It’s an extremely clear and close-up version of Kris doing Bright Lights the other night in Memphis. This might be the best video in terms of actual closeness to the stage/picture quality I’ve seen yet…I don’t remember seeing it posted, so I apologize if it has already been…

Oh and silly idols, going out in the sun. Told ya, the sun is not your friend. Especially around the water because it reflects. Some of the quickest, and stupidest looking burns I got where when I went sailing and either didn’t adequately sunblock, or had it wash off.

It’s the live stream broadcast that the tour band was doing, sometimes bringing in idols for chats.. the last broadcast was with Alison and Aaron (the drummer) in a dance off.. also answering questions from fans who are in the chatroom.

We’re still the strip club capital of the world baby! Florida, is a large and diverse state. In some areas, you’ll feel like you’re in Alabama. And, we’ve got so many transplants here (I am one) that sometimes you might feel like you’re in Jersey.

The Forum will have people in it tonight from the greater Tampa Bay area. An area made up of 6 counties filled with all kinds of different people. Some city peeps, some country folk and a huge plethora of families from the suburbs. Generally, the suburban peeps outnumber everyone else at this point.

So, you won’t be able to figure out who is going to get what reception by which way we’ve gone in elections. The reason the St. Pete Times Forum is the highest grossing concert venue in the US (other than the fact that it really is lovely) is because it’s conveniently located to several densely populated counties. There will be people there from Tampa, Clearwater Beach, Pasco, Lakeland, Sarasota, etc. It’s doubtful there’s any kind of political consensus in that place right now.

Tampa/St. Pete is very different from the other cities in Florida. Most of the people that live there moved from Conneticut, New York state, Chicago, etc. and like SpencerJ said – you rarely hear a southern accent there and when I lived there at times it really did seems like you were in Jersey.

I have a question aout tomorrow’s show — where is Sunrise, FL? What part of the state is that in?

I’m hot-and-cold about the Idols being on East Coast — on the one hand, it’s only 7pm my time when the concert ends, giving me time to do non-Idol related stuff the rest of the night. On the other hand, I’m usually at work at 4pm, which means either I can’t listen to the concert, or I’ll have to listen with earphones (and could still be easily distracted from my actual work)

Possibly. In non-rush-hour traffic, it would take them roughly an hour to get from a downtown Tampa hotel (where I assume they stayed) to Disney.

Its great Adam is getting love everywhere, as he should, talent is talent. Other things shouldn’t matter. If he didn’t act the way he does, and didn’t have the personality that he has, he would be just another amazing voice in a crowd. That goes for all the idols really, they are all unique, some more than others.

Scott strikes me as someone who is talented technically. Not really on vocals, but I’m sure he plays the piano very precisely. Matt has so much soul and funk and when he rocks out on the piano, it’s phenomenal. You can tell Matt plays to entertain people.

Some people have said that he is sometimes the second most popular/tied with second most popular at shows. But for the most part he has according to a lot of reviews I have read ranked at least third in popularity at the shows.

MJ may ban me from ever coming back, but I was speculating about Danny after the Dallas concert. I am thinking that since his wife had just died and he went right out and started havin’ all so much fun sanging and being “famous” that he felt guilty….so he assuages his guilty feelings by dedicating a few sentences to her ever chance he gets. ?? That’s what I have come up with to explain his refusal to stop churching it up on stage. It’s really a downer when you are trying hard to rock out with him on stage and keep up the energy. Just IMHO….

I’ve heard Danny live twice, and I have to admit he has a really good sound to his voice. After the tour, he should get come vocal training.

Poor Megan. After I calmed down from laughing so hard I kinda feel bad for her. She seems to be trying to find herself or find something that works for her but its just not working. She curls her hair and they call her a Barbie then she does this trainwreck. She also seems to have covered her tattoo on her arm.

I know that the AI people probably have no interest in her so they don’t want to invest alot in her but they should get someone to help her during this tour. They need to make her look good not make her the joke of the tour.

Megan’s hair! First thought = Young Frankenstein/Madeline Kahn. Second thought = that episode of Friends where they went to Ross’s convention in the Caribbean and Monica’s hair frizzed out like crazy. Maybe Florida’s humidity took its toll on poor Megan Joy.

I really hope Matt gets signed, too. He is very talented and has done a great job on tour. There’s a place out there for both Danny and Matt. I’m pretty sure Danny will be signed somewhere.

But if neither get signed, I guess they could always go indie and put out their “Christian rap album.” (Joke for those who follow Matt and Danny…others might not get it)

Actually, for the rest of the idols who don’t have any recording contract yet, Matt is the most deserving to be next. Matt is good. I was impressed when I heard him live at Staples. He also showed some showmanship. No wonder, Adam said during their AI stint that he somewhat felt intimidated with Matt’s talent. Adam acknowledges Matt’s great talent.

Scott has about some cds of his piano playing for sale on CD Baby, and you’re exactly right about his playing. I’ve played just about every single one of the pieces he has on the cds because they’re the ones that every piano teacher seems to assign to people who’ve had classical training for seven- or eight-plus years and a lot of the traditional contest pieces and such. And to the ear of someone who’s very familiar with them, at least, he plays them all very very accurately and with really steady rhythm and, to my ear, basically like a machine. A lot of the pieces are fairly technically tough, but I can’t hear anything organic or musical about his playing at all. Whereas Matt is just totally organic, his rhythm, his improvising, his musicality. It’s like night and day. That difference seems to be clearly evident on the tour. I feel as if Scott’s a *tiny* bit freer when he’s accompanying himself singing, but not by much.

Ha!! Squirrely, that’s funny! I was thinking that he did that dance the first night in Portand and then never again! The novelty of doing the new moves Jaquel taught them must have worn off when he saw himself on YouTube! It was rather silly, so I’m glad he dumped it. His own style is much sexier.. even though when I first saw the Bowie number his infamous gay club/black outift Kiss & Tell dance with the two male backup dancers came to mind in an “ooohhh nooooo”moment, but I got over it fast!

Yeah, I agree. It is all a bit ridiculous and certainly classless. But a few of these tweeters showed their hand so early that I already knew what they were going to say about Danny before he came on….the people at the concerts have shown their appreciation for Danny from day one of the tour.

You’re right, Southern Breeze, Danny doesn’t deserve that, but that’s the kind of crap he gets over and over.

But y’know, what’s funny is this. I “talked” to a reporter over Twitter who had interviewed the idols for a magazine in Arizona. I asked her what her impressions were of the idols. To my suprise she tweeted me back. She said that they were all super nice, but that her favorite was Danny Gokey. She said that he was the nicest and the “most down to earth.” I also recently read a blog of a reporter who interviewed several of the idols, and she also said that Danny was her absolute favorite. The people who meet him on the tour all talk about how nice he is. It seems that everyone who actually knows/meets Danny, thinks he is a good guy, it’s the Internet peeps who have never met him who are so sure that he is a “douche”, as the say.

As far as the Tweeters go, I guess I prefer that I know their bias upfront. That way I know that there’s no reason for me to put any stock into their comments since they seem unwilling to at least give him a chance.

That’s what I’m afraid of. It’s not necessary to throw anything. TOnight was craziness. Throwing things like whips and handcuffs could injure somebody. As amusing as it might be for some, they really should think before they throw. Guess Adam didn’t care enough about the whip to keep it being as he left it on stage.

I wonder if the reviews in tomorrow’s paper will mention the whips and handcuffs! Should make for an interesting read…..:)

Not from the East Coast are you? I wouldn’t be surprised if her hair was perfectly straight with a can of hairspray holding it down, then she went outside for a cigarette and that’s what she came back with.

On a super hot, humid day and evening, you might as well go with it. Hair with any body in it frizzes up like you’ve had your finger in a light socket, and board straight hair gets limp and looks dirty.

Oh, believe me, I have hella curly hair and I know from frizz. Thank God I live in SoCal, but I’m fighting a losing battle here too. I leave the house all cute and curly, but by 10:00 a.m., I look like an ’80s rocker.

But still, if professionals were doing my hair, that shit better take. And Megan’s hair has never really looked curly before, even in her audition, it was board straight – as I recall.

I was at the Oakland concert and didn’t even realize someone had thrown a black bra on stage til I saw it on youtube. Those lucky people on the floor get quite a show.

That’s what I wondered too that maybe they thought the tweets were us. A very nasty thing to do calling us names. Maybe this is the first time they have visited here. We all know that we don’t do that type of thing.

HannaB4, do you have any idea what they do to help with these issues. I would have thought that the only remedy would be vocal rest. Danny is one of my favorites and I would really hate for him to be on vocal rest come Friday. Of course, I’d also hate for him to further injure himself. Did Archuletta have to miss any concerts?

Matt is good. I was impressed when I heard him live at Staples. He also showed some showmanship. No wonder, Adam said during their AI stint that he somewhat felt intimidated with Matt’s talent. Adam acknowledges Matt’s great talent.

Matt didn’t impress me until his idolatry interview, and then, I really appreciated his musical knowledge and experience. He’s definitely made the rounds trying to make it in the music biz, and I have a lot of respect for him for that. Based on his success on tour, I can see him seguing into a good singing career.

Wow, that was a really random post – just thinking about that whip right now…

I still didn’t get Susan Boyle being on vocal rest every other show practically – how will she handle a concert with more than two songs.

I really liked Matt too when I saw him in Ontario. He was so much better live than on the show. I think his nerves really messed him up on the show.

I hope he does get some help. I don’t think Danny’s voice has ever been put through the ringer like this and the tour is not even half over yet.

I feel sorry for Danny but that is where the lack of vocal training can bite you. I believe they still have a vocal coach on tour with them so maybe Danny will get the TLC he needs. He just goes all out with such power and volume in every performance and that it can’t be good on his vocal cords. You don’t always have to sing loud to portray emotion in a song. He’s got to remember it is a loooooong tour. Adam for sure and Kris seem to have a good sense of themselves and how to preserve their voices for when it counts the most. Maybe he can skip out on the group performances for a couple of shows and let someone else perform his parts. They got along great without Megan for that one show. Oh, maybe that was a good thing.

I think that this must be Adam’s request. And it makes sense. He is going way above his natural vocal range when he hits those high notes. Even though he’s done 8 shows a week doing theater tours, that didn’t involve hitting notes like he does in the Idol Concert.

What I find sexy is the way Matt moves his body when playing that piano. Wow those were seriously great videos. I loved watching his hands fly on the keys. Matt definitely has a love connection with the piano. He is amazing! He really does remind me of Billy Joel. Matt seems in that video like a Taylor Hicks 0.2. Matt plays the piano and Taylor the hamonica, both with abandon. Both are best at the soul stuff. Taylor might be a little bit better mover on stage, but just say’n, they both shine in live concert.

Thanks, Susan M, that was especialy interesting to me as a photographer, but I’m not crazy about her PhotoShop techniques. She posted a photo the other day after the concert she went to and I thought it was horribly over-sharpened… but maybe that’s just me. I would KILL for a press pass to that photographer’s area in front of the stage, though – what I got was from row 11 (I posted a couple links here the other night and the # of views went from 4 to over 1000 in 24 hours! – freaky!) and with my toy camera!

Just watched the Memphis WLL and it was really changed up. Of course, the spastic camerawork didn’t help (not that I’m bagging on the photog ‘“ it’s not easy, especially with a tiny camera), but Adam made a LOT of modifications to that performance.

It was mentioned in a pre-tour interview in LA that they didn’t tour with a vocal coach. I can’t recall where I read it but it a comment from Debra Byrd that they get vocal coaching during the competition and some during rehersal, then they are on their own. Archie and Kat McPhee had their own private voice coaches during the tour.

Megan’s hair was a trainwreck but I’m kind of warming to it in a weird way, since with the pink dress it reminds me of the Teri Garr character in one of my favorite movies, After Hours. Go Megan!

Well, I’ve discovered typing late at night makes me less coherent, so I may have messed something up there: I just meant that the CoverItLive function that MJ added to each tour thread was great because it put the tweets in one place, updating regularly, so even if you can’t follow the tweets live (like me), just reading them after the fact can be quite hilarious and awesome (again, coherence lacking late at night )

I’m with you here. I think what I like is how Adam deals with all the stuff that is thrown at him — he definitely has a sense of playfulness about it. Being able to pick up this stuff, sing at the same time, not lose the beat and everything else shows just how good he is as a performer.

About the vocal rest and hurting your vocal chords — I’m a classically trained vocalist (along with Q3) and have always worried about Danny’s voice. From what I hear when I listen to him, he has never learned to properly support his voice (using the right muscles), which makes him “shouty” a lot of the time. It’s sort of when you scream for a little bit; you really feel it in your throat the next day. That’s what it feels like to sing and not support your voice the right way.

Because the voice is an instrument just as much as is a guitar or a tuba, you have to learn to use it properly and take care of it properly. That does take work, but it is worth it because you won’t end up with surgery or wrecking your voice completely over time. I hope that Danny gets the training and rest that his voice needs because it’s only going to get worse for him if it doesn’t. The same with some of the others. Adam is ahead of the game here because he’s been singing professionally for years and knows how to do this stuff already.

I wonder when Adam goes on his solo tour, girls will start exposing their boobs to him.

See the top of the page the box says Cover it Live click on the arrow and tweets pop up during the concert that way you don’t have to scramble reading different tweets – most are right there. I have two mj’s blogs up and refresh for the blogs and the Cover it Live refreshes itself.

I agree! Throwing things at performers on stage belongs in cheap dives! It’s beginning to make Adam look like the “caricature” someone mentioned! What makes people think that what he tolerated in a club in LA is what he wants on a national tour across the US?!

You are so right about needing to take care of one’s voice. I actually didn’t really do a great job because no one was really trained to sign hard rock songs back in the early 70′s when I used to sing. Voice coaches are much better now and really know a lot more about how to teach people to improve their technique. But there is no way to continue to do some things without damaging your vocal chords. John Lennon’s scream is one example.

I have been worried about both Danny and Allison since the beginning of the season. And both sounded like they had some issue in LR and Memphis.

You can buy a new guitar string, you only get one set of vocal chords.

I have been on Twitter tonight (all night). It’s always interesting there (I mostly tweeted about the stupid RED SOX, but there was plenty of Idol/Glambert conversation as well).

I bet TPTB are thrilled that the show is getting so much attention (and note that nearly every review is positive about both Adam AND Kris, no matter what is, er, thrown on stage).

And after the evening’s festivities, my favorite tweet was from @IdolScott, who wanted to know what he should blog about, since he had been offline for a while.

Mini recap:
I just got home from the concert, and the entire show is great. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Michael Sarver. I know……I said Michael Sarver. And Megan Joy………..really liked her too, except for the dead poodle on her head. That was some seriously BAD HAIR! Ok, I just admitted I really liked Michael and Megan, and now the cool kids will never let me sit with them again.

Oh well, it will surprise no one that I liked Kris best. I am confused as to whom I liked second best. Danny reminded me of what I liked about him early in the season. Matt had one show stopper, and two snoozers. Someone should tell him his set order is backwards. He needs to end his set with the show stopper.

Allison was rock solid. I loved every minute she was on stage, but it evaporated as soon as she left. Nothing stayed with me, and I am not sure why.

I thought I would like ‘Noop a lot more than I actually did, so that was a disappointment.

Whole Lotta Love is every thing I like about Adam. Starlight is every thing I don’t like about Adam. For me, the rest of his set never recovered from Starlight.

Kris was really rock solid tonight. The humorous recapper from Memphis, whose screenname escapes me at the moment, was absolutely right about the difference in Kris’ voice live. As beautiful as the tone is on TV or digital download, it pales in comparison to the richness of the voice live. Of all of the Idols, Kris, the cute Idol with the warm beautiful voice, is the only one who could carry off Hey Jude, originally done by the cute Beatle with the warm beautiful voice. It just fit.

The finale was fun, but I guess the sunburned Kris was in no mood for a Kradam dance.

Seriously folks, if the show comes within 2 hours of your cabin in the forest, paddle the canoe, hitch up the Conestoga, green power your Prius, or whatever it takes and get yourself to the show. The youtubes don’t even come close to the real thing. You will thank me for it.

I was CRACKING UP watching it live. It was hilarious and sexy at the same time.

A few things before I hibernate to write a recap for MJ.

1. I thought Danny sounded fine. Better than I ever thought he was on the show. I actually sat through his whole set, but got kinda bored. Sorry. Not really a fan, and other than “P.Y.T.” I was just not feelin’ it, dawg.
2. Lil was the one who I thought had some vocal problems. Some of the big notes on “No One” were a little strained, even though it still sounded good. “Single Ladies” was great and SHE ACKNOWLEDGED ME IN THE AUDIENCE! Awesome!
3. I LOVE ALLISON IRAHETA. Girl is amazing. When they started the opening strains of “So What”, I literally JUMPED to my feet, screaming. She was amazing.
4. Adam is a STAR. That’s all there is to it. For me and my friend, it was like we were watching a good show with some highlights here and there, and then he comes on. The crowd cheered for Danny, and then there was a slight lull in the cheering as the lights went down and then the place erupted into PANDEMONIUM. Friend and I both agreed that neither one of us has ever seen someone come off of AI with the kind of stage presence and star power that he already has. I need to save stuff for my recap so I’ll end there for now, but OMG. AMAZING. I sincerely and seriously hope that if you are a fan, you’re able to see him live on this tour, and if you’re overseas, you will be able to see him live sometime in the future.
5. Kris’s set was obviously a different feel from Adam’s, but he was also fantastic. IMO, “Bright Lights” is the best song in the set, and he got long, LOUD cheers after that one. He tore it UP tonight. I’ll definitely go see him in a smaller venue on his solo tour.
6. I so love Anoop’s voice. He sounded really, really good tonight. Really good, solid set.
7. Matt tore it UP on “Hard to Handle.” That song brought down the house. “Georgia” was fantastic as well, but IMO, “You Found Me” wasn’t the right choice for his closing song. It kinda killed the energy, for me.
8. Megan sounded great on the Amy Winehouse song and she’s gorgeous, but OMG that hair.
9. Scott sounded a lot better than he did on the show. Still love his wit but not crazy about his singing. Piano playiing was good though.
10. Michael really gets the show off to a great start. I liked him better on the Gavin DeGraw song than the Ne-Yo one, but I guess that’s because I’ve never really seen him as a R&B kinda guy. Pop/soul, yeah.

Anyway… more coming in the recap, I promise. Just wanted to give initial thoughts now.

Vada — Thank you for the fun (and fast) little recap. My favorite line — “And Megan Joy’ ¦’ ¦’ ¦..really liked her too, except for the dead poodle on head.” Priceless! And like so many here have state about Kris live — he really sounds SO much better in person.

Matt had one show stopper, and two snoozers. Someone should tell him his set order is backwards. He needs to end his set with the show stopper.

THIS!! It sounds like this simple fix will really improve Matt’s set immeasurably! Everyone seems to agree that it starts out brilliantly, and ends a bit flat. So just switch the order! End on your best note (literally).

Sarah, I cannot WAIT to read your review! Should be hysterical. Meanwhile, many of us are anxiously awaiting video, photos, and so on…mostly videos.

For me, the AI tour is supposed to be fun, weird, OTT, snarky, humorous. And it should be about fan participation. That is the intent of the show, to say thanks to the fans that supported these 10 idol finalists through months of hard work. Now the kids get to entertain and have a blast. They are no longer being judged (except by over-invested fans). If fans are silly enough to throw paraphernalia onstage that is their call.

And the thing I try to remember is that for most of the audience they aren’t watching this concert over and over again on Youtube….this is there only chance to witness the idol performances…and if they want to be outrageous and loud and boisterous, good on them.

Considering they are doing 50 nearly identical shows, it must be fun to have surprises that liven things up and give the Idols something to talk about. In several interviews he has said that he finds it funny and/or hilarious when fans throw bras onstage. underwear, not so much. He enjoys throwing the bras back out to the audience, but apparently the crew suggested that he keep them and they will start stapling the underthings to the underneath of the stage. Too funny.

From the many interviews and videos I have seen, it really looks like he’s having a good time with this particular need of women to throw their bras onstage. (Yes, I am an Adam freak…..I know way too much about the man – I don’t know if this is healthy, but I can’t help myself)

Can someone interpret the adam/kris remarks for me

I think she is saying while girls are screaming their heads off for Adam, in comparison, Kris is a bit boring so girls are checking their text messages.

I don’t know why so many people still think Kris is boring. He’s quite good, but for some reason if you have to follow Adam that makes you boring? I never hear “boring” used in reference to anyone except Kris. I understand that his style is a total 180 from Adam’s, but if everyone was the same as Adam, THAT would boring IMO. I sometimes wonder if these reviewers even watched the show?

Adam didn’t come out for the post-concert signing tonight. It was due to security concerns that the crowd couldn’t be controlled.

Yes, I agree. They’re doing 50 shows of this cheesefest, they might as well have some spontaneous fun while on it. I find it all hilarious. Adam obviously doesnt take it too seriously and neither do I.He has fun with the props thrown on stage :tongue1_tb: as he gets them

Post show, he’s back in LA where the real work starts, and I’m sure he’ll be working not to be a carricature, and just recording his album, promos etc…This is just the cheese in between, so bring on the handcuffs……….hopefully by the time they get to NY there’ll be some velvet rope!

There are three different reports about why Adam didn’t sign tonight:

1. He was sick, had a headache.

2. Stalker

3. Crowd was too unruly/big.

If he had a headache, security would have left it at that. I sure hope it isn’t a stalker. And if it is a crowd control issue, they shouldn’t tell the crowd that — even if it is true.

I always watch and listen to Adam’s sets. And I believe you about him mentioning the city. But on the cell casts it’s hard to hear anything clearly at all between the underwater scuba diving and the bubbling sounds. And the YouTube videos often cut off as soon as the song ends, so I’m never sure about what anyone says to the crowd during their sets. Kris’ thank you is the only one that consistently shows up on the YouTube videos, and that’s only because it comes before the actual end of the song! If he waited until DSB ended and everyone was cheering to say thank you, that probably wouldn’t show up on the videos, either!

I wasn’t trying to slight Adam or anyone else. So I apologize if you got that impression.

I’ve been looking for vids for the past 10 mins, nothing yet. Tampa better come through is all I can say…

I agree! Throwing things at performers on stage belongs in cheap dives! It’s beginning to make Adam look like the ‘caricature’  someone mentioned! What makes people think that what he tolerated in a club in LA is what he wants on a national tour across the US?!

That’s starting to freak me out a little bit (the caricature thing). This is the same guy that looked like a coed in shorts and flip flops…. He’s just a cutie and I see him as so innocent.

Thanks to you all that tried to help me view Megan’s hairstyle. Nothing is working which is WEIRD…. never had this problem but oh well… I’m pretty sure I will see get to see it in tomorrow’s posts.
