Cleveland used to be a very dangerous place – major race riots in the 60s, areas were still burned out in the Hough when I was in law school in the late 70s, lots of distress in the rust belt economy. Huge mansions on Euclid Avenue turned into flophouses. All it really had going for it was the Cleveland Symphony and the Cleveland Clinic. It has really made a comeback.

girlygirl – “mistake by the lake”, “the north coast” – lots of nicknames for Cleveland. The Cuyahoga River that goes through the city literally caught on fire in the 70′s, it was THAT polluted. Lots of jokes on national news, etc.
Cleveland is a very interesting place – closely related to the Northeast (it used to be part of Connecticut, the Western Reserve), but on the cusp of the midwest – and a rustbelt industrial economy. Sort of everything. Lots of identity crisis. I really loved going to school there. amazing architecture from the glory days. Beautiful streetcar suburbs: Shaker Heights, Cleveland Heights. But as a poor student, I lived in the thick of things.

Hoping a Public Service Announcement won’t be off topic. Since these are likely to be more sinkholes in Tweetville throughout concert time. And this will help you be warned about potential tweet links being even less interesting than far away concert stages with white blobs on them.

Twitter is a race with Facebook and every other thing out there to be relevant. And win the social network game. Twitter wants to add to the “discovery” aspect they say. As in people using the Timeline to search stuff. Like we use it to search the idols names to follow the concert as it unfolds. And since the map link is an app they have, hey are actually trying to increase the times it occurs. Since they have it, they are declaring it cool.

And it’s been a big week in the race for social networking. With MySpace buying iLike, and Facebook deciding whether to dump the iLike app. So Twitter decided that more maps was showing they were cool too. Yes, it’s ridiculous. And irritating.

The green earplugs! I think it was hwc that said they were really great earplugs. I need some for when I vacation with my mom, and figured I’d need some at the concert. So I went on Amazon, fairly late at night, found the brand, and ordered some.

Oh, and of no probable interest to anyone but me: I did finally manage to watch some good video and am really happy with the improv Adam’s doing. It meets my threshhold, anyway. And I was happy with Kris’ little lead guitar break, too. And chagrined that I almost gated him, but I think I cleared it up enough on the tail end of the Pitt thread this afternoon.

I do remember reading Adam say that the jacket was very heavy, but what I don’t remember if he was referring to a jacket he wore on the finale or the one that he was being designed for the concert, I kinda remember that it was for the concert, but I’m not 100% sure.

I’ve wondered this too. In fact, he looks big on stage-not fat. Like he is 6’5″ and a football player. Of course, I’ve also thought Kris has looked chubby or bottom heavy on stage. Who knows?

Adam believes in recycling and reinventing his outfits. He’ll probably detach the tails and make it part of his usual wardrobe. Seriously if he was to be the king of techno/rock/fusion or whatever, that would be a great artifact – like MJ’s countless jackets and Madonna’s cone bra.

Talking about pants. Interesting observation – the latest RS photos show Adam’s legs are very skinny. But do you notice his outfit on stage – his legs look quite large. I have been wondering due to the sweat issue, if Adam is actually wearing another pair of pants underneath the leather pants? Well’ ¦.????

Leather is quite bulky anyway, and it seems Adam’s pants have at least lining, or he could wear something underneath.

Those pants are “puffy pants” and the knees are padded, and the cut out parts are a part of the pant with the mesh sewn in and are bought that way. I believe I read a post last week or so Re the pants by our own Q-3 and she had seen a web site for the pants.

I thought you would of got that mistake by now.He was giving allison a tongue lashing about showing to much cleavage when he was tweeting that tweet.Easy mistake.

Re the concert program – someone scanned it and it is available online to view – not sure about purchase but if you just want to see it, it is a pretty good scan. I’ll try to find the link.

I have the tour book and I was just looking at it. A friend at work bought a copy for me at the Dallas concert. She also bought one of the Adam photos. We texted during the concert while I posted with you guys and listened to Rickey’s cellcast.

I did not go to Dallas concert because family emergency caused me to deliver my concert monies to a family cause.

So, last year — and the seven previous years — at this time, what six words did I think would never, not ever, be uttered by me in response to the equally unlikely to occur question: “Would you like to buy an iTunes download of a tour performance by the winner at an American Idol concert?”

“Yes, thanks, I did.”

Today. My live concert Kris Konversion had me searching for Kris videos with great audio. (something webster troves for as well.) And there it is. Bright Lights at iTunes. And the end guitar solo is all Kris, and very clear.

However, even with the multi camera cut-aways, they must have shot a lot of close-ups to playback at dress rehearsal the next day. Because Kris has his eyes open. Doesn’t inhale the microphone. Doesn’t just get totally in the singing, like they do show at guitar solo. And doesn’t bounce all over the piano bench. Still it’s great fun.

ETA: Tightest pants?

I’ve wondered this too. In fact, he looks big on stage-not fat. Like he is 6′ ²5′ ³ and a football player. Of course, I’ve also thought Kris has looked chubby or bottom heavy on stage. Who knows?

In those RS pics, Kris’s legs looked bigger than Adam’s. It seems like tall guys always look even taller in person, and shorter guys look shorter in person. So many people are surprised how tall Adam looks in person and how short Kris looks in person.

Re: big legs…. I think there’s two things going on – those recent RS photos are taken with a wide-angle lens, so the part which is closest to the lens (the head/shoulders) looks larger than the legs – wide angle lenses exaggerate perspective, making the further objects (legs) look smaller.

On the concert vids, I think the light reflecting off the shiny pants causes a modeling effect, which adds visual volume and makes the legs look rounder than they would appear under flat lighting.

Now, Kris, on the other hand…. he just has a girlish figure! (From the waist down, anyway).

Hey girlygirl, I was one of those Arizona zombies, and we were too busy getting Adam’s autograph and a glimpse of his smile, his emo hair, his glittery eyes AND we were the first to see him in shorts and flipflops. But I must admit I was too busy doing that to tweet much. Guess others were as well?

You’re right, he did. I think someone asked him if he’d tried it on and he said he did. For some reason 20 pounds rings a bell, but I think he was exaggerating.

I was there too and this is about right. I remember them starting to sign closer to 10:50 (someone said it was almost an hour since the show ended, and no one had come out yet). They definitely ended right before 12am (when the buses left).

Adam signed for just about everyone out there (there was a LOOOONNNGGG line – technically split in two sections). Allison skipped my section completely (sad face), as did Lil. Megan was the only girl that liked us apparently All the guys got our section though, though all but Adam are pretty quick about it. He noticeably takes his time, while Kris really sped through.

Sorry for the long report, but it is still fresh in my mind, and it was a lot of fun meeting everyone (especially Adam – I even tweeted a thank you to him.

At the show my sister asked me if Kris had on girl jeans. I told her I think they are just skinny leg jeans they look curvy on everyone.

Just to add – he didn’t really talk to our section, though he was very friendly, and, as I said before, took his time. But with earplugs in, I can’t imagine he could hear people very well

Hi all! I’ve been following the tour threads for a while now, and I figured now was the time to chime in… just got home from the concert.

A few quick observations: caught the tail end of Kris and Danny outside before the show. Kris really is ‘compact’ (is that a manlier version of ‘petite’?) When I got there, both were being called back in, and both seemed to make an effort to get to as many fans as possible on the way back in.

Also, barely 70 degrees in Cleveland today, yet I was sweaty and gross by the end of the show… go figure :surprised_wp:.

Don’t have much to say that hasn’t been said before… all were better than on the show, and I enjoyed the concert completely. I think the ‘pom pom’ that was mentioned for Allison was really a boa – unless I missed something on the other side of the stage. She picked it up, played with it, then chucked it back out to the crowd. It was thrown back on stage, but they left it there.

It was a great crowd – showed everybody love. The screamers were out in full force, especially for Adam, but I couldn’t figure out if that was sign of greater popularity, or just a characteristic of the fanbase.

Ok – back to catching up with the thread!

CindyM, I like that photo of Adam and Allison. I’ve noticed many times how he adjusts his dancing/posture etc so that he isn’t towering over her all the time. I’ve always thought that was nice.

ITA! This is that sense of entitlement that Adam Tweeted about a few weeks back.

Yeah, JosieX, I’ve noticed that in the tour videos as well as when they did the duet on the show. He made sure for all the times they were singing next to each other to have bent knees, so that they were almost at eye level with each other. He really knows how to be a generous duet partner. I think it’s all the training.

Ok, caught up. Regarding the sound, I have to say I was a little worried after some of the reports I’ve heard. There were a few moments where the band overpowered the vocals, and I did wonder on Starlight if there were sound issues (the so-called ‘helium voice’) or if it was just Adam’s falsetto/upper register. But other than that, I was really pleased with the sound. My seats were at about mid-court – 3rd section from the stage, lower level, about half-way up. Good view of the stage, good sound. Only problem was that I couldn’t find my camera to bring it, so I had to rely on my mom’s lower quality/dying battery camera. I don’t have much hope for good results.

Yeah, I have noticed that too. Kris’ shirts do not look flannel at all. And yes, the skinny jeans look a lot different on someone without defined muscles as well.

And Squirrely, at no time did I say that Kris was a body builder. He obviously works out, but that is a long way from a body builder.

The only thing I saw thrown on stage was the glittery blue/purple boa that made 2 appearances. The first ‘fling’ whizzed right past Allison’s head and landed in a heap – looked like a pompom until she picked it up, swung it around, and threw it back. The second trip up landed more on the front of the stage and just stayed there til it was removed after slow ride. I didn’t see anything during the Bowie Medley.

I have to stop watching the news and just concentrate on the concert thread. I’ve now convinced myself I have the swine flu.

Yeah I think if you got an autograph from any of these guys after one of the first shows of the tour, you might actually have something resembling their normal signature. But by now, they are all basically doing first intial scribble, last initial scribble, trying to sign as much stuff as quickly as possible…

I am happy to give ‘Noop a break. He almost always signs both before and after the shows. If he didn’t come out tonight, I’ll bet there is a good reason. Maybe he was talking to label peeps.

Most of the other idols sign before the show, so there is less for them to sign after the show. I’ll bet that Adam will be signing for the rest of the tour. I think he has now realized how important that is to the fans.

seriously, though, I can’t believe any of them actually enjoy the barricade signings. Yeah, maybe for the first few shows it was a charge. But with oh so very many weirdos and rude fans and noise it’s gotta be something they all grit their teeth and do…so by that measure I expect them all to be in the fan hating category if dreading the extreme displays of fannishness = fan hating…which to me it’s not. but, whatever.

Oh, I would hate the barricades. And I wouldn’t be shy about it, either. Perhaps I would try to be diplomatic, but, I actually like that Anoop skips it. He’s kind of like, fearless in that way. After watching this I somehow feel sweaty and smelly by association.

Trying to catch up on the night’s events. We’ve got emo, woman, a boa, and … what?? No -gate?? I guess no one wanted to make me feel like I missed anything this evening. Or maybe nothing can top smelly-gate. Sounds like a quiet night.

I didn’t know that the last show of the tour was a bit different from the rest — though I did expect it to be emotional for the Idols. (And maybe some bloggers. LOL.) Maybe we’ll see Kris in Adam’s jacket yet, if they switch up clothing.

Considering Michael’s issues the other night, I’d say it’s more like ‘hail, no!’ 

OMG I just got home from my Matt weekend. I went to both the Pittsburgh Show (I was the cellcerter…sorry for my crazy screams for Matt) and the Cleveland show.

In Pittsburgh I had second row center seats and wow were they close! So amazing!

Matt was incredible! For me he is just in a different league than everyone else. He looks like he has been performing in large venues for years. His banter and interaction with the audience was so professional and effortless. I loved how he was talking while playing the piano. He was the only one to do this. His voice is just stellar. Such a rich timber with this huskiness and soulfulness…so sexy! He has so much charisma and man can that man move his body! He definitely needs to be signed. He is the total package!

I’m not going to review everyone extensively as I am very tired.

Michael – I was surprised by Michael. I thought he sounded great and he tried so hard to get the audience excited. He really doesn’t have star quality to him but I enjoyed him.

Megan – Such a beautiful girl but not a great performer. I found her voice to be annoyning and kind of grating…sorry! So wasn’t loving anger.

Scott- Scott definitely sound better than he did during the show but it was all kind of ho-hum. I enjoyed his second song.

Lil – The person I was with really loved Lil (of course after Matt). Lil is also very beautiful and has a great body…LOL! She was probably the first one who had some stage presence. Her voice was not amazing but she sang very well.

Anoop – Anoop was another one who surprised me. He has a very beautiful tone to his voice when singing ballads. I enjoyed Anoop. I think he does need to work on his stage presence and performance but I like his voice a lot.

Matt- Wow he blew me away but LOL I already gushed about him enough!

I absolutely loved Tell Her About It and Beggin. Matt really shined during these group numbers. He has that extra special something that the others don’t have…charisma, passion, and rhythm! He really is a dynamic performer. Again I was impressed with Anoop’s vocals.

Allison – Allison what to say about Allison. I tried really hard to enjoy her but it just wasn’t happening. She screamed during most of her set and I really couldn’t understand what she was singing. But really I think the sound system was her downfall. For some reason AI thinks louder equals better. They turn up the sound system way to loud during the second half. The first half sound is much better.

Danny – Danny suffered the same problem as Allison. He sounded shrieky and was screaming. He also seems to be losing his voice and struggled with some notes. I did love What Hurts the Most.

Adam – Oh man I am going to be hated now. Adam just didn’t do anything for me. I don’t know if it’s the sound system but his voice sounds like he sucked on some helium before singing. Especially during the Muse song. I just won’t ever get Adam. He tries too hard to be sexy and he is way too over the top. He exaggerates everything. This works on Broadway but IMO not during a concert. Sorry Adam fans I wasn’t won over. I did like Mad World.

Kris – Kris was better than I thought he would be but kind of underwhelming. He seems to really love music and is an adequate musician. His vocals however are very limited. I did love Bright Lights. Overall I enjoyed Kris.

Based on the screaming/screeching going on in the arena, I’m actually shocked. The potential for screaming was one of the main reason I steered clear of the chaos – except for making my mom walk the long way around to our cars just show I could show her the madness. Given how sweaty and gross I felt, I don’t think I had the hour-ish wait in me…no regrets for skipping it. I never know what to do with autographs anyways.

I’m a little sad that, according to the interview, they are heading out to Columbus tonight and spending the off day there. I would think that if nothing else, a little Monday morning field trip to the Rock Hall would be of interest to them. Cleveland doesn’t have many obvious ‘Oh, you gotta go to Cleveland to see….’ type of tourist attractions, but we do have the Rock Hall. Current exhibits are for Springsteen and the 40th anniversary of Woodstock – probably would have been fun for them.

I really don’t think it’s simply Adam doesn’t like screaming…Pete Townshend of The Who attributes being partially deaf to the prolonged noise and decibel level of recording and concerts. I think Adam takes precautions eg. ear plugs because he’s smart! Not pissy!

Close up on the color in his hair which right now is mostly green. He didn’t have laryngitis, but his voice was getting worn out and his doctor and vocal coach told him to stop after-show activities and he’s sorry he didn’t do some m&gs, women should use their fingers when applying makeup.

Hi kt_cle….b4 the Cleveland concert, my friend and I spent the day at Rock & Roll Museum thinking that an Idol or 2 would come on by and nothing. Anyway, the Michael Jackson items were also interesting there too.

Anyway the concert was great altho I just can’t seem to get into the groove with Megan….with that said, it looked that her tatoo had glittery stuff on it. Did anyone else notice that as well.

The concert over-all was great…first AI concert for me. Surprised that Kris didn’t sing that song that Kara had wrote for him….I thought it was a single for him?

I know! I missed his presh face. He looks cute here and he said he has green in his hair because it’s the blue fading. I knew I recognized that colour, or should I say, lack thereof.

And man those questions were old. The Queen thing is totally old. Like that the interviewer was saying he was going to go as Adam for halloweeen. He seemed to kind of do some fanboying. Awww. And Adam gave some really great compliments to Kris and said that he thought Kris and Katy were like the most adorable couple ever. Which he’s said that before, but it’s always dawwww to hear.

Oh and sorry clearone, don’t read this part, he says he likes the stuff being thrown on stage, he thinks it’s funny, just not AT him, please.

And yeah, no laryngitis, just advised by doctor and vocal coach not to talk after the shows to protect his voice. And so he could do a good job.

Which again, I’m all for his doing whatever he needs to so that his voice is stronger for the shows. He started it after AC and he needed it after AC, ouch. His voice has seemed much stronger lately, so it was worth it.

That was a pretty useless interview until the end, when he explained that he’s never had laryngitis and was just getting a little worn out by his obviously very vocally demanding set. He’s got the right priorities! And it was sweet of him to apologize to any fans whose feelings may have been hurt by him skipping a few post-show signings.

Yeah, norcal, I hear you. I think my definition of “normal” has definitely been affected by Adam. There is also a young woman who tattoed his face onto her arm, i think? That made me feel saner too. At least, I am not that crazy.

From watching the barricades vid, it looked like Adam was wearing purple earplugs tonight and he said thank you a lot and nodded and smiled. I’m sure the sound of the shoving throngs were muffled. I’m glad he’s feeling better.
