The America’s Got Talent results began with a total fake-out tonight. Future Funk, ArcAttack, Dan Sperry and Kristina Young took the stage first. Who made it through out of this group? NOBODY! SHOCKER.

Next, it was rock climbers, AscenDance vs the kiddie ballroom dancers Anna & Patryk. And of course, Anna & Patrick make it through

Singers, Michael Grimm, Prince Poppycock and Taylor Mathews were next and the judges were beside themselves. How could any of this talented group be eliminated? (Actually, Taylor was pretty mediocre. Poppycock was interesting, at least, Michael Grimm is talented).

SURPRISE AGAIN. All three make it through. Except, with the first group all getting the axe, it was pretty obvious that at least two of the three would advance.

So, that’s 4 of the 5 acts that will advance to the Top 10. No surprises there, really.

The 5th act to go through is chosen by the judges from the 5th and 6th place finishers. The three acts left were fire magician, Antonio Restivo, sister kiddie singers Christina and Ali, and kite flyer, Connor Doran. Keep in mind that the sisters have cystic fibrosis and Connor is autistic–it helps explain the what-the-f*ckery that happened next.

Antonio Restivo, who was clearly talented, and the most suitable of the three to take his act to Vegas, was ELIMINATED straight away.  The look on his face when he left the stage was priceless–he was pissed.

The two acts left got through on their sob stories plain and simple. The sister singers were amateurish and mediocre. And I’m sorry but I still do not get flipping KITE FLYING as a stage act.

I wish they would have just changed the rules on the spot and brought Antonio back. But can you imagine the outcry? Actually, I don’t have to imagine. After I said I “hated” the cystic fibrosis girls on twitter a few weeks ago, I was twitter bombed by a bunch of humorless peeps from the CF community. Yeah. One of them called me a f****** fa***tt, completely oblivious to the inherent contradiction therein…

But I digress!  The judges had to choose between two acts that should have been going home. Piers expressed his disappointment that Antonio was eliminated before he reluctantly chose  Christina and Ali.  Howie picked Connor  Doran the kite guy. And after some hemming and hawing, Sharon chose Christina and Ali.

So…yeah. Uhm. Christina and Ali for the win?

So, here are the acts moving on to the Top 10.  The 2nd part of the semi-finals take place next week.

Anna & Patryk
Michael Grimm
Prince Poppycock
Taylor Mathews
Christina and Ali

I agree with you, MJ. Grimm is a talented vocalist. Poppycock is interesting…though I think his vocals are mediocre. So are Mathews’. Christina and Ali are cute girls, but their voices are very amateurish, and they made because of their sob story alone. Out of those final three, Antonio should have made it. Anna and Patrick are good dancers, but I don’t see the appeal in watching kids do ballroom dancing when adults can do a better job actually exhibiting the sensuality and chemistry needed in many ballroom dances.

I will admit that I don’t understand some of America’s choices, but maybe it’s because I’ve never visited Vegas.

For me, the acts that should have made it through are:
    Ascendance
    ArcAttack
    Prince Poppycock
    Antonio Restivo
    Connor Doran

I found all of these acts stimulating, interesting and different. I have no idea why the horrendous vocalists are making it through, but maybe that’s what Vegas is all about. If so, I’m glad I haven’t visited there.

If I were going to Las Vegas to watch a show, the only one I can honestly say IMO would do well is Prince Poppycock. He is so entertaining, theatrical, and just a lot of fun to watch. Michael Grimm is a very talented soulful singer but Las Vegas is not the right place for him. I take back what I said earlier too. Antonio Restivo also entertaining, theatrical, etc would have been perfect for Las Vegas if we didn’t have to put up with the sob stories that beat him out.

As far as I’m concerned, Antonio, Connor, Christina& Ali should all
    have gone home.
I couldn’t stomach Antonio from his 1st audition, with his blubbering and whinging about his need and destiny, and that all is
lost if he doesn’t get this.
Christina and Ali, at least, had a credible backstory, but they were
weak singers, and I sure do give them props for trying out, and
putting themselves out there, and bringing attention to systic fibrosis.
Connors Kite flying to music was actually beautiful, and artfully
interpreted by his music and his soul….Yet he is NOT suitable for
a full vegas show! Taylor has some song writing talent and might fly with autotune, but is a little weak in charisma.

The rest of them, imo, were the best of the night, and good luck to
them all,…Well, at least good luck to Poppycock and Michael Grimm, who have the talent that deserves the monetary investment. As far as the kiddie dancers go, they are very good but I’m with Howie re not being age appropriate for the sensuality some of the ballroom dance requires. I think they would be better served to
continue to go to school, practice their dancing and compete in
regionals, nationals etc. They will still be great dancers when
    they are 19 or 20 yr’s old.
I would pay good money to see Prince Poppycock someday!!

I have a strange love for Prince Poppycock also. Would be fun to see his show. His vocals have been very good, just Wed. nite they fell short while running all over the stage. Maybe he show talk to Adam HE! PP is so interesting, I like just watching him. When he is in is Normal? self he is a different person than the one he is on the stage. I really would like to see more of his life.

Very sad to see America vote in three singers for the five picked. next week looks like 2 more with the young opera singer and maybe Alice Tann-the actresses mother. This is not a singing competition-it’s supposed to be a Vegas Act. Only Poppycock out of this group could do that.
I’m going to have to stop watching if this happens every year. At least the group that I liked that came in third last year behind 2 SINGERS made it to Vegas.
I hate that they put the 2 best magicians together next week as I love them both-hope one makes it.
Come on America-the 2 girls aren’t even close to a Vegas Act-neither is Taylor Matthews or the young dancers.
I hope the voters step it up and put some glitzy great acts through next week or this is going to be who has the best “story”-not America’s Got Talent and can headline an act in Vegas.
    So disappointed.

Part of the problem is that the “prize” (Vegas Act) doesn’t really fit in with the voters. The public is picking the act they like and not everyone wants a Vegas Act.

The only act I’ve seen in all of this that I could stand to watch for more than a set or two is Michael Grimm. The rest would be fun as part of a mixed show.

I too have a strange affection for PP – though if he is going to run about he may need taped vocals…

Got to admit this show is getting to be a bit much – I’ve stopped watching IRL completely and can see all I need in about 5 minutes…

Basically the producer wanted Michael Grimm and Pronce Poppycock to sail smoothly to final. Thats why there are so many weak acts in first SF. Like from the 4 magicians, Antonio and the fake arm magician are the weakest. The producers stacked the deck so people will votes for them cause most of other acts had very flat performances.

And this time beside Antonio R , public had voted right. Michael G, Prince P, Patrick & Anna, Taylor are the best of the first SF week.

The winner of this year AGT will be another singer.

  • hcpoirot

On next week SF, I had to feel bad for non singers contestants. Cause 3 finalists spot probably already had 3 singers name in it. Nathaniel, Alice and the kid singer will have very good chance into the final. They just need to sing okay and not mess it up big time.

So other performers will probably fight for the left 2 spots. 2 magicians, the bike acts, Defying Gravity, the dance group act had to try their hardest.

In a sense singing acts were much easier. All they had to do is choosing the right song and sing. Acts like dancing, magic and others had to think of different acts, had to be better than before or they will get buzz from the judges.

But thats it how the life roll.

Season 4 finale 10 acts were: 6 singers , 2 dance acts, 1 stand up comedian and 1 music act.

This year will not be that different too. At least 6 or 7 singers will bein the finale.

  • hcpoirot

I forgot to add, from last night result, the guest star from season 4 is not the winner last year (the farmer singer Kevin Skinner who so off key in the final but still win cause he sing) but Recycled Percussion who place third last year.

These 4 guys who make in to last year final but didnot win now had a show in Vegas. Their act is so much better now. And very suitable for Vegas act.

It show that you didnot need to win to have a career in Vegas.

FYI, Kevin Skinner release an album this year and didnot even chart in Billboard 200 in first week sales. So who is voting for him last year?
