After the jump Andrew and his friends AJ Rafael and Danny Moreledge cover the Taio Cruz tune “Dynamite”.

Andrew’s Idol run never quite captured how great his You Tube covers are.  Well, “Straight Up” sorta did. Watch after the jump.

    That was great! I’d love to hear Andrew cover a Bruno Mars song. I think they sound very similar. I guess I should go check out his You Tube channel.

    Lisa- I thought the same exact thing since I first saw Andrew. My kids discovered both Bruno and Mike Posner right before the season started and when I heard Andrew and Alex Lambert I thought those two sounded similar to both of them. These are the kind of guys who slip through the cracks of idol because they never fit into those damn theme weeks, but they are probably the most current of any of the idols. This is what idol should be looking for this year- males with a rythmic leaning vibe.

    I think AI would have loved to have a Neyo/Bruno Mars type winner already. Mario Vazquez from s4 was a major early favorite his season but then he dropped out when he made the finals. There were lots of suspicious circumstances but Clive Davis/J signed him and he even had a pretty big hit with Gallery. But he barely sold any albums. It was a weird situation.

    I definitely enjoyed this cover. Good song choice.

    windmills- I remember him- he would have done really great in an upcoming season, but back then it was all about the Divas. I would be willing to bet that is what they are going to go for this year. The talk of Timbaland and Dr Dre kind of makes me think that but then again Nigel threw me waaaay off course yesterday when he said they need to get back to the Mariah schmaltzy type, lol.

    Anoop just might suprise people too.

    He said on twitter it was either between two labels. Sony and Capitol were the two labels.

    Wow, wow, wow. How can he be so awesome here and have sucked so bad on idol. I was always expecting him to bust out something fabulous on the show. I really like his videos.

    Andrew – meh. As The Dog would say, “it was just okay for me for you, dawwwg!”

    His buddy AJ Rafael there is really good, though. The cover they did with JR Aquino (who is also incredibly awesome) of Iyaz’s “Replay” is legit.

    AJ and JRA both have a ton of great covers. I don’t know how they haven’t hit it big.

    That’s mind-boggling to me. I even saw him live and can’t believe one record label, much less two, would be over the moon about him. Congrats to him and his fans if it pans out, though.

    My only issue is that Andrew covers songs that are way overplayed by the radio, so my first reaction is to be disgusted with having to hear the song again.

    Despite that, I really love these covers and almost want to see his inevitable cover of Just The Way You Are (which is also played pretty obnoxiously). His covers are fresh. I do kinda wanna see him do something different that isn’t just the most popular song at the time, but as long as he’s good, it’s all good :).

    Anybody notice the iPod pillow? That looks awesome!

    I also think he sounds quite a bit like Bruno Mars. Bruno Mars’s songs are quite overplayed, but I think Andrew going that route would be pretty cool.

    I don’t think he sucked at all. But idol is a tough venue and it didn’t give him the space he needed to work. Just from what he said on the show, Andrew viewed the show as a chance to experiment with different styles and ways of performing, rather than a competition with voters who needed to be wooed. PLus we all know that the producers decide who they’re going to push each week and all the input from the background people (vocal coaches, for instance) can affect idols positively or negatively. Over the years we’ve seen promising talents wither under this treatment, while mediocre, but attractive, people (e.g., Sanjaya, Megan Joy, Tim Urban) thrive, or at least make the Top Ten and outlast more worthy singers and performers.

    I enjoy these kind of covers from Andrew. He teased a portion of one in a twitted a few days ago of the Usher song I think it is called Dj Has Us Falling in Love Again. that one had real promise too. I hope his originals can capture the same feel of these covers.

    Hmmm-@Studio 57-I guess its escaped a few that Clear Channel Communications produced a critically acclaimed promotional music video for Alex Lambert with- I Didn’t Know-and further that I have found out that- If I Can Dream is likely going to broadcast TV,this winter…
