Oh boy. I dig Kris big time, but that Killers cover? Just no. All These Things is a huge, HOOOGE fave of mine and started my love affair with Killers music, so I wanted to love Kris for picking it. But the song doesn’t suit him musically at all and because it doesn’t suit him, it comes off as a pale immitation of the original.

Agreed. My take on the Killers song is – it’s WAY better than NoBo but then the standard is pretty low, because just about anything up to and including Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (and I bet Kris could do a killer cover of that ) would be better than NoBo. But his vibe does not strike me as the right one for the Killers, and since he doesn’t mix it up as much as, say, the Heartless cover, it doesn’t completely work. But it’s still way better than NoBo.

Adam, otoh, works very well for both the Bowie Medley and Starlight – I think both are the perfect style for him.

This is one reason why I very rarely get up the nerve to actually go up and meet celebrities for those autograph events – I just feel way too guilty about pestering them, taking up their time, bugging them for trivial stuff, especially in the context of the AI tour, which is so grueling and draining. I never ever want to be one of those crazy fans who gets in his face and acts crazy. I’d rather just leave him alone and enjoy what he gave me during the concert, than become like that.

I kind of know what you mean. Love Muse and Adam’s cover is just No. For someone who isn’t Killers die hard fan, I loved Kris’ cover.

Reminded me that something about Kris and an electric guitar never felt right on the show as opposed to Kris and the piano or acoustic guitar. *is sad* The Killers’ lovely cover of Dire Strait’s Romeo and Juliet would work so much better for Kris if he had his heart set on paying tribute to The Killers.

Adam’s Bowie medley, conversely, fits him to a T. I was dying to hear him cover Life On Mars on AI and figured he’d kill it, but gah the way his voice just slithers around those lyrics…. I want to hear him sing the whole song really badly now. Almost makes me want to shell out money for a concert of cover tunes. Almost. Hopefully he’ll include the cover when he does solo gigs eventually.

People are drawing conclusions based on their assumptions, not on fact. The headache could just have easily been caused by stress, fatigue, dehydration, or indeed the epileptic seizure causing lights and graphics from his set.

…Or the excrutiatingly excessive screaming/shrieking/squealing of the fans.

I was starting to wonder the same thing. :ponder_tb: I’ve even looked on Rickey’s site and he doesn’t seem to have the cellcast up and ready yet either.

I have to say Adam’s version of Mad World on the CD is so boring. It is long and boring. Without watching him, it is hard to listen to him, in my opinion.

YMMV, but I disagree. His studio version of Mad World was one of his best of the season, perhaps only second to Feeling Good (I think many other fans feel that way, if I remember correctly). The recording is ethereal and captivating to me. It gives me chills when he dips low to sing, “Hide my head, I’m gonna drown my sorrow.” But, not everyone is going to love every recording, and that’s fine.

Seeing Adam live is great, but listening to him is just as–and in some ways more–magical (not to sound too corny about it). As much as fans are entertained and thrilled by his showmanship and charisma as a live performer, what makes him so special is his voice–his tone, his phrasing, his gift for using his voice like an instrument to interpret the emotions of songs in subtle yet powerful ways.
Feeling Good, especially, blows my mind every time I hear it, and I also completely love the recordings of Mad World, Ring of Fire, IICHY, Whole Lotta Love, A Change is Gonna Come, and most of the others, actually.

There are quite a few performers who are particularly inventive in their staging, in their live performances. But for any true musical artist, it’s the voice that makes them special and that captivates their audience.

FWIW, I also have most of Allison’s recordings–her voice is fantastic even though she, like Adam, is a particularly dynamic live performer–and several of Kris’s recordings (Falling Slowly in particular is so beautiful). IMO Adam and Allison have the most strikingly beautiful and unusual voices of the bunch, but I really like Kris’s voice as well–it has this very nice honeyed tone with, when appropriate to the song, a rough edge.
