I’m so glad to see Anoop! Yay! It’ll be good to hear Ricky again, too. But Matt G? Seriously?

Man, I know the judges all drooled buckets over him, but his uncontrolable vibrato and oversinging are just beyond bad.

I keep saying it over and over, but do we really need Gokey, Sarver AND Giraud? Ricky sort of edges into that territory as well, but at least he’s got a great voice.

Regardless of who goes through tonight, I’d like to see Jesse Langseth, Anoop and Ricky make it through to the top 12. Everyone loves Megan, but if I was a betting woman I’d place money on her totally bricking it on the big show.

Awww Anoopdawg! I heart him. He just makes me smile. I hope he kills it tomorrow and totally redeems himself. I’ll be really disappointed if he doesn’t get one of the wildcard spots. I think if Adam, Anoop, and Felicia are all in the top 12, this season will be redeemed for me.

hmmm 3 boys from round 1 for wildcard picks, 4 out of 6 picked so far are guys and I would be willing to bet money 2 of the 3 tonight are guys. So most likely the first 9 will be 2-1 guys. I wonder if they will let that influence their final wildcard picks. I can’t believe they would have only 3 girls in the Top 12 even if they thought the guys were all the best.

Very good picks so far, and Ricky’s is as cute as a button. My favorites for the wild card round are Ricky and Jesse.

So, Ricky and Anoop are pretty clear picks. Both sang well in R1. Matt kind of blew it, but I guess the judges really like him. I would like to see Jesse and Felicia in the WC round (if Felicia doesn’t make in tonight).

If DialIdol is right, there will be 2 guys again (Scott plus either Jorge or Ju’Not) and Lil going through today. I have a sad feeling Jesse will not be among the WC. Maybe they’ll bring Felicia back if she doesn’t make it through. As much as I tend to prefer the male voices, I think it’s going to be more interesting if they choose a couple more girls to put through.

Ricky and Matt are probably cheering for Felicia to make it tonight.

Anoop is probably ahead of them in the wildcard battle, and having a 6/3 gender breakdown means that they will likely be 2 girls at least chosen in the wildcard, which means no room for them at all.

Assuming that two guys get through tonight, I really hope they consider doing an 8-4 split. If Jorge doesn’t get through (looks like it might be Nate or Ju’Not), then I think it’s going to be tough to choose between Anoop, Jorge and Ricky for the last one or two male spots (and they’re all better singers than Kris, Michael, Scott and Ju’Not/Nate, imo). The girls who make it on votes (counting Lil) are all good singers and I’ll they’ll stick around for a while while the guys weed themselves out. I’d like to see Jesse or Felicia make it for the girls.

I just have this feeling that they will allow the judges to each pick a contestant and have 13 people this year. Wasn’t there supposed to be a surprise this year? If that’s the case I’m thinking 8 guys, 5 girls.

Oh dear god. Matt girard??? If they dont get some really good drama in there as well as some funny stuff this will be one boring ass season. Im gonna have to catch bits and pieces of mostly mediocre talent. Honestly, if tonight goes to Lil, Scott & Jorge, then I think there’s only room for one guy in the final wild card picks. Too many of the talented girls have been let go. So, I predict that regardless of who’s on the wild card show and how they sing, the judges will advance 2 girls and 1 guy to the top 12 (unless they go with manny’s 13 idea – which is entirely possible as well).

I’m with MJ in that I think the judges pretty much have in mind which 3 contestants they’ll advance from the wildcard, and barring any miraculously good or hideously bad peformances – they’ll pick who they’ve wanted all along.

Based on previous judge love, I’d say that single male spot is Anoop’s to lose. Although, they were showering Ju’not with quite a bit of love last night as well.

Hopefully, Ricky & Matt G enjoy tomorrow night’s wild card show as that is probably the last time we’ll see them LOL.

Although I dont think there were a lot of talented girls, none that I can remember or who stood out at the moment.

it is not that the guys are better…the deal is…int he beginning women vote more (well women vote more anyways)…and they vote for their pretend bfs…and the natural inclination is to vote for the men. it really is not that the men are better…it is who is voting.

so no…2 women for wildcard makes the most sense.

also…this is just one photo…ALL the contestants are in HW until tomorrow. So just because these three were let out of the hotel…no biggie.

My reasons that I feel fairly sure that Anoop will make it through (fingers crossed) is that he’s very popular and is mentioned on a lot of shows/articles as one who should make the top 12 plus it doesn’t hurt that he adds diversity. I also think the judges like him.

My guesses for who will be in the wildcard round are:

Anoop, Ricky Braddy, and Matt G of course from the picture.
Also Jorge if he doesn’t go through as Paula’s other pick. Megan and Jesse plus Felicia if she doesn’t get through tonight. Other possibles are Nathaniel, Tatiana, Ann Marie, Stephen Fowler, Jackie, and Kendall.

Folk, I think the ones not chosen were sent home every week so if they’re back in town it stands to reason that they’re here for the wildcard.

ANOOOOOPPPP!!!!! He is the best (only?) credible R&B voice in this competition. R&B is the most marketable genre in the US right now. He has to stay.

I just bought two Clef Hangers CD’s so I can get them autographed when he comes to my town for the AI tounr this summer. So he better make it into the Top 10.

I think Matt deserves another chance. He is talented.
But he really sucks picking songs for his vocals. He nailed “Georgia” during Hollywood week, so he can do awesome with the right song.

But honestly he really will have to be incredible to make the Top 12. Ricky and Anoop are heavy competition for him.
I really think they will just put one guy through and two girls. There are already two many guys in the competition.

Also, Paula floves Ricky. So who knows?

I’m in the minority, as usual, but I’m pulling for Matt G — but only if he has a really good performance tomorrow. His soft raspy voice is my absolute favorite of all the contestants this year.

However, I do think he has some bad habits, probably picked up by having to impress the denizens of the piano bar. But I think he could be really good if he polishes himself a little.

Yay for Matt G! I hope Felicia gets through too.

Anyone who picked the wrong song who showed the judges what they were capable of during Hollywood and the audition round should get another chance in the wildcard round. Isn’t that what it is for? Remember, we only get snippets, if that, of what happens prior to the semi-final songs. The judges and producers have heard them – we see only what they want us to see.

Regardless, I think the judges already know who they want – don’t forget, it is not about the best voices making it through – they are still casting for the show, the demographics matter – who can bring in the most viewers and money.

Lil, Allison and Adam will be the top 3, I predict! I don’t know if there is room for two piano men but Scott and Matt G could do a dueling piano Billy Joel sing off – which could be all kinds of awesome on the tour!

I was just coming here to make that very same prediction!

Personally, I’d take Ricky over Matt, who I’ve always felt was over-rated and gave off a yucky, unsportsmanlike vibe last week when he got the boot. Contrast that with Anoop’s graciousness when he got the heave-ho. And I think Anoop is a better singer too. Scott, OTOH, is awful, so if they need a piano player, it’s really a toss-up for me. I don’t really care as long as Anoop gets in. I didn’t care for Ricky’s interpretation of an Elliott-owned song, but the kid can sing, seems super sweet and gives off a slightly gay vibe, which I’m digging since he’s another evangelical. If half the Top 12 (13?) are going to be evangelical Christian worship leaders, I need at least one of them to be a closeted gay.

Totally agree. Plus she’s starting to appear “entitled” to me. And her husband comes across like a smug douchebag. Yeah, “all things work together for the good,” including getting your teeth fixed for free while you were on hiatus. Please. I really liked her prior to her audition, but she’s not all that great. I’d take her over any of the blondes though, except Jesse. I hope they reconsider Mishavonna too.

I’ve got my fingers crossed that they save a space for Nate. Can he fill the she-male 13th spot?

That actually captures exactly how I feel about Ricky Braddy. Anoop and Matt G both have something that intrigue me. For the girls, I liked Felicia. Really hoping she makes it in tonight over another guy. She deserves it way more than Jorge or Ju’not IMO.

Kristen was way underrated last night. But I don’t think she has a chance in hell of making the wildcard round. Other than that, I got nothing.

Re: the girls. I was disappointed in Felicia, I liked her better on youtube. Kristen reminds me of a Hee-Haw performer. I liked Jesse, but the judges didn’t seem to. I think Megan has major crash and burn potential. Pretty much all the 16 year olds (except Allison) tanked spectacularly or were boring as hell. IDK ,,, maybe Kendall?

I speculate that last week Matt G. may have given in to the evil temptation of reading teh internet; or, perhaps just an enthusiastic friend passed him the word–hey there’s this cool thing called Dial Idol and it shows you third! Without understanding the margin of error statistics and sample size problems for early rounds. And he went in feeling confident of getting through, and then whoa! Had to absorb the super-bad news really fast.

Admittedly, Anoop still comes off more attractively, because with all *his* buzz, he too, might easily have been overconfident, yet reacted very graciously to the news of losing to the first top three.

I don’t actually like Giraud’s singing. Just projecting and wondering how hard it would be to rearrange my face if I was super sure of being picked and a guy who no one had favored ahead of time Seabiscuited me. It was a fair call, though, Kris definitely outsang him that night.

I like Ricky the most of these three, hoping for Megan to come back – I think she has potential and is so unique. I wonder if they will bring back any of the crazies for a little atmosphere tonight?

Matt G. was all sorts of terrible last Wednesday, but I’m willing to give him another shot. That’s the whole point of the wild card, isn’t it?

I agree with whomever said that as well. Anoop is the only one of the top 36 that interests me. I watched last night’s entire 2 hour show on my DVR this morning in less than 30 minutes. I’ve found that I’m only watching the performances this year. I’m not interested enough in the contestants to listen to their back stories anymore, and listening to the judges just irritates me. I know MJ will summarize what the judges said anyway, so I come here.

Just because Ricky went to Belmont doesn’t mean he’s evangelical. I went to Belmont, and I’m the farthest thing from evangelical. In the music programs, there are quite a few people who are there for the program, despite the school’s religious affiliation.

So I just realized you wrote that The Grove is across from the CBS studios. Is that where they rehearse? Or they researse elsewhere and just do the live show at CBS?

What I am getting at is—Are the WC contenders rehearsing this week? Or are they going to have to rely on the last-minute rehearsal on Thursday morning? I think the quality of the WC show is going to be drastically different in these different scenarios.

Well if that wasn’t already obvious… though everyone could be in town since they don’t know the wildcard picks yet, possibly.

That’s the toughy though– they are going to announce picks for group 3 tonight? So what, they’re gonna have ONE day to practice? That’s my only fishy wonder…

But I also think that the only way he will get through is that he has an incredible performance and redeems himself. Otherwise he is a goner.
So we will see.

There’s only one thing I don’t like about that picture. How Ricky is in the back. This is what Simon was telling him when he said that Ricky needs more of that star persona. He needs to be up in front or at least walking beside the others (like in that big spot between Kris and Alexis). Letting himself drift to the back of the others is how he got lost in the shuffle during Group 1.

I hope Ricky gets a wildcard. I think the three in the picture will all get a shot but unless something changes dramatically I hope Ricky is the one who walks away with it.

I wish these kids were more distinctive for me other than — ie, the blind guy, the girl who got recalled at the last minute, the Puerto Rican guy, etc.

I’m gonna agree that this experiment with format sucks. Too many contestants, and too many who don’t pop out at you. Better a top 24 that winnows fast to a top 12 you can get to know and love/hate.

I’m down to thinking this is going to be demographics. With Anoop you can get a decent singer, and an Asian fella. With Matt you get some more teenybop cake. With Scott you get tons of overcoming-adversity backstory, though refreshingly I don’t think he’s the one who believes he’s in any way handicapped.

I dunno….what does it say about the year that the only one whose performance has stayed with me and made me want to do repeat viewings, apart from the one-of-a-kind Adam Lambert, is Kris? I’ve watched “Man in the Mirror” five or six times!

One other thing, while I’m ranting: I’m really sick of hearing the word “commercial” from a certain judge, as a compliment. Yes, I get it that the point here is to scout a hot recording artist who’ll sell like mad. But doesn’t even Kara get that what the American recording industry really needs are fresh new musical artists who aren’t just looking or sounding “the package,” but actually bringing something special and unique to the game? If not, why not just take whoever looks the most like Miley Cyrus or the Jonas guys or whatever, and make them a clone?

Incoming, internet based fanbases are miniscule compared to the TV viewing audience. That’s the reason that someone who moves the casual viewer/voter can garner more votes than the guy with 100,000 myspace friends. If 1/4 of the people watching voted only 1 time, they would far outnumber any favorite’s fanbase power-voting. TV is still just far too powerful a foe for the internet

On the Anoop thing: for me, it’s that Anoop picked a pretty boring song, but he sang it well, and on key. Ricky sang well too – but he lacks charisma – or whatever it is that makes the tv audience remember him. Plus – Simon is the tie breaker – so if it comes down to that Ricky doesn’t get his vote. Matt G sang a pretty unexciting song completely off key, all over the place and dull. He shouldn’t even get a chance at that Wild Card in my opinion.

So, that’s why I think Anoop has a good shot at a final 12 spot. Actually, just going by judges comments, I think Ju’not has a better shot of taking that final 12 spot than either Ricky or Matt G.

I’m hoping maybe they’ll pick 5 people, and there will be a top 14. Then in the first two weeks of the finals two people will go home each week, leaving the top 10 for the tour.

I don’t think Felicia is making it tonight. I bet a guy will take it again, and Jorge and Scott will go through. She disappointed me last night; I thought it was kind of copycat and there were a few missed notes. I was surprised by all the praise I’ve seen for her here. Still love her though.

I really, really, really hope they let the WC round people sing new songs. Maybe pick a song someone else did these past three weeks, so the band will already know it? Or one off the last round of Hollywood list? The latter seems better because it seems that a lot of people who may be in the WC round did really well in the last round in Hollywood. I would love to see more than 5 seconds of Anoop singing “My Prerogative.”

Well, we know that 3 of the apparent W/C choices are in town, so isn’t it possible they have already begun practice? Those who will be W/C for Group 3 can begine practice after the show tonight.

I will not vote at all if Anoop isn’t in the TOP 12.

I would love to see a surprise “top 13.” I think it’d be fitting. In that case they could put through two guys and two girls to the top group no matter what happens tonight.

My predictions (thought they’re always wrong): tonight we see Lil (who deserves it), Scott (meh), and… Jorge (who I can’t help but love) go through. (I know DialIdol ended with Ju’Not above him, but last week with Kris, Kris began the night in the lead and slipped after a few hours, but I believe that in DialIdol’s history, it’s the contestants in the lead after the first, what, 20 minutes?, that matter.)

Wild card picks: Anoop, Ricky, Matt G, Felicia, Ju’Not, Kendall, Megan, Mishavonna/Jesse (I hope both!), Ann Marie/Jackie (I hope neither, I’d take Misha AND Jesse over either of these two), and if they want to pull a fast one on us, Tatiana.

This year, I think that there is more talent on the guy’s side, and I would really like to see more guys in the top 12 than women. So I’m hoping that 8 make it, I think it’s possible that this could happen.

I think that it would be very hard for the judges to only choose one guy out from Anoop, Matt G. Ricky Braddy, possibly Nate and Jorge if neither one of them doesn’t make it through tonight. The judges seems to really like Anoop Matt Giraud and Nate, and Paula really likes Ricky Braddy.

I think that it’s a strong possibility that they will choose more than one man, especially given the buzz around some of them. And the girls they really seem to like are Lil, Allison and Alexis who have already made it through.

I don’t think that they would do 9-3, (even though I would love that) but I think they might do the 8-4 split. And if they do this, I don’t think that all of the girls are automatically going get knocked off 4 weeks in a row.

I think that Lil and possibly Alexis could stay around for a while and knock off people like Michael Sarver, and possibly Kris Allen.

I want Anoop to make it through, and I hope that either Matt G, or maybe Nate make it through as well. I definitely want two of these three guys to make it through. The girl that I want to make it through is Jesse Langseth, and I would be okay if Mishovanna was the girl that made it through if there is an 8-4 split.

But I don’t think that either one of these girls are going to make it because I don’t think that the judges really like either one of them that much. I think that Meghan has a good chance of making it through to the wildcard or maybe Felicia. But I think that it’s very likely that Meghan will make it to the top 12.

While I’m all about the Anoop love, I’m even more excited that Ricky has a chance to make the Top 12. I enjoy his singing even more than Anoop’s. Matt? meh.

In a perfect world, Ricky and Anoop will make the top 12. And if Felicia doesn’t advance tonight, I hope she has another shot in the wildcard.

Amendment to my wild card picks above: this is who I think will be picked, not who I want. I actually forgot about Von — he might be in there too.

Here’s who I’d LIKE to see:

Ricky
Matt G
Megan
Mishavonna
Jesse
Felicia
Von

Then I don’t care, but I think Ju’Not, Kendall, Tatiana, and Ann Marie and/or Jackie have good chances. Maybe Nick/Norman, maybe Nate.

We all think Anoop will get in automatically no matter how crappy he may/may not perform tomorrow because the JUDGES will decide who goes through. He is a fan favorite (not that I have caught on yet) and if they didn’t put him through they’d get uber hate from the fans.

Then Ricky- because he’s the only one of Paula’s top favorites that hasn’t made the top 12. So no matter how poor a performance he may or may not give tomorrow night or how forgettable he may or may not be, she will put him through.

So I ask, what’s the point of the Wildcard show if we already know who’s gonna pull through? Each judge picks 2 to make 8 performers, so more than likely one from each of the judges picks for wildcard will be their picks for top 12.

Let the predictability roll on in…..

I wonder how many wildcards peformances there are going to be tomorrow night? I saw that tomorrow’s episode is only an hour. So if they have like 10-12 wildcards, they are going to be very pressed for time, to get all of those performers, in, plus showing the judges decisions on who gets to advance to the top 12.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they do what they did during season three and eliminate a few of them right when the show starts. Though I don’t think that will make much sense. It didn’t back then and it doesn’t now. But we all know that the producers don’t always make sense with the things they do on the show. lol

Back then, they called twelve people back for the wildcard and then eliminated four of them before the singing began. So that only eight out of the twelve actually got to sing. So I can imagine them calling nine people back, eliminating three right up front and then letting six sing.

I’m probably wrong, though. XD

I’d just like to say that I got 6 of my 8 “hopes” for the wildcard round. Jasmine and Tatiana are in over Felicia and Mishavonna. Oh well! 75% ain’t bad!
