Avril Lavigne wants to be a judge on X Factor. Via TMZ

With two judging slots to fill, it seems the folks at “X Factor” might not have to look far to fill one of the spots … because former L.A. Reid protégé Avril Lavigne is interested in the gig … TMZ has learned.

According to our sources, Avril had her people reach out to the folks at “X Factor” to let them know she’d like to be considered for the job. Our sources says Avril feels that since she came up in the biz at such a young age, she can mentor the kids on the show the right way.

We’re told talks are already happening between the two sides.

Besides her connection to Reid, Avril performed on the finale of season one of “X Factor” with finalist Chris Rene.

This sounds like it was leaked by Avril’s people.   I wonder how many female pop stars with a career that’s on the wane are after the job?

Avril was a guest judge on Idol during the auditions Season 9, and I found her a little annoying.

    No thank you

Dear Lord, no, nyet, non, unhuh.  I will never forget when she was one of the people reading the Grammy nominees one year and she mispronounced David Bowie as bow-ie (as in to bow).  When someone corrected her, she said “whatever.”  And she thinks she can recognize talent?

God! Can’t they just pick someone like Kristen Chenoweth. Someone who is not just immensely likeable, but who is a phenomal, trained singer, and can clearly offer mentoring advice? Not someone with close to no talent (even though I do like some of her songs). Thanks!

I’m strangely not opposed to this, maybe my X-Factor part of the brain just doesn’t care after Cheryl Cole said no. I’m gonna put myself in the corner and not say anything more about this.

    I’m confused.

I can see what is in it for Avril (she needs to re-energize her career), but why would Simon want her? Surely he must remember what a flat and boring judge she was in Season 9 of Idol. She was the most useless of the celebrity judges by a very long shot.

Granted, Simon isn’t good with names. Maybe he has confused her performance with Shanai’s (“Oh, that Canadian girl. Yes, yes. she was fantastic. Good chemistry with the judges, interacted well with the contestants and knew her stuff. Gorgeous too! Yes, let’s sign her!”).

That’s right! where’s Shania?, why isn’t she interested and stuff? She was very good on AI, I remember wishing she would have stayed at least another week.

I like Avril Lavigne, the artist. She was definitely one of the more talented and versatile teenage artists to emerge during the Britney and Xtina era and she’s come a long way since “Complicated”. She still has a huge fan following and enjoys a modest amount of success, so she might actually have good instincts about the music industry. I guess the only issue is whether or not she has the right personality for the job. I’ve seen her in interviews and she’s definitely not what I would call an extrovert, so it could go either way.

Yep, Simon must have Shania and Avril mixed up.  Good one Kirsten.  LOL!  This is definitely not a good idea because the only one who will get any real benefit from this is Avril.

Shania is headed to Vegas for her residency there in December. She should have been on Idol instead on Jennifer.

This is sooooo planted by Avrils people. TMZ hasnt run a story about Britney or Janet. But all of a sudden Avril? No way! Unless LA is now casting.

The one thing I will say on a positive note is she would have an opinion unlike most ladies on these shows (sadly saying that)

X-Factor already looks a big circus for me. It wouldn’t surprise me. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised even if they called Stacy Francis to be a judge.

lol Avril was also a guest judge back in season 4 or 5 auditions. I’m not a fan of her, I don’t think that she’ll bring in the viewers, and she’s kind of annoying to be frank. :)

Avril is incredibly inarticulate. She would be awful. I was intrigued by the Leann Rimes rumor. Some other good possibilities to me include Monica, Mandy Moore, Lil Kim, Natalie Maines, and Ciara.

I’d kind of like to see what she does when Simon calls her a jealous old cow, though. It could turn out sort of like Jersey Shore with an annoying British guy.

No, no and NO.  She would be completely clueless.  She also doesn’t have a strong enough track record for me to respect anything she has to say.

On the contrary, I can see Lee Ann Rhimes having possibilities.  She has taken a beating for her personal life, but professionally she would be a way better mentor than Avril Lavinge.

Few people wouldn’t want to be a judge if they can pull down J-Lo type money ($12M-20M) for a few months work.

I’d like for Shania Twain to consider this judge position. I love her!!!

It would be just like Simon to try to reach for the young audience with a person who was the hottest stuff in 2002. (omg “Complicated” is actually ten years old!)

As Mercedes from Glee once sang, “Hell to the NO!”

Avril sold more than 30 million albums, I consider that a good track record.  Another pluses are 1) she does not have to maintain “nice” image, so she would not be afraid to be critical of contestants and 2) she is young.  I think that the age of the judges is one of the Idol problems and benefit that The Voice has.  X-Factor should learn lessons from their competition.

I think Simon was referring to a Canadian but not Avril or Shania but Celine Dion. Celine is in the same league vocally as Mariah and Whitney and is also internationally known. Unlike Mariah and Whitney, her vocal skills do not appear to have diminished with age and she is scandal free. She would be a very credible mentor vocal wise but also performance wise thanks to her many years putting on a glitzy Las Vegas. No way Simon would be as dismissive of Celine Dion as he was with Nicole and Paula. Only problem is that $12 million a year may not be enough to get her.

Reba Mcentire would make a good judge for xfactor. Such a lengthy career she’s had that included her own TV show and tons of #1 hits and even a recent #1 country hit.

  • chessguy99

I didn’t like Avril’s stint as guest judge on Idol. She never really sounds committed to anything, except her own career, in interviews I’ve seen.

Simon would never hire someone that talented in so many genres.

  • ronnie

Absolutely no one would tune in to Avril, if their purpose is to lure in new viewers, I don’t think she can do it.

That’s funny lol… David Bow-ie (as in bow-wow)….  She would be good with the contestants’ names… Heejun, and the Hallie, Hollie, Haley, Bailey contingent.  Yeah, get Avril.

Worst judge possibility I’ve heard so far.  BLECH!

  • Anonymous

I don’t see how her career is on the wane but whateva… I don’t care who they get for a judge on that horses behind American version.

  • http://twitter.com/Trishdish2001 Trish Martin

OH NO!  I have nothing against Avril personally but please do not select her as a judge!  I like Britney Spears and Janet Jackson.

  • http://twitter.com/INIatali Natali

Cyndi Lauper, Janet Jackson, Reba, Cher, Britney Spears, Alanis M, Beyonce, Gloria Estefan, Gwen Stefani, Jewel, Missy Elliot would all be GREAT contenders IMO

I just don’t see Avril Lavigne as an X factor type at all. No offence. I don’t dislike her but I think her on the Xfactor is like oil and water…
