Well. I didn’t see THIS coming! I was expecting music at some point from Season 10 American Idol alum, Paul McDonald, but instead, he’s following in the footsteps of his wife, actress, Nikki Reed, and entering the acting world.

TV Line is reporting that Paul has joined the cast of Parenthood for a multi-episode arc.

The singer-songrwiter will play a musician who uses Crosby and Adam’s recording space, The Luncheonette, and promptly catches the eye of the studio’s new assistant, Amber (Mae Whitman).

I was wondering what was up when Paul tweeted this on Tuesday, “Had a great time on the set of @nbcparenthood Such an amazing cast and crew! Thanks for having us! http://fb.me/KOCiXZ8m

Paul really has gone all Hollywood on us!

Parenthood‘s fourth season premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 11 on NBC.

Hmm… the S10 Alumni sure are busy… with Scotty, Lauren, Haley, Casey, Pia, Stefano, James, Naima with record delas with Jacob possibly getting one with the help of Gladys Knight, now Paul is going to do an acting skit for a show that is also shown here in the Philippines. No wonder this is my favorite season, they are all wonderful for some reason, getting opportunities wherever they go, hehe. Wonder what Thia is doing? She and Jessica are close, so wonder if they would have a concert together, or even have a web cast (they are YouTube artists) showing their adventures together.

This news makes sense to me.  I always found Paul to be telegenic.  He’s got the looks of a character actor – I can see him playing the musician or the drifter. PS – love Parenthood, excellent choice for him, he has the quirky-seriousness to fit right into that set.
