American Idol’s Katelyn Epperly Releases “Julianne” Music Video

Remember Katelyn Epperly? She was shockingly eliminated from the American Idol season 9 semi-final round. Her buzzy performances of “Oh Darling” and “The Scientist” seemed to guarantee her a  spot in the finales. But, it wasn’t meant to be, as she was eliminated at the Top 16 along with Alex Lambert, Lily Scott and Todrick Hall. It was the Thursday Night Massacre, if you will.

Fast forward three years later, and Katelyn has released the official video for her self-penned, original song, “Julianne.” The bluesy tune tells the story of an unfortunate young woman who makes some bad decisions. Katelyn performs and acts in the sexy new production. Check it out below.

Not digging this at all. She was much better on the show.

Weird, I was randomly thinking about her earlier because of her sob story over her parents getting divorced lol.

Nice job for an original song and own production but musically the song just doesn’t do anything for me. I’m missing a recognizable hook or at least a melody or something that would make this song… well a song. My impression upon first listen was that the music here was just the backdrop for the video while I am pretty sure that it should be the other way around.

This girl has no blues voices, I’m sorry. The song is quite good, strong vocalist with personality would be able to kill her.
She was the only one of whom I was sorry at then elimination, but only on the basis of “The Scientist”. She promised something more, could surprise on, but I still do not have any of the girls above Crystal, although I could see Katelyn the second. I do not know.

Oh, Season 9–the season that it could have been!

Although, who knows, perhaps the gloom and doom at the judges’ table would have prevailed regardless.

    Well. Um. She’s pretty.

She needs a little “grit” in her voice to pull off this song. I agree, the right female artist could do this song justice. Her voice is too sweet and not strong enough. She isn’t believable in this performance.

I listened to this with my daughter.  We actually enjoyed the song yet felt Katelyn’s voice wasn’t right for it.  There wasn’t enough grit or enough textures to do it justice.  Her voice isn’t bad at all; she’s just not convincing singing the blues.  Now Allison Iraheta or Juliet Simms (Voice) would do a great job singing “Julianne.”

On the positive, Katelyn has presence, I’ll give her that.

OH, what season 9 could have been! (although I’m not feeling this song at all)

not liking it. Blues need to be sung from the heart and the soul. She is too young and lacking any life experience to sing blues….

She’s def better than average, but for me Alex Lambert was the best hope of that whole season; I saw more than one producer in the recording industry say that his voice was not only the best of that season but maybe of any season as far as recording potential. And for now his management has NOT allowed him to release any of the dozens, its been said, of records that were produced(during and after his time on IICD) – not even on soundcloud!! VERY fishy situation that needs to be investigated.
