UPDATE: Amy’s tour has been cancelled

When is Amy Winehouse going to get her sh*t together? The soulful, but troubled songstress kicked off her tour in Belgrade yesterday. When she took the stage, she was stumbling and mumbling all over the place–obviously drunk or high. Probably both.

From the tubey:

The beginning of an incredibly strange set Amy Winehouse did at the start of her European tour in Belgrade’s Kalemegdan Park. As you can see, she immediately hugs the guitarist, appears a bit dizzy, takes ages to take off her shoes for no apparent reasons, tosses a shoe on one of the backing vocalists and delivers a half-spoken version of Just Friends.

Ugh. Such a waste of talent.

A good reason the war on drugs continues. Sadly, they will probably still have to pay her for this. It is a waste of talent.

She refuses to stay in rehab to get clean. Until she does, more appearances like this are likely to happen — until venues just refuse to book her at all

Too bad, she’s very talented. But it’s like she’s trying to throw her life away

A good reason? Who the hell wants their tax paying money to help out this foolish dumb twit? I wouldn’t! It’s up to her to finally put a stop to her own drinking and drug ways, and if she does not volunteer to help herself, then how can the law be any help? Unless she drives drunk, then that’s a different issue. With that said, I actually believe she’s off drugs, but the drinking has been lasting a lot longer and even more troublesome, it just continues to plague her because she’s use to it. Such a tragedy, as she has released the most prolific album of the millennium to date. She’ll never get back to what she use to be, I lost all hope. :(

ETA: What makes it sadder? Five days ago, she supposedly played a “fantastic” gig in London at the 100 Club. Report said she was sober, confident, telling jokes. If you google her and look further down the news about the great gig she had. They said she was at her best. How can she now appear to be inebriated and intoxicated five days later, with management begging hotel services to ban alcohol wherever she is? She has now canceled the rest of her tour, as she is clearly not ready for prime time. It was her and management’s decision. At least she has come to her sense about that!

if anyone can keep a straight face at the 1:27 mark, i applaud you.

Just saw on the CBS news the tour’s been cancelled.

ETA: Read at Reality Rocks, that only the next 3 dates are cancelled and then they will reevaluate.

    Wow. This is just sad.

Couldn’t even get through the first video. This is so sad.

Wow. Couldn’t get through it either. I don’t feel sorry for Amy. She’s been given many opportunities to get her shit together and plenty of people and resouces to help her. I feel sad for the situtation. I loved her album. What a waste of talent. I am not sure she could even come back if she stayed sober.

    So sad.

I do feel sorry for her. I don’t see this as having anything to do with the war on drugs, that certainly has failed, and cost way to much for the limited results…..she’s a mess, and she is definitely going to die unless she gets help. Talented or not, that is something to feel sorry about. Her money and resources don’t matter a bit, until she finally comes to the conclusion that she is going to stop trying to commit suicide, because that’s what she’s doing, and it’s horrible to watch.

I agree that this doesn’t have anything to do with the so called war on drugs. However, many a musician with substance abuse problems have been able to perform. Not that I’m advocating her using or drinking while off the job, but it is her JOB. If her staff have to try to hide it from her, that speaks volumes.

Is it sad? Yes. Is she trying to get better? No. She needs tough love. Maybe the people around her only see $$$ I don’t know. But if they don’t get her straight, then the enabling is gonna bite them.

She might have tortured artist syndrome. She maybe afraid she can’t top the big album and is sabotaging herself. Very sad.

very few can match this girl’s huge talent. LOVED her last album. such a shame.

Now I think this is an interesting idea. Maybe Lauren Hill is suffering with the same issue, but it’s just manifested in a different way?

It IS sad, addiction is a terrible thing, whatever you’re addicted to. She’s going to die if she doesn’t get clean, period.

  • samgamgee

A waste of talent indeed. She is possibly the most artistic artist in the mainstream today, even better than Adele, but she needs to get her act together.

  • saramcvt

Sadly, this is a prime example of addiction. It is a disease, and she is in the full throws of it. It is sad to see anybody, especially someone with so much talent, unable to over come it. I think it is easy for us who do not struggle with an addiction to wonder why the person can’t get their act together. I haven’t walked in her shoes, and I refuse to pass judgment of her. I hope someone can intervene and save her life. It is more important than any show or album.
