Woo Hoo! I cannot wait! Let’s get s little bit of excitement on this show!! Timeless music will never, ever get old! It can be arranged differently; speed up the tempo; slow down the tempo. Make it a country song; a rock song; a gospel song!

I guess young people have to get old to appreciate this. Although my young Grandchildren love the music for “Lilo & Stitch” and ELVIS was the first celebrity they knew that wasn’t a cartoon character! We’re talking two years old.

Strange, because I love the music of my Mom and Dad’s era. Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and others of the Big Band era.

Cirque de Soleil brings Elvis up-to-date and Adam should have a GOOD time with this theme! I thinking I am really liking the idea of him mentoring. We need some fun on this show! Flashing lights, fire rings, girls on a trapeze. YAY!

Yeah girlgirl they have a list of people that are going, on tweeter that you can follow, and they put Adam on there already just in case. People already are starting to wonder if those two well see each other.

I am still praying it was like season 7 where they saw the beatles show but it was a more general theme, because I can’t think of a single good Elvis song.

I think people have been getting the completely wrong vibe about Crystal. She has insisted she isn’t going to change who she is, but I don’t think that means she has anything against being dolled up. From the little bits that have leaked out about her family her mother was not around from an early age, and it might not have been the best relationship. She was raised by her dad, so there might not have been someone in her family to teach her about makeup, and even if there was it seems she grew up pretty poor and there might not have been money for it any way. I think wearing high heels and fake eyelashes might be very new for Crystal, but I don’t think it is something she is hating.

you just cant hang near the slots or tables. you have to be 21 to enter the hardrock casino, but thats only after a certain time (7pm or so). i went to vegas as a kid multiple times, no problems.

You’re probably right; however, part of the joy and maybe for some, the agony is meeting the challenge. If they are a good singer, most can do this! The ELVIS theme has produced some awesome performances. Yes, Taylor Hicks stoled the show with this theme, but Carrie did a nice job with, “Trouble.”

Songs of this decade has not been that successful for the majority of Idols these past few seasons. We are looking at an artist that has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Country Music Hall of Fame, The Gospel Music Hall of Fame; and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. I have no idea how many songs they will be able to choose from, but there’s something for everybody!

If TPTB handle this properly, this could be one of the best shows ever. These kids have to know themselves, search within, and look for a song that means something to them.

Adam can do this if he gets them to relax and have some fun!

I think wearing high heels and fake eyelashes might be very new for Crystal, but I don’t think it is something she is hating.

Well I think she was not getting why women would wear fake eyelashes, so I’m not seeing that she’s a fan of them. Which I agree with her about both fake eyelashes AND high heels. I don’t need fake eyelashes, thank you very much. I might use some mascara, maybe, but not usually. And high heels only for certain occasions/dresses/pants. Otherwise my scoliosis can do just fine without the additional pain.

So yeah, I think people are understanding Crystal just fine, and I think she’s fine as she is. In fact, I think she’s pretty darn cool.

Thanks for posting Crystal’s tweet, MJ! MamaSox can be so cute and funny! I’ve never worn fake lashes before, but I’ve heard its a darn difficult task to tackle, lol. Good for her, trying on new things. She’s sensational. MamaSox Rox! ;-)

Well considering she said she didn’t understand why women would attempt to do that to themselves, seems she is pretty much hating it.

She said on the show she liked wearing the high heels, and she doesn’t do anything that wouldn’t be her. Just because YOU don’t need fake eyelashes doesn’t mean it wasn’t Crystal’s decision. At first I was totally against Adam Lambert being a mentor on the show. However, now that I know the the theme and the location, I have warmed up to this idea. I have said elsewhere that since David Bowie and Elton John are not available, why not ask Adam Lambert to mentor?

I’m sorry for being a curmudgeon here, but I really hope that the theme for this Tuesday isn’t “Elvis Week.” For one thing, we’ve seen it before. I mean, we just had “Beatles Week” for the third time in the last three years; do we really need to go back to the Elvis well AGAIN? Another thing is that Elvis’ catalogue of songs is horrendously dated. While there’s no doubt that these songs are classics, many of them are more than 50 years old and aren’t capable of being updated. If I recall correctly, even Chris Daughtry couldn’t put a current spin on Elvis tunes (I think this was the week he got booted, in fact); what chance will this creativity-challenged crew have? I know that I sound like a broken record here, but I think that a lack of new themes and song choices is the number one thing that is killing this show, much more so than underwhelming contestants and departing judges. Please, Idol producers, for the sake of your show, come up with a different theme for once.

In response to earlier posts, no problem on teenagers walking through a casino. They are not, however, allowed to loiter anywhere near a slot machine or table game. I was just in Vegas in February with my 17 year old in tow, so I can vouch that he walked through many casinos with me to get to various destinations.

I love that MamaSox tried her first fake eyelashes. I have 4 or 5 pairs that I trot out on Halloween only – too much fun!

Crystal is probably just trying false eyelashes to see how they look on her. A lot of blondes with red (or warm) tones in their hair and redheads in general have light lashes that don’t show up without using lots of mascara. And if your eyes are deepset, the lashes don’t show as well either. So maybe they suggested the false eyelashes to make her eyes pop more, especially considering they’re getting a taste of the Cirque and Vegas! Am happy to hear about the theme, location, Cirque du soleil, and all….I bet they are so excited!!! Am looking forward to the show this week moreso than usual now!!!

The goal for these kids is to make it to the final, get signed, and produce something that can be played on pop radio. Yet, they get very little opportunity to sing anything current on the show. No wonder “changing things up” has almost become a requirement.

Would love it to be Taylor because if he got a chance to reprise one of his AI tunes (rather than his current stuff), people might remember why he finally won the thing. He was quite the performer on Idol, the ultimate showman.

Not that having access to a stylist, or being part of the show’s expected style is necessarily a bad thing. I think of David Cook with his audition and his earlier stuff, as opposed to later during the season? I think there was a definite improvement. Which yes, I know, David Cook ruined AI, but even given that, at least HIS looks were improved. Same with like Kris Allen last year. His hair and that cap in his auditions? yeesh, no. But later? much cuter hair and clothes. Nothing wrong with it happening to Crystal as well.

I just don’t think it’s as internally driven as you seem to, is all.

I get that the producers are needing to appeal to an “older” (and very AC) demographic. But that is what I meant about “changing things up” being almost a requirement. The contestants are not only expected to sing well, they now must take a dated song and make it into something current. Or, as Randy would say, “I could hear that song on the radio today, Dawg.”

I’m surprised at the lack of love for Elvis here. He was a fantastic performer and singer.

I love Elvis. He was one of the greatest singers ever. Some people may not be aware of the vast range of songs he sang.

Even if you don’t care for the lyrics of the performance below, it’s pretty compelling. It’s only a sample of his broad work as an outstanding vocalist and stage performer. His ’68 comeback special is also something to see.

I’ve been surfing IDF – apparently Brooke White tweeted that she would be performing with Justin Gaston (from the If I Can Dream house). I’ve been watching the show and last week they said Justin Gaston was going to get an opportunity to sing before MILLIONS of people.

So it’s very possible that Justin and Brooke will sing an Elvis song. That way Simon Fuller can pimp Elvis AND Justin and his If I Can Dream Crew. They also hinted that the whole group might go to the show next week.

Let me throw another possibility into the ring – admittedly a long shot – but who knows. Kellie Pickler is in LA around then on the Fearless Tour 4-10-10 Fresno, CA, 4-11-10 San Jose, CA, 4-15-10 Los Angeles, CA, 4-16-10 Los Angeles, CA. That leaves 4/14 free for the Results show and I believe she is also filming a video in LA around then. Elvis was sometimes regarded as Country and maybe this is Idol’s idea of their usual Country week.

Well I feel the opposite- good thing its an Elvis theme as I’m not interested in Adam mentoring at all!!
My only incemtive to watch is to see how all the idols fair doing Elvis’ songs. Elvis actually had a wide range of songs in his repertoire , so I hope the idols choose wisely!!

Daughtry would be all sorts of amazing. I am guessing he would decline coming back to Idol to sing an Elvis song though for fear his tour bus would suddenly burst into flames or some other tragic event. Bad things happen for that guy after he completely kills an Elvis song.

My gosh I love Elvis – my mother loved him so I grew up hearing and loving all his albums.

I’m gonna give ‘em the benefit of the doubt – I had such low expectations for my first love, the Beatles – I believe they will do well with Elvis, too.

OK, I remember my favorite Elvis song is , I want you, I need you, I Love you!!!!I remember running around my basement singing it on top of my lungs when I was a little girl. I had all his old songs, I still have some albums and 45′s yes I am old!!!!

If American Idol really wanted the contestants to sing “current”, “Relevant” music, they’d have a Hip Hop week. But they don’t because what is popular and relevant isn’t necessarily appropriate for prime time and some of what counts as current truly sucks.

As for who the “finalist” is who will be on Wednesday night (in addition to Adam) I can think of many possibilities that would be great. I started watching AI in season 5 so wasn’t around for the big Clay vs. Ruben year. I’d like to hear Clay sing live on the show because the only other time I heard him was during one of the finale episodes.

Timeless songs stand the test of time, can be made current and continue to be relevant for generations.

Every year on American Idol they have some kind of “Standards” week… Rat Pack, American Song Book, etc. Those songs are popular American classics. And every year it’s one of the best weeks of performances in which most of the contestants stretch themselves and shine.

Lennon/McCarthy and Elvis are also classics. The songs they wrote or popularized will always be iconic and leave room for multiple interpretation. I, for one, am happy to have another week of songs sung by Elvis. It should be an opportunity for the contestants to rise to the occasion.

Sorry, the best favorite was, Its Now or Never. Tube it I LOVE that one.

He’s not a particularily sexy Elvis, but those guys were a blast to see live. He did Elvis during Elvis’s karate Vegas phase! Yeah! So if we are stuck with the Elvis theme, I would love someone to really make it rock. I think Casey could do a great job with something like the Dread Zepplin version. He could pull off the guitar licks.

I saw Elvis in concert too!!!! It was the year before he died, and I was so happy I got the chance to see him. Well, we didn’t actually get to see too much, we had crappy seats in the nosebleed section, but we brought binoculars, lol.

Totally worth the 1 hour drive to get to the concert too, I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. I was 18 and went with a group of girls, so much fun. Elvis was the real deal. Sigh.

In the hulu preview for next weeks IICD episode they show Justin walking into a room to get ready for a mystery duet. You see the back of a thin, wavy-haired blonde standing at a piano, and there’s a tiny bit of Justin singing none other than Elvis’s “If I Can Dream”. I don’t think any of them should attempt to cover any of Elvis’s iconic songs like If I Can Dream, or American Trilogy or frankly, any of his #1′s. That is just asking to fall short, IMO.

What they should do this week (and every other IMO) is find a song that suits their personal style and is one that was popular but has been kind of forgotten about- like we all forgot how much we actually loved it. We hear it and our ears perk up and all sorts of good memories start coming back-that’s a good song choice. If they can do a good job singing it more’s the better, and a bit of a tweak can mean a home run.

Every season most contestants focus too much on songs they like or songs that mean something to them and don’t even bother to consider what songs show their strengths and hide their weaknesses. It’s a competition- they need to use some strategy and show us something new every week- doesn’t even have to be a mind blowing change up, just something to make us think “I didn’t know she could do that!”.

It’s an art, choosing a song.
The more successful contestants realize that, and it makes all the difference as to who stands out and who blends into the background. This years bunch haven’t been all that great at it with very few exceptions. They choose things they are familiar with, or are comfortable with, or that suit their style- they don’t challenge themselves.
IMO show biz is a no guts, no glory world. Go big or go home.
We need more than same old, same old to get us excited nowadays.

Surely to God somebody in this bunch will eventually step up with an Elvis song (or whatever the theme is, it’s largely immaterial) that makes us sit up and listen. Then they’ll have some momentum, and that momentum is what wins this show.
But first they have to get us excited.
