Has it started yet? I’m assuming not since Rickey is still talking. 3 more days for me. It seems like an eternity.

  • AC

I wonder if this show is close to sold out?

  • girlygirl

Guess no one’s listening tonight huh? The cell cast over on Rickey TV is really bad…can’t tell who is singing even.

    Matt tweeted this from backstage:

#Just heard the rumble of the sound system from the opening of the show. Frickin’ crazy!! So excited…I’m gonna be like this every night.#26 minutes ago from web

  • LisaE

Here’s another Twitterer from the show:

    http://twitter.com/beckytweets

  • Valentin432

    The cellcast sucks tremendously today.
Better hope for some good youtube .

  • dyg

Impossible to follow the cellcast :-(

  • lrdawg

Rickey’s viewers cellphone isn’t picking up very well.

  • ravengirl

Well, I certainly hope that Rickey talks to his cellcaster to see if there is any chance of salvaging this show over the cell before the second half. I mean, it is really bad.
Disappointed to see not too many people here tonight. But I just got here so perhaps the night is young.

  • GeminiDolly

Damn it, and I had my set timer and everything to mark down who gets more stage time. But with this cellcast, I dont even know whos up and when they begin or ends.

  • relyec

the beckytweets twitter is pretty good at updates. just makes me wish I were there. Tacoma is my hometown, I now live in ohio and will see the tour in columbus!!!! Can’t wait!!!!

  • Squirrely

Is Richard Rushfield going to all the shows?

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Well, I certainly hope that Rickey talks to his cellcaster to see if there is any chance of salvaging this show over the cell before the second half. I mean, it is really bad.

I doubt there’s much Rickey can do unless he finds another cellcaster.

Broadcasting music over a tiny-tinny cell phone isn’t exactly optimal to begin with.

  • lrdawg

The cellcaster’s cellphone probably have some sort of noise canceling feature causing it to block out background noise (which is why it sounds like it’s cutting in and out).

  • AC

Squirrely- I think this is his only other one. or at least for now. he’s being super nice in all his reviews though

  • relyec

does anyone know how the twitter thing works? I’m new to it and am following the beckytweets who is at the concert, but I’m not recieving my cell alerts even though my device setting is turned on. I’ve only recieved one update on my phone. My husband wants me to turn the computer off but I want to follow the concert. HELP

  • Krickette

GeminiDolly, Why don’t you take the times off the videos?

  • girlygirl

Yeah Richard Rushfield said this was his last show that he was travelling to…he may be at the one that is at Staples Center though

First half of the show is over…maye during intermission Rickey can find someone else who is at the show and has a cell phone…because I couldn’t hear any actual singing through all that garbled static or whatever it was

Too bad. Hopefully there will be Youtube videos posted quickly afterwards to compensate

  • Ellie2

relyec, I’ve found the twitter phone updates to be completely hit or miss. I have it set so I get Adam’s tweets by phone, but I only receive them about 2/3 of the time. I have no idea why. Maybe it has to do with twitter usage at certain periods? Wish I could help!

  • madefourbabies

Rickey just said his cellcaster has switched phones, so hopefully the second half of the show will sound better. Let’s hope. :down_tb:

  • relyec

thanx anyway!!! I just got another one completely random. 15 min after the first. gotta go night everyone looking forward to youtube clips tomorrow!!!!

  • tierbee

I’m lurking around in here :) — can’t listen to the cellcast tonight but sounds like I’m not missing anything! I have a headache… headache cellcasts just won’t mix. So will watch some of the twitters when I can, and wait for videos so I can feel sorry for myself that I won’t be able to go to a show AGAIN this year. Haha!

  • girlygirl

changing phones hasn’t helped the cell cast

  • dyg

At least I heard “cry baby” several times ;-)

  • GeminiDolly

Allison is so underrated. That girl rocks hard. Just 17!! Oh em gee

  • dyg

    That girl rocks hard.

That ´s why she was signed.

  • GaGaGlambert

This cellcast reminds me of listening to AM radio as a teenager – sometimes you’d pull in an out of area station. It sounded like this – sort of an underwater experience. Allison rocked it on Barracuda.

  • shadow-rider

I just tuned into the cellcast and its just a jumbled mess but now Danny is on and its clear. I can hear him singing PYT. I betcha when Adam and Kris come on it will be a jumbled mess again due to all the screaming.

  • cookcricket

I love Allison. I thought Richard Rushfield’s comment on her was spot on. LOL.

If u r not grinning like a fool while Allison sings were all gonna get in a fight u need to have your heart examined 2 c if u r alive

    from twitter above. :)

  • dyg

Time for a break, Danny is on stage

  • GeminiDolly

    Granny? ewww just no.

  • HotHotHot

    So quiet tonight

  • dyg

Wonder if Danny is doing the salsa dancing with the mic again

  • GeminiDolly

Its almost time for Adam squeeeeee 2 bad hes gonna sounds like Im underwater :(

  • SparklesATL

Ricky’s cellcast may not sound great, but I enjoy watching Ricky. He’s as cute as a button.

  • LisaE

    Favorite tweet tonight:

“idoltourbenches: Nooooooo there were speakers in the bathroonm. Listening to danny sing pyt when you’re trying to pee is not my idea of a bathroom break :(

  • madefourbabies

“Allison is so underrated. That girl rocks hard. Just 17!! Oh em gee”

She really is an extraordinary talent. I almost wish that she and Adam could tour together (just the two of them)…I love them both. :)

Come on sound! Adam is next and I neeeeeeed my fix!! :wub_tb:

  • Susan M.

Can’t deal with the cell cast again, but want to keep up with the play-by-play. Sorry if this was posted before. So for my fellow Adamtards, this is for you:

edit: what happened in other threads is not the topic. Don’t judge or criticize other posters

  • SparklesATL

Is Danny preaching? Did I just hear him ask people to come up, accept the Lord and get baptized?

  • dyg

    Thanks Susan. This is HOT!!!

  • LisaE

‘Allison is so underrated. That girl rocks hard. Just 17!! Oh em gee’

I think she was underrated by the judges, but I don’t think anyone else underestimates her! Between the record deal, the mad critic love, etc. she’s gotten tons of support since the show. As long as she sticks to her musical guns and keeps good people around her, she’s going to be great!

However, if they try to market her to a Disney audience in the future, I will be mad…This girl is ready for the big time!

  • dsp

Ok I timed it right I’m getting the smelling salts ready

  • dyg

Yes, Danny was preaching again. He thinks he is in a church

  • GeminiDolly

Stop it Susan. I dont want to faint from the gorgeousness that is Adam before he sings.

  • madefourbabies

Geez…one of the better performers (Adam, Allison, or Kris) could do an extra song in the amount of time Danny wastes with his preaching. Can’t figure out why they allow him to do that. :wacko_tb:

  • Susan M.

edit: actually, I think this post belongs in the headlines thread. Let’s keep this thread focused on tonight’s show

  • karenw

Is Danny preaching? Did I just hear him ask people to come up, accept the Lord and get baptized?

lol … I think it’s the bad sound .. he was asking people to get on board and buy some pies

damn … the sound’s cut out just when it’s Adam time

  • GeminiDolly

Great, the sound completely dies on Adam.

  • dyg

    Dying sound :-(

  • dsp

    are there fireworks yet????

  • shadow-rider

It figures that it would be fairly clear for Danny and then nothing for Adam. Well I hear screaming. I could faintly hear his voice.

  • CindyM

    edit: SERIOUSLY. STAY ON TOPIC

Adam fans will enjoy the video clip of Adam that Rickey’s showing with the cellcast, even without sound.

Okay, I’m probably very late in the game here, but I just checked out the cellcast. I’ve never watched/listened to one before, and I’m mystified (in a bad way). WTF is that shite?!? Nothing but *extremely* garbled static, and some goofy guy in glasses & a yellow tshirt (who I assume is Rickey) bopping around like a demented chipmunk. Oy vey.

  • Norcal2009

This stuff is all new to me this year. I had no idea there were such things as cellcasts. What the heck? Adam is to blame for my new addiction to this website, my twitter and my chatting. I savor every piece of info I get and appreciate all the “sharing” that goes on in here. The pics and tweets are amazing.

    Question to the pros…

At the meet and greets at the concerts is it possible to get a picture with the idols or do you have to have a back stage pass or something? How early should one go to get in line for meet and greets?

  • Q3

beckytweetsWow, lots of people taking off now.. And theyre sitting again while Kris sings No Boundaries…

  • Maria22

Oh my! Bowie medley – black tank top yesterday (thanks for that stunning photo Susan M ! :) , vest tonight…hmm? Wonder what he’ll wear in Vancouver tomorrow ? Can’t wait !

ROFLMAO!! Spelling errors aside, this is friggin’ hilarious!!!! :lol_tb:

  • LisaE

This just goes to show that two people at the same concert can interpret something completely different:

beckytweets: Wow, lots of people taking off now.. And theyre sitting again while Kris sings No Boundaries…

richardrushfield: The strength of krisallen is proved by fact that the crowd is staying on it’s feet thru no boundaries

These opinions could vary based on seating and so many things…(including Rushfield avoiding the Mansfield uproar of Sunday…eek!)

  • GeminiDolly

I feel for Kris having to sing NB.

  • dsp

norcal- i think idols come out of their buses around 2 or 3 and then after concert to meet fans—-thats my understanding. seems u have to know someone to get a backstage pass

  • Q3

    Different report from Richard:

richardrushfieldThe strength of krisallen is proved by fact that the crowd is staying on it’s feet thru no boundaries #idoltour09

  • Maria22

‘The strength of krisallen is proved by fact that the crowd is staying on it’s feet thru no boundaries #idoltour09′ from Richard’s tweet

  • Q3

    beckytweetsGirls r shouting I love u Kris Allen! Lol…

beckytweetsAint no sunshine while she’s gone… So much more heartfelt… :)

    :clap_tb:

  • Maria22

LOL, I noticed the difference from Richard’s to Becky’s tweet, hope they were on their feet for the song and not heading for the exits ?

  • GeminiDolly

Rushfield: This krisallen kid. We’ll be hearing from him

  • CindyM

Becky’s view seems to be from pretty far away. Richard’s look closer. He’s floor seats, I think from his pics.

  • girlygirl

There’s lots of screaming coming over the crappy cell cast so I doubt that “lots” of people have left. Maybe a handful fo people around beckytweets left. But it sounds like Kris is getting a good reaction. It’s so hard to tell from the cell casts and even the youtubes…that’s why I NEED this Staples Center date to hurry up and get here, so I can see for myself!

The cellcaster just said everyone is on their feet at the end of Hey Jude

  • Q3

There are a lot of reports on twitter from people who have left the concert heading home — and there is traffic. It’s a long drive if you live North of Seattle or on the Eastside.

Just a guess — but maybe it depends where people are sitting. Richard is way up front. It is a “school night”!

  • girlygirl

    I hear Don’t Stop Believing

  • BestAI

Rushfield didn’t say much about Adam’s singing. Maybe he doesn’t like rock?

  • girlygirl

I’ll repeat myself — if you spend that much money for a ticket, how hard is it to stay an extra 20 minutes? That’s just rude. And it isn’t going to make that much difference in terms of getting out of the parking lot and getting home.

  • CindyM

His tweets from the Portland concert were really positive for Adam. Said he was amazed and dumbfounded by WLL. I think he’s just not repeating himself. He was very complimentary of all of them. Can’t figure out why he said he hadn’t heard starlight before, when it was performed at the portland show.

  • AC

the difference in standing and sitting might be where they’re at.. like on the floor, most people will stand because if the person in front of you gets up, so will you or you won’t see. it’s most likely the sides that sit back down since it’s elevated at an angle.

  • lola

Rushfield sounds like Paula tonight…….afraid of fans attack maybe?

  • CindyM

I agree girlygirl, it’s just rude. I’m staying until the last note is sung. I don’t get why people do that.

  • iluvai

Someone said “vest” and Vancouver. I love Vancouver. Great place. So glad you guys get to see Idols there!!! Oh, and vest on Adam. Must be nice.

  • Q3

I’ll repeat myself ‘” if you spend that much money for a ticket, how hard is it to stay an extra 20 minutes? That’s just rude. And it isn’t going to make that much difference in terms of getting out of the parking lot and getting home.

Who knows how many people The photos people have posted it looks full.

But to be fair — most people at this concert came from the Seattle Area — and it could easily be a 40+ mile, 1 hour drive for most people.

I just talked to a group who drove over from Spokane, WA today and are on their way back. — that’s about 300 miles and 5 hours eash way.

  • lola

I don’t think some people left the scene. Though I am an Adam fan, I also want to see Kris perform and of course I can’t leave until Adam hits the last note of their finale.

  • girlygirl

Especially because, as I say, going to a concert or any event like this is NOT cheap. Between the ticket, the parking and whatever souvenirs or concessions you buy. It makes no sense to me to leave early. It reminds me of the lovely L.A. sports fans who show up half and hour after the game starts and leave well before it ends — and they don’t have a rep for being good fans, for just that reason! If it’s that much trouble to stick around a few minutes longer, why bother to go at all?

  • deez

I heard really different reports from Monday…and now again tonight! Either lots of people are leaving, or lots of people are into it (it can’t be both). I don’t buy the “it matters what section you’re in” explanation. I’ve been in arenas before and I can tell the difference. I’d like to hear a report from someone there who is truly objective….maybe a Scott fan who couldn’t care less about the Adam vs Kris fanwar, Lol!!

I really hope everyone is respectful to all the idols!! I’m a Kradamite, and get annoyed when people bash either of them. Danny wasn’t my favorite, but I would clap and enjoy his performance just the same!!! Purposefully leaving early or sitting on your hands to prove a point is really silly. From what I could see of Portland on Youtube most of the concert goers looked to be past 30…so in that respect, that behavior is just unacceptable. (providing it actually happened…b/c who knows?????)

  • BestAI

Could be he heard about the comments on here and saw all the pics posted and decided to wear something more flattering. People who saw him in person last Sunday and the rehearsal said he was tall and slim (and very, very sexy-looking).

  • Maria22

Yes iluvai, Vancouver is great, wish it was sunny so the idols would get to see the ‘setting’ (mountains) tomorrow, it’ll probably be like Tacoma was today, drizzly…I’m not sure how I’ll cope with work all day tomorrow before the concert….

  • Susan M.

Wow, the pics all seem really far away tonight. Maybe it’s only the ones I’ve clicked on (which were most, I think). Maybe the Tacoma Dome isn’t as conducive to tighter shots. Hopefully, some more will trickle in. That’s an outdoor venue, isn’t it?

  • penzap

WOW I feel for Kris. I read a few tweets that said people were leaving during NB. Not cool.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

If people are leaving, it’s because they want to beat the traffic. It happens at concerts and sporting events ALL the time. I doubt it has anything to do with Kris.

  • BestAI

Rushfield sounds like Paula tonight’ ¦’ ¦.afraid of fans attack maybe?

He gave favorable reviews to Kris last Sunday. It was Brian Mansfield who gave glowing reviews to Adam, and the Kris fans were really angry. Besides Rushfield really likes Kris. In the panel discussion before the finale, he favored Kris while all the others favored Adam (can’t remember, possibly one didn’t commit).

  • Maria22

I think before I start judging people for leaving I would need to be sure they actually left – and also to remind myself that people have other lives – 1-2 hour drives home and then work tomorrow morning – the same for me tomorrow night, but I’ll stay till the end…but that’s my choice…

  • Q3

I heard really different reports from Monday’ ¦and now again tonight! Either lots of people are leaving, or lots of people are into it (it can’t be both).

It could actually be both are true. A couple hundred people in cars could look like a lot. And the arena would still be very full.

I just know that I had a number of friends there and one group left after Heartless — because they had a really long drive home to Spokane and they saw the Portlant show on Sunday. (And three of them have to work tomorrow.) So just saying that people could leave and not be rude.

  • Q3

Wow, the pics all seem really far away tonight. Maybe it’s only the ones I’ve clicked on (which were most, I think). Maybe the Tacoma Dome isn’t as conducive to tighter shots. Hopefully, some more will trickle in. That’s an outdoor venue, isn’t it?

    Let’s hope.

  • girlygirl

I’ve never found leaving early helps much in beating the traffic…not here in L.A., anyway.

But whatever. Too bad they miss what appears to be a great set (and fun finale number) by leaving early.

  • GeminiDolly

Adam is still wearing the bedazzled vest thingy. I was hoping that would change. That denim on denim does not belong on such a fine specimen.

  • snuffles

I’m sure people in Rushfields section were standing and people in BeckyTweet’s section were leaving (from the pics she took it looks like she was pretty far up).

I doubt it has anything to do with Kris and more about beating the traffic and getting the kids home and into bed. Or maybe they were staking out their spots by the buses early.

  • BestAI

Is it raining there? I wonder if they’re going to have meet and greet.

Someone posted that the person who was with Adam last Sun for signing wouldn’t let anyone take a pic of Adam. Are they being really protective of him?

It takes too much time to pose for pictures with everyone. It’s much easier and quicker to get him down the line when he’s just signing autographs.

    http://twitter.com/dark_victory

  • adamlover

thank you mj and all the twitters and postings…its the next best thing to being there. its terrible if ppl leave during kris’ set, its probably to get to the parking lot..just the same way some ppl leave before the 9th inning.

i am going for adam…but will enjoy kris as well and wait until they kick me out before i leave the concert in long island, new york!

  • deez

I realize people want to beat traffic, is 20 minutes gonna make that much difference?

Why not leave before Adam gets thru????..then they could REALLY beat the traffic!!! It’s b/c they want to see Adam. And YES, they are disrespecting Kris by doing that.

It’s different for a sporting event, there aren’t 10 teams playing one after the other. If you leave in the 7th inning of a Dodger’s game…you aren’t missing the Dodgers just the last 2 innings. Uggghhhh!! I just don’t get it.

  • GeminiDolly

Thats what I heard too. That Adam would not take pictures with anyone because of the guide with him. However, Kris was taking pix with fans, so who knows???

  • SparklesATL

It’s not rude to leave a concert early or get there late! It’s my money and I can do what I want. IF I go to the Duluth Ga concert, I’m arriving in time to see Allison, going to stretch my legs during Danny and staying till the end.

From what I could hear, tonight’s concert sounded better than last night. It can only keep getting better.

  • Truthiness

I heard really different reports from Monday’ ¦and now again tonight! Either lots of people are leaving, or lots of people are into it (it can’t be both). I don’t buy the ‘it matters what section you’re in’ explanation.

I think seat location is very valid. Someone in front, and/or the middle, surrounded by people, isn’t going to be able to see everyone around them. Whereas someone in the cheap seats which are higher up, and depending again on the section, is going to get the birdeye view.

But let me echo, I think it’s rude to walk out, or boo, or whatever for anyone. Because it’s classless and because dude, you spent a lot of money for the show. Why not just stick around and enjoy what you can? I also think that Adam will get his share of negative audience reaction at different venues. Different crowds have different faves.

  • BeckyMD

It’s kinda odd that Gustavo didn’t comment anything about kris’ performance.

Isn’t NB the second song in Kris’ set? If people left during NB, they would miss 4-5 songs. That’s about 20-30 mins.

And didn’t Matt and Danny say in their interview that this venue was much smaller than the first one? Only about 7000-8000 seats?

Anyway, I think whoever left earlier, it’s their loss.

  • iluvai

I’m so lost about what is going on. Whatever. Tacoma Dome!!!! I remember when they built that thing. Yep, I’m old. LOL.

I hope you guys had fun that got to go there!!!!

Traffic is probably horrible. I’ve lived in Seattle, Redmond, Renton, Tacoma, Bellevue, Auburn, Steilacoom, and Lakewood. Traffic sucks from 10 years ago. I’m sure it’s worse now. I know it’s worse now, because I’ve visited.

If people left early, it has nothing to do with Kris. I’m really proud of all of the Idols. But I do understand people wanting to avoid traffic. There is one highway going N/S, one kind of side road going N/S, and two highways going east/west. Not a lot of options.

I plan on staying through the whole Idol concert, every last minute of it in Newark.

  • Q3

It’s not raining and the Tacoma Dome is not an outdoor arena. It is has large dome made of wood. What else would you expect in the Pacific Northwest.

And although it is not LA when it comes to traffic — the Tacoma Dome is about 40 miles south of Seattle with only one freeway to take North. And traffic there is a mess because of all the water and bridges.

  • css

Deez said: “I’d like to hear a report from someone there who is truly objective’ ¦.maybe a Scott fan who couldn’t care less about the Adam vs Kris fanwar, Lol!!”

Hi, Deez. Well, I can’t claim to be objective in that way, because I’m a huge Adam fanatic, but I dislike fanwarring and also love Allison and think Kris is a great person and enjoy some of his music, BUT I will tell you that I was at the Portland concert and saw NO ONE leave early, and heard NO booing. Now certainly, there could have been people leaving that I didn’t see, but I had a view of the whole Floor and a lot of the stands — I was at the very back of the Floor, and I didn’t see anyone leave. Furthermore, people were super into Kris’s set! Everyone, at least on the Floor, stood through all of Heartless, then got up again and stood through all of Bright Lights and Hey Jude, plus of course DSB. People loved Kris! And I have to say, even though I’ve never really completely loved his voice, I had a blast during his set and loved every minute. And I fell in love with his rendition of Bright Lights!

It was a Sunday evening, though, and a smaller city, so that could be a factor in people not feeling like they needed to beat the traffic. Or it could be that people in Portland are politer, lol — they are pretty nice! But still, no. I was a little worried since it was the first concert, wondering if people would be rude to Kris, or actually for that matter to Adam ( or possibly Danny). No one was rude about anyone. At worst, people just stood quietly or sat during something they weren’t into, but everyone around me clapped for everyone, and there were people around me whose “Idol” was Kris, Danny and Adam. In fact, a lot of people cheered wildly for people who I know weren’t “their” Idol based on conversations with them.:)

  • penzap

The only way I would leave early at a sporting event was if the game was a blow out and my team was losing. If I spent $$ on a ticket to see someone in concert I sure wouldn’t get up half way through their performance to beat traffic??? It’s just rude to leave before the concert is over.

  • AC

hehe.. I agree with the poster who said that we should listen to what a Scott fan has to say. haha.

and from past idol concerts, there are a very few that leave a little early. i remember people left during Cook last year even though he was the fave. also, I left early during Taylor in season 5 =X. Please don’t kill me, it was the second show i saw and the parking lot sucked.. and I was younger then.. =) hehe.

let’s just talk about Adam’s vest! i hope he gets rid of it! or he can make all his fans happy and just wear the bedazzled vest. haha

  • mgk

Here is a link to a twitter page of someone who was at the concert. He has a few crisp pictures and says that he’ll post videos and more pictures later.

  • BestAI

It takes too much time to pose for pictures with everyone. It’s much easier and quicker to get him down the line when he’s just signing autographs.

Yes, that does make sense. If I couldn’t take a pic of Adam after meet and greet, no point in going. Can they sneak in a pic w/o Adam stopping for one?

  • CindyM

“Someone posted that the person who was with Adam last Sun for signing wouldn’t let anyone take a pic of Adam. Are they being really protective of him?”

I saw a video of him after the show signing autographs and people were taking pictures. Someone asked if they could take a picture WITH him and the handler said no. All the fans were behind a rope or barrier of some kind. He was really friendly with all the fans and signed alot of stuff. One lady in the video had about 3 or 4 things to sign and he signed one, then she yelled she needed more signed so he came back down the line and signed another one for her, with a smile. Weren’t pictures she had, looked like some flyer or something.

  • Q3

iluvai, looks like we answers the question at the same time. I also lived there when they build the Tacoma Dome. And also when they blew up the King Dome.

I moved there in the late 70′s and the traffic was bad and it keeps getting worse. The geography and spraw just makes it really hard. More like the SF Bay area than LA.

People from Seattle are rumored to be nice. I hope they didn’t diss anyone. That makes me sad. However Traffic is horrid there. Try leaving a Seattle Seahawks game or anything else for that matter. Not so much fun… LOL

CA / San Fran traffic is worse. But still….

  • GeminiDolly

    blyan: Kris Allen! http://twitpic.com/9nt30

  • deez

Did this happen last year??? Did people walk out b4 Cook was done? If this happens all the time..then it’s probably traffic related. If it’s a new thing, then it’s Kris-related. The fact is you can leave at ANY TIME to beat traffic. I find it strange they all seemed to pick basically the same time to go.

Wish the tour organizers would mix it up so the order wasn’t always the same.

Wow, I just heard Rickey say that people in Tacoma booed Kris.
Hope he was joking.(I’m listening to his Aftershow)

  • Maria22

deez “I realize people want to beat traffic, is 20 minutes gonna make that much difference?

Why not leave before Adam gets thru????..then they could REALLY beat the traffic!!! It’s b/c they want to see Adam. And YES, they are disrespecting Kris by doing that.”

I wouldn’t assume that ONLY Adam fans left—I’m going tomorrow for Adam but will stay to hear Kris out of respect and then have a 2 hour drive home and go to work in the morning!!! Perhaps the fans who left were Michael or Anoop fans, perhaps Danny fans ?

  • Maria22

There were a lot of fan photos posted following the Portland concert with Adam and Kris (and others) including lots of hugging ones, wonder why they are not letting him take photos now ? (since it seems to be the handler according to the tweets who is saying no photos)?

  • girlygirl

I do understand about people maybe wanting to beat traffic especially if they have a long drive. And I’m sure that the majority of the people attending these concerts aren’t going to be deliberately rude or disrespectful to any of the Idols. I’m hoping that there won’t be any real ugliness toward any of the Idols during this tour — I don’t think there will be (fingers, toes and eyes crossed)

Maybe it’s me — I’m such a diehard when it comes to this stuff. I often actually end up sitting in my seat after the event is over for awhile so that some of the traffic actually clears out before I try to leave! And I’ve sat through pouring rain until 3 a.m. just to watch my favorite baseball team play. Yup, I’m just weird…

PS _ Wonder if the Idols are heading to Vancouver right after they finish with the meet&greet/after party stuff, or are staying in Tacoma overnight. How far is it to Vancouver from Tacoma — 2-3 hours?

  • CindyM

I don’t think it’s Kris related. Alot of people seem to leave early from concerts. I was at the David Cook concert last Tuesday in Santa Fe, and people started leaving as soon as he first starting singing his encore. Alot of people traveled to Santa Fe from Abq (me included) which is about 80 miles away. So, to get a head start and not get home so late they left. I stayed till the bitter (joyous) end cuz I’m with Girlygirl, I want the whole experience, I paid for a ticket, I want to enjoy the whole thing.

  • Calliope

Here is a link to a twitter page of someone who was at the concert. He has a few crisp pictures and says that he’ll post videos and more pictures later.

The post about wearing Adam’s colors made me laugh.

As for leaving early, it’s a combination of traffic and possible indifference to the end (not just Kris, but the group number). If you were a huge fan of who is last or wanted to finish the show, you would stay. It’s not necessarily meant as an affront. And while I totally disagreeing with booing (that’s really rude for a music show; sports it is fine), leaving at any point is one’s personal decision because it’s their money. You may miss something (I went to an Arsenal game where most of the crowd left before halftime to beat the bathroom crowd and missed a goal, and left before they finished because they were losing and missed a goal), but you deal with that. I don’t necessarily find it a rude gesture. I know some people disagree with me. I have left before the last encore at some shows since I wasn’t that into it and I wasn’t fussed about finishing the show. I don’t think it was rude or a waste of my money.

  • aek

Someone posted that the person who was with Adam last Sun for signing wouldn’t let anyone take a pic of Adam. Are they being really protective of him?

I remember them doing this with Taylor back in Season 5. I think it seemed to make it easier on him because he didn’t have to tell the fans no, the handler did. But yeah, it was about time. They really aren’t there too long to sign after the show.

You have a better chance before the show than after.

  • snuffles

You can take a picture OF Adam, but just not WITH Adam after the show by the buses. I’d think you’d have a better chance of getting a pic with him if you catch him before the show. The crowds are much smaller then.

  • deez

    To Css:

Thanks for the info!!! I love both Adam and Kris!!! But for some reason, I feel protective of Kris (stupid, I know) It just seems that Adam can take care of himself, lol! Poor Kris, he just seems like a fish out of water. It’s good to hear some objectivity! Thanks!!!!

  • CindyM

    This^^^^
Adam and Kris SHARE alot of fans. Adam sings the end note of the finale song, so alot of his fans would stay. I really do think it’s just a traffic thing and like MJ said, some people just do that..concert, sporting event, whatever.

  • AC

is it just adam that you can’t take a pic of? maybe it’s to get him all the way down the line to sign autographs?

  • deez

I didn’t mean it was all Adam fans who were leaving. I just meant that they should’ve shown Kris the same respect they showed everyone else.(no matter whose fan they were) I just used Adam as an example b/c obviously he was next to last….sorry if it didn’t sound right, Adam is great and so are the VAST majority of his fans!!

  • tierbee

Did this happen last year??? Did people walk out b4 Cook was done?

Yes, from what I remember reading last year, people would walk out before he was done… some to get to the buses and get a good spot, some to beat traffic, some who knows why.

  • Maria22

In good traffic probably 2-3 hours…(Tacoma -Vancouver)

  • Q3

    Nice pic of finale:

    Don’t Stop Believin’
    http://twitpic.com/9nujf

From this picture it looks like people are not as close to the stage. In Portland people were really close.

Also, there were apparently no audio problems tonight (I’ve talk to a few people who were there and in different parts of the TDome) — unlike Portland. So maybe there will be some really good recordings.

The food at the TDome may be lacking (as Richard twittered) but the acoustics are usually really good.

  • GeminiDolly

I saw video of Megan taking pictures with fans after the show. Someone posted Kris was taking pictures with fans after the show.

  • BestAI

Maybe there were too many people wanting Adam’s pics and autograph?

  • BeckyMD

    Did Kris get boo’d?

    http://twitter.com/thethingiskat

She lost me tho. Allison introduced top 3?? I find it’s hard to believe what she tweet.

  • BestAI

Q3, the person who went to the rehearsal said the sound /acoustics is really bad in Portland; that is why he/she gave up front row tickets to the Sunday show.

  • AC

by the way, does anyone know if Adam’s handler is british too? I heard an accent on Kris’s handler and it just make me think. hehe

also was it me or did the set up with the stage look better with the screens on the side too? or did it have it yesterday but i wasn’t paying attention?

  • lola

I don’t know about not being able to take pictures with Adam but some fans were able to do so before the show in Portland. But after the show when he was signing some autographs, I did see one lady always beside him that seems to guard him on what he’s doing. I also noticed a ‘tv” camera following him while signing. I was thinking they might be taking some footage for his future CD promotion or the Season 8 Idol tour DVD.

  • CindyM

I saw video of Megan taking pictures with fans after the show. Someone posted Kris was taking pictures with fans after the show.

Was that in the line or the afterparty that fans won tickets to go to?? In the videos I saw of them in the line after the concert, they were just signing and the fans were behind a rope or some kind of barrier.

  • girlygirl

I saw pictures taken of fans WITH Adam at the Portland show. I think these may have been taken at the private after party thing, though. That girl Jess on the IDF forum got her picture taken with both Adam AND Kris.

So maybe you have to have the AP tix to get your picture taken with Adam? (rather than just taking a picture of him). Not sure if it’s the same deal with the other Idols. It looked like Kris was letting people take pictures with him at the tour buses after the Portland show. Same with Matt and Allison (those are the only ones I saw footage of doing the meet & greet stuff).

It may depend on how much time they have to do this stuff? I read one report saying that they really rushed through the meet&greet before the show tonight. So who knows?

  • mgk

Perhaps the people who won the chance for a meet and greet were allowed to have their pictures taken with the Idols, and the ones who waited by the bus were only allowed to take pictures of the Idols.

    ETA:

Tacoma to Vancouver: It’s more like 4 hours at least. Just sayin.

  • GeminiDolly

Tweets are saying Kris Allen got booed singing NB. Wonder if thats true?

  • girlygirl

Huh…I thought it wasn’t quite that far. And they have to go through customs too. Hope all the Idols remembered their passports!

  • iluvai

Booing is rude. I hope that didn’t happen. Ugh….

  • lola

If Kris got booed on NB, then it’s because of the song and not Kris. Besides, we are not really sure if this is true. And I am pretty sure it’s just a rumor.

  • GeminiDolly

He should totally drop it from his set. I agree, if there was booing its the song, NOT Kris.

  • riss

Not sure about pics at Tacoma but I was at the portland show and by the buses after and the idols were taking pics just Adam’s person with him was saying he couldn’t but I got a pic with Kris.

  • Anastasia72071

With regard to people leaving events early – I also don’t really understand it. I’ve paid good money and I’m damn well going to stay to the bitter end (even if I get tickets for free, I still stay right to the end). Some people go for “instant gratification”, I think I’m more of the “gimme as much gratification as I can possibly get” variety. LOL

Having said that, I have experienced some horrible traffic jams in Vancouver – most notably after the Symphony of Fire fireworks competition at the beach downtown, where an average of 400,000 people show up (on four separate nights). Now THAT’S a traffic jam! …Vancouver is so awkward to get out to the ‘burbs when the traffic is bad; unless you want to go WAY out of your way, it’s a like a tunnel or gauntlet, and you’re stuck.

I am counting myself extremely lucky for the concert tomorrow night. My ‘commute’ home on foot will likely take me, after exiting the door @ GM Place, around 3 minutes at most and I’ll be back in my apartment. Gotta love it.

  • LaurelG

Tweets are saying Kris Allen got booed singing NB. Wonder if thats true?

That makes me sad. Hope it’s just some isolated cases and Kris didn’t hear.

I plan on staying for the entire concert because I want to hear ALL the idols. (Although if Sarver had won, maybe not, heh.)

  • iluvai

I mapped my mom’s address from Tacoma to Blaine WA. It was 2 hours and 38 minutes. That is still a little ways from Vancouver plus customs. My experience is that it takes about 4 hours. Whatever!!! LOL!!!! Can’t wait to see the next concert vids and pics.

  • GeminiDolly

Wonder why they arent letting Adam take pix with people if everyone else can?? Not cool. Hopefully, it was just a Portland thing.

If Kris got booed on NB, then it’s because of the song and not Kris.

From what I’m reading on Twitter it sounds like it started when he was introduced. Click on the link upthread. (kind of puts a damper on the leaving early b/c of traffic theory…I guess there really were a lot of rude people)

    You stay classy, Tacoma.

  • BestAI

Not sure about pics at Tacoma but I was the portland show by the buses after and the idols were taking pics just Adam’s person with him was saying he couldn’t but I got a pic with Kris.

I saw a video of Adam signing, and I could hear him saying every few seconds, “I’m sorry.” He must have been apologizing for not being able to have his pic taken.

  • Q3

This sounds like a good change:

LambertLover22: Adam lambert took off his jacket right after slow ride not in middle of bowie medley..c’mon take it offi n duet XD (twitter)

I talked to some friends who went to Tacoma concert and were driving home — 1 a Kris fan and 2 who love Danny. But they are all fairly objective.

They said everyone was good or great except Megan. Megan’s Amy Whouse song they said was really off. Matt started off really good but had a rough time staying on key on a couple of songs.

Adam got biggest crowd response. But of the first half, Anoop got the most response and almost everyone up on their feet for My Perogative. They thought Anoop was far better then they expected.

They gave really good reviews to Lil and Michael, too. Said Kris and Danny were both really, really good. Kris was best on ANS and Bright Lights — they tought better than the Portland video. Crowd was not into Danny’s speech but his songs were well received. Maria Maria and Wish were their fav Danny performance. The two Danny fans loved the inspirational speech. Thought it was the best thing Danny did.

Alison was spectacular, best except for Adam who was amazing. Starlight, MW and SR were their fav Adam performances. Crowd was wild for the whole Adam set.

Finally, I asked them about people leaving. He said traffic was bad getting there and that some people left early to avoid a repeat. But almost everyone stayed until the end. Also, they said they had four people next to them who had been at the Portland concert, decided to come to Tacoma after seeing the first show, but were only in their seats for Alison and Adam.

  • ross

It just seems that Adam can take care of himself, lol! Poor Kris, he just seems like a fish out of water.

No, he doesn’t. And Adam has said many times Kris “grounds” him. I’m tired of “poor Kris” comments. Kris is on top of the world right now, and he’s having a blast.

Um, did anyone listen to the horrible cellcast? I happened to, and came in at the start of Ain’t No Sunshine, and people were screaming when they heard him start the song. Same with Bright Lights. Now, I would prefer they were listening quietly, like they seemed to, in Portland, but for those who said last night people didn’t scream for Kris, they sure did tonight.

  • riss

Oh I want to be clear we could take pics of Adam just not with him.

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

I’m sure if there were people booing it was only a handful. I suspect it happens every year at every AI concert. I’m sure Kris couldn’t hear it over the screaming and clapping.

  • AC

unless i hear audio, it’s most likely just a few people around her that doesn’t like him, because from other twitters, I’m reading that the crowd loved Kris too. I’ve been to a lot of idol concerts and the only thing that elicits very audible boos is if they said the city wrong. so whatever, can’t please the haters.

anyways there’s going to be a lot of youtube videos anyways that you can hear the reaction

  • girlygirl

One of the tweeters said she was sitting by some people who booed Kris when he was being introduced (?) and then during his set.

I’m sorry…WTF is the matter with people like that. Why would you boo anyone? These kids have done nothing wrong…all they are trying to do is establish themselves as musicians. You don’t have to like them or their music, but they are still people who don’t deserve that kind of juvenile crap. Maybe they should take a minute to think about whether they would want other “fans” (I’m putting this is quotes because IMO anyone who acts like an immature jerk isn’t a true fan) booing whoever their favorite happens to be.

This just makes me so freaking mad. I bet not one of those people who booed Kris tonight would have the guts to do that to his face.

(I’m overreacting probably…sorry…but this just totally ticks me off)

  • Vada

I don’t believe the ‘booing’ story. Rushfield didn’t mention any booing. People can tweet literally anything, but it doesn’t make it true.

A few boos among thousands of cheers are only going to annoy the people who have to sit in close proximity to morons.

I listened to the last of Adam’s set and all of Kris’ set on Rickey cellcast tonight, and the screams and applause were very loud for Kris.

For some reason, Kris’ voice comes through Rickey’s cellcasts, where Adam’s does not. Perhaps the backgound music volume has something to do with it.

  • CindyM

If a few idiots booed, I don’t think it would effect Kris in the slightest. They’ve already said that with the in-ears, they can’t hear the crowd. There’s always going to be disrepectful morons in every city. Nature of the beast.

  • Anastasia72071

Yeah, no kidding! I’m betting it will take them a while to get through the border – even if the AI people have all their ducks in a row – and then, even if they cross @ Blaine, it’s still a good 40 minutes probably to downtown Vancouver (and that’s in a car, with no traffic problems) – I imagine the buses will take longer.

Well, he did come out last and there was a film crew with him so maybe due to time constraints he was told he couldn’t take pics WITH anyone. Must have been filming first concert stuff for the LKL show this coming Friday.

  • Michelle

Even if the twitterers just *made up* the stories about the booing, is that any better? God I know people say “fanwars happen every year” and “it goes both ways” but a certain segment of fans seems especially nasty and rude this year.

  • isisdagmar

I do feel badly for him that he has to sing NB. But other than that, he’s got pretty much everything in life going for him, and that’s kind of amazing. So no “poor Kris” (just “why does that song exist in the world?”) from me. :) He seems like he’s loving all of it, which is great.

  • AC

I live in the Seattle area and I was so disappointed that it was cloudy today. If you come here in the summer, you’ll leave either thinking that this is the most beautiful place on God’s earth, or that is the most dismal depressing spot in the universe and how could anyone ever stand to live here. I hated the sweltering summers of my Midwest upbringing, so I was actually enchanted when someone told me that they usually had to wear jackets to the 4rth of July fireworks (it’s true). Most summer days here are absolute perfection, and it gets cool in the evening, but we do sometimes get the party-pooping drizzlers. (The whole winter is drizzlers but it never gets really, really cold – of course this is again the perspective of a midwesterner who took it as a matter of course to tromp through knee high snow to get to school).

I wanted the kids to see it at its breathtaking best, so I hope that the sun and the mountains come out tomorrow. I think it will probably take them 4-5 hours to get to Vancouver. Depends on traffic, you can get to Seattle from Tacoma in 30 minutes or 2 hours, just depends, and it’s about 3 hours to Vancouver from here.

  • aek

I totally agree with everything that you said. But I still find it hard to believe that this is anything other than isolated booing here and there amongst the crowd. I have been to 6 AI concerts and I have never heard any booing. So it just seems weird to hear.

Kris was not a polarizing contestant at all. I can imagine that some people dont care about him one way or the other (thus the early leaving), but it seems hard to believe that he would have people booing him. Of course, I wasn’t there, but it’s really hard to believe. If true, it’s truly sickening.

  • BeckyMD

I saw a couple of Megan’s review, not so positive. Poor Megan. she said she was nervous in Portland and hoped get better the second night.

  • http://www.TheAdamLambertConnection.com/forum flynnsgirl

One of the reasons that Adam is not taking pics with the fans is there just isn’t enough time, if he had to stop at each person and take a pic he would never get through the line. I am friendly with head of security and this is what he told us. I saw it last year with Cook and Archie at different venues. They were signing stuff and trying to move down the line. There is also some kind of deal where they have to be off the arena grounds by midnight, I think it’s an insurance thing, so they move them pretty fast to get them in the buses and out of there.

Want to clear something up, the term “after party” is a joke, they heard you into a small crappy lit room where the Idols are standing around signing and taking pics. It’s great because you get to spend a few minutes with your favorites, but it’s in no way a party.

Ditto on the other side of the border in Vancouver. Today felt like friggin’ November. I’m really really hoping this weather system moves east by the morning!

  • girlygirl

What, no “party” in the after party! Man, I’m shocked!!! (LOL)

Maybe at the “after after” party??? I don’t know…do groupies still exist? They must, right? In some form, anyway…But if they do, would they bother to show up at an AI tour? Might be a little too “PG” for them…

  • Michelle

girlygirl — lol, i’m sure there are those who attempt to be groupies — but I bet there’s a “morality” clause prohibiting the contestants from, erm, putting themselves into compromising situations while on this family friendly tour ;)

  • deez

Well, if there were boos that were audible…not just a few crazies…. I hope Adam tells them to STFU. Adam is such a great person. He so does not deserve some of these loons. (I’m not talking about the REAL fans…99%)

Seriously, I don’t know what is wrong with some “ADULTS”! I’ve seen grown-ups taunt their kid’s opponents at Little League games! I mean like 40 year olds trash talking 5th graders!!!! That’s the same sort that boos these people who are trying to do nothing more than entertain them.

  • molls

I just got back from the show.

I was down on the floor, and I didn’t hear a single boo. I thought the crowd received Kris very well. In fact, I didn’t hear anyone being booed. Definitely more enthusiasm for some more than others, but that’s to be expected.

I’m sorry, though, the part where Danny started rambling about his wife seemed to turn into a major preaching. It was pissing me off, it seemed to go on forever. The part that put me over the edge was when he said “Good things are coming out of her death”. JMO, but that was a major, major cringe-worthy moment for me.

Allison, Adam and Kris were all spectacular.

And to be perfectly honest, all of them had much stronger voices live that I expected, with the exception of Megan. She was also trying waaaay to hard to be sexy. She’s a pretty girl, she doesn’t need to wear the miniscule skirts, the 6-inch heels and vamp it all over the place.

I got some awesome pics. I guess if you take a massive amount of them, several will come out nice!

Very fun time. And I agree with the others about the first half of the show. Anoop was definitely the best amongst that group – best voice, and best charisma.

Adam was definitely the hit overall amongst the crowd. People were going nuts.

  • Q3

Most important — Adam must loose that bedazzled denim outfit. It’s just so bad.

unless i hear audio, it’s most likely just a few people around her that doesn’t like him, because from other twitters, I’m reading that the crowd loved Kris too.

It appears to have been just a few people. A couple of tweets reported that the crowd was still cheering for Adam, some were yelling Adam’s name and cheering, when Kris came on stage. And people booed. And there are twitter reports that Kris was booed by some fans during Heartless and also during NoBo.

And a lot of people twittered that it was rude. Here’s one example:

karendee: @thethingiskat WHAT? so not cool. poor Kris =( he’s not even my fave but i wanna cut a bitch for anyone who boos for anyone >.

Hey folks! I’m back home now and mostly have my hearing back. I was sitting on the floor pretty much in front of the sound techs and it was LOUD where I was (but I have pretty sensitive hearing). Some of Adam’s set seemed almost distorted to me because of the volume–but the others around me didn’t seem to mind.

I didn’t hear any booing at Kris from where I was–we were cheering him and everyone was on their feet. I will be posting a longer recap tomorrow after I get some sleep.

Let’s wait for the youtubes. They will tell the true story about the crowd noise. I think a few twitters are trying to create a controversy, where one doesn’t exist.

I think that the people who are spreading a booing rumor may have an agenda.

  • carolinacharms

Important people, ya know, have places to go and people to see. Heh.

  • deez

    To molls:

Thanks for the update. That’s good to hear, maybe the booers were few and far between.

Kradison!!!! (BTW…how can Adam’s voice be any stronger than you thought??? It’s already off the charts, lol!!!)

Good to hear Alli and Kris sounded great…I heard speculation that Kris’s voice wouldn’t be able to hold up doing that many songs…good to hear that’s not the case.

  • lizardino

Adam didn’t wear his bedazzled jeans tonight. I have a feeling he will be changing up his outfits pretty often, unlike some of the others. The vest under his jacket tonight was damn hot.

  • girlygirl

Maybe Adam was doing press or had some other reason why he didn’t come out. But I’m not lliking some of what I’m hearing about how he’s not supposed to take any photos with the fans. Why the special treatment? It’s one thing to say, he’s only able to spend x amount of time at the fences or the buses (which the handlers should let the fans know ahead of time to minimize grumbling) — it’s another to start acting like a :diva”. Adam’s never come off as a diva before, so horribly his handlers aren’t screwing this up for him.

Meanwhile, thanks for the Adam and Allison videos. Does anyone have any for Kris, Matt or Anoop?

I agree win sunsurger. unless the person that booed tells people specifically who they are a fan for, let’s just all agree to call them jerks. haha

Also, it could be that Adam is recording late and that’s why he couldn’t make it to sign or whatever?

ETA: okay this posted right after the above.. hehe.. so I’ll just add that I prefer the vest to the tank for Adam?

  • lizardino

I just watched a couple of the videos and it is kind of surreal thinking that I was there for that–whoo. It is difficult seeing these guys further away from you when you get to see all these good close up videos. I wasn’t that far back, but Adam seemed way too far away from me!!!!!! He really got into his set tonight as well–Starlight was really emotional. And he had way too much fun with Allison on Slow Ride.

  • molls

    Hi deez!

I definitely heard no booing, and it would have pissed me off if I did.

Adam’s voice was definitely the powerhouse you heard on tv, but what was striking to me was how it just absolutely soared in that arena. The Muse song was beautiful. The David Bowie medley was genius.

Kradison, IMO, by FAR had the strongest, most impressive voices. I think I expected Kris’s voice to be softer, but he could really belt it out. The Matchbox 20 song seemed to be where he was most in his element. I really think he should go in the Rob Thomas direction overall. I know I would pay good money to see him.

Allison is all sorts of awesome! The energy she had was something to behold (ah, youth!!). And her voice was killer. Cry Baby was kick ass! And the Slow Ride duet was so much fun (it was my 13-year-old son’s favorite performance).

Danny’s voice, however, seemed like it was already straining a bit, esp. on the higher notes. It will be interesting to see how he fares over the long haul on this tour.

  • LisaE

Adam DID make it out to sign autographs tonight. Here are a few tweets. One from Jess – she’s the girl who got the hugs/kiss from Adam yesterday and runs an Adam picture site:

keckie_516: Adam said he visited lambert-pics yesterday and loves it! :) :) :)

keckie_516: Also Kris and Adam totally cracked up at the Kradam manip from LJ. Major thanks for that one, hehe. [someone manipulated her hug/kiss pics and put Kris in them]

Also, from my fav twitterer of the evening:

beckytweets: OMG I just met Adam Lambert!!! My sis keeps muttering ‘I touched his finger, i touched his finger’ lol…

    Others:

revlisacat: During the pause in WLL, Adam did a “come on” gesture with his hand to the audience for them to make more noise. Then he said “more.”

revlisacat: Most of the idols look pretty thin. Lil is tiny and curvy. Allison is small too. Adam’s arms are more muscled than they look in pictures.

  • Q3

The booing Kris reports are a lot of nonsense.

    1. The reports of fans booing Kris twice came from thethingiskat, a Danny fan. She has posted other tweets that turned out to false in the past. Like I believe this one was.

    2. There are a few tweets about booing Kris made before the concert by people whose profiles say they live in the UK. They were taunting Kris fans — who leaped to his defense inspiring more taunting.

    3. Most of the tweets about Kris being booed are from Adam fans saying this is not cool. Don’t do it. Like this one:

    i’m leaving now… com’on guys..let’s spread the KRADAM LOVE… DON’T BOO KRIS ^^ bye

  • Cheetara86

Masterclasslady (an experienced vocal coach who reviewed every performance during the show) was continually commenting on how Danny should see an ear/nose/throat specialist to make sure he hasn’t already damaged his vocal cords, and also a vocal coach to learn how to protect his voice, push it from the diaphram not his throat. Still needs to do both, I’d say. (she said the same about Allison re: specialist).

  • Eileen99

Just got home from the show = epic. I highly recommend that you go see the tour if you can.

I’d say no one would have been disappointed tonight by whomever their fave was – everybody was great, much better live than on the show. I have new respect for Danny! He was awesome, and I was not a fan previously! Michael was great with the crowd, too – he’s a great opener to get the crowd going. Matt awesome, Scott incredibly improved over the show.

Adam awesome, spectacular, over the top (and not exactly for family viewing in some parts of his set). Kris so emotionally into his songs, he was so awesome. I just love watching him get into his music so physically, especially on the piano during ANS. His set is definitely more rock-oriented than anything we saw from him on the show.

I didn’t hear anyone booing, but some lady behind me said really loudly “well I guess we can leave now” after Adam’s set, but I think she just wanted a reaction from someone because she didn’t leave (and didn’t get a reaction). My section was equal parts Kris, Adam, and Danny, with the cutest older ladies for Danny sitting next to me. In fact, I’d say there were a LOT of Danny fans in my area.

Crowd was 70% adult, 30% kids. Regarding standing up vs. sitting down. The floor section mostly stood throughout the entire second half. My section was up for the rocking songs, sitting for slower songs when they wanted to pay attention, didn’t matter who was singing – Mad World sitting, Bowie sitting a lot, Heartless standing, NB sitting, etc…. Surprisingly standing during almost all of Danny’s set.

Loved it – go see it! Group tunes were great, too! Loved Hey Jude/DSB to close it.

  • GeminiDolly

Adam changed a few things up in his performances. He seemed to let loose tonight. I loved the come hither motion in WLL.

Maybe at the ‘after after’ party??? I don’t know’ ¦do groupies still exist? They must, right? In some form, anyway’ ¦But if they do, would they bother to show up at an AI tour? Might be a little too ‘PG’ for them’ ¦

Here is how it works, if you have a backstage (after party) pass you put on the sticker they give you and go sit in a designated area of the arena. You wait maybe 20 minutes for the Idols to change clothes then they take you to a room. It’s always a pretty small room and some of the Idols are in there and some have not come in yet. You just walk around the room and wait to get a chance to talk to whoever you want. There are anywhere from 25 to about 45 or so people in there. When the line for each Idol dies down they go outside to the people waiting out there. The more popular Idols take much longer to come outside because they have more people inside. Make sense?
They then move them down the line pretty quickly to get them on the buses and get them out of there. There is no after, after party. The groupies, yes, they have them, usually stalk the hotels.
Sometimes the Idols have family or friends inside so they take much longer to come out
Last year we hung out with David Cook for a long time because he just didn’t have the strength to go outside and do the fan thing. By the middle of the Tour the kids who got the recording contracts are so busy flying back and forth with recording and interviews and stuff they are completely exhausted. David looked like death warmed over. I know it’s so hard on the fans who don’t get to meet their fav, but sometimes there are extenuating circumstances. Nobody is being a diva.

  • girlygirl

Glad to see that Adam came out for the autograph session after all. I thought he would. He really seems like such a great, down to earth guy. But I worry about those “handlers” that both he and Kris have now…of course, I worry about way too much involving this particular group of AI people. Weird…I wasn’t invested in any of the previous seasons once the televised contest ended at all…

And I have to admit to being way too sensitive/overprotective about my favorite bb Kris. Silly — he’s an adult and doesn’t need anyone protecting him — let alone a total stranger like me! I’m gonna work on trying not to overreact to every little thing…

  • Cheetara86

Adam & Kris have such a great attitude about all the Kradam love and the crazy fan fics/manips. But I have a feeling they haven’t seen the latest manip yet (that takes it a little beyond a photoshopped picture of them hugging).

  • Truthiness

There are always jerks who boo. From someone that actually can be trusted, unlike it seems thethingiskat, they reported (but didn’t Tweet it) that the only booing they heard was from two 10 years olds next to her who booed Adam through his entire set. So how is that for the other side.

Frankly I’m more worried about Adam’s reception in the South. He was already called a fag in Portland and captured on YouTube for it. So I can’t imagine how much more fun it’s going to get in say, Texas. Why couldn’t they have gone to Austin as their one Texas stop?

  • GeminiDolly

    Funny little tibit:

While signing, he grabbed someone’s RS and said “What’s with signing all this Adam stuff?!” He then made his way to me, and signed the back of RS “I Love Adam – Michael Sarver.” My copy even made it on http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_ai/981389.html

  • shadow-rider

Whew….glad to see that Adam isn’t shunning his fans. This Friday I am hoping to get mine.

They probably have Adam and probably Kris too come out to the crowd after the other idols have had their turn. I saw the video of Portland of Adam coming out and you can tell that the focus turned completely on him. They have to allow all of the idols to get their moment in the spotlight with the fans. They all deserve to feel like a star.

Now me I would love for Adam, Kris and Allison to be doing it together in the hopes of getting a photo of them together. I know its a longshot but thats my dream idol meeting.

I also saw the photo of them in Portland doing the meet and greet at the table in the lobby of the hotel. Anyone know how you score that?

Sounds like it was a great show tonight. If Adam is changing up his wardrobe I can’t wait to see what he will be wearing when I see him. Now I guess I can spend the next couple of hours checking out all of these videos.

Everyone looked much more relaxed tonight than they did in the videos I saw from Portland. They all seemed to be having a great time, and so we did too.

The idol that surprised me most (in a good way) was Anoop. He was great live–much improved from the show. He had everyone on their feet during “My Perogative” — and then everyone stayed that way for Matt. Matt was a pile of fun and an amazing piano player as well.

I loved the way Allison talked about the “3 guys you might have heard of” that were coming up after her. She really is adorable and a bundle of talent and energy.

I agree with Eileen above in that if you have a chance, you should really go to this show. I thought all the idols sounded better live than on the show–and Adam’s voice takes on a whole different character live. Kris’s voice sounds terrific as well. The staging of the show was great and the person next to me said it was a lot different than in previous shows.

Truthiness- What?? I didn’t hear that! But I still wouldn’t worry about overall reaction from the crowd in the south or what not because even if a few of them do act like that, there are crazy (I say this lovingly) Adam fans everywhere to stop it. And isn’t the south supposed to be known for their hospitality?

  • SarahP

haven’t yet seen the videos since i’m at work :-( cant wait to see end of the day…

and cant believe why everyone is upset about the whole ‘booing’ incident. its just one tweet and maybe its made up, maybe its not but i’d rather wait for a proper review by latimes or by any of the regional media who i’m sure will give a true account of every idol’s performance. additionally – twitter, as great as it is, is used by relatively fewer people than other social networking sites, the biggest being FB. so i wouldn’t rely on it totally.

I’m sure that Adam will be booed in some places by other 10 year olds or people acting like they are 10. And I doubt that the Portland incident is a new experience for Adam. There are “haters” everywhere.

But I live in the deep South and Adam has a lot of fans here — in fact he is more popular in Mississippi and Alabama than Kris. I’m not worried about his reception in Memphis, Duluth GA, North Carolina, Dallas, Little Rock. Actually, there are large, gay communities throughout the South — but very few issues.

People were I live are really polite and no parent would ever let a 10 year old boo someone at a concert.

Now if they were headed to Eastern TN or Eastern KT, or WV, I would be worried. But they’re not playing Knoxville.

There are always people who leave concerts only, for whatever reasons. Their loss, I say… never know what you could miss! I once had to leave early because the friend I was with had a curfew… and we missed a second encore! It hurt to read that in the review the next day.

About the booing… it happened during last year’s tour too, at least in Sacramento. I don’t think it was very widespread or loud, but I remember hearing it during Archie’s set when he mentioned Cook. *shrugs* It mostly sounded like little girls… what can you do?

Personally, if someone starts booing around me, I’m just going to cheer more loudly… don’t care if it’s for someone I’m crazy about or not. Booing is unacceptable.

I don’t get to see the tour until September! Just decided to buy tickets tonight, and luckily there were still some decent seats left. I blame this blog for nudging me into ordering tickets.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgBvQHyFVI4

Wow. Just wow. Perfection! He solved whatever minor pitch problems there were in Portland.

I’m a little sick of that song, but I got chills watching that. Thanks so much for posting it!

  • madefourbabies

“I nearly threw up when he came out, I was so excited. LOL. And Imï »’ a HUGE Kris fan! ha, but Adam just commanded the stage. He gyrated in front of my face too :)

LOL…love this comment left by someone on WLL video. Sure wish she had made a video of that close-up view to share with us! :innocent1_tb:

  • Q3

I just watch Adam’s set — actually he’s better than Portland, although video quality is not as good.

The choreography is much tighter. Starlight was even better — more emotional IMO. And the Bowie medly was much better.

Plus another tweet debunked — Adam took his jacket off after Live on Mars — just like Portland.

I watched part of Kris’ — but will watch the rest tomorrow.

Yep, I heard it in the first WLL video that was put up, then the complaints must have been noticed and she put the video on Private. Later it seems like she put it public again with the fag part muffled or something.

You mean the person who shot the video called him that? Or someone around him/her?

It sounded like a guy around him/her.

Just got home from the show = epic. I highly recommend that you go see the tour if you can.

Eileen, Glad you enjoyed the show. Loved your reveiw because as a Danny fan, it’s always good to hear something positive on here! :biggrin_wp:

Sounds like everyone did great and they are having fun! I can’t wait to go!!!

A very nice review girlygirl, thanks for posing. Loved what this non-fan reviewer had to say about Adam. Cheered up my day. :)

    Thank again.

I wondered earlier why Adam wasn’t interviewed by Rushfield before the show. Now I know. He was working on a new song…

yeah, I would to hear your impressions on the song sets

Okay, let’s see–I really have to go to bed soon, but I’ll do Adam and Allison’s sets here:

    Allison:

Came out on her first song (the Pink one) and just killed it. She played the guitar on the chorus and worked the stage like a pro. She really has great stage presence and is a very dynamic performer.

CryBaby was great and really emotional as well. She really gets into that song. She moves around a lot and so trying to get a picture of her was difficult! Her voice is very rich and she has a greater range than we saw on the show. She played with the band as well.

Barracuda was great and she did it a little differently than the Heart version, which suited her. Just some different phrasing choices. She walked to the back of the stage at the end of her set and then the stage went dark. People were screaming their heads off for her and no one sat down during her whole set.

Adam: Overall, the man is a force of nature. He has great stage presence and a lot of skill — he knows how to WORK it baby (and boy, does he!). I was thinking at about the second phrase of WLL that “we have now entered the R rated portion of this evening’s show” because he was stroking parts of his anatomy–whoo! I think he knows he has to keep it toned down for this audience, but I look forward to when he won’t have to do that. I think the audience will need a cold shower after the show. The guy (with his wife and another couple) in front of me starting snickering when Adam started his bump and grind — you could tell he loved it and thought it was fun. That Adam–giving us something for everyone!

Adam’s music — It was all really loud (stadium sound system) and so I didn’t hear some of the dynamic changes I love with Adam’s music until MAd World and Life on Mars (which was beautiful, by the way). He strutted out like he owned that stadium and just killed WLL. He did a few different things than I remembered from seeing videos of the Portland show, but that’s what makes live entertainment so interesting. It’s never the same–and Adam strikes me as the kind of person who just changes things up with his mood.

The best part of WLL was at the point when the music pauses, and he poses and freezes for a moment. Then he gestures like “come here” to the audience so that they will yell louder–then I think he mouthed “more” and waited until people were really screaming before he started singing again. He really is a pro. That was great. He didn’t move to the front of the stage with that song, but he did move around in front of the band and played with his microphone stand again. Hee. He sounded amazing.

I was looking forward to Starlight, as I love that song and especially the way he sings it. It was beautiful, although he started off too high for just a moment. His vocals are just so fluid and the range he has is stunning. I’m a singer and am just blown away by that voice of his. Starlight is a good song to show off his range and style, and he really got into it tonight. It was very emotional and he really played it to the audience, while remaining pretty still.

Mad World was wonderful as usual, but went by too fast (as did the whole set!). You really feel the dark and haunting quality of that song when he sings it. He was sitting down for most of it, and then just stood at the end. It’s longer than the version he sang on the show because he put all the lyrics in it. That is the nice thing about the tour; they do the whole songs. Haunting vocal with some fog in the background. BTW, Adam’s vocals really are just stunning. I’m a musician and can be really critical of other’s voices, but MY GOODNESS that boy can sing. If you can see him live, you really should do it because there is a quality to his voice that really doesn’t come over well on TV. You can hear it in recordings better–but I will just say that he sounds different in person in some ways. Different and better.

A couple things that bugged me during Adam’s set and during a couple of the others were that the lights were pretty low. The backdrop provides a lot of lighting and ambience, but I thought much of Adams set was a little dark. I had a hard time getting pictures of him.

Slow Ride was just a joy–he introduced Allison as his little sister, and then they went to town. He was singing really close to her at one point tonight and seemed to start laughing at one place as well. They grabbed hands and he kind of twirled her around in one place. They sound really great together and they are both really aware of the other person while they are singing. Power vocals x two! I think Adam did a little more wailing tonight as well.

May I say a word about wardrobe here. The famous jacket is quite beautiful, and I really wanted to see it close up. I was 17 rows back right in the center, so I had some frustrations with a tall person right in front of me (the only one in the area of course). I wanted to see Adam’s whole outfit more clearly, but the jacket really looks metallic blue under the lights. He was wearing a vest under it tonight (black) with silver chains. The same pants as last night. I think he will keep fussing with his wardrobe until he feels it’s just right–and maybe have a couple of options he plays with. The way he presents himself really is a part of his performance, and when people say that you can’t take your eyes off him when he is performing, believe them. It’s true.

I think my favorite part of Adam’ s set was the Bowie medley. The first song, Life on Mars (mentioned above) was vocally the loveliest thing he sang. Just pure sweet vocals with great diction. When you can understand a singer is saying in an arena with thousands of screaming fans, you know that person has great diction! It is a quiet opening, but sets up Fame really well. Some people said they thought the transitions between the songs was awkward, but I think it worked. There was a pause after Mars, and then he stood in the middle of the stage and took off the jacket (to the music). He’s been practicing–he had attitude going on there! Fame was great vocally and he let loose a little more with movement tonight. There was one place where he hits his head with his hand right to the music that was really effective (and very cool). And let’s just say that you can tell that the man has spent more than a little time in dance clubs and knows how to move his body very well. VERY well, ahem.

The last part of Bowie, Let’s Dance, was actually really cool. It was more of a rock/techno version than Bowie’s version. It had a heavier beat to it and sounded great. More dancing and a little bit of Adam’s lower register. I almost missed part of the song because I was looking at his arms—hee. People were saying last night that he looked like he needed to lose weight, and I really disagree. His arms, BTW, look more muscular (but not in a really “cut” way) in person. I think the song worked really well, and I would love to see that medley again after about 20 more performances. At the end of his set, Adam gets lowered down into the floor.

Here is my visceral reaction to Adam, which I wasn’t quite expecting. I knew about the presence, vocals, charisma, blah, blah… However, while I enjoyed all the other singers quite a bit (and I will write more about a few of them tomorrow–especially Kris), I didn’t have the same reaction to them as I did to Adam. Now, I have to preface this by saying that I am a straight female and Adam is the kind of guy I would go for (except for the gay part–but I have gay friends who remind me of him). He is very sexy, and knows how to use it. Having said this, I have never had a reaction where I was so frustrated by having people between me and the performer on the stage–I just wanted to whack them out of the way so I could see Adam! If I could have crawled over most of them to the front row, I would have been happy. For some reason, the others being 17 rows away didn’t bother me so much–but I really wanted Adam about 2 feet away from me. Very funny, actually.

The other thing that makes me realize what a great performer Adam is, is that after his set was over I felt like it was only about 2 minutes long. I remember all the others clearly and would have liked a few more songs from Allison especially, but with Adam it was over WAY too soon. All I could think was, “wow–that was amazing and about 20 songs too short.”

Have a nice night! More to come tomorrow.

I read this over at TWoP and it sums up the Adam that is emerging in this AI concert:

tiggertail -We’ve seen all kinds of performances from Adam Lambert on AI and YouTube. Relaxed and playful, polished and professional, oozing erotic energy or getting his freak on. Performances that highlighted spectacular vocals and brilliant musicianship, shows where he gleefully fed off the energy of an enthusiastic audience. But never all these things at the same time, eh?

Now we’re beginning to see what happens when all these factors come together. We’re watching polished, comfortable, happy Adam. Playful, confident, genuine (within the confines of AI) Adam. Eros-channeling, in-the-zone rock star Adam.

Add to that his joy in performing for thousands of screaming, adoring fans.

Yeah, we knew he was good. We knew he was a star. But holy crap.

    Adam Lambert is going supernova.

Yes, Danny was preaching again. He thinks he is in a church

I don’t know about anyone else but I think that it’s totally disrespectful to the audience and the other 9 performers. People didn’t pay money to hear him preach. I realize it’s who he is and he has his beliefs but come on. He needs to save it for when he does his own shows (if ever).

And he doesn’t want to get signed by a Christian Label? Laughable.

    Re. the Gokey preaching. Someone who attended the Tacoma concert shares her thoughts on the subject;

But, here’s the kicker. Between the two Rascal Flatts songs, he talks. It goes on forever. Okay, he probably talks for a minute, but it feels like forever. About how we probably know his story, but he’s going to tell us about it anyway, and he tried out for AI four weeks after his wife died, and I don’t even remember the rest of it, something about how this next song should be inspiring for all the dreamers out there and American Idol gave him hope, and the entire thing goes behind The Danny Gokey Show into The Danny Gokey Tent Revival, and the Danny fans behind me are all awwww and I am rolling my eyes, and it is a disaster.

Look, his wife died. That’s messed up. I don’t mind him talking about his wife, what drives me insane is when he tries to turn it into an inspirational story so he can share his faith, and does such a terrible job of it. Arrrrgh, Gokey.

Word. We need more R&B crooners these days. Ne-yo is practically the only one and it’s not enough. LOL

So true! I can’t tell you how happy I am that Anoop is really busting out in a big way on tour, and that he’s able to show people what he can do with the type of music he wants to make.

His take on Ne-yo’s Mad is so, so good. I honestly have to say that if a record company would give him a chance he could do some awesome things in pop R&B. These days the genre is so full of mediocre singers who rely on autotune, which is fun but isn’t the same as the heart-tugging, soulful sexiness of early 90′s R&B. Anoop has the voice to pull that stuff off in a major yet more modern way. Plus he has an image that would be cool and different.

Also, his performance during the Beggin number had me going “WOW. OH, WOW. YES PLEASE, MAY I HAVE SOME MORE?”

  • Danica_K

His “preaching” may go over better with some of the Indiana crowd, but not this Hoosier. I do find that insanely disrespectful, sorry. I’m at a concert, I’m there to be entertained. If it was anyone but Gokey, sadly, I probably wouldn’t mind a brief “this song is special to me because…blah, blah, blah” but with Danny it turns my stomach. He’s in the wrong forum entirely. I’m not IN CHURCH. That’ll put a bad taste in my mouth, if I sit through it and don’t take a bathroom break, but thankfully Adam will be up next to erase all of the Gokey hell.

I live in a city that straddles VA and WV and while there are definitely homophobes and rednecks around, there are a lot (and I mean a lot!) of people around here that absolutely adore Adam. I agree that some places are worse than others but there are going to be people who hate him no matter where you go just as there are going to be people that love him.

On a side note….does anyone else wonder what has become of their life? I swear, Adam is going to be the death of me…..literally! • Jx223

In regards to the Danny “preaching”, I believe that he is definitely still grieving and talking about his wife’s death. And him talking about it is one way that he’s dealing with it. Plus the anniversary of her death, tomorrow, so I can understand why he would be really emotional about it and feel the need to talk about it.

So he might talk even longer about that tonight in Vancover, since that anniversary is tomorrow and since the idols don’t have a show tomorrow. And yes that will probably annoy some people. And I am glad that Danny doesn’t have to do a show tomorrow.

I don’t think that he should go the route of bringing it up, in the rest of the cities that the idols are going to. Which is what around 50?, I don’t think that it would bode well for him if he brings it up in every city that the idols go to. And I think that he might do that. Because of his grief, and because I believe it’s his way of trying to connect more to the audience. But I don’t think that he should bring that up in every city that he goes to. For a few different reasons.

I’m not concerned about people getting up and going to the bathroom for his sets, because they don’t want to hear his speech. He’s not going to notice nor care about that, and that’s not going to hurt him in any way. It’s not like all of sudden 5,000 Danny haters will stand up and leave when his sets starts at all of the concerts. That’s not going to happen.

Some people will get up and go the bathroom, or wherever to avoid his speech set in the different cities, but it won’t be that noticeable. Most people in the audience will probably stay right where they are at during his set, speech and all. The people that leave during his set, will be a much smaller number than the people who stay, so he won’t notice nor care about that. That won’t hurt him.

What I am concerned about is that he might start getting some boos when he starts to give a speech. And that people will start saying some really harsh stuff to him, when he starts to give one of his speech. I am concerned that might happen. And if did, he might stop making the speeches but it would probably make him feel really bad.

And I’m also concerned that he might get some poor reviews for giving his speeches. Maybe.

And that if he makes a habit of giving a speech during every spot on the tour, then more people will focus on how much his speeches annoy them and not on how well he performs. There will be more people saying stuff like “ugh Danny is giving an annoying speech again” and not commenting on his performances because they’ll be annoyed that he keeps giving speeches.

So I think that it would be in his best interest, if didn’t give the speeches during every stop of the tour. I think that he should stop doing them soon. I think that would be fine if he came out and greeted the audience, asked they were doing or something and then sung his first two songs.

And then before he sings his last song, he could say something, like “I am going to sing a song that means a lot to me”, and then just sing the song. That would work, and he could still interact with the audience some and talk to them, without really going into a speech.

Danny’s speeches doesn’t bother me, but I would hate to see him make a habit of doing them and that end up hurting him somehow.

  • Squirrely

I understand his need to speak with the annivesary approaching, and I actually feel for him right now, but I agree after that he really should just focus on the music. I hope the other idols are very supportive of him right now, being away from home for such a sad remembrance must be hard for him.

  • Vada

I am not a Danny fan or a Danny hater. I think AI/19 totally approves of his charity, as it helps their ‘Idols Give Back’ message.

If the speech lasted 15 minutes, I could better understand the lack of tolerance.

  • SparklesATL

I would definitely not worry about Diluth, Ga. We live in South Alabama and Adam has tons of fans here.

Someone is worried about Duluth with Adam? I wish these stupid regional stereotypes would go away. Hasn’t the world progressed past that?

Duluth is a NE suburb of Atlanta. Atlanta is one of the most gay friendly cities in the US and that goes for the surrounding counties. It is so common to see gay couples at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Costco, etc. that you don’t even notice. I’m a contractor and in the last year I’ve worked at several corporate offices. At Macy’s (in Duluth) the week I started it was Corporate Gay Pride week. At Home Depot. Corporate, at least 1/3 of the corporate employees I was in contact with were out and proud. I’m now working downtown at the Corp HQ of a very large bank and there are quite a large number of out and proud gays.

Don’t worry about Adam here. :) There won’t be any problems, except the gay men and Adam Loving women fighting over getting next to him. :)

  • ptslittlecomment

Do not worry about Adam’s reception in Duluth, GA. (LOL) Atlanta has a very large and active gay population. It is also home to the famous Alliance Theatre, which receives wonderful support from part-time city resident Sir Elton John to produce such classics as the Angels in America series, the Laramie Project and other such awareness plays on a regular basis. Duluth is a suburb of Atlanta. While some of the folks you guys might classify as “country bumpkins” or “rednecks” will most likely attend, there will be some people there who actively support Adam because he is gay. But I am willing to guess that the vast majority of folks will not care one way or another. They will be there for the music and/or their favorite contestant just like anywhere else in America.

  • Vada

For those bad-mouthing the South, I would just point out that Adam’s biggest idol supporter, Kris Allen, is from the south.

He is also soliciting donations for his charity on his twitter by requesting followers for people who donate (two ppl donated $15K)’ ¦’ ¦

I’ve never seen Danny twitter about this. I don’t think AI would allow Danny to talk with the crowd if they didn’t approve it ‘” maybe they want him to do it.

There’s a couple of GB Packers players who said they would donate to charities if they get a certain amount of followers so Danny’s been campaigning for them. I’m a Patriots fan and cannnot in no way follow a GB Packer.

ETA: to clarify donations were to charities.

  • SparklesATL

ptslittlecomment maybe we can get a message to Adam that we can escort him to Swinging Richards, the best gay man strip club evah! I could only hope he would get in the “swing” of things and jump up on one of the stages and give everyone a show. (And I don’t mean singing!)

ETA, Atlanta is a “completely nude” city. IOW, the only thing the guys end up wearing is a little strap on their arm to stick your money in. Woot!

    (I’m a girl, btw)

  • Jx223

He is also soliciting donations for his charity on his twitter by requesting followers for people who donate (two ppl donated $15K)’ ¦’ ¦

I’ve never seen Danny twitter about this.

There were a few NFL players on Twitter who decided to donate a certain amount of money if they get a certain amount of followers. The one that first decided to do that was Nick Barnett, one of the Packers, that Danny is friends with.

Nick asked Danny a while back to help him get to 10,000 followers on Twitter so that he could donate 10,000 dollars to whatever charity the people on Twitter voted for.

I believe he was going to ask for suggestions and then narrow it down to 5 different charites for people to vote on. I don’t think that Danny saw Nick’s Tweets at first, because he waited a while before he asked his fans to follow Nick.

But then Danny did ask his followers to follow Nick and that he was hopeful that it donations could go to SHF, but that regardless he wanted to help people out.

But Danny never told anyone to follow Nick so that the money could go to SHF, or told people to vote for SHF as the charity, that should receive the money.

He just asked people to follow Nick for a good cause.

There were also a couple of other football players that were willing to donate $5,000, if they got to 5,000 followers by certain dates. One didn’t reach his goal, but I think that he might donate some money anyhow, and the other has a couple more days to reach his goal.

    madefourbabies/Adam’s WLL from tonight:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggFmdJNaiLs

That hand held out in the come-hither gesture, the give-me-more look is going to be the death of me if (I hope WHEN) he does this at my concert. He knows what we want, what a star. Hope he sings “woman” for us, too. Not only is it exciting to his female fans (a little crumb to throw to our team!) but the vowels sound better and it is the original lyric after all. We want him to be accurate, just saying. I don’t have any ulterior motive, ahem. Who’s with me, “woman” or “baby”?

  • Eileen99

Re: Danny’s “preaching”. I was at the concert last night, and certainly didn’t take his 60-90 seconds worth of talking “preaching”. It was all in the context of introducing the last song of the set and discussed overcoming adversity and following your dreams. Yes, he mentioned his wife but it was in passing in the context of the idea of following dreams and wasn’t the focus of his “preaching”. I am not a Danny fan but did not find what he was saying off-putting in the slightest. And it was not lengthy and he did not ask for donations!! He did a great job in his set, had a lot of confidence and energy, and busted some new dance moves that actually looked OK. Please give him a break!

  • Mom in the Suburbs

Right on, SparklesATL and ptslittlecomment, in being open-minded about the gay community, ATL rocks! Hey, Sparkles, love your idea of having Adam dropping by Swinging Richards. I’ve never heard of it, being stuck out in the wilds of Cobb County, but it sounds like a good time, whether Adam jumps on stage or not. It’d be fun just to watch his reaction.

  • ptslittlecomment

Sparkles and Mom – I would be there in a heartbeat! Do you think TPTB would let Adam out with three – ahem- very nice, respectable – ahem fans?

  • ruskimom

Thanks “Mom” for the WLL link. The sound was great!

  • tinawina

If The Gokey does a little bit of banter before his last song that involves talk of inspiration and whatnot, I don’t see how its that big a deal. Its not like he goes on for half an hour.

I am way more offended (amused?) by the humping of various performance equipment. Now that’s some snark worthy Gokey stuff right there.

  • Ellie2

Yeah, while I’m not a fan of the “preaching,” I’d much rather listen to that than watch Gokey dry hump a mic stand. Now Adam on the other hand…he can hump anything he wants.

  • evanjane

The seats I had at last year were not the greatest, the view was good, but up way too high. A lot of the seats emptied out the 2nd half. Many were Cook fans. I had people who had seats up higher come down to sit in the empty seats around me. People were changing seats, getting better views, etc. It wasn’t completley sold out and many, many people, were trying to get down on the floor. I think most managed to do it.

  • ravengirl

Must see this Adam vest y’all are talking about. I couldn’t stay up long enough for the vids. My head hurt from Rickey’s cellcast.
And Mom in the Suburbs, I, too, am hoping for “woman” instead of “baby.” One word that means sooo much.

  • KLI

Some people take offense at Danny’s “preaching” and don’t like it because it is just so darn self indulgent–and he doesn’t even realize it! All of us face personal tragedies in life; all of us have loved ones who die; all of us experience tragedy. It is part of the human experience. Nothing unusual or exceptional about that.

The other singers are not immune to tragedy or challenges in life. Just ask Adam about the experience of growing up as a gay man in America. How many of you have had to face the hateful name calling and whispered snickers that he has had to live with his whole life? What about Megan, the young and divorced single mom raising her son? (I’m a Mom, and I can’t even imagine raising a child without a husband, but there are mothers who do this every day) What about Lil, who has kept her family and marriage intact in the face of disaster–her apartment was destroyed by a tornado for heaven’s sakes. Talk about strength in the face of adversity!

What about the challenges Scott has experienced trying to make it in the business with a visual impairment (he does make some jokes about this during the show). What about all those hidden “backstories” of the other idols that we don’t even know about because they didn’t want to reveal them?

An exceptional entertainer is able to take their personal experience and use it to connect to the audience through their singing. Danny is trying to do that here–but he doesn’t do it in a very effective way. There are 10 singers in this show–each has a message and each has experienced the joy and the pain that life brings. Danny is the only one who feels that he is entitled to bring it to the forefront in such an “in your face way.”

    [See next post--out of room]

  • Squirrely

Excellent point KLI, especially with Lil. Her story and the many who lived through what she has faced – God Bless them.

  • KLI

    [continuation of prior post]

What if Adam got up on stage and started expounding on ending prejudice and how he’s entitled to love just like everyone else and how if everyone could just love each other we could all have world peace? Actually, I love that message and totally support it, but an American Idol concert just isn’t the right forum for in your face preaching on that issue.

The funny thing is, Adam has been extremely effective conveying his “backstory” and message just by living it–his exceptional friendship with Kris and the other Idols is a living testament to what it means when we start focusing on what we have in common rather than our differences.

Likewise, the other Idols get up there and convey their message by “doing” and not just talking.

I haven’t gone to the concert yet–I’ll be there in September–but I’m already hoping that Danny doesn’t preach. This is a bad thing for him really because even though I’m not a fan, he’s gotten some good reviews, and want to give him a chance at the concert. I’d rather focus on the music.

Maybe he’ll stop speechifying before then! I can only hope.

Great, great, great! He’s in a jacket and jeans. Hope the glasses go away soon though. He uses his eyes to portray the music’s emotion (AOMM) and would love to see them at the end of Mad when he’s kneeling on the floor.

Adam seemed much more relaxed in these videos. It looks like he was really having fun; the first show must have been nervewracking. WLL was stellar. My only complaint would be that I wish he would put Life on Mars at the end of the Bowie medley. His voice is so otherworldly and haunting when he sings it and the song is so “him”. I wish he would end with that one. It’s my favorite part of his set.

Allison is simply OUTSTANDING. I wonder if she has any clue just how good she is. She’s exhilarating to watch and listen to. If anybody could be the next Daughtry, it’s Allison. She’s a powerhouse. Excellent job!

Just catching up this morning on this thread. Lizardino, I don’t know who you are but love love loved your reviews of Adam and Allison. Thanks!

Athens Georgia is the home of the B52s and the lead singer has been pretty openly flamboyantly gay from the get go. Also one of my favourite fun bands. I got down on the floor in my disco dresses many times during Rock Lobster. Down….down….down…..

  • Mary102

OMGz, Adam – what are you doing to me? :jittery_tb:

I have so much work to do today, but of course I just had to peak back here and see that vid of the Bowie Medley (new glittery vest = total HOTNESS!) and even with the sound off, just watching him is enough to complete derail me and my productivity for the rest of the day!

God, this guy is amazing! And that vid is incredible from the center floor seats!

  • Eileen99

All I can say is: Attend the concert before deciding how offended you are by something that was said that you didn’t witness personally. Danny wasn’t “in your face” and got a huge response from the crowd for his set. There were no boos, looks of astonishment at what Danny said, or any other signs that anyone took any offense or felt uncomfortable in the least. His comments flowed within the context of his sets. Other idols also introduced their songs with personal reflections. There are a LOT of Danny fans out there and the crowd loved him last night. I have never been a fan of Danny’s but found myself really appreciating his set last night, and the crowd was on its feet almost the whole time. He was great. Good for him.

  • http://archulove.wordpress.com vickyvicks0

on personal taste anoop and lil have the best sets (and I’m not a lil fan.. at all.) anoop is great as always, smooth voice and charming personality. lil brought it and was pretty darn good. and the group song in the middle (first 5) was super fun! they were all into it and even saver and scott sounded great OMG @ LIL AND ANOOP’S RAPPIN during beggin’ SO COOL! HAHA
    ANOOP IS SO SEXYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! :twisted_wp:

great concert again. i don’t really like the guitar for “so what “by allison, it kind of slows her down and she’s not really doing much with it anyway. that song needs u to be all over the stage with atitude and swagger .
adam is smoking hot as usual. i can’t get that starlight out of my head. i wish he cld put it in his album.

Adam seemed much more relaxed in these videos. It looks like he was really having fun; the first show must have been nervewracking.

I’m sure it was nervewracking for all ten, but in some respects there was more pressure on Adam because of the high expectations. You know all the criticisms he got after the show, non-fans saying he would start fading into obscurity. I think after all the glowing reviews and audience reaction, he probably felt like he met expectations and now can continue to do his “thang”.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

And Mom in the Suburbs, I, too, am hoping for ‘woman’ instead of ‘baby.’ One word that means sooo much.

I’ll be disappointed if he sings “woman”. It’s not true to who he is-a gay man. I like that he personalizes the songs he sings, and I like even more that he doesn’t pander to his audience.

  • lavender1960

But Adam has more stage experience than the rest of the contestants combined so I’d expect him to be the least nervous which is not to say he wasn’t still nervous – even the most experienced performers get nervous on opening night – nerves are a good thing, someone said if you aren’t nervous, you don’t care enough….

I think Anoop has a good voice and he’s a great guy, just not very exciting, to me. His tour videos don’t do it for me. Still, I like him. He’ll always be someone I remember fondly from this season. I’m looking forward to seeing him more than I am a few others.

Re Danny, I think Raj Kapoor said all ten are doing a kind of mini-concert of their own. Representing who they are as artists. So in my opinion what Danny is doing is giving people who he is, much like what you’d hear in one of his concerts. He did say once (if I recall) he intends to talk during his concerts and have the audience share their inspirational experiences. I’m not a fan of his, I don’t want to hear him preach, but I assume his fans like him as is.

I’m willing to tolerate the people I don’t love to see the ones I do. Besides, I’m pretty open minded and I intend to try to take the best from each set and enjoy it.

  • Q3

Having watch the concert videos from last night — two things struck me. Anoop is really good — and getting better. And Adam must have been working on his choreography on his day off because it was much improved vs. Portland. Plus, everone seemed a whole lot more relaxed in these videos.

AC Truthiness- What?? I didn’t hear that! But I still wouldn’t worry about overall reaction from the crowd in the south or what not because even if a few of them do act like that, there are crazy (I say this lovingly) Adam fans everywhere to stop it. And isn’t the south supposed to be known for their hospitality?

I think that it’s time that we drop all these regional sterotypes. I’ve literally lived all over the country and but am truly blessed to now call Mississippi home. IMO there are two Southern sterotypes that are true — people are really hospitable, nice and polite & our food is really good. So if you aren’t lucky enough to live in the South, but do visit, make sure that you come real hungry. But beyond that, there are a whole lot of out-of-date ideas about the South.

Is there anyplace in the US that is more “gay friendly” than Na’ Orleans or Biloxi, MS?

Not saying that the South is perfect or that there are no “haters” here but, for the most part, it’s the 21st century even in Mississippi!

Finally, last night I made a comment about how I would be worried if the tour was going to Knoxville — and that wasn’t meant to dis on east Tennessee. It’s just that that is the “hometown” of an organized anti-Adam group — the only one I am aware of. I realized that I didn’t explain my comment. Sorry it was late.

Adam sang Woman during WLL. I don’t know what the big deal is…baby or woman. Woman is more true to the original version so for me I’m glad he stuck to the original verse this time. Tonight he’ll do baby probably catering to his fans of both sexes.

  • Eileen99

A couple of additional random thoughts about the concert last night that I didn’t mention when I got home last night:

Adam – no additional poundage detected – Glamberts you can now officially be relieved.

Danny – some weight loss? He looked slimmer than on TV. More comfortable moving on stage than he showed us on AI.

Kris – I think I read previously some people were worried his vocals wouldn’t hold up?!? I thought his vocals were really strong, much stronger than on the show, where he showed softer vocals. Kris can rock out – make no mistake about it.

Megan – the only one that I felt didn’t really improvee whole lot over the show. While she was singing and walking up and down the stage, I was thinking how much I would enjoy seeing Alexis ….

I think I already covered all other observations.

Oh, and to reiterate – I heard NO booing for ANYONE. EVERYONE got plenty of love, and also repeating myself, Michael is a great crowd pleaser and a great one to open the show. Very personable and likable guy.

  • lola

Regarding WLL – whether he sings “woman” or “baby”, it doesn’t matter to me. As long as he gives out his best in every song he sings that what counts. He is firstly a singer to me irregardless of his sexuality.

  • Tess

Just watched Danny’s Maria Maria and it didn’t look nearly as awkward or out of place as yesterday’s did. The guitar twirls and stradling are still a little disjointed…even though I know they are supposed to be his “partner”….but his dancing at the end, when he has stopped singing, is quite good. He does like Salsa.

Looking at the video as objectively as I can, I have come to the conclusion that Danny is way better doing something when it is only 1 thing. Dancing without singing: good, singing without dancing: good, talking without interviewing: good. About Danny’s little talk during his performance….for me it isn’t about what he says, which I assume is heartfelt, it is about the presentation. Danny is “programmed” to give a shout-out like an old time preacher. That is probably how he has been doing it for a long time in church. That is what disconnects with many of us who hate that preachy, hell fire and damnation type of shout-out. If he would just try and speak intimately into the mike and make it from his heart and not from his “church voice” it would go over much better with people like me.

I honestly think that Danny’s dancing in the video in Tacoma, was the same as his performance in the video in Portland. I think that his dancing overall was good both times, but I think that it was hard to see that in the Portland video because the quality of that video was poor.

But from what I could make out in the Portland video, it looked like his dancing was the same, but I think that it just wasn’t as easy to see that as it is in the Tacoma video.

  • mar

Well, he’s a natural blonde, so if you were expecting brunette underarm hair, you’re not going to see it.

Yeah, I had considered that possibility :) And the youtube vids sure can blow out the highlights so it’s hard to tell…

Officially ending my MJ stint for the day. Discussing Adam’s underarm hair is the final sign that I need an intervention LOL!!

  • Eileen99

I think the moves will get better as the tour moves along – Danny was much improved, but can get better – Lil needs more time being comfortable with her choreography, likewise with Anoop, I thought. Matt is a natural on stage – no help needed, he was completely comfortable moving. Allison moved around a lot and quickly, I thought maybe due to nerves – she needs to settle down a teensy bit maybe?

Thank you to TPTB for not choreographing “moves” for Kris!! Can you imagine? His moves consist of spontaneous physical reactions to what he’s singing at the moment, which is one thing I absolutely adore about him. I would have to be horrified if he had anything pre-programmed in the choreography department. Would. not. work.

Go to the tour guys! It’s so fun!

  • Mom in the Suburbs

MJ Hope it’s okay to disagree with you, but I don’t see that singing the original lyric is necessarily pandering, at least not any more than a singer just trying to entertain the crowd. Adam knows who he is, and WE know who he is. Truth is, I don’t really believe the “bi-curious” jokes he’s making–but they sure are fun. In my first comment about this on the last page I also stated mvho that the word “woman” sounds better when sung (a singer friend once told me that some vowels are better than others when sung, that’s just how it is). Ymmv, of course, and rockvixen, I can’t speak for others here, but I certainly will be thrilled to watch him perform it whichever word he uses–I was just expressing a small hope/opinion :lol_wp: after seeing the Tacoma version. Hope there’s room for every type of fan, even if I’m in the minority. Anyway, I also hope he keeps that come-hither hand gesture!

And Adam must have been working on his choreography on his day off because it was much improved vs. Portland.

I think he was doing more of his own thing rather than doing the choreographer’s routine. Adam seems to improvise all his performances. Even MW is a little different each he sings it.

  • vanjess38

I live in Tennesse and really looking forward to seeing these guys. I have my favourite but I would love to dance to all of the idols performances ‘cos that’s what I paid the damn cash for. Secondly, no one should be worried about Adam here down south. We are very loving people and we love everyone. People pay for these tickets knowing Adam is going to perform, if they don’t want to see him perform, they wouldn’t go in the first place. He’s fine. I am a kradam fan, so I love Adam though I don’t like rock. In effect, I love anyone Kris loves. HAHAHA, kradam FTW.

ptslittlecomment Are you sure Adam needs “permission” from tptb?? To go out on the town, that sparkling, dancing party boy? LOL. I think that it’s time that we drop all these regional sterotypes.

There are homophobes in every state (e.g, that video that was on youtube from Portland). I think certain regions are stereotyped because of the “bible belt”, and many Christians (as Danny), go by the book. Even Kris said his family and friends are OK with Adam, but he knows others who live in his community are not.

That’s cool. Not everyone is going to love the same performers. I happen to think Anoop has a fantastic voice and presence on the stage (not to mention he’s hot ;) ) but understand not everyone is going to agree with me.

I don’t get the whole “ZOMG ADAM IS A SEX GOD!!1!” because I don’t find him sexy at all. But I enjoy his personality and can recoginze that he’s incredibly talented.

The thing I’m most excited about is seeing all of the Idols take to the arenas and put out there who they want to be musically post-Idol. IMO, excluding those who have already been signed, based on the reviews and all of the videos (and yes, I’ve watched all the Idols performances) Anoop seems to have put out the strongest marker and I REALLY hope the industry gives him a chance.

I personally don’t care one way or another if he (or anyone else for that matter) changes lyrics, but IMO, the word ‘woman’ just flows better, ‘w’ being a softer sound, phonetically speaking, than ‘b’. And yes please to keeping the come-hither gesture!! :smoke_tb:

MJ Hope it’s okay to disagree with you, but I don’t see that singing the original lyric is necessarily pandering, at least not any more than a singer just trying to entertain the crowd.

Well, I would ban you for that sort of insubordination.

    Kidding, kidding.

I’ll assume for a second that the Idols actually have some free reign on choosing their set list and suggest that maybe Adam just likes the song. I’m a pretty cynical person but I’d be hard pressed to say an artist performing a cover that he thinks will be popular with the crowd being performed to as “pandering”. After all, not every performer can rise to the level of “anti-pandering” of Borat singing the Kazakhstan’s National Anthem at the rodeo.

  • dontiwish

I’m willing to bet Adam is watching his videos and adjusting his performance as he goes. I am very happy to see that already the choreography is looking less Broadway and that he’s toned down some of the vocal flourishes he put into Starlight. I was so excited to hear he was singing it, but when I watched the Portland video I was a little put off by some of the changes he made to the song. He’s definitely changed it up some for Tacoma, and I like it much better. I was sad to have to wait until early Sept. for my show, but if Adam keeps getting better every night he is going to bring the house down by then!
And whew, some of those moves during Fame! I am melting in my chair he is so hot!

Twitter is good in the fact that it’s easy to communicate with fans. Someone bought Adam luggage and he thanked her/him directly

Re: Adam singing “baby” or “woman” in WLL, I disagree that it’s inauthentic for Adam to sing “woman”- it sounds better and most of all, it’s the original version of a well-known song. Adam, I love you, but enough with the Broadway/jazz hands. Don’t prove Gene Simmons’ point.

Gene Simmons doesn’t want him to be gay at all. Gene Simmons’ point of view is that the more gay he is, the less rocker credibility he will have. I don’t think Adam being Adam supports Gene Simmons’ pov at all! In fact, judging by the crowd response and the reviews…Adam being Adam proves Adam’s point…that there is room for every type of performer and that his appeal is universal. Bring on the jazz hands Adam!!!

Thanks so much everyone for posting the video links and reports … I’m never going to get anythng done catching up with everything … ha ha

I knew it wouldn’t be long before Adam couldn’t keep his hand of his halfpenny … but I thought it would take a bit longer than one show … but hey, I’m not complaining …lol

Love the new sparkly waistcoat .. and the boy’s like a walking slinky .. he’s all wiggly … again no complaints from me there.

During the show my favourites were Adam, Alison and Kris and none of them have disappointed on the tour ….. I must admit that I was never a fan of Lil or Anoop but I’ve really enjoyed watching their performances and I absolutely love the group number “Beggin” … A few rough bits in the choreography but I can imagine that a couple of shows in it will get a lot slicker and be fabulous.

Also I understand that Danny has a story to tell and it has been rough for him … but I’m afraid I’m another one who thinks he should keep the preaching away from the tour stage … fine say a few lines about following your dreams but personally I don’t think it’s necessary to go into details everynight and turn the stage into a pulpit …. Just to remind everyone….Adam has many feminine and/or androgynous characteristics (and don’t forget I am his greatest fan) that are just him and not learned or affectatious. He isn’t ever going to move like a football toting, rifle wielding, beer guzzling, overly hetero performer. At his most unguarded you can see many of the stereotypical gay movements. They are part of Adam and his being. The way he moves and dances is just Adam…and I, personally, enjoy every hand twirl, and rhythm roll, and neck stretch, and love the hip sway figure eights.

The Danny Gokey Revival: Why does the tour director allow him to preach? Don’t they know that most of us had it with this long ago and would much rather listen to ‘music?’ I, for one, would have been muuuch more sympathetic to his agenda had he just mentioned it once or twice instead of every time we see him! He is also soliciting donations for his charity on his twitter by requesting followers for people who donate (two ppl donated $15K)’ ¦’ ¦.I think he is truly pathetic and insults his wife’s memory with all of his antics (for lack of a better word).

You’ve got the whole Twitter/charity thing wrong, and spreading untruths about Danny. But I guess what’s new?

What happened is some football player told twitter universe that he would donate $10,000 to charity if he could get 10,000 followers by July 4th. Then a friend of the football player offered $5,000 for 5,000 followers.

The first guy, who knows Danny, asked Danny’s fans to help him get to 10,000 followers (he also asked Adam fans, btw). The football player said that he would put Sophia’s Heart Foundation on a ballot along with several other charities and let his followers vote.

When Danny found out, he encouraged people to become followers of the guy. Really, that’s about it.

  • karenw

re: Adam singing “baby” or “woman” in WLL …. it doesn’t really bother me either way … I like how he makes the song more realistic to him by using “baby” .. but there again I also appreciate him sticking to the original with the word “woman” … “woman” fits in better with the phrasing as it’s a better word to kind of masterfully spit out ( … ha)

…. but either way whether he sings “baby”, “woman”, “blokey”, “matey” or “thingy” .. it still doesn’t change the fact that the chance of any of us getting a Lambert shag is exactly the same as it was before he even sang the song … and that’s absolutely ZERO :mrgreen_wp:

MJ Hope it’s okay to disagree with you

Of course it is :) .

Personally, I like when he sings “baby” better, but that’s just me. I’m not wedded to the original version of the song. I hope at some point Adam goes even further than neutralizing the pronouns–singing to a “him” or a “he”. That would be brave and very cool, imo.

bout Danny’s little talk during his performance’ ¦.for me it isn’t about what he says, which I assume is heartfelt, it is about the presentation. Danny is ‘programmed’ to give a shout-out like an old time preacher. That is probably how he has been doing it for a long time in church. That is what disconnects with many of us who hate that preachy, hell fire and damnation type of shout-out. If he would just try and speak intimately into the mike and make it from his heart and not from his ‘church voice’ it would go over much better with people like me.

Tess, I like Danny, and I actually like him more the more I know about him. But I do understand what you are getting at. I was saying to my sister last night, “people keep saying he’s “preaching”, but he’s just talking. He’s not talking about religion…I think he just sounds like a preacher.”

He does have that kind of shout out thing going on, but I really think that’s who he is. I’m pretty sure both his grandfather and uncle are preachers. When I first heard him the first night, my heart kinda sank because I said, “they are going to eat him alive again online.” But then, the more I listened, I just smiled, because I thought, well Danny is who he is and I don’t see him changing for anyone. And that is how it should be, for all of them.

Also, I do believe that most of the people that it really bothers are those who didn’t like him that much to begin with. I’ve read several reports of people getting emotional and crying during Danny’s last song. I think his “talk” before the song helps them to get in touch emotionally with the song, and apply it to their lives…of course, ymmv.

It’s a song, it’s entertainment. The song totally works with him singing Woman- no need to change it.

Do you also think he should have changed the name “Beth” to “Drake” during the Kiss song? I mean, he’s not dating Beth, is he?
And Hey Jude was being sung to Julian Lennon, so is it inauthentic for Kris to sing “Hey Jude” in stead of ” Hey (insert name of someone Kris knows )?”

also so proud of scott! like for realz I really liked how he sounded on the group number.

  • aek

I think Adam should say “baby” as opposed to “woman.” It’s not who he is. It would be like me getting up there and singing “she” for “he.” It’s not who I am and it must feel weird for him….at least it seems like it would.

Then again, when I sing in the car, I often leave the pronouns as is. But still, I think I prefer the gender neutral for Adam. I, personally, wouldn’t have a problem with him saying “he” “him” or whatnot, but I don’t really think he should unless he just becomes a really HUGE star. Otherwise, I think some wouldn’t accept it and it could hurt him.

Haha – all of the audience WAS doing that (swaying the arms for Danny).

I have to admit – with all the Danny haters that you see all over the internet, I was surprised at the enthusiastic response he got from the crowd. They loved him!! (And I did, too). I even found myself thinking that if he put out a record like this, I just might put out the bucks for it.

  • GeminiDolly

I also like reading reviews from people who are not AI fans, just to see what their first impression is.

I was forced to go to last night’s show under much begging from my sister. She was sent out of town for a meeting and had plans with her daugher to see this show. I was begged to step in and take my niece. Being the good aunt I said yes. Just as I imagined it was sheer torture. There was singer after singer either off pitch, or just plan old mediocre. Just when I couldn’t take any more and was willing to risk being called the bad aunt – one Adam Lambert stepped on the stage. My, oh my. Wow, is all I can say. I have never seen that much sexual energy on the stage. I almost felt like covering my nieces eyes but I was like a deer caught in the head lights and couldn’t move. My mind turned to mush. I am still entranced. After I got home I immediately turned on the computer and googled everything that is Adam Lambert. Despite the fact I had to be up early today I stayed up most of the night. The combination of raw sex appeal and this incredible vocal gift makes for one exciting performer.
I’m glad they didn’t end the show with him I would probably be still sitting at the Dome thunderstruck. That last performer they had on – don’t know his name – was like a tranquilizer and I was able to pull myself together. It was such an odd show because Adam Lambert was so out of place. It would be like having a golf tournament with Tiger Woods except all his competitors are kindergartners.

    Once again Matt did amazing.
He is such a great performer! His piano take on “Georgia” is unbelievable
I got chills watching him. I am so happy he is finally showing all his full potential . Without the nerves he is just like wow .

I really believe that if Matt gets signed he will sell lots of records. After watchhing many videos of him from the first two stops, I am almost 100% he will get a record deal after the tour ends
    Go Matty G!

Eileen, I can’t even begin to tell you how refreshing your comment is.

I notice the disconnect between what’s online and what I see in the real world, too. Most people in my community were Danny fans, and if they weren’t they were Adam fans…but no “hate” for Danny even if they liked Adam better. But I haven’t really talked with anyone about AI except family, and I’ve been reading the Internet, and so on Sunday, I was literally afraid Danny would be booed off the stage. lol. Thankfully, he seems to be very well received. I’m happy for him.

  • aek

After watchhing many videos of him from the first two stops, I am almost 100% he will get a record deal after the tour ends

I certainly hope so. Love Matt!

  • Eileen99

Yes, aek, there is a disconnect. Go to a tour concert and you’ll see how many fans Danny has. I was really surprised, and he even had me on my feet – PYT was AWESOME and Maria, Maria, also. Didn’t like the last two quite as much, but when he prompted the audience to sway along with the “Wish” song, there was no hesitation whatsoever.

  • mar

My friend was there last night and she said Danny was preaching for what seems like at least 5 minutes. I am so sick of Danny preaching. I am going to the LA tour and I sure don’t want to hear all that. I mean, he acts like he’s the only one that has experienced a tragedy.

I am out of town when the Idol tour rolls through my city so I have to live vicariously through the You Tube vids. Thanks for posting them BTW. Matt Giraud…you sure are some kind of wonderful! Do you also think he should have changed the name ‘Beth’ to ‘Drake’ during the Kiss song? I mean, he’s not dating Beth, is he?

I’d bet my hat that Adam would never choose to sing a song named “Beth” on his own. He didn’t have a choice there. BTW, I didn’t have a problem with Adam NOT changing the lyrics to “Whole Lotta Love” for the show. It was classic rock night, and nobody was changing up the arrangements. It was fitting for the show. You’ll notice, however, he did change it to “baby” for the recorded version. It obviously matters to him.

And Hey Jude was being sung to Julian Lennon, so is it inauthentic for Kris to sing ‘Hey Jude’ in stead of ‘ Hey (insert name of someone Kris knows )?’

That’s an apples to oranges comparison. “Jude” could be anybody. A pronoun in a love song is a personal thing. Most of the time, when artists cover songs, they change the pronoun to fit the sex they prefer.

Adam has already done it on several occasions. Like I said, it must be important to him, or he wouldn’t bother. I like that he personalizes his songs in that way.

He makes it unisex and I like that too, I would love to hear him sing ‘him’ or ‘he’ in a song. Put it out there and make it a non issue.

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

I might as well pipe in since I’m not doing my work.

It doesn’t matter to me if Adam sings “Baby” or “Woman”, it’s still a great performance. If he mixes it up based on his mood, that’s cool. Adam has said he thinks it is hot that the girls go crazy for him, so maybe he is fueling the fire. I think of it like that episode from Sex In The City, when the girls were watching male gay porn because they thought it was hot. People are all over the place on what turns them on. How they act on what turns them on is a different ballgame all together.

As far as the twat/tweet, I don’t see any harm in that. I see Adam kind of young in regards to this side of his life. I remember a guy (straight) in high school who would always say the word “twat” instead of the word “what” because he thought it was hilarious.

I just think Adam is having fun with all of this, including the girls/women throwing themselves at him. I see it as him having a giggle.

  • dyg

Performing doesn’t have to be autobiographical, it’s about getting into a story.

I totally agree. There are many straight actors who have played gay roles and viceversa. So, I don ´t see why Adam should be changing the lyrics of a song just because of his sexual preferences. If he does change the lyrics, fine with me, but it should not be because he is forced to.

    Great job, Anoop and Danny!!!!!!!!

  • JosieX

I’m not surprised that Danny mentions his wife, both because she is such an important part of his story, and because I think he probably feels that he has a point to make to some people. I am remembering something he said during his interview the night he was voted off. He said he was looking forward to the tour because he would be able to talk to people without being accused of trying to get votes out of sympathy. It must have hurt him deeply (how could it not) when people said that.

I am sure that the kids have been told how much time they have to talk to the crowd, if they want to. Danny wants to use his time to encourage people to have hope for a better future even in their darkest hour. For people who like him, his comments will add emotional depth to his performance. For people who don’t, well, at least he will have the satisfaction of showing them that talking about his wife’s death is not about getting votes on a singing show. I don’t think that last reason is his reason for talking about this, but it is certainly how I feel.

  • Danica_K

That LA Times interview with Danny and Matt was pretty funny. Matt says, “Check out my Christian Rap album!” Ha ha!

Agreed. Beautiful man, beautiful body, beautiful moves. If they remind me of anything, it’s burlesque, and I hope during a concert toward the end of this month Adam forgets where he is and removes more than just his jacket. :devil_tb:

ETA: Terraj, thanks for your wonderful compilations! Watching them made me say that ^^!!

  • Ellie2

“Beth” might not have been Adam’s choice, but (and maybe I’m on crack) I thought he put his own homoerotic spin on it. The portion of the lyrics he sang:

    Beth, I hear you callin
But I cant come home right now
Me and the boys are playin
And we just cant find the sound
    Just a few more hours
And I’ll be right home to you
I think I hear them callin
Oh, Beth what can I do
    Beth what can I do

combined with the emphasis he put on “boys,” made the song really work and still seem true to Adam.

  • anovich

Like many others on here it’s nice and refreshing to hear/see that Danny is receiving such a positive reaction from the crowds. I am not a Danny fan – anyone who has read my previous comments on this blog knows that I am a huge Kris fan, with Allison as a close second – but I do think the guy has an amazing voice and there is definite potential for him once he figures out exactly what kind of artist he wants to be. In fact, if he went in a Rascal Flats type of direction I would totally consider downloading some of his stuff, if not actually buying his album.

Okay, I was in the middle of writing a review of all the rest of the idols here and somehow managed to just delete it all–argh! I will start it again and think I will cut and paste it instead.

Thanks everyone for your nice feedback! I will hopefully have something posted soon. If for some reason my review pops up here and ends in the middle of a sentence about Danny, you will know what happened!

I have to admit – with all the Danny haters that you see all over the internet, I was surprised at the enthusiastic response he got from the crowd.

I know what you mean. The internet isn’t real life. I don’t know a single other person in my life who posts on forums or blogs. It’s a subculture, it’s not the culture. And it’s different.
Danny came in third, so naturally he has a huge amount of fans. And of course they’re going to be at the concerts. Yet most of us are shocked he gets an enthusiastic response. That makes no sense.

I know a few people who are die-hard AI fans, yet have never looked at AI stuff on the internet. One even is the manager of a record store. And all of those people I know like Danny.
    Myself, not so much.

I’d love to read more from folks like that who have not had time to form any agenda, favoritism (or who have not spent far too many hours lurking on sites like mj’s :wink_wp:) but see these Idols fresh and for the first time.

On the baby vs woman debate I think woman sounds a lot better in the song but I suppose that’s in part because I’m used to hearing it that way. Either works for me although personally I think my name would sound the best. Heh.

Danny preaches AND humps a mic stand? Sounds confusing and I don’t want to see/hear him do either of those things – YMMV. Maybe I’ll catch up on my texting during his set or visit the merchandise tables.

I was at the show last night with 8th row seats. It was pretty incredible. I was there for the Adam Lambert show as was seemingly most of the audience based on the overwhelming set-long screaming and consistent standing. All of the Idols impressed, however. I guess I would rank them Adam – Matt – Anoop – Allison – Kris – Danny – Megan – Lil – Scott – Michael. I actually liked Megan live, but her short set and distracting Barbie-esque appearance limited my enjoyment factor.

The person who referred to Kris as a tranquilizer nailed it. Not that he wasn’t good or enjoyable, it’s hard to transition from pure seething psychedelic sexual energy to “dude in plaid with guitar” that quickly. Kris definitely had a large fan presence, but the energy level in the joint definitely lowered substantially.

Renina, I love Matt too and join you in hoping that he gets a record deal!

About Adam and the pronouns. I remember an interview where he was asked if his videos will reflect who he is, and he said that he wanted to make them in a way that includes everyone. I don’t think he will have lyrics about “he”, I think it will be gender neutral. I think if he is in a video making eyes at a boy, the next scene will probably have him making eyes at a girl. But I’m guessing that primarily he will want to do something cooler than the traditional singing to a hot model gyrating around on the screen. I hope so, I might even start to watch music videos again! Usually they are too boring.

About WLL specifically, I prefer “woman” to “baby”, I guess because I’ve heard it that way for so many years that baby just sounds wrong. That sets off cognitive dissonance for me more than hearing “woman” from Adam knowing that he’s gay. I think it works for me because he has a very masculine presence. But anyway, when he does songs in the future that I haven’t heard a bazillion times, however he sings them is going to be the way they are “supposed” to be.

    edit: dial back the defensiveness.

    pure seething psychedelic sexual energy

Dear Lord, how am I supposed to work after that kind of Adam imagery?!

  • AC

Looking at all the concert stuff makes me confused- should i go batshit crazy for Kris or be calm so I can have a steady hand to record his stuff. =)

and did we ever get a Scott fan’s point of view on the concert? hehe

I think that’s the beauty of Kris, though. He doesn’t need to have whatever crazy energy to be a good ending act. I personally think his laid back persona is a very nice closing to the variety of music offered.

Kind of off topic, but I have a question for you die-hard Kris fans :) Has he ever had any lessons to learn guitar or did he just pick it up on his own as a kid and run with that?

I still don’t understand that bedazzled, tri-color jean jacket/jean shirt/jeans ensemble. I really, really don’t get it. It…honestly…it looks like something my dear mother would wear whilst Wintering in Arizona. No lie.

Adam the “human slinky?” I love it!

Can’t remember which review it was (maybe Rushfield) who wrote that Adam started dancing “lithely” across the stage during Fame in a way not seen on AI. “Lithely?” That’s an understatement. Just sounded so funny to me when I read it.

That style of dancing (more “effeminate”; some would call it “gay” dancing style) sure wasn’t seen on AI, but for all the You Tube browsers out there, we’ve definitely seen all those moves before and MORE–the full on stripper pole hip swaying, shoulder shimmying, crotch grabbing wonder boy.

Can you say “Crazy” and “Kiss and Tell”? He’s really holding back compared to what we know he can do. Not sure if that style of “lithe” dancing fits the rock star image, but who cares? Sure bet his fans don’t.

Most Adam fans would love it if he combined the WLL rock god routine with a full on dance club routine ala “Crazy” in the same set. I think he will take that approach in his own concerts, but it might be too much to hope for for the summer tour. Then again . . . . maybe in Los Angeles!

No wonder Gene Simmons is confused about him. There’s nobody else out there who can do rock god plus the effeminate human slinky in one show and the women love it! Take that Gene!

Don’t think this is the right spot to put this (damn, I’m tired and I haven’t really done any work yet today. Can’t think. Argghh!), but Adam’s tweets/twats this morning were effing hilarious. My favourite fan comments that I hadn’t seen yet:

they are entering canada. BC is supposed to have great weed.

LOL OH ADAM WTF? ALSO IT IS 5:30 IN THE GODDAMN MORNING, NOW HE LEARNS HOW TO TWITTER? lol, I should have turned my text alert off.

kikiSebona @adamlambert you don’t have to come up with “gems of creativity” everytime you tweet… just balance it out… u know… tweet for twat.

    Priceless. :lol_tb:

I think he taught himself the summer he was 13/14 – this is according to both things he has said as well as from a recent article that I saw about his family where his father seems to say the same.

For Kris: Go batshit on the inside, and steady on the outside. That’s what I did :-) It’s a warm, fuzzy feeling.

My 19-year old son (who knew nothing going into the concert except that his mom is crazy for Kris, and also likes Adam) thought Scott was awesome, especially after I told him he’s blind. I think we all tend to forget that about Scott. I also thought he was much improved over the show performances.

  • weareallinnocent

    I still don’t understand that bedazzled, tri-color jean jacket/jean shirt/jeans ensemble.

He’s wearing it for me. :-)

  • flicker

and did we ever get a Scott fan’s point of view on the concert? hehe

Yep, some Scott fans have posted about the concert on this board. He has fans who love him, and of course, they loved his set.

  • AC

lakerchristinee- he said he picked it up one summer when he was 13 (?) and learned how to play it himself.. I’m sure he learned also by looking at his dad who plays too though

and i agree with you- I think the beauty of Kris and why they liked him was that he was himself and never tried to change to outdo anyone. =) and I don’t see any problem with closing with some slower songs as long as he’s awesome doing it and it sounds like he is.

and yes Gene Simmons is weird for thinking that he killed his career or whatever because I’ll speak for myself when I say that women love the gays!

  • Squirrely

80′s song for the closing number, so he tried to get an 80′s look.

ross – none taken. I did not intend to offend either with my Kris commentary. It was just a very different vibe between the two performers. Tranquelizers can be fun in their own right. :) Different strokes for different folks and all that.

And, I will certainly never ever try to hide or quash the fact that I am an Adam fan through and through. Definitely not what you would call an unbiased observer.

First part of my review from last night:

Review of Tacoma show of all but Adam and Allison (see my rambly thing above).

Michael Sarver: Did a good job and sounded good live. He had sparklies on his jacket, which for some reason I found amusing. He was nice to the audience and thanked us all for being there–comes across as very sincere. I liked his first song better than the second as I don’t really feel him as an R&B singer. He had good energy and one section of the arena seemed to really be Michael fans!

Megan: She is quite pretty and I lked her dress. I was impressed at how she walked on those very high shiny pink heels (it made my feet hurt to think about). I enjoyed her first song and think she was pushing too much vocally on the second. I did like the fact that she did a song for all those who aren’t in love, though (that’s me at the moment!). The backdrop behind her was pretty cute and matched what she was singing. Her voice is interesting and quirky, but doesn’t come off ais well as some of the others in such a large venue. My favorite thing was when she ended her set by “cawing” for us!

Scott: He rose up from the stage playing his piano and sounded pretty good, although his falsetto (high voice) isn’t as good as his lower range. His piano playing is very good and he actually seems very charming when he speaks. He did his little high-five joke again between songs. I enjoyed his second song much more than the first. His stage presence is okay, but he seemed a little overwhelmed by the size of the venue.

Lil: I loved Lil. She is tiny, curvy and moves well. Her opening outfit also had sparklies on it and she wore these silver glitter heels that reminded me of Elton John for some reason. She had everyone waving their arms during her first song and had us all standing during her whole set, which was pretty impressive. Her voice is big and filled the room. Her stage presence is pretty good and I think will only get better with time. She seemed pretty relaxed and had fun with her dancing. She took off the top dress part of her outfit and had a bodysuit on underneath. She knows how to work it, too.

Anoop: The biggest surprise of the night for me, as I wasn’t really much of an Anoop fan during the show. He came up out of the stage in a suit, sitting on a stool singing “You Were Always on My Mind”, which was a nice change of pace from Lil’s high energy set. His vocals were really nice. I remember thinking, “wow, he’s tall!” — and he has good stage presence as well. His second song wasn’t that interesting for me, but he tore it up on My Perogative and had everyone standing and dancing for the whole song. He took his jacket off and put on his funky glasses and danced pretty well. His set ended on a high note with lots of energy, and I found myself thinking that he’s going to be one to watch.

Matt G: He came out and started singing at a microphone and then his piano rose up out of the stage and he started playing while standing up. He was wearing pants/shirt/tie with a sparkly garter around one arm like an old-time piano player. His fedora was sitting on the piano when it rose from the stage, which was funny. His vocals are good, but he will benefit with some vocal coaching, as he seems to strain on some notes. He did say recently that he had his first voice lesson while preparing for tour. I think this will really help strengthen and enrich his voice. His piano playing is amazing, and really is a highlight of his set. The side screens showed closeups of his hands while he was playing. He has good stage presence and is a really FUN performer. He is having such a good time and has such good energy that you can’t help but have a good time too.

The first half closer was good with a retro 60′s feel. It fit in with the minimalist black and white staging (and the band wearing black suits, white shirts and black ties). The song the women started with was interesting as they each sang a verse but the dynamic (style) changed with each of them. Megan was 60′s and Lil was soul. Sarver’s solo made me laugh because he sang Tom Jones! He did a good job with it as well. Scott and Matt both sounded a little like they were straining on the high notes of their part, and Anoop and Lil’s rapping really rocked.

Staging note: The staging was pretty minimalist and contemporary feeling. Someone who had been to previous shows said it was quite different from past shows, but she really liked it. It felt more modern to her, which is what they were going for since the singers are more modern this year as well. I thought the backup singers were a hoot because they did these really well synchronized movements (they looked a little like robots). They did a sway from the waist up and one armed finger snaps which were pretty cool. The large background screen and side screens were programmed with color, pictures and words that went with each performer and added to most of the performances. It did overwhelm a couple of people — Scott being one, but was really effective. Each performer had a little opening montage suited to their personality — Allison’s had her face superimposed upon fire and Adam’s had photos of him from some of the photoshoots with a closeup of him doing his scream into a microphone).

Josie, I agree with everything you said. It really mostly bothers those who didn’t like him to begin with….I think it’s obvious that Danny will never please those people and he shouldn’t try. I think that Danny is naturally an emotional person. His emotions and thoughts tend to burst forth out of him….as witnessed in the video of his exuberence after the first show. He really is an open book…he tends to do and say what he feels.

Noone can please everyone, and certainly not those who want to dislike you, but I think Danny does please his fans. In the end, that is what matters.

And, truth be told, I can understand why he brings up his wife. When I lost my Dad, it helped me to talk about him. When he died, I had this overwhelming sense of why does the world just seem to go on as if nothing happened. Of course, I really knew why it did, but inside, it just didnt feel right. And I wanted others to hear about my Dad. It was almost as if I was saying, he was a person, a part of this world, just like the rest of you. I wanted him to be relevant…not just forgotten. It’s been 12 years since then, so I am very far removed from that now. But, when I step back and think about it, this is a HUGE deal for Danny at this point in his life. I think it gives him some peace for people to hear about his wife, and for at least some people to get a hopeful message out of the tradgedy (and a 27 year old dying is truly a tradgedy). I also think that it gives him some peace to know that he is trying to help people through the foundation in his wife’s name.

Wow, that “Hey Jude” video brought tears to my eyes even though it was only part of the song. Kris’s passion just blows me away! I love how he connects with his songs. He’s just going to get better and better!!!
