Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger are Engaged

In a surprise announcement, Avril Lavigne’s rep confirms that the singer is engaged to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.

The news comes as a complete surprise to fans. The Canadian couple has kept their relationship a secret, but did tweet about their collaboration on Lavigne’s upcoming album back in February. “Bro’ing out with Chad Kroeger in the studio,” Lavigne tweeted with an adorable photo of Kroeger hugging her.

“Things just clicked real quick. We were just gonna [collaborate on a] couple of tunes,” Kroeger told K104.7 in April. “And then she wanted me to sing on one of them and then we just started flying on all these different songs.

Avril was a guest judge on Idol during the Season 9 auditions, and Kroeger has collabroated with Season 5 Idol alum, Chris Daughtry.

Now…Let the snark begin!

    I saw a lot of snark on the internet, mostly because of the usual snark against Nickelback.  But I think they make a great couple.  He’s 37 and never been married, hopefully he’ll make a great husband for Avril.  Congrats to both of them!

    I have to admit my first reaction was laughter but good for them, if they’re happy. I definitely want to hear this collaboration between Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne, a meeting of musical minds if there ever was one.

    No snark here. I’m always happy when people find that elusive thing called “True Love”. One positive outcome, Avril already seems to have gotten Chad to cut his “Baby Bolton” hair. He looks younger already. Now maybe she’ll inspire him to write some less misogynistic/more complex lyrics? I don’t love them or anything, but Nickleback is not as bad as everyone likes to pretend they are. Somebody is buying their albums and attending their concerts?

    For people wanting a more obvious connection, most of these writing sessions occured with David Hodges, who has also written for David Archuleta (Crush), cowritten with Carrie Underwood (including the Narnia song that got a Golden Globe nomination), Chris Daughtry (What About Now, others), David Cook (Circadian and others), and, of course, former gf Kelly Clarkson.

    The music world needs a Six Degrees of David Hodges is what I’m saying.

    Prince William and Kate? Even if you don’t think it will last forever they are highly likely to give it a go for several years.

    Hahaha. You are so right Standtotheright. I follow David Hodges for the same reason (I admit, I also follow him for the random photos of ultimate frisbee and highstakes monopoly games with David Cook, lol).

    David Hodges has been tweeting about writing and working with Chad and Avril in the studio for months now, but this still comes as a pleasant shock.

    standtotheright, so funny you brought up the Hodges connection because that’s immediately where my mind went last night when this news came out.  haha
    Good for them and I wish them the best.  I won’t say that this doesn’t have a major WTF quality to it and the cynical side of me thinks it’s a nice PR ploy.  She literally just finished recording her next album then this comes out.  Like I said, that’s just my cynical side.

    It’s funny I read that they’ve been together for 6 months and think that that is so fast to jump to this step, probably because no one knew they were even seeing each other. Heck, I still thought Brody was in the picture.  Then there’s another couple who’ve been together the same amount of time, Kelly C. and Brandon, and if it came out today that they were engaged, I probably wouldn’t even bat an eyelash at that news.  They’ve been together practically nonstop during that 6 months and we’ve actually heard about that relationship.  lol

    I just read that Chad bought Avril a 14 carat diamond engagement ring for one million dollars.  Nickelback gets a lot of hate, but apparently they are laughing all the way to the bank.

    Edit: That prompted me to look up how much Chad makes – almost 10 million per year! And that’s just Chad, not the whole band. Wow. He has a net worth of over 50 million. Now I really see why he doesn’t seem to care at all about all the criticism thrown his way.
