Yep, about 9. I’ll be trying to follow Obama’s as well, If I can stay up that is. I’m rather tired tonight.

  • Squirrely

We didn’t have Vada or Mrs B last night. And I don’t think Luv will be here tonight.

  • adamland

Hi all, just caught up on the Reading concert, Idol Headlines thread and the 2012 thread. Whew! what a reading day this has been.

Seems like an iffy cellcast tonight.

I think more and more people are starting to take a step back during this last week of concerts. BB Luvie has homework and an early bed time.

Yup I live in Buffalo and had gone to the Rochester concert (front row seats too) so I thought I would just check out Ticketmaster for the hell of it…low and behold my night is made!

  • NewFan

I think Caro said she was driving to Wilkes-Barre last night. Two concerts in a row? Very lucky.

Wilkes-Barre sounds like something that requires hospitalization. I wonder if we will hear about more ambulances tonight.

  • http://www.wholisticbirthways.net austinmidwife

Oh, and I’m playing Scrabble. Definitely multi-tasking. So jealous of all you people who see multiple shows. I shall attempt to enjoy vicariously and look forward to photos, re-caps, videos, all the good stuff.

I lost you all. I don’t know what happened. I lost the site.
Thought it was a retribution for thinking too much Adam- started with 2012, then Ellen , wondering if she is okay as Judge , but finally thinking ,hey she likes Adam specially rooted for him for Ring Of Fire performance- so she has to be okay. Love her show though.

Ooops back to concert – seems like some are really sick ?
And some are getting the Adam fever ? more mic stand action from others? Glitz /feathers on hair ?

Those Adam ‘fans’ dissing Danny are only reflecting badly on Adam. Adam would be so proud, only not!

    Who was dissing Danny?

Oh, not here, on Twitter in the coveritlive thing.

    Were they really Adam fans?

  • NewFan

I always get a bit nervous when I hear that Adam has been dancing with a boa but I notice, gratefully, that he has yet to drape one around his shoulders or wrap one around his neck. Maybe on his second or third solo tour…

    – Is TPTB really obliging them to come out for AP and M&G.? We have seen a lot of idols skipping this lately like Anoop, Lil, Megan, etc. but we only question Adam if he doesn’t come out. So I don’t think TPTB is forcing them.

And sorry to hear that about Kris, I do really hope he skips the AP and barricades, he did last night, he needs to do it again. Probably didn’t do the afternoon barricades, also good. It’s his turn to do press tomorrow, but hopefully he can skip out on that as well and just do the shows until he is feeling better. Or at least well enough to do well vocally. He has to take care of himself and voice for the next leg of his career, which starts almost immediately after the tour, if the latest news is to believed.

  • EveLambert

Isn’t the weather that part of the country cooling off at this time of the year? Anytime after Labor Day it cools off, and that’s when people get sick (flu) and so on…..any time there is a change in season/weather, Spring is another time for lots of colds and flu sickness as well, plus they are all exhausted to the max and can’t wait to get back to a routine from one spot instead of moving from city to city night after night, they must be worn out by now – didn’t someone say Lil was sick the other night too, so the girl’s bus has a sick one as well, there is no running from it – it’s all over the place. Sure they are tired as hell living out of darn suitcases and hotel rooms, sleeping on a bus for 3 months – that is a long time.

  • girlygirl

Goodnight Sunn! Hello and goodbye, Luv! You said it, BB.

Just got back from work, did a little thread hopping and now it seems all quiet on the Wilkes-Barre front. I don’t follow Danny, but I follow all the other guys and yes, they’ve commented about being sick or not feeling well (except Adam). It seems to all be crashing down on them now.

Reception might have been bad too. I’ve been there.

Haven’t heard of Danny, Scott or Adam – they had their share already, Danny and Adam were sick once before at around the 25th show, Scott seems to have a strong immune system somewhat – no one never mentioned he was sick at anytime during the tour so far. Megan was sick sometime ago too, Allison had to go to the doc at one point, not sure if she was sick or just check up or something, but Lil was sick someone mentioned last night she was short of breath and hoarse….. hang in there guys it will soon be over, just hang tight, keep warm and drink lots of hot teas (peppermint) would be a great choice.

I think these guys are just too tired. I really applaud Kradison who have to do this kind of 24/7 thing. I don’t think Kris’ sickness has to do with his voice. He needs a lot of rest and I’m glad they have a couple of days off. He needs his wife around at this moment. Kathy where are you? He has skipped about 3-4 M&G which is good and I don’t think it’s very bad as people are implying. He might just want not to stress himself too much and keeping things on the cool to be able to make it through the rest of the tour. And the fans are really sending him good tweets like this:

Sure! Glad I could help. I’ve seen at least one WLL, SL, SR and Bowie video from every show at least once. MW, only the good ones. Pathetic, I know, but I really do adore that man. Well that’s dumb. I mean nice of Kris with the fans, blah blah blah, but vocally he had issues tonight. What he needs to do is rest as much as possible so that tomorrow night he can give as good a performance during the show, that people actually paid to see him do well in, do well in. Not to mention, dude, if you’re sick, stop spreading germs.

I really like Kris, but dude…bad move.

Oh and clearone, don’t look at the video if you don’t want to. Not your cuppa, than that’s cool. And frankly I don’t thing anything interesting or sexy about it. I don’t mind it, because Adam finds it amusing, so I find it funny for that, but it does absolutely nothing for me.

The next day off, is their last one, this Friday, they have shows until then and then until the 15th.

The last four shows will all be easy rides from Boston except for the one in Syracuse. That will be about a five hr bus ride each way. As worn out as they all are now, AI should spring for flight tickets for that trip.

I think we are over exagerrating about Kris’ sickness over here. The guy is old enough to know when he’s well or not. I believe he tweeted earlier today because his fans were bombarding him with tweets about his whereabouts. If I’m right he said he had been sick for a couple of days. He might be okay now and with that tweet, peeps at the concert will be looking out for every little possible thing to link to him being sick.
He skipped the buses those days he didn’t feel well and I don’t think he did it earlier today. I personally think it’s fatigue on his part and nothing else. Germs? no, i don’t think they’ll even put any of the guys with him if it were something on that line. Not dancing during DSB means nothing to me and I don’t believe anything people tweet!

THe demands for him to look, smile etc were 10x more than when I was at the Auburn Hills show. I love being able to see these guys close up, but the whole barricade thing is a bit brutal.

I always get a bit nervous when I hear that Adam has been dancing with a boa but I notice, gratefully, that he has yet to drape one around his shoulders or wrap one around his neck. Maybe on his second or third solo tour’ ¦

Errr, actually he did…. I didn’t take pics today since I wanted to enjoy, but I met by chance another MJ commenter and we were sitting next to each other, she got a great pic…

Is that the first time you have watched a Heartless video? Just curious.

Kind of. I normally can’t sit through them, but I’ve seen the beginning of a few. I’ve never heard that long-ass pointless note. I was impersonating him earlier, and did the “better than… MEHHHHHHHH” thing as a joke. But he does it! For real! LOL!

I hope TPTB let Kris and whoever else is genuinely sick skip the AP and the M&G so they can go straight to the bus and lie down (or at least lie down backstage until they are ready to leave).

They were there, not only were they there but they did it because they wanted to, specially Kris and Michael, Anoop left early.

They are really appreciative of the fans and they would not do that to them… they also went to the barricades or basically ran through them… even Kris… I have a new found respect for these guys.

Hope Noopy is alright. (in addition to everyone else BUT ANOOP ESPECIALLY)

Caro will give us the deets, I’m sure.

Hey girl!!! sorry I couldn’t give you a shout out tonight… I had literally no reception it was very difficult for me so at some point I gave up!

Anoop is fine or he seems fine, based on my medical exam made to the idols:

Adam: Very fine, not sick not symptoms…
Kris: Very sick needs rest, tea and some hugging… when we asked him how he was he said, I’m OK, there were three of us and by the third I said, come on Kris you don’t have to say it and he said, you’re right, I feel like crap, I’m not sure if he used the word crap but I was just thinking in the hugging part at that time…
Matt: is recovering and actually with all the kissing and hugging I did these past two days I might get sick too :)
Anoop: Seemed fine, no different from another day… even though he tweeted he wasn’t feeling well, but his voice was great.
Michael: Seemed starting to get sick, voice great during the concert.
Danny: There is no bug that can get that man sick…!
Scott: Since he spends most of his time eating, I don’t think he got the sickness, all well with him.

Earlier today only Matt and Danny came out.

I agree. I really liked Heartless and ANS on Idol but both have gotten a bit odd over the course of the tour. ANS, which I really, really loved on Idol, now drives me crazy because of the endless pause he does in the beginning. My guess is that Kris is bored wtih both of these songs and trying to do something interesting with them. I really think that the highlight of his set is “Bright Lights” which give Kris the nice guitar break and doesn’t have any of this gimmicky vocal shtick. JMHO and no insult to Kris intended — I just want the Kris that I loved early in the tour to return to us — IMO that guy is starting to vanish — urgh!!!

    Ok so quick recap…

Pre-M&G only Matt and Danny came out, I have a Danny story to share in my recap :)

Two girls Manny fans had Matt and Danny write Believe on their feet, later they got a tattoo…

Concert: Michael got flowers. Megan had afro hair (it looks great in person) gave us the exclusive that tomorrow it will be mohawk-afro :-). Lil, nothing knew to report. Scott, during the pre M&G snook behind us to go to Starbucks with his Mom and Allison’s Mum. Anoop had something white on his hair, couldn’t stop looking at it. Matt he deserves a chapter on his own, but as always AMAZING! Allison, was Amazing too, got something thrown at her but I don’t know what it was. Danny sounded better than ever or maybe because it was the first time I heard him for real and changed a little bit the song for me :-) (Ok maybe I’m exaggerating but I’ll explain later) Adam, he is definitely not sick, EMO, WOMEN and BOA I now basically adore him, well more the person… :-) all the male singers getting advice from Adam on how to use the mic, specially Anoop, Danny and Michael. Matt once again he has his own moves :-) Kris needed a come to Mama hug, it’s been hot inside the arena and at the AP he’s been wearing this gray sweatshirt…. come to Mama.

AP: Believe it or not, I was there again… this time less hyped but still enjoyed it.

Overall, more than the Idol experience the people that I met priceless!!! they will forever be in my history…

  • Truthiness

He might be okay now and with that tweet, peeps at the concert will be looking out for every little possible thing to link to him being sick.
He skipped the buses those days he didn’t feel well and I don’t think he did it earlier today. I personally think it’s fatigue on his part and nothing else. Germs? no, i don’t think they’ll even put any of the guys with him if it were something on that line

Well according to Caro, and others saying he’s sick. He’s said he was sick at that AP and from the Tweets, people could tell during the concert by his voice. It sucks for him. I just wish that he was better able to say “no,” which he himself has said he has a problem with that. I agree, because he should have skipped the AP and definitely the barricades if he was feeling sick. Not the least of which is yes, it spreads germs. This isn’t a case where he has to go to work, or else, like in the real world. He could skip one full day of meeting people, and it would be okay. In fact, everyone would totally support him.

I call out my faves when they do what I consider to be boneheaded things, this time it’s Kris’s turn. Luckily for him, Adam does a lot more boneheaded moves than he does, so usually it’s not an issue.

ETA: and no, I’m not saying it’s a big deal or that Kris is evol for spreading germs. Typhoid Kris! I’m just saying, probably wasn’t the best decision.

    Sorry Clearone

It seems that Adam has, in public, danced (cheek to feather) with at least three boas. And I had no idea that it had happened even once.

I think that this means that you and I have been caught. We did not watch all the videos from all the concerts. But while you have paid your dues through a long period of devotion, I am but a NewFan and I expect to forfeit my fan club membership. I will no longer be one of Those Who Can’t Stop Talking about He Who Shall Not Be Named Too Often. It’s a sad day for me.

So, for penance, I will begin now, to review all (5×52=260) videos … with a CD release date deadline. And I hope that this will win me a second chance at a lifelong membership in the club.

Ahhh Please forgive the melodrama and silliness (it’s getting late) … but fess up … who else is paying penance with me?
This could apply to anyone who is in one of the idol (MJ) fan clubs.

Oh I disagree with this, I think. I haven’t seen any like in the past week, but I don’t think it’s changed that much and I don’t think that Kris is putting in notes unnecessarily, any more than Adam does, that’s for sure. I love my boy, but he loves to improve those runs and notes.

And I think that Kris actually has a much stronger voice in concert, from what I can tell from the YouTubes and recappers, than it seemed on the show. So I think he does have the chops to do what he attempting in concert. And I’m all for people adding flavour and shading vocally to their performances.

My issues with ANS and Heartless aren’t Kris’s vocals at all, it’s the arrangement and instrumentation. I liked the more stripped down versions of these songs from the show, so the beginning of Heartless, where it’s like the show, long note and all, really works for me. But then the band comes in and it becomes to soft rock for me. Same for ANS, though I think that holds up better because it’s a prettier, stronger song than Heartless could ever dream of being.

  • Tess

I guess he’s just getting tired of singing the same songs every night.

If we really analyze this comment and sentiment it is the perfect answer for the lethargy that is perplexing the Idols now…but if any of them are tired of their songs after 47 performances they aren’t going to find life any easier after Idol is over and they are promoting a song or touring on their own.

Singing to promote a song may entail doing it every day for weeks on end, and then singing it for a 100 or so concerts (see David Cook) and if its a real hit singing it for the next 25 years (see Neil D., Bruce S., Elton J., etc.).

So, if the idols are bored with their song list on the tour they are going to have a hard time adjusting to “real life” in the music industry. And they can’t use the excuse that it will be easier when its their own music or they have more to sing…there will always be 3 or 4 songs that everyone wants to hear everytime and they will be forced to sing.

So no excuses….A great performer should strive to be as good at every performance as they can be. Letting down, or giving a half-ass show is unforgivable for any performer. They are getting paid the big bucks to do a great job everytime…so they all need to just suck it up and do it. And if they don’t there will always be another newbie breathing down their neck to take their place.

  • alison8701

That is exactly why I appreciate Adam more every day. He brings a fresh approach each performance even if he is not feeling well or totally exhausted. He was also very smart in picking his set so he could tear it up, sing slow, tear it up and have fun, and just plain have fun and dance. He can improvise and make it new and different for him to perform each time. It also shows just how well he can change a song on a dime and still deliver it.

And I am afflicted with a crazy addiction to Adam, and weirdly enough, this blog. Go figure.

There are many videos out there not worth slogging through, but alas, most nights there has been at least one person in the audience that managed to capture Adam at his finest.

No problem with the melodrama. I help women have babies and I have teenage girls. Three of them. My life is melodrama.

Just got back from Wilkes-Barre. Looked over some of the later comments, but too tired to really read anything.

I was on the floor, 12th row, center aisle. Great seats. I may have pics, but I’ll have to see if they came out.

Definitely an Adam crowd. After “Heartless”, people started sitting down. After “All These Things”, most everyone I could see was sitting. There was noticeably less cheering. There wasn’t a mass exodus or anything, but I did see a few small groups leave. At one point, someone in back was hollering “down in front” because some people stood up again during “Hey Jude.” Also, during Kris’s set, I did hear some jerk calling “Adam! Bring Adam back!”

I had a great time, and enjoyed most of the performances. Glad I went.

  • Truthiness

I guess he’s just getting tired of singing the same songs every night

Keeping my Kris hat on, I don’t see that he’s tired at all about singing the songs. He’s always jumping around, really into them and passionate, from what I can see of the YouTubes and yeah, from most recappers. Maybe he hasn’t as much the last few days, but he’s been battling sickness, it seems. Totally natural not to be as peppy when sick.

And other than that, he still looks totally passionate about performing every song that I see him in. So I have to disagree with Kris somehow being bored.

I think he’s just trying to change things up with his singing, experiment. And that’s good. Like the rest of the idols, this kind of performing, the amount of it, the size of the venues, is all very new for them, so he’s learning as he goes along. And that’s what I think is more reflected in his singing. Not boredom or unnecessary notes. And again, I think he has the vocal chops to carry off what he’s doing, just fine.

i usually like you and your snarky self allison, but i think you’re way off with this one. why is anything necessary? why does allison feel the need to flap around the stage like a headless chicken during crybaby? why does adam need to stroke his microphone? why does anoop need to slide down on his knees? why does scott need to tell blind jokes? i can go on and on. whatever they feel like doing on a particular night, more power to them.

I knew someone was going to mention me saying it wasn’t necessary. Poor word choice, sure. But I just painted my nails and I’m pecking at the keyboard.. so…? no? well. Have you watched the video from grand rapids? The note is just pointless and just not very good.

“That is exactly why I appreciate Adam more every day. He brings a fresh approach each performance even if he is not feeling well or totally exhausted. He was also very smart in picking his set so he could tear it up, sing slow, tear it up and have fun, and just plain have fun and dance. He can improvise and make it new and different for him to perform each time. It also shows just how well he can change a song on a dime and still deliver it.”

Yes, yes!! Me too. It’s why I must have videos with my morning tea. I guess there’s enough of them that I can go back through the entire series, after the tour ends, every morning, for almost two months and review his performances, slowly. You know, savor them till the new stuff shows up in Nov.

So Adam is not sick but didn’t come out to the barricades? Such a diva!

I don’t think so… he has a long, long, long line at the AP he leaves almost last, he gets asked to pose, to move to jump, to take pics, to hug more than any other idol and he does it all with patience.

Yesterday was the same thing and he still went out after the AP.

Today what I think is that they needed to leave so he didn’t have the chance, they were rushing all the idols thru the barricades and for the tweets that I saw, they were off to their next stop even before I left the place!

Okay, vocally? not the best and yeah, it was a bit…dramatic. But hey! he’s improvising and shading, so he’s, I think he’s going for an effect here. Sometimes that works for people, sometimes it doesn’t. As someone whose fave definitely embraces vocal effect, I’m not going to get my knickers in a twist about someone making a note a skoosh longer. The only thing I would say, and again be forced to agree with, it was vocally a little weak at time. He had some strain in there, more than once. But this was just a few days ago, right? He could have been fighting sickness then.

What the hell? So Adam is great when he changes up his performances to try and keep them fresh, but Kris isn’t allowed to? That’s ridiculously unfair. They are performing the same songs 50+ times during this tour, and are likely sick to death of them right about now. Any of the Idols should be allowed to change their interpretations rather than allowing them to become stale. And there has never been anything fake about Kris’ performances. He isn’t holding that note in Heartless to try and show off, he’s doing it as part of his interpretation of the song (the audience seems to love it when he draws out this note, BTW, judging from the screams I hear on the Youtube videos). But even if he were doing it to try and show off, why shouldn’t he be allowed to? Adam does a lot of tricks to show off his vocals, and everybody raves about those. Matt throws in a bunch of runs in his songs — don’t hear anyone complaining about those, either. Danny does a lot of vocal gymnastics, too. ALL of those guys have thrown in far more “unnecessary” notes in their sets at times during this tour than Kris ever has. And if there is a bum note or two heard — horrors! I have heard bum notes from all of the Idols during this tour — NO ONE has been perfect vocally. It happens and it isn’t the end of the world — nor does it mean they shouldn’t attempt that note or phrasing again. If they continue to struggle with it over the course of a few concerts, chances are they will drop the idea soon enough.

EDIT: I just watched the video — wasn’t a damn thing wrong with that note at :31 as far as I could tell — I’m no expert, but it sounded on key to me. It was drawn out, but so what? And did you bother to hear the audience response? They loved it…

First of all. No one said Kris wasn’t allowed to change it up. It’s just be preferable that he, you know.. did it well. Sorry. That note is stupid and gratuitous. It’s not very good and it’s just there to be there. Kris isn’t the strongest vocally, so he should stick to what he’s good at.. (????)

and I haven’t heard a bum note from Anoop.

Kris is all about falsifying, in my opinion. He tries to elicit reactions. That’s why he does Hey Jude, and asks people to sing along. Like with All These Things.

As simon would say, Kris’ performance of Heartless was indulgent.

    the note is lame.

Adam’s performance yesterday and today was just awesome and amazing… he didn’t let the crowd down and everybody stood up the whole set… earlier tonight we were at the second row and people were asking us to sit down… ain’t going to happen!

I met Adam yesterday and the AP, you can read the comments in the thread he was soooooo nice… and gorgeous, today when he saw me he said nice to see you again, so with all the fans that he gets I can’t believe he remembered and he made my night super special… and I feel so seduced by his stare… the good thing is that I like him but I can still have a conversation with him, not like with Matt or Kris… I will share some things for sure, but for now, I’m so tired…. last night I went to bed at 4am and today I hope to not pass 2am…

I do think that one can be realistic and disagree with what “most people are saying”. Especially when it comes to opinions about what one likes and dislikes. I like rootbeer. moving on, question for anybody at the recent concerts: how has matt’s “you found me” been holding up lately? it got some rough reviews early on, but it’s not being dissed as much. that’s the one song in his set i have apprehension about seeing live. so pumped to see it all soon.

  • Chipmunk

So I guess nothing epic happened at last night’s concert?

5-6 or more shows and they’re done! Really good times

  • alison8701

If you’re changing a song for the better, that’s great but when you make it worse such as Kris did with that note, not so great. It fact, I was shocked when I listened to that song just now. Instead of improving over the course of this concert, Kris has gotten worse. That performance was really horrible. Looks like the only commenter on there didn’t like it either.

Yeah.. and each time I listen to it, the note seems to get longer and more ridiculous.

If I were a Kris fan, I’d want him to stop. Alright kid, you tried to switch it up, and it didn’t work. It’s okay. Anoop does a really bad-sounding note in “Mad”, and.. sure, I admire him trying to switch things up, but it doesn’t sound good.

You have hated on Kris every chance you get…it seems to be your goal in life to try and put him down. Like you’ve said in the past, the rules of this board allow you to make rude comments about any of the Idols, and you seem determined to do that with Kris. And your opinion is your opinion — I obviously disagree with it, you obviously aren’t going to change it no matter how much I might want you too. So, whatever. But to call him fake is just so wrong, it’s not even funny — fake is the farthest thing Kris has ever been. You seem oblivious to the heart and soul he throws into his music. No, he doesn’t have the best technically pure voice among this group of Idols — he himself has said that many times. But so what? There are a lot of very successful musicians with less than technically perfect or pure voices. In fact, technically pure voices can be quite boring. And since your dislike of Kris is blatantly obvious, please excuse me if I don’t take your opinions of him seriously.

And I’m not going LALALALA with my hands over my ears in terms of Kris. I have never said he was the best person in terms of vocal ability among this group. Nor have I said his set is perfect — I’m not a big fan of the way he does “Hey Jude”. But IMO he is the best musician of the Top 10, and he certainly does not deserved to be called a “faker”.

And if “Heartless” has become a parody of itself, the same claims could be brought against Danny’s awkward dancing, Anoop’s pelvic gyrations during My Prerogative and Adam’s microphone thrusts during WLL, Scott’s blind jokes, etc. etc. All a matter of interpretation, yes?

  • Sherena

Oh… ouch. That was a bad performance of Heartless. Just from the beginning… his voice sounded off and bit jarring. Not the smooth pretty tone he usually has. Poor bb is sick. :(

  • Truthiness

Well, if he were to ask you whether or not he should keep that nooooooooooote, what would you say?

And remember, you have the title of truthiness to uphold.

Honestly? I would say he could cut it back a bit, because I think that will allow him to hold the note and tone of his voice better. But let me say again, I do think Kris is a pretty strong singer. That he has grown a lot vocally from the beginning of the show to when the tour began. He’s ended that dino jaw as much that did have negative effects on his vocals and I think he’s grown from the beginning of the tour. Vocally and in terms of his showmanship. So maybe he’s adding some bigger notes because he’s feeling them in the rush of singing and feeling it as part of his interacting with the crowd.

And yeah, I would say, not what I would prefer from him. Just like I’m not a fan of Adam actually wearing the boas. I would hope that it’s been established that I can and will criticize my faves when I disagree with that they’re doing. So yeah, I’m not thrilled with the vocal strength of that note, but I honestly said that it wasn’t terrible, because it wasn’t terrible, though it wasn’t good. My preference? no. But my faves don’t do everything I like all the time. It’s like they’re their own people and not my puppets! Curses! foiled again. And I SOOO want my money back from that voodoo shop.

I’ll even admit the Ozzies and Kiwis are sane despite the Vegamite/Marmite love.

Well let’s not go crazy with the relativism here. That stuff is nasty and no sane person could ever like it. :P to our Aussie and Kiwi friends :)

  • http://www.wholisticbirthways.net austinmidwife

Ok, before I crash I’ve got to chime in on this “note” discussion. I tend to agree with Caro here. It’s a live show. You cannot get the energy of that show on a video or audio. It just cannot be captured. No way, no how. Crowds love improv onstage, it’s exciting. They love it when the performer stretches himself, especially if he started off as a well-loved performer.

Adam stretches himself somewhere every night. Sometimes, here and there when words run together, or he runs out of breath (rarely) it’s not so great when played back, but in the moment, the crowd goes wild!! Because it’s live and they love him! I’m glad Kris is stretching himself, working out how to hit different notes in a different way. This is the place to do it. He is loved. Mistakes will be forgiven, unless his album is crap.

In the studio, it’s a different story altogether. Someone brought up “Feelin’ Good” and that was a good comparison. Both notes are long but different for the moment.

Allright, enough pontificating for one night. Been nice chatting with you guys. ‘Night!

Hmm, maybe he watched Adam’s ‘Feeling Good’ performance on AI one too many times.

Now that was a beautiful note. It’s even more impressive on the studio recording! In fact, that recording and that long, amazing note have both been admired by the folks at DigitalDreamDoor

Agreed. THAT was a beautiful note, and it made sense in the context of the dramatic type of song that “Feeling Good” is. Just not sure that Kris should be attempting the same type of thing in “Heartless” — it doesn’t really fit the song somehow for me. As I said in my original comment, I do like Kris (and Adam, too), so it’s not a matter of my liking his singing style. I just think his recent performances of “Heartless” have been a bit overdone. Or course, YMMV!

but that’s fair. but I too can’t take anything you say seriously. You support him no matter what. Your opinions on him are meaningless. heart? I swear people confuse acoustic soft music with “heart” all the time.

I think Kris has his moments of fakeness and, well, not moments, but is perpetually mediocre.

Nice. I’m glad he lived up to your expectations as a fan. Matt was actually my biggest surprise after the show ended. I loved HtH and Georgia. Not so much the Fray song, but then again, I don’t really like the Fray. Too vanilla for me. I really hope his music career takes off. He’s an awesome performer.

  • BCU79

It’s always pretty obvious around here when there is no “gate.”

I wish Kris had stayed away from the barricades tonight. He really needs to think long-term. Guys like Anoop and Sarver have all the time in the world to rest and get well after the tour. I don’t believe the North Carolina state fair is approaching that quickly.

But as soon as the tour is over in a few days – Kris has to start promoting his single, finish recording/writing songs for his album, perform at various private functions, photoshoots, video shoot, etc. And then his schedule will really get crazy when the album is released.

I hope he focuses on resting up this next week and leaves the barricades alone for the remaining tour dates.

    from yesterday, Kris looks sick:

    http://i32.tinypic.com/254×920.jpg

He looks like hell and looks like he FEELS like hell.

IMO, he’s been getting sick since Madison. I noticed in the videos from that night he was sweating way more (and I mean profusely) than usual. If the arena is overly warm, I can usually see the other performers glistening too – but not at Madison. That was the first night I really noticed him being off vocally and his energy wasn’t as high as usual.

Since that night he’s not been hitting notes, has been sounding raspy at points, and generally looking exhausted. Honestly, the other night when we had the “ambulance gate” and Kris didn’t do after show stuff I was afraid it might be him. I hope he can take care of himself and limit his activities until he feels better.

and I agree!! The place in “Life on Mars” where he walks his fingers? On video, it’s OTT, but at the show, it seemed totally OK, like the song needed that acting in it. But on camera, over and over and over, well, sometimes I just skip right to Fame and Let’s Dance because that’s always fun and always a little different. And yeah, maybe he is a little ridiculous sometimes. At least he knows it.

But yeah, we’ll keep it quiet. It’s god knows what time where you are and 2 AM where I am. There aren’t many that will see our blasphemous comments. Rest easy…

Oh, Kris does look sick in that picture. :( I hope he feels better soon–it would be nice if he could enjoy the end of the tour. And hopefully he and Adam (and Allison) will have a couple of days at least to rest. Really looking forward to hearing his single soon and Adam’s single (and the 2012 song, which I guess is a different song?) in a month or so.

That Starlight video is unusually pretty–it captures the roundness of his tone on that song a bit more than most recordings of that song.

Of course, he could just be playing to the back of some very big rooms and YouTube blows it up even more or it could be what he said in his Idolotry interview ‘ ¦ ‘sometimes I’m just a bit ridiculous’

I definitely think that Adam is ridiculous and sometimes does more “kabuki-like” (as that nicely observant recapper said earlier), purposefully exaggerated performances that definitely may or may not be to everyone’s taste. If you’re talking about the Bowie Medley or WLL when you say that, there has been general agreement, I think, that those songs are clearly geared towards the whole of the stadium and people who thought those performances too OTT on youtube say they work perfectly live–but that’s just one opinion, and there could be others, so no need to whisper about anything. :)

At first it was a little rough but over time she has smoothed it out just like Noopy does.

Alison, I bow down and learn from you. I’m learning that, sometimes, it’s delicious to be a little bit almost mean and wicked.

    *snicker*

Oh no.. I’m corrupting the once sweet fans of AI!

[a little bit of snark is good for the soul! lightens the mood.. learn not to take things so seriously. Sometimes, I get too offended at the stuff people say, but it’s easier just to laugh.]

Well, shoot.. I had no idea people had opinions on me.

I do remember one person trying to figure out who ~exactly I was a fan of, because I was too equal opportunity. I dont know if that’s always a good thing though.

but I do appreciate that despite my sometimes slightly not-so positive comments about some of the idols, adam especially, y’all still accept me. Y’all could have ran me out months ago.

Yikes on the Hey Jude. Kris’s voice was shot in the beginning and he looked exhausted! He was gutting that performance out. poor bb. He needs to rest. And yeah, there was some Kradison looks exchanged at about :41 that I saw as well Cheetara86. And I thought that Adam was looking soliticiously at Kris for a lot of that. And of course, the pat on his back at the end. Awww.

And Kris did the AP and Barricades after that? Silly boy. He needs to take care of his body and voice first and foremost.

If the test of true fanhood is clear-sighted objectivity and honesty shared in a light of love and optimism yada yada yada then’ ¦

I’m going to say this in a very very little whispery voice:

I think that, sometimes, Adam overacts (just a sckooch )(now and then) and, at times, it gives me some hurry-quick-look-away-moments’ ¦

Of course, he could just be playing to the back of some very big rooms and YouTube blows it up even more or it could be what he said in his Idolotry interview ‘ ¦ ‘sometimes I’m just a bit ridiculous’

‘ ¦ but (still whispering) ‘ ¦ if we could, I’d appreciate it, if we could just keep this, between you and me.

**O.K. (is a raspy, whipering voice)** Hey, I happen to mostly enjoy those ridiculous moments. Makes him more human in my eyes.

It was me, Alison, that was trying to find out who you like. I agree with some of the others, I didn’t get you at first, but have come to appreciate the snark, even about Adam the precious. Hell, I even explained my conscious need to think of you as a messenger of Anoop in another thread. I said
    I “ship” the ali-oop.

  • madnessinmotion

I just took the time to listen to that Michael Sarver interview and what he said about learning so much from Adam (not about music, but about people) was cool. What I liked most about it was how sincere he sounded. His openmindedness is to be commended and deserves recognition.

Kris is so often commended for his openmindedness (which is awesome) but Michael’s openmindedness comes on the heels of being from a very redneck background and very little to no exposure to people who were different. His open acknowledgement that Adam has made a big difference in the way he thinks about and accepts people really impressed me.

  • adamland

No, plain dumb boy – he has so much on his plate with only a day off in the next 6 days and then flying God knows where then to Detroit with Adam for the Ford thing then somewhere else then working on the album. I guess he will have to learn the hard way that his voice and health come first. He can’t perform without either one.

I am originally from Louisiana (New Orleans) and have redneck relatives and they would have reacted to Adam the same way Michael did at first. In fact I know this for a fact because I do have a gay cousin and he left rural Louisiana for New York as soon as he could. I am happy that he did give it a shot to get to really know Adam and seems to really have learned a life lesson along the way.

Yeah, he doesn’t have any breathing room to recover at all – except those “extras” that he should be leaving for someone else to do while he’s sick. He doesn’t HAVE to be doing those things while he’s ill.

I don’t like to be sexist, but I think Kris is a typical man when it comes to health issues. It’s not really dumb or stupidity, it’s being stubborn and refusing to accept when his health is compromised. I loved what michael Sarver had to say about Adam— and what he’s learned. He did sound absolutely sincere to me. And I do know people who have been able to shake off old misconceptions and prejudices and become better people.
Look at what the nation did– elected Barack Obama!
And I won’t try to edit this because last time I did I ended up putting myself in moderation– but I LOVE Obama. His speech was exactly what was needed.

I still have to go back and look at the vids– but I did see Slow Ride. Adam and Allison love each other. No doubt about it. In a bff, sibling type way– but it’s true love. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I agree, and that’s part of what I love about that performance: Starlight as a song is almost operatic in its intensity and moody exaggeration, and I love Adam’s gestures because they’re elegant theatricality fits that, which in turn enhances or complements the deeply felt passion of the way he sings the song. It somehow makes him seem both alien and full of intense longing, which I think makes that performance one of my favorites–it’s operatic and subtle at the same time, which is a really fascinating and moving combination.

But obviously there’s not going to be universal agreement on any one song these guys sing. :)

As for Kris: I think he’s probably singing that note the way that feels natural to him on that song at that particular moment (although poor BB does sound tired–hope he feels better soon)–I do agree though that I would personally shorten it a smidge. But vocal experimentation doesn’t always yield perfect results. :)

omg, the pointing at each other just kills me. I think Adam and Allison have crazy, awed respect for each other’s talents and real adoration of each other as people. I think that Kris and Adam have very similar, huge respect for each others’ talents and tremendous affection for each other as people. That’s part of why I love those friendships. :)

Also, I don’t think Adam and Allison ever look as purely joyful as when they’re doing that duet together. Which is understandable–being able to play off someone you like and respect that much must always be a thrill.

Good morning peeps. It was a slow concert night at Wilkes-Barre when I left last night, it didn’t improve much in my absence I see.

Just watched TheAdamBombs vids. Very cool.

Thank you Ladies, The Adam Lambert Connection Rocks!!!!

WLL was not as well sung as usual I thought. It was full of energy, but sounded a little off tune at points during the high notes. It may just be the audio, as the TALC vids, from last night seem to have pretty harsh, and what sounded like mono audio – probably has to do with the seating. At any rate, a couple of notes seemed overly sharp to my ear.

Starlight was lovely though, and Bowie and SL a lot of fun.

Kris’ Heartless was not his best. I was never a big fan of his interpretation of that song to begin with, but last night was a low point. He definitely looked ill to me. He should really rest, and try to lay off the long notes to spare his voice and lungs.

Oh well, another concert down, 6? more to go. Can’t wait for it be over.

    ETA:

I just watched Bowie. That was cool. Very free spirited, nice little changes of phrasing. He looked like he enjoyed it.

Sunn, you’re not alone in this. My first thought on viewing this WLL was “sloppy.” First time I’ve ever thought that about an adam performance. It was not my fave.

He was loose– didn’t translate well in the intensity of WLL– but was fun and charming in the other songs.

You said it perfectly Adamaloha, far better than I did. “Sloppy” is definitely the word.

It is getting very close to the end of the tour, a shift of focus is probably happening. Rather than concentrate on the moment’s performance, it very likely a case of one more down – 5, 4, 3, 2 to go. It’s understandable, after all It’s been a long summer, and their careers are just within arm’s reach.

  • Squirrely

The only song of Kris’s set that I liked was ‘Bright Lights.’ I don’t know what is up either, I agree he really seems to be a different guy now.

I loved Bright Lights in Boston, it was my favorite of his show too. I was never big on Heartless. The Killer’s song was also a lot of fun.

ETA: adamaloha – No I have not watched any videos from WB yet. I take it Adam’s flame is burning bright ;p

  • Squirrely

And if ‘Heartless’ has become a parody of itself, the same claims could be brought against Danny’s awkward dancing, Anoop’s pelvic gyrations during My Prerogative and Adam’s microphone thrusts during WLL, Scott’s blind jokes, etc. etc. All a matter of interpretation, yes?L

I’m certain SNL will have more than a few Adam skits.

  • saga

Adam was speeding on that WLL! He must have come in overcharged with energy! He is ahead of the band in several places, usually he is more sultry and laid back. Allison was a bit overenergetic the other day (or maybe we should say hyper). I guess it was Adams turn last night.

My question would be is it OTT from youtube vids or OTT from the average seat in the stadium. To me those are 2 different things.

Exactly. The lyrics themselves are “theatrical.”

    My life
    You electrify my life.
    Let’s conspire to reignite
All the souls that would die just to feel alive.

Adam is playing to an arena. He’s trained to perform to the back of the house. Hence the exaggerated gestures, the strong makeup, the vocal projection, etc. Even his diction– which is why he’s so easy to hear and understand when he acknowledges the band, while Kris can barely be heard and understood when he thanks the audience.
He didn’t do any of this at the Upright Cabaret, where the setting was intimate and the audience just a few feet away.

  • PRMari

That Slow Ride was deliciously adorable with the pointing at each other, but Adam…the “my little kid sister” introduction is a bit odd when singing this particular song. I prefer the “my friend” or “my girl” introduction.

Poor Kris looked and sounded pretty terrible in that short Hey Jude video. I bet with the boys all sick Adam would give anything to travel in the girls’ bus right now.

  • dyg1

    The Chicago reviewer says:

Second place finisher Adam Lambert was in the house, and the mere mention of his name, or the flashing image of his face on the teletron, sent the audience into a glitter-induced frenzy. Seizing the moment, Lambert began his 30 minute set with Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” and finished with a Bowie medley. His flawless vocals and seductive delivery left no doubt that he understands the full magnitude of his talent and appeal. In this entertaining army of Idols, Lambert has established himself as the Commander In Chief.</blockquote>

Hmmm I thought it was HBIC.

Regarding alison (our alison), I have always enjoyed reading her comments (even those against Adam), because she has never been ill spirited and she is very smart. When she thinks that Annop ´s non-fans could take something to be negative about him, she does it first. It is like when you fall down in a public place and you are the first to laugh out loud; so when others laugh, they are not laughing at you but with you ;-) Way to go alison!!!

AP: Believe it or not, I was there again’ ¦ this time less hyped but still enjoyed it.

Who does one have to know to get to go to the AP two nights in a row? I guess I need to ask why the need to go two nights in a row?

Clearone, I didn’t ask for them, look for them, cry for them or beg for them, for me it just happened. And it’s the best experience of my life. I will have it and treasure it for ever.

Hey, all – I was at the Wilkes-Barre show last night! Just wanted to give a brief rundown. I ran into MJer Caro last night – who is super awesome and sweet – and Happy B-day! (it was her b-day last night too!) And she officially has the best luck ever in the world, but that’s another story. Oh, and our seats were RIGHT next to each other – what a coincidence!

    Anyways, rundown on the show:

    * WOMAN!!
    * Emo-spiky-fluffy hair (how you can have both fluffy and spiky hair is beyond me, but somehow that’s what it reminded me of – same hair as DC show, too)
    * No Backdoor man, but otherwise very frisky during the whole set
    * Woman tried to throw silver tassly thing on stage – security literally came up and had her go back to her seat – so only a small green thing made it’s way on stage for SR, and neither of them saw it. Still lots of great SR improv!!
    * HUGE turquoise boa thrown on for Bowie – Adam wore it VERY sexily and pranced around – good stuff

    Other notes:

    * Kris is VERY sick-sounding during his set – noticeably hoarse :-( Our group shouted out “get well Kris” “Feel better” “we love you” to show him more support. But it sadly made it even more like night and day between his and Adam’s set.

    * Others who were sick didn’t show it (think Kris has it the worst now, and Adam (knock on wood) doesn’t sound sick at all)

    * Anoop was really putting on the sexy – throwing in some Adam-esque snake moves which were quite hot (though not quite Adam level ;-) )

    * Matt was great as usual

    * Allison was also on fire – vocally perfect, and lots of great energy.

    * Danny = great rapport with audience (eye-contact, lots of love)

All in all – lot of love from WB crowd for them, and they brought it last night!

Met all but Adam after the show (even poor Kris came out to sign – we wished him well and that he gets better!)

  • stelladallas

The Bowie Medley never gets old. Love it.

  • Mary102

My question would be is it OTT from youtube vids or OTT from the average seat in the stadium. To me those are 2 different things.

Adam’s set NEVER comes across as OTT during the live show – even sitting close to the stage, and even during Bowie, which is probably the most theatrical number. He really plays to the crowd and works that stage live.

  • Mary102

Adam was speeding on that WLL! He must have come in overcharged with energy! He is ahead of the band in several places, usually he is more sultry and laid back. Allison was a bit overenergetic the other day (or maybe we should say hyper). I guess it was Adams turn last night.

Interesting – I didn’t notice at the concert :-) His vocals were probably some of the best I’ve ever heard though – and he threw in A LOT of vocal acrobatics on WLL especially. You could tell he was feeling, vocally, in top form. It did almost seem that he forgot the words at some point in the middle of the song (before the mic stand improv bit with “Woman”) – he kept repeating some lines that I don’t think are correct (I’m bad at picking up details like that though) – so I definitely think he had a lot of energy and was very excited during his set.

  • Mary102

Caro – good to see you on the boards this morning :-) I’m at work now after driving back from WB – somehow made it thanks to Red Bull ;-)

  • carmine2008

You have hated on Kris every chance you get’ ¦it seems to be your goal in life to try and put him down.

A lot of people here are like that. Some even refuse to at least call him by name. But, I mean, I don’t need anyone to agree with whom I like. If anything, this only fuels me to be a bigger fan than before.

  • EveLambert

I consider “snake moves” sexy and feminine – Anoop is sexy but not feminine by a long-shot, obviously he would not do it quite like Adam….a little riggle is enough for a straight man. I believe two energetic ones might have had a couple red bulls or energy drinks before the show, not very good for you, loaded with caffiene of course.

I am confused with someone making a statement that it is odd for Adam to introduce Allison as his little kid sister while doing slow ride, my friend or my girl Allison seems better….if they are performing/acting out a song like you guys seem to think then why is it odd – he has been switching things up I think according to what he reads in the blogs, perhaps this blog specifically – the inappropriateness mentioned couple blogs ago probably made him go back to the “little sister” introduction as folks seem to be zeroing-in on certain behaviours lately…..this is a slick Adam we are dealing with here and he knows everything he does and says is scrutinized to the max.

So here goes – no Adam vs Kris argument over this. Reviewer shoved them both, on same boat and set them off to forgettable land.

At last someone on Danny’s side and Megan’s !

Here is Megan’s review. Have to quote it here . Something good for Megan-

“Blond Megan Joy showed perhaps the most growth. Leaving behind her spacey hippy personae from the show, she strutted sassily in a clingy hot pink mini-dress and sang much stronger on Corrine Bailey Rae’s ‘Put Your Records On.’ “

  • Squirrely

It is nice for someone other then the usual suspects to get a good review. I read this one yesterday, one’s from last nights show have not surfaced yet, I don’t think.

  • Mary102

Oh, and just to jump on the earlier Kris discussion – I agree some of those glory notes are not serving the song well. Also, Kris is not as good at playing off the audience applause – he often pauses, wild applause, then jumps into the next part a little too soon rather than waiting for the applause to start to die (which is when you should start up again).

In general, though, my consensus is that they had to rock up Heartless and ANS more than the show versions because of the arena setting, plus closing the show and following Adam – too much of an intimate sound would not work. Though at least one intimate song (not unlike Adam’s MW) wouldn’t hurt either. Maybe keep ANS as it was on the show, completely stripped down.

American Idol’s Top 10 rock Allstate Arena

A new review’“ but it’s from the Chicago concert! Has anyone seen this before?

While other performers become stars, Lambert has the potential to achieve Super Nova status. Once he becomes liberated from “American Idol,” he’s projected to appear on another Top 10 list very quickly. Note to Billboard — make some room.

This stood out for me. I dunno about the word “liberated” but…it’s too bad that he seems off now. I think the Tour has taken a real toll on the Idols. Adam has said a number of times that he is tired and needs some downtime. Maybe this is becoming indicative in his performances. :(

ETA: Wow on the Bowie Medley. Just wow. So maybe he just had a bad WLL night. It’s the one, IMO, that he has to use the most energy, b/c he does SR with Allison and the others are more subdued or slinky (or something) than WLL.

  • http://twitter.com/terra_zephead terraj

omg. I just watched the Bowie video. (I’ve not watched WLL and the rest) but if that wasn’t the sexiest version of the medley so far?! LOVE IT LOVE IT.

This would be what I would call a tight but loose performance. (to mirror Led Zeppelin fandom). The sound in the AdamBombs videos sound strange though, maybe they were right next to the speakers or something causing distortion in the recording. Need to hunt for a better sound version!!!

  • aa618892

suebrody-have you seen the vids from last night? Adam does not seem off one bit to me. His vocals are stronger than ever and he looks like he is having even more fun. Not off at all, IMO.

  • Mary102

Wait – not sure what you mean by this. After being a little off and visibly tired during the shows after the NYC marathon of shows, Adam has been on his A game. Last night, vocally, he was throwing in more tricks and acrobatics than I had heard him at many previous shows, and he clearly had a lot of energy and stamina.

The others, to be sure, are definitely under the weather now (especially Kris).

I think Adam knows just what he needs to do to keep himself in better condition to do what he needs to do (that is, skip M&Gs when he’s not 100%, sleep a lot during off time, etc.)

Bowie was seriously made of WIN last night :-) He was clearly having so much fun, playful, slinky, teasing, joking, yet all in character. Really a lot of fun to watch.

The whole set was great! I really loved the WLL vocals too (threw out more riffs and high notes than he tends to do on tour – more indicative of what he did every week on the show).

Adam has said a number of times that he is tired and needs some downtime. Maybe this is becoming indicative in his performances. :(

He’s tired but he’s never sounded better!! The last few concerts were so, so epic. He’s been singing a lot of high notes (see Slow Ride for instance). Some performances are more higher energy than others but overall I’d say they’re better performances than his performances before his bout of illness. I think he’s learnt how to adjust his performances so that he doesn’t get vocally tired so quickly (a better mix of lower and upper range). Starlight is so much better now and he’s found the perfect balance betwen ethereal and lower register with the song.

ETA: I just watched WLL and find nothing wrong with the performance. It’s as epic as ever. Maybe just a little more new improvisations towards the end that need a little more polishing (he usually gets the changes nailed after 1-2 performances). I watched another video not by AdamBombs though. The sound on the AdamBombs video has a little too much distortion.

  • BeckyMD

About Kris’ long note, I have to agree with Allison (finally find the same ground with her). I don’t get lengthening the note is a new interpretation of the song. To me it’s more a show-off, though a bad choice to show off a not-so-strong voice. Maybe Kris read the reviews and tried to interact with the audience more or to grad the audience attention? I mean if you hear a long lasting monotone, you get to turn around and find the source of the sound. Kris’ voice is richer live than I thought it was based on the show. The youtube vid may not do his justice. But vocal acrobatics is not Kris’ strength, musicianship(??) or phasing is, as emphasized by Kris’ fans repeatedly.

I dont’ think Allison (here) is Kris hater. She criticizes more on Adam, is easier for him recently tho. I love her love of Anoop.

  • anovich

To me it’s more a show-off, though a bad choice to show off a not-so-strong voice.

I think the problem is not that Kris’s voice isn’t strong – just this isn’t the right note to do it on.

ETA: 100% agree with terraj comments below mine – he doesn’t really have the vibrato but he does have a great vocal quality. Also, I’m sure being sick didn’t really help.

I love Kris’s vocal quality. It’s very pleasing to the ear. But I agree, vocal acrobatics is not his thing. I remember watching his performance of Star Spangled Banner and to be honest I cringed at the “land of free” section
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGwkG1o8NIM
It’s exactly what he did for Heartless tonight. He doesn’t have the ability to sustain the long notes which honestly usually incorporates some sort of vibrato (also this was the wrong place to sustain the note in). But I guess poor bb is sick in this performance as well, so I’ll give him a pass ;)

  • Mary102

Hi, yes – from the W-B show last night, Kris was by far the only one really sounding off. The others (Matt, Michael, Anoop) tweeted about being sick, and Matt seemed a little more sick and tired after and before the show. Performance-wise, though, all but Kris seemed to be 100%. Lots of energy from Michael, Anoop, and Matt (in fact, more from Anoop than I remember in the past shows).

Allison and the other girls were awesome and didn’t seem sick – Allison was on fire, vocally and energy-wise!

I agree with Adam moving over to the girls bus till the tour ends to stay healthy ;-) That bus seems to be fine, and he may be the only guy not sick right now.

ETA: Except Danny – but I think he’s a machine based on those biceps who just doesn’t get sick :-)

TBH, Life On Mars was the part of the Medley where the “awesome-W-B-show” interpretation didn’t seem to apply as much (the fun really started after the Fame strip-tease.) LoM is very theatrical imo, more so than the rest of the set, because he’s literally telling a story there, and acting it out with the gestures, etc.

The sound in this arena is usually pretty bad for music; it was built with hockey in mind and not much thought towards accoustics. Having said that, it wasn’t as bad (sound) as I thought would be, but not as good, either, after reading how blown away everyone else has been at previous venues. All in all I enjoyed the show, would see it again somewhere else and was glad the folks were on their feet at the end.

  • Bowie1

Thanks ‘AdamBombs’ for the great videos!

I thought Adam was on his game last night. I just thought he might have forgotten a few words in WLL but it still had a lot of energy as did all his performances last night. Loved his vocals!

Hope Kris and the others who are ‘under the weather’ feel better soon and I hope Adam and the others stay well! Just a few more concerts and they can all get some needed rest.

Yeah, Allison was really great last night :-) SOOO much energy, and vocals were just excellent throughout her set. Even So What, which is usually my least fav of her set, was very strong. And Cry Baby and Barracuda were just loads of energy. And SR, what can you say, she and Adam are just having so much fun during that number :-)

I am very picky about sound in general (being a classical musician), and I was worried about a lot of the venues, but have generally been pretty happy with the sound. I will say, there was A LOT of helium sound from Adam during SL, and even Life on Mars, which I don’t remember before, from where I was seated. Too bad, because you know that’s not how Adam REALLY sounds (unless there’s a balloon he’s sucking on between songs that we don’t know about).

Alison: Not true…I don’t know you. BTW, go look up my recap from the Memphis show. You might find we have a few things in common. But, we do disagree on a couple of things also. That’s why this blog is interesting.

  • Tess

I really like Kris but I feel that this “arena” tour has done him no favors. Every artist has their strong and weak points and, for Kris, his achilles heel is performing in a setting that is too big and broad for his style, his voice, and his personality. IMHO, in trying to reach the far corners of the venue he looses that upclose, personal feeling and he become a characterization of himself. His “cute” little faces become more pronounced and distorted, his energy level becomes suspect, his instruments become props rather than part of the music he is making.

I would hope that people save their judgment of Kris until he is performing in the proper setting for his voice. I think that, if his post idol material is decent, that he should showcase himself on the more intimate stage and audience setting….he is by his own definition a more laid back singer who likes to accompany himself. I, personally, can’t watch his tour vids because I loose all sense of Kris. He isn’t the same person because he tries too hard to be who he isn’t and to conform to the arena landscape. Ain’t him, probably never will be and he should stay clear of these type of venues in the future.

I actually liked the Bowie medley from last night. I usually don’t care so much for it since I am not that fond of medleys (and I find his dancing a bit hard to swallow). I think I would rather have him do another dance song instead of Let’s dance, maybe Madonnas Ray of Light or Aguileras Dirty. Life on Mars is one beautiful song though.

If I would use one word to describe WLL from yday, I woulnd’t use sloppy but impatient and edgy, full of nervous energy. OK that was more than one word.

Well. Did anyone actually watch the Bowie Vid? It’s hilarious! Love when he throws the boa over his shoulders, wiggles a bit, then says ‘wut?!’
as if saying to someone in the crowd, ‘okay i’ve got the boa, it looks ridiculous. SO?’

I watched them all with my morning tea. I love the Adam Bombs. And, yes I so love the Bowie video!! He taunts and teases and has a GREAT TIME up there!

“And the part where he forgets the words after ‘let’s swayyyyyy’ ’ ¦ and sort of garbles something through’ ¦ it is unmistakably a boo boo and it had me on the floor.”

I believe he tries to sing “Put on your red shoes…. before he catches himself and pulls himself out of the nose dive that can happen when you flub the lyrcs. Had me laughing too.

“AND THEN’“ he dances over to the back up singers and the bassist and sings ‘I’ll run with you two and you two AND THEM’ ¦’

Has he been drinking kris’s cold medicine?”

Well maybe. I think he’s trying to acknowledge the band, the back-up singers and everyone who works so hard to make the tour happen before it’s over. He’s nice that way.

“Oh man. He was enjoying himself there. I think he invited everyone onstage to run with him. I think part of what was funny was that he didn’t even say ‘And them.’ It was ‘you two and you too. THEM!’ So random.”

Yeah, totally. I do think he means it whens he sings “Dance with me and I’ll set you free.” I’m happy to go along on this joy ride with him It’s a blast!

I loved that last note in Let’s Dance. That’s two nights in a row that he has really held it out and improved on it. I think he sounded hot last night, despite the flubbed lyrcs in Bowie and at the end of WLL. He catches himself and then does something different and cool with it. SR was great fun and SL, MW, good too. I don’t think he’s getting bored. He always looks like he’s having the time of his life up there, down to the last moment when that lift takes him away. Always a big, huge grin.

Some perspective on my opinion: I was and will always be a Dead Head. Anyone here ever listen to Jerry Garcia sing on old bootleg tapes? Well, the man flubbed lyrics on a regular basis. We loved him anyway. It was always the ENERGY of the show that had everybody so damn happy. And I think Adam really knows how to work the energy of a live show better than anyone else up there.

  • NewFan

I think that Kris is doing amazingly well on this tour and there have been a great many things working against him. The guy is made of steel. People have made so many unfavorable Kris-Adam comparisons (contrasts) and he remains so calm and steady and cheerful and well, he’s remained all of the good things that Kris usually is. I think that he’s grown but he hasn’t changed and I’m really impressed that he has shown so much backbone and integrity. His song presentation may have changed a bit but if you look at his interviews … he’s the same dude; no trace of ego, arrogance or resentment. Everything is stacked against him but once he gets over the fatigue and the flu … no problems.

And let’s not beat up on Alison8701. I think that she’s the one person who is completely honest and forthright about her idol and all the others as well. Equal opportunity critique. Good analysis. A little snark but does anybody really sense any ill-will? Really now? Not an ounce.

“Wow! You know, for Adam fans, you guys are actually pretty okay!”

Of course we’re Ok alison. A little crazy maybe, slightly obsessed at times, but ok nonetheless. And so are you. You have strong opinions and you are not afraid to share them. Excellent. It’s really cool to have so many different perspectives.

I do appreciate your love of Anoop. I loved his initial audition and I like his soulfulness, when it shows up. I hope the best is yet to come for him and he is able to make his living as a singer. He just didn’t hold my attention very well after Adam hypnotized me with glitter dust and chakra driven high notes.

ONTD_AI = Oh No They Didn’t American Idol

They’re an offshoot of Oh No They Didn’t main, that seceded and formed their own community when the majority of ONTD members kept hating on either Adam or Kris or both in Idol posts. Both are LiveJournal communities.

^^THIS! He is so infectuously happy during his set! It really comes across. The others do a great job of that too, imo, not really showing any boredom, but I think Adam may be the only one not consciously bored at all (he just lives and loves to perform!) Even when he makes mistakes, he covers very well, makes it interesting, and he just goes with it (case in point – I DID NOT notice the lyric flub during Bowie last night ;-) WAY too much going on to care! – and for WLL, I noticed what appeared to be a mistake, but he just went through it like it might as well have been the original :-) ) Awesome stuff!

Yes, indeed. That was kind of scary coming from Kris…

    Well Alison (good morning)

It’s only because he is ssoooooooooo wonderful and beautiful in body and soul. He sparkled us with glitter from the Planet Fierce and we became enlightened in the ways of music and life. Rays of sunshine fall all around and we will share the love with you ‘ ¦ if you like ‘ ¦ or you can stay with James Bhondi. I hear that he’s pretty good too.

Tempting, but I think I’ll stick with James Bondhi.

Well, I appreciate your good thoughts about him- and I’m sure he does too!

I understand Adam is captivating.. but I must have been looking the other way while he was mesmerizing the rest of the audience. The good lookin Indian probably caught my eye.

To me it’s more a show-off, though a bad choice to show off a not-so-strong voice.

I think the problem is not that Kris’s voice isn’t strong ‘“ just this isn’t the right note to do it on.”

Hmmmmm, not sure if this will get read, but I’ve gone back to the GR video of Heartless and as a super, big time Kris fan I have to say…

When you watch it on line it does seem that he is holding the wrong note, when you watch it live you don’t care, he is holding a note and it’s great… so I leave it to a matter of perspective :)

I like grape and orange lollies. Grape is always highly sought after. Orange, not so much. Often, I don’t fight and just settle for orange.
