i haven’t paid much attention to videos that weren’t of adam, kris or allison, but i figured MJ’s awesome footage would be a good time to revisit the bottom half of the order. i gotta say im really impressed! especially with matt and anoop. i liked them on the show, but i would like to co-sign the requests for them to get record deals. those videos of them were great!

and you could tell anoop was a little misty eyed at the end of AOMM. i’m glad he got a nice dose of homecoming love!

  • flicker

Excellent vids, MJ, thanks so much.

Matt is awesome, as usual. He has so much passion, it just explodes, even in a youtube vid. And Anoop’s song was very, very sweet.

Canon should pay you for advertising their camera – great video and audio as well.

  • readon

I thought that Scott’s a thousand miles was very moving. Somehow listening to his voice, but not looking at him made this better. Don’t hate.

  • flicker

I liked Scotty’s song, too, readon. It was moving.

  • Squirrely

I barely watched videos outside of Adam’s so watching these guys is a treat, but I gotta say I’m not liking Matt’s pants.

ETA: The quality of these is great. TY for taking them MJ

  • Cindyy

Woo! Thank you for videos of other than Adam!
    Loved Matt and Anoop!(:

  • Renina

Holly Macaroni Matt is freaking AWESOME!! This is just what I needed to get me started this morning *Thanks Mj*. My gawd, and He’s super hott…LOL Scratch that, this probably isn’t what I needed this early in the morning…

And again, WHOA BILLY!!! we actually finally have good video of one of Michael’s performances :clap_tb:

*Anoop was too cute. Glad he felt some hometown love :wub_tb:*

  • jga94

Thanks so much for posting these…especially the one from Anoop. These are probably the best-quality videos I’ve seen from the concerts.Where did MJ say what Canon camera she used?

  • haininh

    Anoooooooooooooop!!!!!!!!!!!

  • readon

Thanks for posting these. It was great to see and hear the bottom six. Anoop has a great voice, but stage presence is amateurish. Matt was good. As with the performances on the show, Lil is just missing something. She is still karaoke. Sarver, well, rock country may just fit his style and his image. Good song choice for Megan. She wasn’t that bad.

  • Squirrely

Good song choice for Megan. She wasn’t that bad.

I liked her video, I’m looking forward to seeing her live.

  • hicksaholic

Great to see how comfortable Matt is performing now. I loved him on the show but he is much better now. Good things will happen for him.

  • flicker

Good things will happen for him

I glanced at this and thought it said “good thighs”………

    Obviously, I loooooooooove Matt’s pants! :biggrin_wp:

  • GracieCPS

Anoop’s voice sounded a little strained here, I hope he gets enough rest for his voice. He still sounded great tho! :wub_tb:

OMGAWD!!! Are you Me??? I swear I have never seen a pair of pants fit a guy like that…GAWDD@MN!!! LOL I love Matt… :wub_tb:

  • Southern Breeze

I must admit that I had to make myself sit through Danny’s videos. I think he has a nice voice but performing is just not his thing. He tries really hard though.

    Readon,

Thanks for posting these. It was great to see and hear the bottom six. Anoop has a great voice, but stage presence is amateurish. Matt was good. As with the performances on the show, Lil is just missing something. She is still karaoke. Sarver, well, rock country may just fit his style and his image. Good song choice for Megan. I pretty much agree across the board. Lil was better with “No One” here compared to when I saw her in Ontario. She was doing it almost upbeat then and I wasn’t getting any real passion from her. This seems a little more soulful, but something is still missing. I enjoyed Anoop live, but I seriously had a difficult time sitting through this video.

I loved Matt live and he’s also great here. I don’t remember that vest (of course I didn’t have MJ’s epic seats) I like it though. He does kill it on that song. Is Matty going with the pseudo-faux hawk now too? (Is it possible for something to be pseudo-faux?)

Again, thanks MJ!! The best videos I have seen to date.

  • Southern Breeze

Couple of other thoughts….Matt and Anoop are good performers. I think Anoop has a nice voice and Matt is really good too. I felt very entertained by Matt. He and Anoop both have good stage presence. Here’s my one snarky observation….Megan’s arm just freaks me out. She looks like she has a bad disease especially with those glittery things.

  • maracaibo

Matt rocks! Enough said. Love his voice.
Loved this performance.. He is just so amazing in that piano.
I hope he gets signed soon. He deserves it so much.

Anoop is just ok for me. Scott and lil are meh. And Megan is pretty.

If you don’t mind sharing, what type of camera did you use to record these?

    It’s a Canon S5 IS

I watched these all again. It is really unbelievable video, especially given the circumstances.

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

I love Matt. I agree with poster who said if Matt had waited a couple of years to try out, so he had more confidence, he could have gone further or even won. He’s terrific.

ETA= The reviewer who said he was more like Billy Joel then Justin Timberlake is correct. I think he could be quite successful going down that path.

  • TwigLA

Love the vids, MJ. Thank you. They all sound and look great.

I actually like Megan’s version on this and her hand gestures ‘telling’ the song. She makes a great torch singer.

Loved Matt and he has wonderful stage presence. I enjoyed Michael, but he seemed to get winded towards the end. Good job, though.

Anoop, beautiful voice and believable presentation. I loved the pause before the end and acknoweledgement of the crowd with his eyes.

Scott is good. I like his piano playing more than his singing. I can’t get past that he reminds me of Alan Thicke and a sitcom theme song artist.

Lil is beautiful. She seems to be improving each concert. I still feel a disconnect with her. I may be a bit biased on this song. I loved Felicia Barton singing it.

Oh, and I personally HATE the pianos for blocking your (and our) view. Though I do love them being played and played well.

  • liasdpride

Wow I am speechless! I can’t believe that Matt is so new at performing in large venues. Watching him it seems like he has been performing and playing that piano for decades. IMO he has what Adam has…Matt is a natural born entertainer. You either have this or you don’t. There are some great singers that have come out of American Idol but they lack the ability to entertain/perform. Well Matt has both qualities IMO. He is an amazing vocalist/musician and entertainer.

He blew me away in this video. Every video of Matt I see I think ok this is it he can’t get any better than this but somehow he manages to every night he performs. He lights up that stage with his charisma, amazing vocals, musicianship, and hot damn the way he moves that body on stage. Like Randy said I don’t care what he is wearing that was the bomb!

Thanks for the amazing video of Matt.

  • liasdpride

The reviewer who said he was more like Billy Joel then Justin Timberlake is correct. I think he could be quite successful going down that path.

I agree with this. I never understood the JT comparison. The first time I saw Matt was during Hollywood week when he was performing Georgia. I immediately thought who in the hell is this guy and where did he come from? He reminded me so much of Billy Joel and I am a huge Billy Joel fan! It’s the soulfulness in his voice and the way he moves his body on the piano. I have seen Billy Joel 3 times live and he is an amazing performer. Seriously the best concerts I have ever been to and I believe that Matt in a few years time will approach Billy Joel’s level of talent and become the new pianoman! He may not sell 150 million plus CD’s or sell out baseball stadiums but I know Matt will be very successful! I am so excited that I get to experience Matt’s career from the beginning unlike I was with Billy Joel.

Again thanks for the amazing video.

  • GracieCPS

I enjoyed Anoop live, but I seriously had a difficult time sitting through this video.

I understand that different people have different opinions. For me, I did not have any problem sitting through his video. In fact, I flove it! :wub_tb:

  • kathrynTX

Wow Matt! Love you! Loved you on the show, love you more now! WOOHOO! I haven’t watched any videos really from this season’s tour. I don’t know why, I really liked Adam, Matt and Kris. INNYWHO, I watched these from MJ though and now I guess I’ll be watching more. I’m so glad to see Matt ENJOYING this and not being nervous. He was great here! I’ve seen him a few times after the show ended, like on Ellen and such. But this performance blew me away. Now I gots to see more! I’d love to get an album from him that features him on that rockin’ piano. I play piano, but NOTHING like this. I just don’t got the natural talent and musicality this man has. In spades. Whew.

So I saw Billy Joel in concert back in the late 70′s. It was a fun event with my friends, but I did not get anything like Matt’s charisma and musicality from Joel onstage. I bought a couple Joel albums but lost interest quickly. I hope Matt Giraud will grab me and hold my interest for a long time!

Anoop has a lovely voice. But I think there are lots of guys out there who do and can sing like this. I know, they didn’t all get on Idol. But there are lots of recording artists with nice, smooth voices who can sing like this. He needs to stand out somehow…how? I dunno. I did like this performance a lot though. He could certainly make a record. I just don’t know if it would stand out in some way, other than there is only one Anoop.

  • lakers24

IMO, Anoop’s voice is very unique! It’s the most gorgeous voice that I’ve heard in all 8 seasons of AI :wub_tb: And while there may be others with smooth vocals, there is NO ONE with Anoop’s beautiful tone. The tone of his voice is quite special. Also, I love Matt and think he’s an awesome performer, but for me, his voice is just too complicated (if that makes sense). I don’t know, I guess I like simple things, which is why I appreciate the simplicity of Anoop’s voice so much. He doesn’t need to add anything fancy to a song to make it sound breathtaking. (of course, JMO)

  • Danica_K

    QFT!

He has a special quality and timbre to his voice that I’ve never heard before, and I LOVE it. There are lots of guys out there who sing well, yes, but Anoop has that special something there.

Different strokes and YMMV etc, but for me he absolutely shines on the stage.

    Matt nailed his song too!

Thanks so much for these videos MJ! The quality is fantastic!

  • Tess

There is so much being said about Adam being a “throw back” to a past generation that he will struggle in the “modern world” that it makes me giggle when I see Matt and Anoop perform. Don’t get me wrong, I think both men have great voices and I adore both of them…but, IMHO, they are the ones that are total throw backs to another age and another time.

I still feel that Anoop is the consumate “lead” for a group or a “boy band”. He doesn’t seem to have the depth to stir me as a solo artist but I can see him being wonderful as a lead singer with others surrounding him. I can just see him commanding a stage or being the highlight of a song when he is playing off of and joining in with others. I also think it fits his personality much better. I guess I just enjoyed his pre-idol stuff so much with the clef-hangers that I just can’t visualize him without them.

As for Matt…I am transported to the weekends I spent in Las Vegas showrooms. His voice is nothing special for me and I probably would have a difficult time picking it out of a line-up…but the guy has super super skills with his stage schtick. I think he would be an absolute hit in those 1000 seat venues when he is augmenting his work with those audience requests thrown out at him. Current..not so much. I just don’t see him appealing to the current young music buying demographic. He is absolutely a Billey Joel or a tamer Stevie Wonder or a more vanilla Elton John. But, I do think with his apparent great ear and musicality, I bet that he will emerge as a pretty good song writer (music not lyrics).

For both of them…I do hope much success…even though I don’t think either one have that great radio vibe.

  • Renina

“He has a special quality and timbre to his voice that I’ve never heard before, and I LOVE it. There are lots of guys out there who sing well, yes, but Anoop has that special something there.”

IA. Anoop reminds me alot of the geekier version of Ne-yo (in a good way). His whole vibe is cool, I will be one in line to buy his CD when it comes out : )

  • maracaibo

I think Matt can be totally current if he does The Fray/1R/Gavin de Graw type of music which he is planning to do.
Have you heard his recorded studio versions? His voice is like perfect for radio.
    Go take a listen

Can’t wait to see get im signed. I am positive it will happen now with all the buzz abut him on tour.

  • liasdpride

That’s interesting Tess. I find Matt’s voice extremely unique. He has this soulful gritty voice that sends chills down my spine and I think with the right material Matt definitely has a radio voice. Adam is technically the best singer but I’d rather hear emotion and passion in my singers. Also I really don’t think Adam has that great of a radio voice either. He is way too Broadway. I’m sure however that 19Evil will make sure they get Adam on the radio. I don’t see him on rock radio however probably top 40. As far as Anoop is concerned in my opinion his voice is pleasant but a dime a dozen.

None of these Idols will come out with music like they sang on the show. They will be singing original music and not covers. Really it is all just going to come down to material and how good it is. Matt is very current sounding. All you need to do is listen to his itune recordings to hear that. IMO his itune recordings sound the most current out of all the idols this season. His You Found Me is amazing and very current as is So Small.

Oh Matt writes great lyrics as well.

  • Lulu2

    Oh, wow, excellent quality video!

  • abbysee

MJ, these are awesome videos. Thanks so much!

I love Anoop’s voice, and truthfully I would love to know where these guys are that sound like him are. In the studio maybe that result sounds like him live, but I’ve heard alot of these current guys live and they have nothing on Anoop. Matt’s performance skills may be a little better, but his voice still lacks just a bit for me. Still he’s vastly improved since the show. I am proud of Lil, she’s definitely upped her game, and she was on the mark here. Sarver is a journeyman, I think he could have a nice comfortable country career. His voice is solid, his presence on stage is fine, if Josh Gracin can make it, Sarver should as well. Scott was the biggest revelation to me. I didn’t think that he had a strong enough voice on the show, and his relationship to pitch was at the break up stage, here, he actually sounds strong, robust, and his transitions were almost immaculate, his runs, rifftastic, who knew. I think that he could easily find his niche in AC radio for years to come. His take on 1000 Miles was very, very pretty. Good on you Scott. As for Megan. I want to like her, I love that song so very much, it was one of my favorites since I first heard it, and while her quirky voice is a good fit for the song, she just doesn’t have a very good voice, and at times it’s painful to hear her swallow her words. However, she is totally babelicious, and that counts for alot in the industry. Quirky, cute, equals possibilities.

  • alison8701

Exactly. Even Anoop himself says that one of his strengths is his tone. I think it’s very unique and so does he. To me, it’s the reason mellifluous is a word. It comes from the latin meaning to flow like honey. His voice is really sweet, clear, and no frills. That’s one of my problems with Matt. He can’t just ever let a song be. He does like a million riffs and runs and sometimes, it’s unpleasant. His voice kind of flows like nails. Adam has a sweet voice when he does stuff like tracks of my tears, but to me, it sounds false. and the tone isn’t as pleasant as Anoop’s is.

I like simple undeniably good voices as well. I don’t think anyone would listen to AOMM and say it’s not beautiful or sung well. It may not be their preference, but you can’t say it aint real sweet. Plus c’mon, he’s got a million dollar smile.

that being said: gomg. So close. So beautiful. So touching. His little smiles in there.. :wub_tb: no stage presence… psh. what’s he supposed to do during this song? drop it like it’s hot?

  • alison8701

You can hear tour taking its toll on Matty G’s voice as well. I really like him. This Hard to Handle wasn’t as good as I expected. But I had really high expectations. The first time I heard it (over a cellcast even) it was phenomenal. And his last “YEAHHHHHHHH”-not pretty.

anyway. More importantly. Matt has, to use urban vernacular, a badonkadonk. Then the faux-hawk shaven head.. just kind of gives way to a bowling pin figure. And they don’t write songs about people with bowling-pin figures. I think he’s cute though. but I don’t like his outfit.

  • Renina

Both Matt and Anoop are great and deserve to be signed. (In fact I think they are both close to being signed). There is no comparing the two because they are not the same. I personally am a fan of both (though I love Matt’s voice, style, and swagger more than Anoop) I think they are both great.

  • alison8701

I was listening to Michael’s song and thinking “Wow, I’m actually enjoying this more than Megan, Lil, Scott, Adam’s starlight, and all of Danny’s.” But then like, a minute and a half in, he gets winded. Dude, seriously? It’s his first song. He needs to sing while running on a treadmill or something to boost his stamina. Plus, why did he tuck in his shirt. Just looks like a grocery bag filled with jello.

and he also def fumbled on the lyrics in there.

Megan is just not very good, is she? She shouldn’t have opted out of being choreographed. And lil. I actually couldn’t even get through that. And I made it through Dannys performances. :sick_ee:

  • BestAI

Didn’t Kris say his album will sound like what he did on AI?

I think the reason Matt didn’t shine on the AI show, is because he is more an entertainer/performer, instead of just standing there singing. His singing on AI was up and down, sometimes good, sometimes bad. He sure can entertain, and it is evidenced by his reviews. BTW, has he always looked that chunky?

I think Sarver has a decent voice, but not much of a range, thus, he has to be careful in his song choices. However, on a good day, Sarver could not sing better than Adam on a bad day. Same with Megan, she sounds good within a certain range, but terrible when the song choices are too challlenging for her.

  • liasdpride

Didn’t Kris say his album will sound like what he did on AI?

I forgot about Kris. He definitely is current sounding as well.

“He sure can entertain, and it is evidenced by his reviews. BTW, has he always looked that chunky?”

LOL Matt is not chunky…it’s just the video. I saw him up close and he is neither chunky nor has a bowling pin figure. He is very hot!

  • shadow-rider

Great vids mj. I’m so jealous. I had good seats at my concert but I would have loved great seats like you. That was my only regret at my concert. The upside is we get to feel like we are right there with ya.

I’m so glad to see Megan has been improving as the tour progresses. Mine was like the 4th one in and she wasn’t sounded great. I may not have loved the performance but I was able to sit through it and enjoy it. She sounded good at the end too. I hope she keeps improving especially her stage presence.

Poor Lil. I noticed she stumbled as she was walking out. I hope she didn’t twist her ankle or something. Whenever I see any of the girls wearing those high heels I think ok when are they going to fall.

I don’t think anyone would listen to AOMM and say it’s not beautiful or sung well.

It’s definitely beautifully sung. Anoop’s tone is lovely–I always thought he sounded very pretty on the show, but I didn’t really appreciate how soulful his voice was until listening to some of his Clef Hangers videos when I suppose he was more relaxed than he ever was on the show.

I really enjoy Matt’s tone a well–it’s not exactly beautiful, but it’s gritty and interesting.

However, tone-wise, I prefer Adam and Allison for sheer beauty and fascination. What you prefer in voices is completely a matter of personal taste, of course, so it’s not like I’m right and you’re wrong, but I find the tone of their voices to be astonishingly beautiful and not quite like any voices I’ve heard before, especially Adam’s. Being able to listen to them sing the same songs over and over again and still be surprised every time is something I’ve experienced with only a handful of other singers in my life. Kris’s tone is less unusual, but it’s still what I like most after these two.

  • alison8701

That’s what Anoop wore in Ontario, CA. I like it way better than the white pants.

Me too. When he wears the white pants, the light is reflected back and it gives off a glow, making his legs look like a mass of white.

Tone is definitely a matter of different strokes for different boats. Cause Adam’s tone grates on me. And I know a lot of people find it cringe-worthy, but then some people go crazy over it. Whattaya gonna do.

Whenever I listen to Danny, I have the intense urge to clear my throat. I just cough and clear it over and over. That happened toward the end of Matt’s song and a bit of Allison. I can’t stand that feeling.

  • maracaibo

I think Matt is a phenomenal singer. GREAT soulful voice that at the same time can sound very current.
    His vocals are amazing.
I think he will be very successful down the road. Can’t wait to see him live. And can’t wait to buy his records because I am sure he will be the next signed.

Kind of a random comment, but Anoop is the only one that can put me to sleep, and I mean that in a good way! I listen to his ballads every night before I go to bed, and I sleep like a baby. His voice is just so soothing and relaxing.

Same! Just put it on repeat and I’m good. And I cannot listen to music or any type of noise while trying to sleep, except for his music lol. I mean, I don’t do it every night, but sometimes I have trouble sleeping.. so if I’m still awake when my parent’s alarm goes off, I can listen to his music :]

  • Tess

Music to sleep by….a backhand compliment if I ever heard one! :wink1_tb:

  • liasdpride

I have to admit I really have only watched video from Matt and a couple of Adam’s so this is the first time that I have watched Lil, Anoop, Michael, Megan, and Scott.

Michael- He seems like such a sweetheart and his voice is nice. I thought he took good command of the stage but he really doesn’t have much charisma.

Megan- Beautiful girl but I’m sorry she is not a good vocalist. I could only bring myself to watch 20 seconds of her video.

Scott- Scott reminds me of Air Supply. He has a wispy light voice. It wasn’t terrible but at the same time nothing to write home about either.

Lil- Like Megan she is a beautiful girl. She is a better vocalist than Megan but for some reason I always find her voice flat and out of tune.

Anoop- He sings ballads well but that’s about it. Like I said earlier he has a pleasant voice but he is very bland. While watching the video I glanced at the time I had left and was surprised that only a minute and a half went by. It felt like I had been watching the video for much longer than that. I don’t see Anoop becoming the next huge R&B singer.

  • alison8701

Music to sleep by’ ¦.a backhand compliment if I ever heard one!

Yeah totally! Me, a huge anoop fan, was giving him a backhand compliment. Nice deductive work!

  • lakers24

Liasdpride, I understand Anoop’s not your thing, but he doesn’t just sing ballads. He’s very versatile and can sing anything. You obviously haven’t seen any of his pre-idol material. He’s awesome at rapping too! He is so talented and has so much potential!

  • Suzanne

thanks for putting these up. It’s interesting to see how the beginning of the show works.

Michael was better than I thought he’d be. If he’d really pushed the country sound on the show, maybe he would have done better.

Megan–what a bummer to come out to that much silence. I feel for her; I don’t think she has music in her future. I hope she’s banking some money and the time away from her son is worth it.

Scott–I like that song, but the original and the David Archuleta version are both more entertaining.

Anoop–Like on the show. No surprise there but not wow’ed either.

Matt–now–there’s a wow. Maybe if he’d made it to rock and roll week we would have seen more of that!

ETA–Lil. I forgot about her! Not too much of an impression. This is a far better version of that song–

These were fantastic videos. What a treat to see them. I was surprised at how well Scott did. I enjoyed his performance.

I will have to give kudos to Megan. For someone who started out never performing in front of anyone and never holding a microphone, she has come a long, long way.

My favorite part of Matt’s performance is his piano playing. He can really make those keys move.

I love Anoop’s voice and if he puts out a CD, I’ll be first in line. His voice is the only one, besides Kris, that I would put out money to buy their CD.

Anoop’s voice is so smoooooooooth. It’s so gorgeous. I want an album full of ballads from him, even though he seems to like the uptempo songs more. And Matt’s so much better than he was on the show– I thought he was a waste of the wild card and save (that should’ve been Allison darnit) but now I’m reconciled. Sarver has a nice voice too, but no stage presence.

I don’t think I’ve ever posted anything about Anoop on this blog. But I am very excited to see him in 6 days!!! I know Matt has gotten a lot of fan support, at least here anyway, so I just want to say, although I’m an Adam nut, I’m looking forward to Anoop sweeping me off my feet with his ballads. Plus he is super cute, looks a little like my first husband (who is Persian) and you gotta love the beautiful brown eyes. Okay, so now I’m back to loving my theatrical, adorable Adam. Who has beautiful blue eyes. LOL!!!

August 8th, Newark NJ!!!! Can’t wait.

Oh also. My ex hubbie’s parents totally doted on their three kids. It’s actually very sweet and I love the support that Anoop’s family gives to him. I chuckle.. go to college, okay, now you can be a rock star!!!

the thing i love most about matt is his riffs.

  • Renina

The things I love most about Matt are his Voice (that souldful, edgy, unique tone) his riffs and effortless falsetto, his obvious love and passion for his music, his unrivaled (at least of the ones on this tour) piano playing skills, his style and swagger, his sense of humor, his charm, those dimples and freckles (too cute) and even his curly faux hawk is growing on me.

As you May be able to tell, I just love me some Matty G :wub_tb:

Great videos. Nice camera work & the sound wasn’t muffled considering how close you were. I’m glad security didn’t mind that you were recording. Sometimes they can be real brutes enforcing the “no video” rule.

All of these vids are fantastic MJ! I knew you wouldn’t disappoint. You never do. Thank you for taking the time to post them. :)

Renina, I like Matt alot. I really, really, do. He wowed me with his set…a definate showman! But I had to laugh at the “effortless falsetto” comment because I think Matt’s falsetto is anything but effortless. It’s one of the things I think he struggles.

In fact, in Greensboro, he was singing the last song in his set and he went up into the falsetto and he actually did it well (my sister and I had previously seen two shows). My sister and I both, at the same time, turned and looked at each other with shocked expressions, and said at the same time…”he did good that time.” :lol_wp:

    Thanks, MJ.

This is the first time I’ve sat and watched a few seconds of each performer from this year’s tour.

I don’t understand why Matt Giraud didn’t bring this to the AI stage….holy cow does he rock! WHY MATT DID YOU HIDE this side of you?
