Pitch Perfect star, Anna Kendrick, will join Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy on next week’s So You Think You Can Dance judges panel. And this Saturday marks the third annual National Dance Day, so put your dancing shoes on!

The Celebration of Dance Gala will end the day, with appearances from Glee stars, Darren Criss and Jenna Ushkowitz and a slew of SYTYCD All Stars.  Tickets start at only $35. Sounds like a fun event for those of you living in the Los Angeles area.

Tonight, after America’s vote was revealed on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, Makenzie Dustman, Jenna Johnson, Mariah Spears, Alan Bersten, “BluPrint” and Curtis Holland were the three girls and three guys who received the fewest votes. After deliberating, the judges – Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and guest judge Carly Rae Jepsen – sent Spears and “Bluprint” home at the end of the show.

Next week, on Tuesday, July 30 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), the competition returns when the Top 14 finalists: Makenzie Dustman and Paul Karmiryan; Hayley Erbert and Curtis Holland; Amy Yakima and “Fik-Shun”; Alexis Juliano and Nico Greetham; Jasmine Harper and Aaron Turner; Jenna Johnson and Tucker Knox; and Malece Miller and Alan Bersten – compete once again for America and the judges, including guest judge Anna Kendrick (“Pitch Perfect”).

The third annual National Dance Day will take place this Saturday, July 27. Also on Saturday, the Dizzy Feet Foundation (DFF), in partnership with The Music Center, will present the “Celebration of Dance” Gala, hosted by its board members, including Nigel Lythgoe, Adam Shankman, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, Derek Hough and Summer Glau. The gala, which will honor actress, dancer and singer Chita Rivera will take place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at The Music Center in Los Angeles and will feature performances by talent from SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, “Dancing With the Stars,” the “Step Up” films, the LXD, Travis Wall’s Shaping Sound, Philadanco and many others. I LOVE ANNA KENDRICK!

  • Kesia Monteith

What does she know about dance? Seriously, bring back the choreographers to judges. It’s not like the celebs are bringing in the ratings.

  • tripp_ncwy

I know Nigel likes his guest Judges but seriously. I have popcorn ready for Nigel to try to defend Carly from last night, awful.

I’d rather have the choreographers as judges, too. Some celebs obviously know nothing about dance & have no judging input (Carly Rae). Don’t have them judging again. But I had no problem with celebrities such as Christina Applegate who has done Broadway & dance & at least when judging has some dance knowledge.

  • Reflects On Life

She’s a triple-threat type who’s been in broadway musicals since childhood, IIRC. So she is qualified, though I do agree that I prefer choreographers or people well-known for dance to judge.

  • jujubee22

she sang and danced her way to a Tony award nomination as a kid..and her dancing in Pitch Perfect wasn’t bad..

  • ptebwwong

I didn’t know Carly has done musicals. Her judging comments didn’t show she had any dance knowledge at all.

I’d give anything to attend the “Celebration of Dance” Gala dance event. Wish they would have a separate programming for it! I like to have guest judges know something about dance. Carly Rae was a failure. I could have done a better job – as most of you.
