In a totally non-biased way, I think that Anoop and Adam photograph best whilst singing. Megan does alright too, but some of the idols look kind of weird. It’s kind of hard to judge because a few of the idols were hindered by pianos at various points in time, so we don’t get the full picture… Anoop also seems to be the only one who SMILES! you know..

To be fair though, Anoop isn’t really up and about, you know. He stays.. fairly still. Because I would give him the edge even over Adam, but it’s not really fair considering Adam mooooves. And Allison just looks ridiculous, but again, Anoop is stationary. and oh so handsome.

I used to go to figure skating events and take pictures, I knew other people who did too. We used to make copies and mail them to the skaters as gifts. At least, to our faves.

I’m pretty sure she has said, in the past, she gets them the day of the show, sometimes at the venue. It’s usually a single ticket, so that helps.

WOW, MJ, great job with the photos as well as the videos! Now I see why you only got certain videos – because you were shooting stills during the other performances. I’m just glad you didn’t make the mistake I did, which was to shoot stills WHILE shooting videos, which causes a 1-second or so gap (as well as an annoying shutter sound) in the video. One or the other, peeps, not both at the same time!

For anyone who’s wondering about MJ’s camera, I believe she said in a previous thread that she was using the Canon Powershot SX5is. For those wanting to buy one for an upcoming show, the latest version of that is the SX10is, which is what I used, and it/they are excellent choices, no matter where you’re sitting! The ’5′ model has a 12x zoom, which is more than enough when sitting in the front row, but the ’10′ model has an amazing 20x zoom, so mine appear to be very close even though I was only in the 11th row (and working around &$!% Tall Guy, who still has a contract out on his life!).

I normally use D-SLRs, not point & shoots, so one thing that bugged me was the shutter delay inherent in the latter, so you really have to anticipate your prime moment and shoot just before it happens. Also, be sure to RTFM beforehand (cannot say that enough, trust me!) and think about the Image Stabilization and Face Detection features.

MJ, as fantastic as your photos are, can I give you a tip for the next show? Turn the camera sideways and shoot vertically in order to fill the frame and capture more performer and less empty background space. Who couldn’t use MORE Adam in the frame??!!?

Sorry if this is long-winded, MJ, just wanna make sure peeps optimize their shooting, since most of us poor slobs will only get one… er…. shot at it.

MJ – you should seriously be like the official videographer and photographer of the Idol s8 tour. You take great pictures of EVERYONE. You videotaped at least one song from each Idol and not just of your “favorite”.

They should hire you, seriously. Marketing, PR, everything. And pay you the $20 million they won’t give Paula. LOL. :grin1_ee:

It’s not like I’m any kind of fashionista or anything, but I can’t help noticing the amount of detail in the clothing you were able to capture. Would especially like to know what Adam’s pants are made of. Seems too flexible to be leather, so what else would have that sheen to it that’s a fabric? (A rhetorical question, just inquiring minds wanna know….).

Also, be sure to RTFM beforehand (cannot say that enough, trust me!)

Anthrogeek, what does RTFM mean? I’m suddenly awash with anxiety that I might not do it beforehand since I don’t know what it means. My mind wants to fill in the F with a certain word, and I’m sure that’s not right.

I really should have known since I used to W(rite)TFM for a living.

I think Adam’s pants are made of stretch leather. It’s in the market and its a combination of real leather very thin about .9mm bonded over lycra and cotton mix fabric. Since what you see is the top grain leather ( mostly lambskin ) , it is really nice to the touch and it clings. I guess that is why his, uhhumm, are captivatingly hugged. Very expensive fabric though should be about $28.50 per square feet with yield of about 65%. Beguiling pair of pants indeed.

Wow American Idol’s stylist has good taste. Or would that be Adam.

I figured since no concert tonite I could get it done. I just couldn’t get motivated. So, I thought just one quick look over your blog. And there it was. Perfect. A slide show of Adam showing on my lap top playing over and over again. Switched on the old i-pod to All Lambert aqnd before I knew it I was done with the tedious part of my job. Thanks so much. really light hair … there was even an up-close-and-way-too-personal photo posted on the blog once upon a time that proved this … yep, oh, the things we choose to remember …

Looking through the pictures again, just a superficial fashion note: I have to say that Adam’s leather jacket really is amazing. I haven’t been able to see it this clearly until MJ’s great photos, and I can now understand why Adam was so excited about it. All the intricate piecing and stud/ring/spike designs are fabulous, and the workmanship looks impeccable. Kudos to the folks at Skingraft — they really know their craft.

And Allison’s jacket has some similarities to Adam’s — I wonder if she got hers from Skingraft, too.

About Allison’s clothes: there are lots of long ties or whatever you’d call them and she’s such a whirling dirvish that they’re whipping and floating all around her … seems like she’s in constant motion and those ties are, too. That’s all I noticed.

mj, there isn’t much I can add to the accolades above! but they are all true. Can’t help comparing them to the professional photos from the last (?) concert that made Kris look like Barry Manilow – sorry, can’t remember which concert they all start to run together! That photographer presumably was paid for his pix and you only have our love for compensation, hope it seems like an almost fair trade! And everyone who said the opening Alison photo needs to be on her album is totally correct. Incredible. They all are.
Album for the idols? Absolutely. (If you can get it to them? Hard to know what they receive, actually.)
Re Adam photos (yes, it so often goes there, doesn’t it?), I was particularly struck by the contrast between the photos in which he looks so fierce, and others in which there is an amazing and appealing vulnerability. You caught both so well.

:clap_tb: Ahahaha, and MJ really had to take a pic of Adam raising his arm showing his armpit. So, for those still wondering if he is hairless or not, get a magnifying glass and scrutinize it.
