 31st---can't wait! I've got front row seats and can't wait to see Adam!

Ahh, I loved that INXS song, but I suspect that there are plenty of people who know, say, Devil Inside but not Never Tear You Apart.

Sounds like a good concert, and I bet that the Brooke/Michael concerts will be good.
