I totally forgot about the time change. I was thinking another hour.

  • In the Stars

Oh goody. I’m ready for some fun. Wish there were some streaming videos.

  • Pam

Oh wow. It really does start in 5 minutes. I guess I temporarily forgot about that too even though I knew they switched time zones. lol

  • In the Stars

I’m on the east coast and am stupid enough to stay up late enjoying all the concert news. You see there’s a problem……….I have no life. :( Actually I can’t stay away from Adam….pretty pathetic huh?

  • In the Stars

I wonder if they get sick of having to do that same old thing every time they walk on stage. Seems like it would get pretty old fast. How many more concerts do they have? I don’t know how they keep up the pace.

  • jill16

I’ll bet they will get tired of their songs by the end of the tour, which kind of concerns me since I won’t be seeing them until Aug 26. I hope all their voices hold out until then, especially Adams. He’s the only reason I’m going anyway:):):)

  • pjd

I take it there aren’t any protest going on in Utah … some weird irony there with protests in “liberal” California and nothing in “conservative” Utah :)

That is why Adam changes things up at every show. Also, Adam knows how to keep his voice in good condition. This is nothing compared to 8 shows per week for “Hair,” “Ten Commandments,” and “Wicked.”

  • Pam

Sarver is on stage now. If you choose to “attempt” to hear the cellcast (heh) then you can listen at Rickey’s HERE.

New interview from FOX Utah with Megan, Adam and Michael

  • Adamdebomb

In the stars: I don’t know either. But Adam is used to doing 8 shows a week, and he traveled with Hair in Europe, so I reckon’ he is used to the pace. They are being paid a nice sum, but it does seem like hard hard work. I think I am most happy about Lil earning the money-she and her husband have had a hard time of it, and with three kids to support? I would imagine this tour is a Godsend.

  • In the Stars

I hadn’t thought about that. There’s another advantage for Adam. He’s already used to grueling schedules.

  • alison8701

They must get sick of their songs. I mean, even now, it’s their 7th show– the same ol grind. Plus you know, Anoop even has choreographed moves for parts of his songs… I don’t think I’d be able to do it. So monotonous! It would be cool if they had like… twice as many songs, and like, rotated them and switched them up. Like, Anoop could have 6 and mix and match. That’s not asking too much, is it?

Lambert said his father helped him out with rent and also bailed him out in numerous financial situations throughout his music career. For Father’s Day, he bought his father to return part of the favor.

He bought his father? I wonder how much the father of an alien from the planet fierce goes for these days! :lol_tb:

For some reason I can never get the quotes to work in my posts. I want the quote used for the person’s statement that I’m responding to, but not with my response. I know I’m dumb but how do you turn off the quotes before you type your response?

This has nothing to do with anything but my computer SUCKS. It’s 10 years old and it keeps freezing etc. I’ve got a new Dell ordered. I hope it gets here this week because I’m ready to throw this one out in the front yard and jump up and down on it!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR I’ve been envious of you guys because you can jump from site to site easily. If I try that my computer kicks me off the internet completely.

  • DallasGlambert

There were some comments in earlier threads about whether or not Adam would be very well received in Utah. I noticed that in both of the Fox TV Utah news clips, the female newscasters both mentioned Adam. In one of them, she blurted out “Did you talk to Adam!!??” (lol) before the onsite reporter barely said anything. The one from earlier today, the newscaster said something like “Have you seen Adam, you know the one who won?” Then she sort of corrected herself. Both female fans I guess!

  • adamlover

Contrary to early postings by some fans being worried that Adam may not get a good reception in Utah, someone tweeted that crowd screams when Adam’s picture is shown. Also, that lady TV newscaster in foxnews utah seems to be an Adam fan since her first question to the field interviewer was did you talk to Adam. Well, I hope he does get a decent reception.

Something to note while waiting for concert updates:

Have some friends here in Asia who are in the movie biz and also teaching in film schools. Asked them to view the concert vidz . The good ones I got from MJ’s blog and asked for their comments on the singers. Got their emails back with comments, some pretty funny and some pretty insightful.

    1. Sarver, Scott, Matt and Lil : collective comment : Too many out there better than this four . One asked ‘“ why did you ask us to watch their videos ?

    2. Megan : Voice tone interesting. If she can act , will make a better movie personality than singer. Bad way to make her appear like Barbie. Should be dressed like Michelle Pfeiffer in Fabulous Baker Boys . She should sing Makin Whoopee. My friend sent link below.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TULYBRHBAs

    3. Anoop : Young Will Smith. Smooth moves. Definitely charismatic.

    4. Allison : Is she singing or mumbling ? One guy offered that she take acting classes to improve her diction.

    5. Danny : Great vocal potential but rather low on charisma. Should be better to listen to than to watch.

    6. Adam : Collective comments : This is our guy. If there is a charisma meter he would bust it . Even on just home made videos he is sizzling. Vocals – one of the guys developing an Indie film in Asia said ‘“ he should have Adam sing the movie theme. Now he is wondering if he can afford Adam.

    7. Kris – they call him the Radio guy. No cinematic appeal though . One guy said that Kris needs to perform before a mirror so he can see how he comes across. He said Kris will benefit enrolling in acting classes.

Guys ‘“ above are collated comments from those here in HK/Asia involved in film schools, film production and indie cinema development and also language school development.

Thought this would be interesting as none of them really follow American Idol. I just wanted to see how non fans perceive Season 8.

Ok. I’ve never attempt the cellcast on Ricky before. I’m wondering… does he have his own routine choreographed for all the singers? Right now he’s dancing to Lil’s ASL and I seem to recall someone saying he did it before. Maybe he refines it based on comments too? Will it get better as the tour progresses?

Two tweets from Sarver, who CANNOT SEEM TO PUT THE PHONE DOWN:

Finished my set then watched Meg from the side of the stage. She was amazing and the crowd is wild tonight. Woohoo! Party in Salt Lake.

And my foot is feeling much better tonight. The pain on a scale from 1-10 is down from a 10 to like a 4 or 5. Thanks for all the prayers.

Wow. I love this guy more every day! Did I say that? ;)

  • Montanagirl

I want to thank MJ and all of you that post on this site. I live in Montana and I will never be able to go to a concert. Also people at work think I am crazy so coming on to this site each night and seeing how people are reacting to the performances allows me to pretend I am there. Thank you

I’m happy that Megan is getting a lot of cheers because I feel sad that the bottom 2 is not getting much love, esp since they seem so nice.

Yup, I agree that people in HK would like Adam because a lot of the male artists are very flamboyant in concert. A lot also likes Kris because they also like the nice guys.

Hopefully no crazies will be picketing tonight….

Something to note while waiting for concert updates:

Interesting comments about the idols. Not surprised by their comments…but Allison doesn’t need acting classes to improve her diction. She needs voice lessons. Diction when speaking and when singing are totally different things. You shouldn’t sing the way you speak and if you are singing correctly. Vowels are different when you sing them as opposed to speak them. It’s just interesting how acting folk view the show as opposed to singers. There is a connection somewhere, but it isn’t the same thing.

“Can anyone tell me what someone means by Kris is a radio guy?”

Means that he isn’t meant for movies or “to be seen” so to speak. He’s just saying that Kris isn’t someone who he could see in movies which personally, I’m glad for. I’m tired of singers trying to act and vice versa.

Perhaps Scott has more health problems then we know. To me, he seems like the type of guy who likes attention and wouldn’t normally miss a chance to get some press. Or, maybe something is going around. Adam wasn’t well, then Allison was sick and perhaps it is Scott’s turn?

Almost none is tweeting anything about this concert. Is there anyone there? It looks like the upper deck is empty and that’s a small venue.

  • birchtree

Maybe Scott is uncomfortable with photos because the result (the photo) is not something he can see. I can totally get that (but then I hate getting my photo taken anyway, but if I never got to see what it looked like… Well, I would be really uncomfortable by the unknown…. just my thoughts).

Yeah, because Kris did so poorly in ‘visuals’ in front of 28 million people. LOL.

Kris has a voice for radio, and a face for video. He will do just fine. He may not be a movie star, but he has never mentioned any aspirations in that area.

I only listened and watched about 10 minutes of one cellcast, but at that time Rickey was wearing a pink wig and dancing next to a pole. Eh, I guess if it amuses him, but I would rather just wait for the vids.

I don’t know, what is the major industry in Salt Lake? I think it is tourism, and primarily snow skiing? If people are feeling the pinch, they may not have vacationed this winter. Money is tight for alot of people. I wouldn’t be surprised to find many AI concerts not sold out in this economy.

  • AC

San Jose was almost full last night…

Also, if you are talking about visuals as in concerts for the Hong Kong crowd, then no, Kris would not fit in. Adam would have to step it up because what he’s currently wearing on tour would be considered tame. haha. One guy wore pants that would hang down low to reveal the male thong from the back, no lie. (this is concerning the few concerts that they have in the colliseum there)

  • BestAI

I wonder why they added a few extra shows considering how bad the economy is.

  • http://www.f3-properties.com Animated

I don’t think being described as a Radio guy is bad for a singer. Barbara Streisand is very successful yet did not have as many concerts as Madonna nor is she on TV . Her voice and her choice of songs made her career.

The beautiful thing today is that singers have multiple choices / platforms to create successful careers – there is radio/ audio CD , there is Music Videos, there is TV, there is cinema and now there is the pesky Internet. According to Discovery Mag, 23% of the world’s population uses the internet at any given time. Including us guys !

  • Vada

David Cook and David Archuleta drew 50k people in the Philippines. I wouldn’t consider either of them to be glam or outrageous.

  • GaGaGlambert

It’s been mentioned that often you can get good tickets close to or on the day of the show – even those supposedly “sold out”. Any advice about the best way to do that?

  • Tess

The E center is huge….for concerts the maximum number they sit is about 12,000 and this doesn’t include the upper tier of seats since they sit on the hockey rink area. The E Center is also out in the burbs, not downtown so it is a drive to venue only….no mass transit.

Salt Lake is mainly a white collar town….Not a large industrial sector. Salt Lake is also a sportsman’s paradise with plenty of golfing, skiing, water sports, fishing, hunting, great hiking and camping. The mountain venues are only 15 or 30 minutes outside of town.

This is the hottest time of year in Salt Lake and everything kind of slows down during the hot dry summer months.

Idols sold out 2 concerts last year when David Archuleta was involved. I think that a lot of the hometown folks may be a little idoled out. Also David has come home for a concert already this year.

  • BestAI

Just looked at last year’s schedule. They had two nights in Utah last year. Archie sure must have been popular. They probably could have done two nights in Arkansas too.

Don’t know if this was mentioned yet (sorry if so), but Anoop tweeted that he hac his vocal chords checked today. They put something down his throat, but that he is okay. Interesting about the economy – if you want to buy or go to a concert, many people find the money, slow economy or not. Went to the Il Divo concert in Atlanta on 7/1. Paid $600 for 2 tickets up close and personal in the Fox Theater. It was sold out. Hubby and I looked at each other and thought, economy doesn’t seem worse for wear down here. Too bad Idols don’t go to Atlanta. Diluth, GA of all places. Seeing Idols in Charlotte, NC on 8/1. Daughter and I going for Adam. Can’t wait !!! Friend also flying in from Wales to see Adam. So either something is going around, or the Idols are not taking care of themselves (travel, late nights, time zone issues, lack of sleep, etc.). I assume this is typical?

Very typical. I think it’s probably the tight quarters, on the bus. It just breeds and spreads the germs.

  • GlamGirlLee

I already went to San Jose concert. Why am I still hanging out waiting for live commentary? Don’t need to answer that.

    So how did Adam do?

In the Stars: I totally understand! I don’t know a soul who would go with me – except my son, and he frankly does not need to go to concerts with his mom! (He is almost 17.)
I will probably go alone – working on the assumption that I will meet a few thousand like-minded people at the concert!

Tacoma and Oakland were close to sold out. Vancouver was not. A number of other cities are very close. Staples Center is just the top deck near the stage unless they are sandbagging tickets. Memphis only had aweful seat and then today I went on ticketmaster and bought 2 pretty good ones.

  • Tess

Usually an arena show will not sell the top tier of seats….the sound up there is terrible since you are always getting feedback sound and you’d swear the singers aren’t singing what you are hearing since its may be a second or so off. If an arena seats 18,000 for hockey or basketball I would gather with the seats taken away from behind the stage and the upper tiers not sold that a good crowd would be 12,000 including the chair seats.

I sat at a Rolling Stones Concert where I was in the first tier up but basically to the side and almost behind the stage. Never again…no matter how much I want to see the group or individual performer.

Re seats – stubhub has third row center floor seats for only $250, Manchester NH. Before anyone rolls their eyes, Manchester has a great little airport and it is cheap to fly into. And the final date for the tour might have the idols lingering longer after the show, since it is the last one. Just a thought.

I’ve always thought that Adam’s fans were more the internet type than Kris fans. Us Kris fans can be just as rabid, we just don’t seem to post much. I would’ve tweeted the concert if I were able to, but I didn’t have an iPhone until yesterday and my old phone was…. old.

I think so – the resale sites have lots of seats for Manchester, too, many of them much less than $250, I just was surprised to see such good seats for that price – Manchester is often overlooked – I fly into their airport to go to Boston, for ex and also for Maine.

I think the best ticket deal out there is Tulsa, Front Row center, $300. Of course you have to go to Tulsa, but Southwest flies there. The worst is Indianapolis, IN with the silly $9,000. I’m not even that crazy!!

Well, not sold out but really loud and enthusiastic would still likely be better than sold out but not as loud or enthusiastic.

It was a little hard to tell cause the cell cast kept cutting in and out, but it seemed like Kris talked more to the crowd in between his songs than he has done in the previous stops.

Hope Anoop’s voice is ok. Good to hear the doctor cleared him. I bet that why he wasn’t in the first 2 bubble tweets — he was probably getting his throat checked out

Review from the Salt Lake Tribune
    http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_12839055

Wow, that was quick. I’m digging the time change. While it’s always entertaining to see how a reviewer describes Adam’s look (at least Bjork wasn’t randomly thrown in there this time!) and stage presence, I feel really bad for Megan. Ouch!! She was so excited to be performing at home.

  • Truthiness

Review from the Salt Lake Tribune
    http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_12839055

Great googily moogily, that is one biased review. I mean I’m an Adam fantard and that just was lame to me. But than I feel that review had less to do with Adam per se, and more to do with some lingering bitterness about last season and David A losing. Whoa, Utah paper, let it go.

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

It sounds like Megan did ok from that review. Interesting that the reviewer preferred Archie last year over Cook, but prefers Adam this year over Kris. I wouldn’t have expected that.

  • AC

Even though I don’t like reviews where they try and rehash who should have won, I am most upset that they gave Megan a bad review! She’s the home-town girl! Give her a break! =(

  • SarahP

ok i told myself over and over again not to raise to the bait….but aaarrrggghhh the review from the Salt Lake Tribune got on my nerves :wallbash_tb:

the show turned out to be a battle between second-place finisher Adam Lambert and winner Kris Allen, and Lambert demonstrated, for the second year in a row, that the second-place finisher should have won more of America’s votes.

And despite the widespread acknowledgment of Allen’s “cuteness” and easygoing charm on songs such as “Heartless,” it was the crowd’s appreciation for Lambert’s talent on songs such as “Whole Lotta Love,” “Mad World,” and a David Bowie medley that easily made him the winner of the night.

its soooo damn annoying to read about reviews comparing the two….i get so riled up everytime someone says Adam should’ve won blah blah blah.enough already! but i guess i have to develop a thicker skin and expect more of this to come and not let it under my skin

  • iluvai

  • Q3

    From the Salt Lake review:

But it was Lambert who the crowd came for, evidenced by the loudest squeals and shrieks of the nearly three-hour night, (Apparently, some women and girls didn’t read, or didn’t care about, the cover story in Rolling Stone where Lambert revealed that he was gay.) It was actually refreshing to see such crowd support for a gay man in Utah.

Sarah P, don’t bother yourself. Don’t you see how fast the article came out? Whoever wrote it had scripted it in his mind before coming to the concert. To me, comparing Adam and Kris at this time is stupid, because the are no more in competition. AI is trying to promote each of them on the tour by showcasing the kind of artists that they are. tThis person who wrot the article is just bitter from last year. I don’t blame him, but the Judges especially Simon who calls the show for contestants before America votes. Forget about these reviews and have your peace because it’s not a competition anymore.

  • callitags

In The Stars, and anyone else who would like to meet concert buddies for Adam or any other artist that you love, I have to agree with and repeat the advice given by BestAI. Go to their official sites, or search for fan sites, and join the forums or mailing lists that are set up for fans to talk to one another.

Stick around, observe, join in on conversations, etc. You’d be amazed at the friendships that can develop through love of an artist and music. You already have something in common to start with! I’ve met several close friends (friendships which have now spanned years) and my husband all because I loved someone’s music and wanted to chat with others who felt the same. Good luck finding concert buddies!

Even though I’m a rabid Adam fan and I do think he stole the show (I was in Oakland), it really saddens me to read reviews that are uncomplimentary to the other performers – I sure prefer the ones that mention the good points of each performer as they all have some moments in their sets. The “contest” should be over now and we should all get to enjoy all of them, including our own favorites. But I guess that is the nature of “reviews” – I learned that lesson here – I know I got very protective when I read Adam bashing but I’m learning to deal with it.

It seems unfair to compare them because Adam has had so much more stage experience (theater at least) that being on stage must come a lot easier to him – I don’t think any of them has had half the stage experience. Most of them will certainly improve with more practice, and some may end up being “born to perform on stage” once they get that experience and feel comfortable up there.

That said, I think Adam also had a pretty big agenda and to quote Simon “a point to prove” with this tour. So many critics during the show run said that he belonged on Broadway, not on the concert stage. Everyone I know that went to the Oakland show has said they would go to see him in concert solo (even a friend who preferred Danny on the TV show). I guess he’s proving this point – and I’m thrilled.

I don’t worry about that reporter. The crowd really seemed to love Kris. And he sound really good on what I could heard from Rickey’s cellcast.

yes i listened too. you’re right

  • http://www.TheAdamLambertConnection.com/forum flynnsgirl

I don’t think any reviewer is making this a competition. When the Idols perform in the order they left the show then it is logical to base your opinion on it as an Adam vs Kris thing. The guys review compared Adam going out second to Kris winning, His opinion was that Adam should have ended the concert, he thought Adam was better and his opinion was the crowd did too.
If Kris gets a good review all is right with the world, but if the reviewer likes Adam better then he apparently didn’t stay to hear Kris, he wrote the review before even hearing the concert, he was biased, blah blah, blah.
Maybe there is a chance that these people who are reviewing the concerts just think Adam is better.
    It’s not a conspiracy.

  • lola

Just don’t read the reviews especially if it’s against your favorites. It doesn’t have anything to do with their future success anyway.

  • AC

I don’t know why it’s that big of a surprise to see them support Adam because those that would not support a gay man would not even buy the ticket.

I’m just still mad at the no Megan love! =(

I wish the Kris fans at these concerts would tweet more. I’m just finding Adam and Matt fans tonight on Twitter who are actually at the concert.

Maybe they’re still voting, lol. Sorry, just my weird sense of humor when I read that! Seriously, I wish everyone could just love all the Idols but that’s just a dream I guess. Can’t wait to see all of them live, esp. Adam! :wub_tb:

It was actually refreshing to see such crowd support for a gay man in Utah.

    Wow. That was unexpected.
    # 242

It seems like the song “Change is Gonna Come” was not just a random selection by AI founder Simon Fuller for Adam . They are in this business and they probably saw that a gay person with such great talent will eventually cease to be referred to as that gay guy but will become a respected performer , cheered on for his talent .

And I was kind of apprehensive about Utah. It just shows that it is no good to give importance to stereotyped comments. We just need to continue to keep open minds and hearts.

Thanks Utah for the warm reception to these kids.

  • Vada

I would respect the writer’s opinion more if he had stayed for Kris’ set. I think his posting time for his story, proves he did not.

The only detail from Kris’ set was the mention of Heartless. I am pretty sure he knew that song was in the set, in advance.

  • Angel78

Short clips from tonight’s show , all the Idols sounded great

wow!!! i have to give a BIG SHOUT out to the production team. the visual and sound effects were amazingly amazing. i only saw a couple of videos of this concert so far but i loved the intro, especially adam’s which looked like a huge BOOM BOOM POW

i used to be very much into dramatics during my university days, and usually the cast got more praise than the crew but in reality we actors owe all our successes to the crew, who is our biggest backbone. i doubt adam’s set or kris’s set or anyone else’s set will have that kind of effect if not for all the work done by the production team. so i have a say a BIG THANK YOU and GOOD JOB :clap_tb:

  • Q3

And I was kind of apprehensive about Utah. It just shows that it is no good to give importance to stereotyped comments. We just need to continue to keep open minds and hearts.

Now maybe people can stop worrying about what will happen when he plays the South, too.

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

The story was posted at 10:17 pm Mountain time (12:17 eastern)

Kris was doing the Bright Lights guitar solo at 11:50, and then Hey Jude and the 8 minute long DSB.

It is obvious the article was written before the end of the show.

That makes no sense. The concert started at 7 p.m. Mountain time so it ended probably at 10 p.m. Mountain time. The reporter probably has a laptop with a wireless card with him. I”m sure he wrote a review of the first half of the show during intermission. After the concert he wrote the last couple of paragraphs and probably emailed it to the paper. The set list has been around for ages so basically he had to plug in how they performed it and the audience’s reaction.

  • BestAI

I’m so proud of Utah. A CHANGE IS COMING!!! Thank you Adam for being who you are, and thank you Utah for accepting Adam for who he is.

  • stargirl

The reason Kris got a off review was because the “professional” critic didnt bother to wait until kris was done to write one.Am i suppose to read it seriously? The point of the concert isnt to see gay pride. Its to see people sing.

  • hwc

    Maybe they’re still voting, lol.

Now, that’s funny! It is possible though. The kid who won might actually be the most popular at all these concerts, it’s that his peeps are too busy texting to get up and shake their booty. Who knows. It doesn’t really matter. The newspaper said he was “cute”.

ETA: Uhh, just to avoid any trouble, when I say “shake their booty” I am refering only to the fans of legal age. For the younger fans, I meant shake their glowsticks.

  • GeminiDolly

How do you guys figure the reviewer did not stay for Kris’ set?

  • LisaE

Change will really come to Utah when the reviewer doesn’t even have to mention that Adam is gay. Was it a part of the concert or his performance? NO.

Undercooked, you beat me to it. This review was filed shortly after the concert ended at 10pm.

ETA: To be fair to the reviewer, this concert is set up, in many ways, to be a continuation of the competition. Instead of mixing up the line-up, the concert counts down backwards from 10 to 1, with cheers, for the most part, getting progressively louder. It nearly begs a reviewer to compare the final performances. There would be fewer comparisons between Adam and Kris if they weren’t back to back. Given the set-up, they are inevitable. This won’t be the last review like this one, and the day will come when a review absolutely bashes Adam and glorifies Kris.

It looks like to me the reporter had an early deadline. If I were to guess, he probably only had about 15 minutes to wrap up his review after the concert. He just focused on the top two because that is all he had time for. Like I said upthread, he probably wrote his review of the first half of the show during intermission.

  • jammasta

Shaking my head at the stupidity that is turning this concert into a battle between Kris and Adam. Good job, David Burger, at failing. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, etc.

Only good thing out of that article was how it said Utah supported a gay person. I still think Adam is getting a bit too much praise, but I’m kinda glad it’s the conservative Utah doing it.

The point of the concert isnt to see gay pride. Its to see people sing.

In reality, for a lot of journalists, the main point is to get your story filed by deadline (which was probably right after the concert was over). This is why a lot of local press do interviews before the concert.

I hate the “welcome to show business” argument, it’s pretty much the stupid “everybody’s doing it” rationalization. Besides, critics can also be harsh yet constructive. Burger seemed to totally IGNORE Kris. Also, turning anything Kris and Adam into a “battle” would be beyond stupid at this point. The Idol show is over, comparing the two badly will just make people hate you.

David Burger is a professional music reporter/critic and a Stanford Journalism graduate. If he couldn’t write that simple review in the 25 minutes between the time the concert ended and when it was uploaded, he needs to find a new job. Also, most of it was about Megan and probably written during intermission.

Here’s a link to his concert advance piece featuring Megan and Danny. He doesn’t appear to be an Adam fan.

It includes this interesting Michael tidbit (proving Michael must be bored!):

Michael Sarver ‘” he hasn’t seen his children for two months, but anticipates seeing them in several days, when the tour will be in L.A. for a few days. He said he feels guilty about the crew doing so much work setting up and taking down the sets, and has asked to help out, which producers always forbid him to do.

From that link that Q3 posted, Sarver talks about making a modern country album?? I thought he said he was not country?

That, and that reviewer really loves David Archuleta- he’s mentioned in everything you linked to!

So back to Megan =), I’m glad that her son got to see her perform.

  • Q3

That, and that reviewer really loves David Archuleta- he’s mentioned in everything you linked to!

I hope so, this is Archie’s home town, plus this reporter has very conservative taste. From what I can tell, his AI8 favorite is Danny. But that is a guess.

  • JosieX

I was surprised that the reviewer didn’t say more about Kris. I kept looking for the link to click to page 2 and then realized with surprise that that was it. I don’t mind when reviewers like one kid better than another but I do think that Kris deserves more attention that that.

I hope that videos will refute his opinion of Megan getting a tepid response, I’ll be sad if she wasn’t warmly embraced in her home state. I watched her set when we got those high quality videos a couple of nights ago. She has moments when she sounds really good. I was sorry to read in that interview that she vows to never take a dance lesson, I guess she sees the awkwardness as part of her quirky charm. But I think that one can be quirkily charming and still execute moves that enhance the performance. I don’t know about her, I’ve just never picked up any passion for what she’s doing as I have from the other kids. I think that’s a part why she had trouble picking up much of a fan base, it seems like she’s more “well if it happens it happens and if it doesn’t, oh well”. Of course I don’t know if that is how she really feels, but that is how she comes across to me. I think she is a nice girl but I don’t know how she is going to do if she doesn’t get some good guidance and direction from someone.

The tweets from the concert 9I could only find 3 and comments on Rickey’s cell cast (which I just can’t listen to) report the same tepid response. So it’s probably true. Perhaps there will be a video posted, but not many Megan performance videos get posted.

She did get featured in all three local newspapers and on the local Fox station :-) !

Not everyone is gonna like Kris Allen. Obviously Kris Allen did not make a lasting impression on this reviewer, so he didn’t feature him much in his opinionated review. Should we question the ethical nature of his journalism practices now? ;) I actually thought this Burger guy was way harsher on Megan Joy, his hometown girl, than Kris freakin’ Allen. CAW CAW

  • Maria22

Megan is a beautiful girl (I saw her in Vancouver) but she really doesn’t stand out through her singing, I thought even Michael was more ‘upstanding then her, however, she is so easy on the eyes I can totally see her on tv or something like that…

  • Q3

They gave her a good response before she started singing but the video does show what happened after she finished. And I think her second song is the one that is really causing her trouble.

  • hwc

I can totally see her on tv or something like that

Not with that godawful tattoo. It probably seemed like a good idea at the time.

  • jammasta

I’ve always liked Megan’s voice, she just didn’t use it well in the finals. Put Your Records On and Black Horse and the Cherry Tree were great, IMO.

Sometimes I feel like people are watching a COMPLETELY different show than I saw despite them doing the same songs all the time. I thought Megan was fantastic in Sacramento (Although I’d still put her around 7th compared to everyone else, the rest of them were that good to me).

  • BeckyMD

I don’t think this reviewer has any love in any AI8 idols, neither Adam nor Kris nor Megan. Through the series of his articles, he compared this year’s lack of audiences vs. last year’s two concerts and pointed out less news outlet because Archie was not in this cpncert; he showed no support to hometown girl Megan, and used Adam ‘dominating’ the stage only to side-prove that Archie should’ve won last year.

Why are we even arguing about some reviewer, who has finished his job and gone home? I just watched Megan’s video and to be frank, the response wasn’t encouraging. After watching Kris and Adams, I must be frank that they had just about the same applause efrom the intro and first appearance on stage. However, what I realised was that, Adam’s intro is very loud so you could mistake it for applause. Kris’ intro is opposite, very subtle so you know…….. Just read it for yourselves.

He wrote 2 very nice features about Danny during the season. He never said that Danny was his favorite but either he likes Danny OR he thought Danny was of the greatest interest to SLT readers.

He’s also writen some very nice pieces about Megan, just not about her singing. And no other music reviewer has been very positive about Megan either.

The photos came from Adam’s Facebook page, and the date on the bottom is June 27. They were in LA at that time.

  • BestAI

Could it be that the reviewer thought Adam was the best of the night? Period. Many other reviewers thought the same in the previous shows, and the people who reviewed the shows said Adam got the biggest reception.

  • JosieX

I think that makeup artists can do a good job of covering tattoos (isn’t Angelina Jolie supposedly kind of covered with them?), but that would be a pain. I’ve always that that Megan would go over really well in a small, sophisticated setting where she is dressed like a gorgeous torch singer and does jazz songs. I picture her in the elegant gown…but then there’s that awful tattoo. But there’s always Dermablend. I don’t think that would appeal much to Megan though, even though I think it would work for her (the jazz club thing). Maybe Kara will write a song for her (I’m not being sarcastic, I think Kara probably could write a song that would leverage her strengths as a vocalist).

  • hwc

Sometimes I feel like people are watching a COMPLETELY different show than I saw despite them doing the same songs all the time. I thought Megan was fantastic in Sacramento (Although I’d still put her around 7th compared to everyone else, the rest of them were that good to me).

I have very high standards of comparison for arena rock shows (which are really not my prefered venues). For female singers, I would compare to Shania Twain, who isn’t the best singer in the world, but who put on an arena rock show, start to finish, beyond comparison. The staging, the timing, the hooks, the incredible charisma and energy. By that standard of comparison, Megan just standing there exuding no energy, no charisma, no nothing, warrants very low marks. She’s basically a high school talent show level performer totally out of her class.

I’m not being a total snob here. I thought Kellie Pickler was fine on the Idol Tour despite being a marginal singer. She was energetic, funny, and mildly entertaining. The really cute black teenager the same year, Lisa somethingorother, was also mildly entertaining and professional, she did a nice jazzy piano ballad. I mean, nobody was coming out of their seats, but she held attention for two or three songs. Megan isn’t even close to that level.

  • locracia

Looking or waiting for videos of today’s performance. Frustrating of looking to find one when they are named: “Kris Allen-Hey Jude” with no date, place on the title. Is there a different way of looking for them? Those of you who found the one with Kris first.

  • girlygirl

I read the review and my problem is that he talked about Kris’ cuteness. Which has nothing to do with his music. He also said nothing about the crowd’s reaction to Kris — which, listening over the cell cast seemed to be fantastic. I fail to understand how the reviewer didn’t hear or sense that the crowd enjoyed Kris’ set very much.

I have no problem if any reviewer prefers Adam’s set or his overall performance or Adam’s style of music. But is it so hard for these reviewers to actually talk about Kris’ own set, rather than constantly talk about how he has to follow Adam? It’s getting more than a little frustrating. I would actually prefer it if the reviewer had made a real argument about what he felt was bad or boring or whatever about Kris’ set, rather than just dismissing him as cute and easy going.

To me, there’s just a weird disconnect going on between what I’m seeing on the YouTube videos, which is the crowd really enjoying Kris’ set and cheering very loudly for him, and the reviews, which basically disregard him.

Don’t get me wrong — I’m glad Adam is getting all this praise. He certainly deserves it. It would just be nice for a reviewer — ANY reviewer — to talk about Kris’ set — in either a positive or negative way, I don’t care — with as much depth and critical analysis as they do with Adam’s set. Instead, it’s starting to feel like the critic doesn’t even think he’s needs to bother reviewing Kris. Which is too bad, because Kris is working his butt off and deserves to be given SOME sort of actual criticism that is more insightful than “he’s cute”.

It’s too bad he didn’t like Megan’s set. But at least he actually went into some detail about what he thought about it. Wich is more than he bothered to do with Kris.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Ok, end of rant (deep breath)

Looking or waiting for videos of today’s performance. Frustrating of looking to find one when they are named: ‘Kris Allen-Hey Jude’ with no date, place on the title. Is there a different way of looking for them? Those of you who found the one with Kris first.

You can search for Kris Allen and then when you get result select uploaded today. But there isn’t anything yet except the ones posted on this thread. 1 minute clips and Hey Jude.

One good way to find videos quickly is by surfing around the fansites like ONTD_AI (on livejournal–they have a post for each concert); Idolforums (if you can handle it!); TWOP forums — they have forums for each performer and for general concert stuff.

You can also try a google search by putting in the location, date and person’s name. Sometimes that works as well. So far, the only whole video I have found was the one from Kris (far away but great sound).

I think that yeah that Adam will probably always get the best reviews just because his stage presence is so electifying but that doesn’t mean the others aren’t talented in their own way. Adam is just more showy.

I am so happy Matt’s been getting so many glowing reviews for the first half.
I’ve watched many tour videos of him and he is so damn talented. Love his set.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Matt ends up having a record deal after the tour ends.
I hope so! I think he would make great albums. Can’t wait! I love Matty G.

From a review on IDF – Makes me fell sad for Megan:

One thing that surprised me was (like a few people have mentioned) I thought the response for Megan would be huge since she’s the hometown girl. But I’d say about 4-5 of the Idols who came out said something like “Let’s hear it for Megan, we’re in her hometown!” and then waited for people to cheer- EVERY time, it kind of sounded like her friends and family were cheering loudly, and everyone else was like “oh, I guess I should clap to be polite.” I mean people cheered, but comparing it to how people cheered for Adam, it was like a pin drop vs. a lion’s roar. Totally nuts. The crowd was there for Adam and you could definitely tell.

I bought tickets to 2 concert solely because of Adam. I am also looking forward to seeing Alison and Kris.

But, having watched some of the videos, I am really looking forward to seeing Matt and Anoop live, without the glare of the judges. Matt in particular really impresses me.

    AC –

Did Michael post the bottom part, too, about not doing good enough and haters and so on? If so, and it looks like it, then that is all really, really sad. Sounds like he’s missing his wife and kids a lot, too. He needs to rest and get some perspective – after all, only these ten can say they made the Idol tour over a 100,000 others and when you look at it that way they are all winners.

“It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, its a new life,” Michael. Believe it and revel in this experience!

That’s horrible for Megan. I’m really starting to feel for the girl. It costs nothing to cheer, nothing, I don’t understand why people would hold back on their own hometown girl.

I am most upset that they gave Megan a bad review! She’s the home-town girl! Give her a break! =(

    I know, that really stinks.

ETA: ***I don’t know why it’s that big of a surprise to see them support Adam because those that would not support a gay man would not even buy the ticket.***

Maybe that’s why it wasn’t sold out. Oh well a lot of people missed out on a good show.

Do we know the LA sales for tomorrow night?

  • jelena

were people screaming and screeching during mad world as much as during whole lotta love?

  • Squirrely

I mean, I really, really don’t enjoy reading negative reviews about Adam‘“and happily there haven’t been many, though that could change’“but you just have to not get swept up in each individual comment and review.

Me neither and I really thought Utah was going to slam him just because of his performance style. TY Utah for proving me wrong.

ETA: ****However, what I realised was that, Adam’s intro is very loud so you could mistake it for applause. Kris’ intro is opposite, very subtle so you know’ ¦’ ¦.. Just read it for yourselves.****

I’m certain if you are sitting in the audience you would know the difference between the applause and the intro noise.

  • weareallinnocent

So I want to like that SLC review because it’s good for my guy, Adam. But it’s bad for my boy, Cook. What to do, what to do?

I could read it cold and say, that reviewer must have enjoyed Adam’s set a lot, particularly since he warranted a favorable comparison to the hometown hero of S7. Or I could conclude that the author has a secret crush on Kris, given that’s how it turned out for the last guy who said he thought Kris was cute. :-)

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

So, pleeaase tell me how the crowd reacted and if there was some kinda connection with the audience. That’s not too much to ask, isn’t it?

He did, he told you that the crowed reacted better to Adam. This is a concert of 10 acts, not every reviewer has the column space, or the time before deadline, to write a mini essay on every act.

This reviewer gave a broad impression of the concert as he saw it, it’s perfectly valid for him to do so, especially since most of the non-AI centric critics, I suspect, don’t really see the point of debating the artistic merits of what is essentially a karaoke concert meant for AI fans only.

As to the comparison to last year’s AI contest, I think that was put in to add texture and possibly a little hint of controversy to his review.

I love how we are all obsessing about this. To me I think it’s Adam’s way of giving Kris support on a tough day like the one he had and letting him know that he’s got a friend in his corner out there on that stage to help him get through it. JMHO.

Yup, it’s a reality television show that thrives on competition between artists that are in completely different genres. So the fans can get exercised and think it’s winner take all when it can be win/win or lose/lose.

Utah is a special case with Archie but it looks like the tour isn’t doing as well as S7. I see lots of empty seats in thise videos. The economy is a factor but I think it goes along with the reduced dowloads sales, etc. The Davids just provided a bigger punch. And Kris and Adam are def not holding hands.

I think Anoop’s bubble twitter says a lot. Even when they are goofing off and doing guy stuff, there is Kris playing and singing in the background. There are lots of casual shots in the mansion of Kris at the keyboard or slouched on a sofa, playing and singing.

When Kris says it is about the music for him, I have no trouble believing it.

  • lucy

I hope that videos will refute his opinion of Megan getting a tepid response, I’ll be sad if she wasn’t warmly embraced in her home state.

Well, in the words of Simon Cowell, the show is “about finding a future superstar, not about feeling sorry for people who aren’t very good.” Same goes for concerts. If somebody isn’t very good, well, giving them a “warm embrace” isn’t giving them a very accurate message about their performances.

And Megan already sounds pretty delusional about her prospects — one of those Utah articles was quoting her as saying that she wants to record many *different* kinds of music, besides being a model and an actress. And of course she’s already noted that she also wants to write books. …. And yet — she’s apparently never seriously tried to do any of these things (aside for her AI tryout), never really practiced much, never studied any of it!

Especially given her looks and the vulnerability of her position as a single mom — both of which make her easy pickings for lying users who’ll promise to make her some kind of star — she is definitely one who badly *needs* the “welcome to show business” point made to her. If she doesn’t find out darn quick how audiences are actually valuing her current work and realizes she needs to do a lot of practice and studying and that, in her case, it’s not just a matter of being “discovered” at this point, she’s likely to fall for the line of every slimy huckster who’s attracted to her blonde legginess and promises to make her into something and then leaves her on the side of the road.

Reality check is ultra-important in a case like hers, in my opinion.

Okay, so, just a question. Is it on topic to comment on the reviews of the tour or just the tour? • Mary102

They must get sick of their songs. I mean, even now, it’s their 7th show’“ the same ol grind. Plus you know, Anoop even has choreographed moves for parts of his songs’ ¦ I don’t think I’d be able to do it. So monotonous! It would be cool if they had like’ ¦ twice as many songs, and like, rotated them and switched them up. Like, Anoop could have 6 and mix and match. That’s not asking too much, is it?

As someone who has done a little performing, you’d be surprised – every night really is like a whole new night, and no matter how many shows, it doesn’t really feel boring or old. A lot of it comes from the fact that, as a live performance, you have both the other people on stage (band, actors, what have you), and, especially the audience, to really feed off of and make each performance unique.

Something will always be different, and I’m telling you, the energy from the audience can positively make each show better or worse than it might otherwise be.

After doing shows, we’d frequently talk more about how great an audience was than how well we were :-)

  • TwigLA

BTW, we have another bubble tweet, this time with Anoop, Matt and Kris

    http://www.bubbletweet.com/showBT.php?id=i9u5t

LOL, that’s serious funny. Loving Kris on the guitar doing ‘Blackbird’

Now all I can think of his Simon’s ‘fear of birds’ last year. I sooo want AI to have a ‘Byrds’ theme week or ‘Songs About Birds’

I’m just making my way through the posts.

I totally don’t understand why someone would have film school people review the videos from the tour or why I should care. Are the videographers looking to break into the business? As far as I know, the only people interested in acting are Adam and Megan. Adam already is an actor, if we consider musical theatre in the realm of acting, and I do. (Note: NOT a slam. I like Adam a lot.) Kris has stated he has NO interest in going into acting – he had enough of it doing the Ford commercials.

I’ve tried to listen to the cel casts on Rickey.org and the quality is just incredibly awful. I don’t know how anyone could do a review or form any opinion on the performances from them. I, however, find Rickey hilarious and endearing. It’s like watching a little kid. He’s so full of joy.

That Buddah guy on the Utah Fox show was annoying. Seems I remember him from last year. I’m surprised the roadie didn’t call security in on him. He definitely wasn’t amused.

    Going to read more.

  • Mary102

Just read the Salt Lake City Review, and this line of course struck me:

It was actually refreshing to see such crowd support for a gay man in Utah.

Yeah, I’ll admit I’ve never been to Utah (except a lay-over in SLC), but I wish we could do a little better than this in terms of “progress”. What century is this?

  • Q3

Well I sure hope that I get to see the real WLL for my concerts. Even the Salt Lake crowd seemed to scream the loadest for the mike straddle!

My guess is that I get 1 PG13 version (Little Rock) and one full-Elvis version (Memphis).

  • Valentin432

I think Anoop’s bubble twitter says a lot. Even when they are goofing off and doing guy stuff, there is Kris playing and singing in the background. There are lots of casual shots in the mansion of Kris at the keyboard or slouched on a sofa, playing and singing.

When Kris says it is about the music for him, I have no trouble believing it.

None of them is “all about the music”, if Kris just wanted to play and sing he will still be in Arkansas doing these things in bars and small concert scenes.
Adam said it many times, Idol is a showcase for artists who want to become stars, Kris seems like a very smart guy and I think he shares the same approach to the show.

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

Utah Glamberts and Kristallites don’t seem to be coming through with the vids :(
    I’m disappointed.

  • Q3

Yeah, I’ll admit I’ve never been to Utah (except a lay-over in SLC), but I wish we could do a little better than this in terms of ‘progress’ . What century is this?

Utah is arguably the most conservative state in the US (battling it out with Wyoming). But Salt Lake City is not a particurly anti-gay place:

The state’s gay pride parade is the second most attended yearly parade in the state. Three state legislators, Sen. Scott McCoy, Rep. Jackie Biskupski, and Rep. Christine Johnson, are openly gay[1] and Utah is one of only a handful of states where the legal recognition of same-sex couples was voted on in the state Senate in March 2005 when it considered creating a reciprocal beneficiary. The measure failed by eight votes.

Frankly, there are some very radical right-wing groups in the area (a small but loud minority), and so I was pleased that Adam being gay was such a non-issue.

  • evanjane

It seems to me when watching the videos, the crowd is very loud when Kris is introduced, continues when he begins to play, but then quiets down to LISTEN. I want to hear Kris sing, not the screaming. The occassional shout-out or whistle or yell, I don’t mind. It lets the performer know you’re loving it, but doesn’t disrupt the music.

WLL is rockin’, the music is loud, the vocals are loud, the audience can get just as loud without interferring with the music.

It seems strange to me that what I believe is common sense, a logical conclusion drawn as to how audiences will react to different songs, somehow gets lost in the equation with some people.

Rockin’ songs, people will rock out, get crazy, get loud, dance WLL– Starlight/MW– hopefully the audience is listening, not screaming because those are well-worth taking in completely–David Bowie Medley, disco-ey, danceable. Kris’s Heartless is a bit mellower, but still enegized, Ain’t No Sunshine, definitely, sit and listen to me song, Bright Lights starts out mellow and then rocks, The Killer’s song is cool and should get people into it.

Song Vs performer’s capabilites, seems to get lost in these disuccsions and yes, in some reviews.

David Cook had to endure many a bad review on Tour. Many a bad review on his debut album. Daughtry the same. If I went by what every reviewer/critic wrote, there’d be fewer novels read, fewer movies seen, fewer shows/concerts gone to, less CDs purchased. If something appeals to you, it appeals to you.

As far as, Kris is concerned, I think he loves it when the audience goes quiet because people are LISTENING to the song. I think Jim from MTV’s IDOL in 60 Seconds mentioned how cool it was when Kris started to sing to a huge crowd at his homecoming that they had all gone silent. I believed he mentioned you could hear a pin drop and he, Jim that is, got goosebumps. I believe that is the essence of Kris Allen, he quietly captivates. It defintely appeals to me.

  • PattyH

Someone, up thread, asked how the ticket sales were going in LA. Staples still only has tickets in the rafters for sale, sections 300. Ontario has the same except their’s are numbered in the 200s.
I consider these 2 shows Adam and Allison’s home concerts so they should be close to sold out. The only seats these two venues are not selling is the ones behind the stage. Someone, yesterday here, said that arenas don’t usually sell the upper seats but at Staples, that is not true. They have always sold the upper seats. And I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a newer arena or not, but I’ve always thought the sound at Staples is excellent.
I am thinking that there are probably many people going to the Ontario show now that they’ve seen the tour videos who were only going to go to Staples. That’s what I did. Bought tickets 2 weeks ago for Friday night too. Adam and company(sorry, I’m a fan) 2 nights in a row! Wow!

  • lucy

Though again, I wasn’t impressed with this guy’s decision to reference last years contest in his review of this year’s concert,

Your editor will insist that you have some kind of a hook that will connect with the readers of your paper. Talking about how last year went down, when the Utahns really wanted to see their boy Archie, is his hook. That’s all it is. And, of course, once you’ve used that hook, this year’s scenario, where the winner and runner-up have very different styles and you can gauge your and the audience’s reactions to them, just follows naturally from that. He probably made a little too much of it, but he *was* writing the thing in 25 minutes. Plus, it probably wasn’t as clear as Utahns apparently thought that Archie should have beaten Cookie last year, either! The article was written to formula, and that’s how you do articles when you’re required to churn them out quickly, as he obviously was. Not a lot of time for original thought in there.

  • TwigLA

That Utah reviewer sounds like he didn’t even see or listen to Kris’ performance. How can anyone in their right mind give any credence to his opinion? It seemed to me his assignment (or personal agenda) was only to cover Megan and Adam.

I had hoped to see Megan get more love so close to home. And no comments on Allison?

A note to future news reporters/entertainment reviewers: you’re covering a concert which is a series of mini-concerts. The TV show is over as is the competition. Leave the comparisons out of it.

(Disclaimer: that last paragraph is directed to those who are getting paid to write reviews.)

  • Truthiness

Utah Glamberts and Kristallites don’t seem to be coming through with the vids :(
    I’m disappointed.

I know! Even through the crappy cellcast, Kris and Adam especially, sounded great! and the snippets of videos out there seem to bear that out, but no full songs. What the heck, Utah? Sure they had snippets of YouTubes out almost immediately, but since then…nothing. Utah = video Fail thus far.

Oh and mj, I’m sorry, didn’t see your note and referenced a previous review and it was too late to edit. I apologize.

Still wish Kris would do Blackbird at some point. sigh. So pretty and I could totally see him doing a great job with it.

  • 77amy77

I totally agree. Personally the best concerts I’ve ever been to are those where people sat and listened to the music – there are many HUGE artists who don’t have people screaming all the way through their shows. And it’s not because the fans don’t appreciate them, but because their style doesn’t demand loud audiences. OTOH if you’re at a rock concert, you expect screaming fans.

There will always be people who expect all concerts to be loud, and will never appreciate the more intimate sets. It would just be nice if reviewers could look at each performer separately, rather than treating this as a competition. And if they could understand the value of different types of sets, rather than going in with a preconceived notion that there is only one right way to stage a concert.

Kris and Adam sounded great last night from what I’ve seen so far – I’m dying for some better YT videos.

Let’s stick to talking about last night’s show and thie tour itself. These vague side topics that are being introduced are only going to take the thread off track again. I don’t have the time to mod this thread all day.

The SL Bowie Medley is slight more restrained the previous versions — and I think better. The end of Fame and the “like a flower” high note in Let’s Dance aren’t quite as excessive. I really think that this would be even better if Adam pulled back on these big high notes even farther.

It really is different strokes..etc. :)

  • Tess

I think that it would be more appropriate to call the after AI concert online reports ARTICLES rather than REVIEWS. The Deseret News really only listed the contestants and the songs they sung and ended with a human interest portion about Megan. The Tribune basically just reported that the concert took place, and added some info about last year’s concert to remind people why anyone would be going to this concert.

These writers aren’t interested in the singers and really, neither are the people reading the articles. All anyone is doing is saying that the concerts happened and “here is the fan reaction”. And, of course, in a perceived conservative, anti everything State like Utah it would be a bit of “news” to inform the readership that a “gay” entertainer was warmly welcomed and liked.

There are going to be many more of the concerts that are only half-sold out. This is not the concert of the year for most music fans…far from it. This is an AI tradition that lets TV viewers finally get to meet their “Idols” in person…probably for the last time. And, for most of the Idols, this concert is a way for them to get “tour” experience and hopefully to reach an industry insider that may be able to help them in the future. If they can make an impact during the tour maybe they can impress the “right” people.

On another point the Idols chose the songs they are singing and the mood they want to get across to the audience. If the fans stand and yell because the song is fun and boisterous, that is probably what the idol was hoping for. If the audience falls back into their seat and becomes relaxed and mellow during a song that is what the Idol probably intended. And it isn’t the standing and yelling that makes one idol more impressive than another….it is that spark of emotion that becomes electric during a set and is positively tangible and that can be felt that signifies if the audience is getting it.

Love, love, love this version. It is a little more restrained but the vocals are so good I actually understood the words better and it was from a great view. You can tell he is holding back a little for the venue but I still get a sense of his sexual energy and so did the crowd obviously. Sexaaay!

  • Ellie2

I prefer OTT Adam, myself. I hope he doesn’t tone things down in KC, which is a more liberal place than you might imagine. I may have to send him a tweet and encourage him to let his freak flag fly!

    EvanJane,

Thank you so much for your lovely post. You’ve said so beautifully what I’ve been thinking and feeling in regards to not only this tour, but every concert I’ve been to and the various types of music I love.

I’m not quoting it here since it’s quite long. Excellant!

On the one video of Kris’ posted from the Salt Lake City show, the audience response to his intro was so deafening that I had to turn my sound down to the lowest level. I was very pleased that the audience quieted to listen to him. I want to hear too!!!! They do the same for Adam’s Mad World.

  • BestAI

You can’t tell from the vids here who gets the biggest reception. You have to be in the audience to know that. It is pretty obvious that when a contestant is introduced who gets a polite reception and who gets a huge response. As many have posted (myself included), as you go from 10 – 1, the response gets louder and louder, with the exception of Adam and Kris. At every concert, the people who were there always said Adam got the loudest response during/after the introduction. If it was just about the music, then Allison would have gotten a louder response than Kris. I thought she may have in SJ, but then again I was sitting around many Allison fans. Another gauge of popularity is when they start showing the faces of the contestants on the screens. Even when Adam’s eyes (Ford commercial) were shown, people screamed.

  • kimeber

Sounds like Adam came out again after the SLC show….UGGHHHH… WHY did he have to skip out on Sacramento?…MOMENT LOST!! *tears*

I just heard from a friend who was at last night’s concert. She confirmed it was a small crowd – they closed off the upper tier where she was and she had to move to the floor. Acoustics were horrible. She said she thought Megan did well. She certainly has improved since the show. My friend – who has always liked Megan – said she was most disappointed by Megan’s new look on the tour. She much preferred her natural “quirky” look. My friend had to get back to work but promised to tell me more later. She said she couldn’t keep her eyes off of Adam’s belt buckle (LOL). I’ve got to find out more about that. I have been trying to get her to send you a recap MJ, but I’m sure it would be after work before she could do it.

  • Tess

    Acoustics were horrible.

This surprises me about the E center. Other than the top tier where you get feed back, usually the rest of the E center has great sound….and considering the youtubes I have been listening to I would say it sounds pretty damn fine to me. The reason most concerts have been moved from the downtown arena to the E Center is that it was built and designed with better acoustics as one of the priorities. But, I wasn’t there….so maybe it has deteriorated since I was last there.

  • Squirrely

He’s saving it all for LA ;p

  • BestAI

Adam said he regrets not being able to talk to his fans, but he needs to give everyone an autograph who’re out there so he has to move along as quickly as he can.

  • Mary102

Interesting to hear that Adam toned it down for the SLC show – I can imagine him as a performer, considering the level of detail and attention to the audience he typically exhibits, actually consciously deciding to tone it down if he thinks the audience will respond to it better that way.

I have to say, though, that I also hope he doesn’t try to play it safe in my venue :-) I want all out!

  • Ellie2

She said she couldn’t keep her eyes off of Adam’s belt buckle (LOL).

I did notice he was sporting a different belt buckle last night. And once again, I prove how sad my life is with each comment I make on here.

I’ve not had a chance to read/see/listen to much yet from this show (and frankly, really hope that I won’t continue to feel the need to monitor all of them, what’s wrong with me?!?). But I’ll just say this -

    - I’ve seen enough to make me feel that Adam’s act plays well in a relatively conservative area of the country, and that makes me hopeful (and confirms my suspiciouns) that he’ll have wide enough appeal down the road and, hopefully, in his real career.

    - And my faith in the music loving public to distinguish between opinions about music and opinions about “lifestyle” is also upheld. Way to go, Utah!

Utahns are the nicest people in the world. Gosh, everyone knows that!

The E-Center crowd greeted Adam and all the others with the respect and the enthusiasm they deserve…as one would have expected them to do.

That whole East-West, North-South cultural battle vis-a-vis Idol (and Adam) is way, way overblown. IMO. Everyone is too in love with the MUSIC to care.

In any event, I don’t think Adam would ever agree that he “toned it down” last night…at least not intentionally. Adam is always true to himself; the crowd was willing. And so it’s inconceivable to me that he knowingly did anything of the sort.

“”Utah is arguably the most conservative state in the US (battling it out with Wyoming). ”

Yes, it is – people are very nice there but it is its own world, I lived in St George and one year the town made us celebrate the 4th of July on the 3rd because the 4th landed on a Sunday, New Years eve was celebrated on the 30th because the 31st was a Sunday, one liquor store in town closed on Sundays. The Chilis Bar and Grill were told to remove the word bar – so – with that said I am pleasantly surprised at the nice reception that they gave Adam. I wish Kris was given better because he is better than that though.

The two newswomen from two different studios seemed smitten with Adam when asking the field reporters about him. So it appears the women in the audience were too. Didn’t Adam say sexy is universal?

  • richie10

Adam is one smart cookie and I think he did tone it down for Utah. I expect full out mike humping and crotch grabbing in LA and San Diego and I can’t wait. As far as the reviews go, I believe they will continue to be pretty much the same throughout the summer. Simon is a smart cookie too and he knew what they had with Adam and that’s why he was so disappointed when he didn’t win. Simon was the one who said Carrie would sell more records that any other idol had and I don’t think he will be wrong about Adam either. My glittery alien from planet fierce better give me all his love in Duluth in two weeks!!!

My favorite quote o’ the day!! I had to bite my cheek not to LOL at work. TWO MORE DAYS!! If our Baby/Woman tally remains consistent, I’m due for a ‘WOMAN” in Ontario. That arena is brand-freakin’ new (six months or so), so the acoustics better be off-the-hook.

If I didn’t have to cross freeway hell to get to Staples tomorrow, I’d probably do it, but I’m SO GOING to SD on Saturday too. Checked tickets via MJ’s partners this morning. There is a section A, row 17 (lucky number!) for just a little over $100, but they’re still only being sold in pairs ‘“ BOO!. Still hoping something awesome opens up for a single day-of-show.

Looked at the available videos from SLC and I am not sure if it can be called that Adam is toning it down.

Feels like he is a painter who has to draw the same scene and would like to experiment on the different shades of blues, yellow to best create a transforming experience for the various spectators.

This time I noticed he expressed more in his facials instead of his body. I also noticed some changes in the nuances of the way he sang each songs specially the Bowie Medley and WLL . I like it when an artist continue to explore . He knows he has a following and his performances will be viewed over and over again and I think this is a treat for us . Something different every time.

It’s like when we listen to Adam’s song or view his performance ‘“ we are allowing our imagination to explore our inner self without so much of an utterance. An inner transformation is created, something new is formed within us.
The imagination is the most mysterious aspect of our self, and this is the artist’s vehicle to transport us to the place which is our very own together with the song.

And it is beautiful that through these songs and performance Adam is able to allow us to open our senses and sensibilities further . It’s great to encounter an artist who will challenge us this way and will continue to challenge each time he performs.

When Paris Hilton shows up at a premiere, people go crazy cheering for her, and we all know what a great talent she is.

Adam is of course really talented. But how loud the audience is doesn’t prove he’s better than Kris or anybody else, just how “popular” he is. Popularity can be here today and gone tomorrow.

I’m not even sure it proves he’s more popular. It may just be that some of his fans are louder cheerers.

And the reception Kris gets sounds huge to me. Any performer would be thrilled with it.

Nobody said Adam is not popular. I was responding to people implying Kris isn’t popular. Or not as popular as Adam. He won American Idol, he’s popular.

The video of Heartless mj just linked to proves Kris is getting plenty of fan love. That’s all.

Also, that’s an amazing performance! The best he’s done it on tour so far, I think. Thanks, mj.

I’m glad that Adam received positive reviews so far and would be greatly surprised if he gets a negative one ‘“ unless it comes from a biased reviewer. He’s both an incredible performer as well as an excellent singer. I’m annoyed when people say that he received good reviews just because he is more showy. His stage presence alone can’t impress audiences and reviewers. It’s also his wonderful voice and singing techniques that worth big applause and wild cheering from the crowd. Remember during AI when he just sat still and sang Tracks of my tears and Mad world, each performance was claimed by the judges and most audiences as the best performance of the night. I also think that Kris is an excellent singer too. He just doesn’t have the whole package needed for live concert as Adam does.
