REVIEWS:

Phillip Phillips towers over ‘American Idol’ pack in St. Louis

Sorry, but I don’t think you can really compare this concert to the St. Louis date from Season 10.  For S10 that was their 19th concert date on the tour.  To do a more equal comparison in my mind, you would have to compare it to the 4th date on the tour which was the Sacremento CA concert.  On the blog last year there were 3 seperate posts for this concert and in total there were over 165 comments.

Everyone has their own opinion on which season or contestant is their favorite.  My favorite was Scotty and S10 because I felt more of a connection  with the contestants and really liked their music.  I believe a lot of people felt this way about it and about Scotty in particular.  S11 tour is still early on and we will just have to wait and see how the popularity shakes out for the tour, for Phillip and the other contestants.

Commenting on Pia comments being the only comments so far, and saying things don’t look good is way different than saying S11 is a resounding failure.
The tour just started, so there is no way to even know if that will be true.

My comments were more about why Pia was tweeting and was in St. Louis and why Haley will be at auditions in Chicago today instead of both out promoting their own music and careers.
That led to the lack of other tweeters conversation.

I didn’t mean to make others so defensive of their favs. I really have no other tours but last year and this year to compare since I had stopped watching Idol for a while before last year.

I wish them all luck. The music business is getting tougher and tougher in which to make a living.

IMO S5 was the best. S5, S7 & S10 were the Top 3 seasons, for me anyway, S11 & S8 fall just under them, again jmo.

I’ve been waiting for the concert sales thread b/c I’m curious what the interest level is for this year’s Idol Live tour. The % of seats filled at each venue would tell me more about the popularity of this season’s contestants than anything else.

Commenting on Pia comments being the only comments so far, and saying things don’t look good is way different than saying S11 is a resounding failure. The tour just started, so there is no way to even know if that will be true.

The ironic thing about that is Pia was in large part to why some tour threads did have chatter last year, people were complaining often about how she was being crammed down our throats.

I didn’t mean to make others so defensive of their favs. I really have no other tours but last year and this year to compare since I had stopped watching Idol for a while before last year.

I’ve been following the tours from season 1, even before MJ’s existed.  Season 10 having 191 posts is a drop in the bucket to what, say, season 5 got.  Or the 500-1000 posts season 8 would get even later in the tour.  Usually controversy or major fanwars cause the biggest threads. You arent going to see hundreds and hundreds of posts where people just say over and over how great so and so is. Right now the same old thing is happening every night. And like every year some nights will be more slow than others.

    eta:

    IMO S5 was the best.

ITA. And if you did a comparison to the Pollstar numbers with the other seasons it completely blew everyone out of the water.

So many tweets this morning on ” who has vids ?? ” …from St Louis ….
I echo what has been mentioned here… Thanks Pia Toscano !! We enjoyed reading your tweets about the show !! And nice pics too.
Every single one was appreciated and ” re-tweeted “. Wish you could ” cover ” the whole Tour :)))

I hear that a lot about S5. Didn’t see that one either.
Of all the seasons I missed, that’s the one I wished I had watched.

I think this season had fanwars during the season, often of Jess vs. Hollie variety, but I also think that seemed to die down when the season ended for the most part.  I haven’t seen any crazy post season fanwars, which IMO is a good thing.  The fanwars are exhausting.

I have seen plenty of pics online from the barricades last night and people freaking out about meeting their idols, so it sounds like they got love.  I haven’t seen vids yet to get a better idea about the size of the crowd.  Couldn’t tell much from Pia’s pictures.  One thing I’ll say about this season is the love seems to be spread out.  Phillip and Colton might be getting the most cheers, but they all seem to have their fans who are showing up and doing the crazy fan thing.  Unlike some seasons where there are one or two people I always feel bad for at the barricades because they don’t get much fan love. I think in some ways this group has more people that are just a fan of the whole group as opposed to just obsessed with one or two idols.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of the S11 idols make/post vids.  Each season seems to have their thing.  This group is big on ustreams, but those are a bigger time commitment and not something I see them doing on show nights.  I’m not even sure if any have done them since the tour started, though Joshua might have.

S7 was by far my favorite, but I’ll fully admit I enjoy this S11 tour set better.

It is hard not to compare two seasons that are back to back which is what is most recent in everyone’s memory.  That said, I like to think that overall when American Idol comes across as successful (whether it be the tours, national tv performances, debuts, sales of albums/singles, etc.) it makes the franchise look good and generally makes everyone’s favorite look good as coming from American Idol.  So I wish them all luck.

If it wasn’t for her tonight, there would be no comments here. Seriously, no tweeters available in St. Louis? How small is this turn out anyway?

Can I make something super clear? There was no blog last night because I didn’t have TIME to search for tweeters during the concert.

It is not unusual for me to come up to show time with NO tweeters, even after asking for volunteers. This has been true ever since I began live blogging the show in Season 8.

It’s been particularly true of the smaller cities.  I have always had an easier time finding people in the big east and west coast cities.

You can’t come to the conclusion that the S11 tour is a flop just because I had trouble finding tweeters. PRIOR TO SHOW TIME.

I had just as difficult a time finding tweeters during every Idol tour I’ve covered.

Now, can we get back to discussing LAST NIGHT’S show? Thank you.

ETA: Also, can we please stick to talking about the tour? Talking about THE BLOG and how people behave on The blog is off topic

Alas, I didn’t follow Season 7 tour although that season is one of my 2 favs. I’m sure I would have loved Jason’s vids. I hope someone does a video of  funny moments for this tour. One of the best part of following Season 9 tour were the vids, twitter parties (Yoda and some other fantasy character I forgot the name) and stories of the pranks that they played on each other.
