Lucy Hale, Ella Henderson, Julianne Hough, Heidi Klum, Mary Lambert,  Danica McKellar, Pat Monahan, Pentatonix,  and Meghan Trainor are a few of the presenters.

***

*Carrie Underwood won Favorite Female Country Artist. She wasn’t in attendance to accept her award.

And we don’t waste ANY TIME! Taylor Swift opens the show with a performance of “Blank Space. She kinda recreates her chaotic music video on stage:  Knocking a guy out, setting roses on fire. The usual. The backing track is STRONG ON THIS ONE, which is probably a good thing.  I wonder what Harry Styles, backstage preparing for his performance with One Direction, is thinking (’cause the song is supposedly about him)! Also. FULL OF TAYLOR SURPRISE FACE.  She should save that for when she gets the Dick Clark award later.

The ubiquitous Pitbull takes the stage! Please don’t tell jokes. Whoops he is. ‘With three names. They should pay me triple.” and “not all Latinos are Mexican.” Oy. Of course, the obligatory Obama immigration joke. “We can all stay!” Shut up, Pitbull.

From Grey’s Anatomy…Patrick Dempsey presents the first award.  Favorite Pop Rock Group goes to One Direction! It’s their 3rd award altogether.  MASSIVE MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ALL THEIR CRAZY FANS.

Phillip Phillips commercial for Ram Trucks featuring clips from his “Unpack Your Heart” Music Video! Keep getting that promo dude!

The Fault of Our Stars star, Ansel Elgort, introduces Charli XCX who sings her hit “Boom Clap” from the soundtrack. She’s wearing a light blue pretty princess gown…and sunglasses.  Too cool for school!  Oh. She rips that off to reveal a skimpy black leather midriff baring number and suddenly things get way hotter as she launches into “Break The Rules.”  Everyone tomorrow will be talking about her smokey eye!  Woah. That leather clad rabbit has his face in Charli’s crotch. Charming.

Matthew Morrison and Rita Ora introduce Magic! and Wyclef Jean.  Wyclef starts off center stage, on acoustic guitar, before Magic joins him to duet on the band’s hit “Rude.”  Did Magic! show up for any of the rehearsals? This is a freaking mess.  Wyclef is managing to keep it together the best he can. They wend their way through the audience, and it’s pretty awkward.

Pitbull introduces Jamie Foxx. (Before, he cracks a stupid joke about fugly girls and instagram filters. Ugh.)  Aw. Jamie has his adorable daughter with him. He hands out the Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Album to Iggy Azalea. Adorable daughter announced it. Iggy is the leader in noms this year, with six! It’s the first award Iggy has ever won “in her entire life.” She really is moved. The mic stand is so low, she has to bend to talk into it. She’s tall!

Gavin DeGraw and Becky G. are next. They introduce 5 Seconds of Summer who sing “What I Like About You.” Bringing a classic tune to a new generation! Can’t go wrong with the Romantics.

And now…It’s Kelly Clarkson for Citizen Watch! All American Idol appearances tonight will be via commercial spots.

Enrique Iglesias won for Favorite Latin Artist, Pitbull informs us.

Some actresses from the Walking Dead introduce  Imagine Dragons. They premiere their brand new single, “I Bet My Life.”  This  clappy tune has been featured on a commercial. So hardly new. HARDLY NEW. I’m already sick of it.

Taylor Schilling and Uzo Aduba from Orange is the New Black crack prison jokes as they READ RIGHT OFF A SHEET OF PAPER to introduce the Favorite  Male Pop Rock nominees.  Sam Smith wins!  Sam keeps it short because “I’m awful at speaking in public.” He thanks his fanbase. “I wrote an album about being lonely…but tonight I couldn’t feel further from lonely.”  Aw.

Glee star, Dianna Agron and Castle’s Nathan Fillion are next. Dianna starred in the beautiful music video for “I’m Not the Only One,” which Sam and rapper, ASAP Rocky, take the stage to sing. A lovely and soulful performance from Sam, as usual. Didn’t LOVE the rap bridge, though.

T.I is next and gives a little speech about how women CAN DO HIP HOP. Well, thanks for that bulletin, T.I!  He introduces Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX to sing “Fancy/Beg For It.”  And here we go with the first major bleeps of the night! Iggy’s got a jungle gym theme going here.

Jhene Aiko  and Meghan Trainor present Favorite Country Male Artist to Luke Bryan. SORRY BLAKE SHELTON. First guy to thank God. This is his third win.

Hunger Games actress, Elizabeth Banks introduces Lorde, up next to premiere “Yellow Flicker Beat” from the Hunger Games movie.  Lorde begins the performance in an orange yellow box. Looks claustrophobic. The walls rise and she takes the stage.  IT’S A POST APOCALYPTIC WORLD Y’ALL.  Actually, this is a pretty compelling performance. Go Lorde.  Oh look. It’s BFF Taylor Swift in the audience rocking out.  LORDE IS WORKING THE HAIROGRAPHY.  Ohh she smears her lipstick for the big dramatic finish. But then, she breaks out into a huge grin. She’s just playin!

We move seamlessly to Ariana Grande who sings a jazzy piano driven version of “Problem.”  She’s backed by some tasty sax. She’s sticking to a smooth jazz vibe as she shifts into “Break Free.”  Here come the beats on “Love Me Harder.” The Weekend joins her.  The arrangement has a 70’s vibe and I am loving this.

Jenny McCarthy and hubby, Donnie Wahlberg take the stage. She reminds Donnie that he won this upcoming award TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO when he was a member of New Kids on the Block. “Boy bands were kicking ass then, and they’re kicking ass now,” he says.  Best Pop Rock Album goes to One Direction for Midnight Memories.  It’s their 2nd AMA tonight and 4th overall.  More MASSIVE THANK YOUS. They thank the song writers and again THE BEAUTIFUL FANS.

That Miss America chick, the one with the cups, introduces Pitbull & Ne-Yo who perform a medley of hits including “Don’t Stop the Party”  “Fireball” and “Time of Our Lives.”  PENTATONIX IN THE HOUSE.  Ruined by a shot of  Big Brother alum, Frankie Grande. PLZ GET OFF OF MY TV SCREEN.

Some Kardashian idiots are next.  Again PLZ GET OFF MY TV SCREEN. They present the Favorite Female Pop Rock Artist to Katy Perry, who is on tour in Australia. The singer accepts her award (THANKS KATY KATS!) via satellite.

Danica McKellar and Brantley Gilbert present Favorite Alternative Rock Artist to Imagine Dragons. They won the category last year. NONE of these artists up for the award are alt rock, if you ask me.

Mary Lambert and Lucy Hale introduce the debut performance of “The Heart Wants What it Wants” ‘by Selena Gomez. OMG IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BIEBZ.  This song should be renamed. “Yep. I know I’m an Idiot.” Seriously, I hope she’s over that asshat. She’ll look back on it all and laugh some day. Maybe. Emotional vocal from Selena. She’s near tears at the end. She mouths “Thank you Jesus.” For getting me away from that loser?   Shot of BFF, Taylor Swift, all emotional too, in the audience.

Julianne Hough and her terrible hairdo present New Artist of the Year to…5 Seconds of Summer. Good job fans!

Olivia Munn and Pat Monahan presents Favorite Rap/Hip Hop artist to Iggy Azalea.  It’s the second award for her tonight. “I did not think I’d win again,” says Iggy.

Kate Beckinsale is in the house to introduce some “British boys.”  Guess who! One Direction perform “Night Changes.”  The boys croon against a backdrop of fields and a big ole moon. They really don’t do harmonies, but the lead vocals are on point. Honestly, a lovely performance.

Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross (Blackish) introduce Lil Wayne and Christina Milian. BLEEPS GALORE.  Next, it’s Nicki Minaj and Skylar Grey getting all down and emotional on “Bed of Lies.”  OOPS ABC MISSED BLEEPING A F*CK. They’ll fix it for the West Coast.

Aw. A clip of Dick Clark and Diana Ross serves as an introduction to the legend. She is really really excited about being here! Clark’s widow is sitting in the audience.  Diana talks about how he made so many careers possible.  She’s there to present the first Dick Clark Award of Excellence to Taylor Swift, who hugs all of her besties, Lorde, Selena et. al before she takes the stage with her best SURPRISE FACE! She’s so blown away to receive an award from Diana Ross, whom she thanks for standing up for herself when it wasn’t popular. Dick Clark was a visionary, she says.  SHE LOVES HER FANS. SHE BAKES THEM COOKIES. And thanks her fans for buying her album, rather than stealing it. Taylor can’t resist taking another shot at the streamers.

Josh Duhamel introduces his WIFE  Fergie. She also make really cute babies! He says about his favorite Cali girl. She sings “LA Love (La La)” What is she promoting, exactly? A bit of a wardrobe malfunction when she took her jacket off near the end.  She’s trying a little too hard.

Luke Bryan is back on stage to introduce the token Country Music performance, from Garth Brooks! He’s performing live from a concert stage in Greensboro North Carolina. He sings a new song, the cheesy, “People Loving People.” At least it’s not that smarmy song about the unborn baby taking to God, or whatever. This is barely a country song, to be honest.

X Factor alum, Ella Henderson, and Aloe Blacc take the stage! They introduce Mary J. Blige, who sings her Sam Smith co-write “Therapy.”  This is pretty awesome.  Very Amy Winehouse, may she rest in peace.

SHARKS IN THE HOUSE! I love Shark Tank. The trio present Favorite Country Album to Brantley Gilbert for Just As I Am.

WHOOOOO PENTATONIX YAY they introduce one of the big performances of the night: Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande and Jesse J performing “Bang Bang.”  A burst of energy and gold lame! Lorde and Taylor Swift WIG OUT.  Lorde’s hair is a thing of beauty. Shot of hanger on and fame whore Frankie Grande waving from the audience.

HI AGAIN PHILLIP PHILLIPS.

Heidi Klum is on stage to present Artist of the Year to One Direction! WHOOOOO. It’s their 5th AMA. 3rd tonight!  Good going boys! Simon must be proud.

It’s time for the LAST performance! Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Lopez are about to show off their big big “Booty.”  How much soft core porn are they going to get away with? Some. Not enough to make the performance controversial. That Jlo is quite the fancy dancer.

That was a pretty tame and ordinary end to an event that typically tries to push the envelope. I predict there won’t be much talk around the old water cooler tomorrow. This year’s AMAs were OK, but lacked unforgettable moments.
