I’ll be posting several American Idol Top 31 contestants previews every day in the run up to the American Idol XIII premiere on January 15.

If you have been following the many American Idol XIII video previews, then you will recognize Ethan. He’s the curly haired, sweet-faced,  guitar playing tenor who covered Keith Urban’s “You’ll Think of Me” in a recent audition preview released by Idol.  Harry’s reaction to Ethan’s audition is surprise that his singing voice sounds exactly like his speaking voice.  Maybe it’s just another way to say “you sure are unusually high-pitched! And sorta nasal.”

There’s more music at the pop country singer’s official website, including a self released CD.  From the websites’s bio page:

Ethan Harris, who hails from Central New York, is a singer-songwriter who loves many genres of music, especially Country, Pop and Gospel. His music career started taking shape when Grammy nominated Track engineer, Bob Acquaviva cast Ethan in a Theatrical Performance of the concept album, “The Book.”

Throughout 2011, Ethan collaborated with Acquaviva writing songs and recording demos at Wayne Manor Studios in Central New York.  After months of hard work and dedication to his music, Ethan released his self-titled debut album on May 23, 2012.

Ethan’s self-titled effort is available on Amazon, iTunes and CD Baby and on the website with song samples.  He opened in concert for Melinda Doolittle, and performed at BB King’s in Nashville during CMA Fest in 2013.   He’s no stranger to singing competitions.  He won an X Factor audition pass.

Along with being the first recipient of the Terry Doyle Music Scholarship award, he has also been a Semi-finalist in the Unsigned Only Music Competition, Vocal Performance category, an X-Factor competitor and WSRKfm Central New York Idol Champion.

Check out his Facebook and Twitter. Fun Fact: Ethan graduated from college with a degree in graphic arts.

Ethan’s You Tube channel features covers and original music.

A cover of “I Will Always Love You” is more Whitney than Dolly.

I think he is generic and explores too many genres. He tries to sound like the singers he covers it.

  • justmefornow

This dude is beyond lame. But that James Blunt is annoying as hell in the same kind of way so who knows, maybe this guy will do well and go far.
To me he sounds like a 14 year old girl.
    No thanks.

  • Sassycatz

What happens if his voice changes in the middle of the competition?

  • Kariann Hart

I kind of like him. Depending on his personality, I think there will be a lot of tweens and young girls that will like him. He sure has lot of professional experience. I doubt that we’ll see any nervousness from him.

  • dabney_c

This kid looks like an Osmond or a Partridge circa 1972. :-D

  • Not fit to print

He’s very cute and has a nice sound but my guess is he goes only so far.

  • mchcat

Reminds me of Hunter Hayes – same high pitched voice and slightly girly sound. Hunter is very popular.

  • Darko_5

It may sound mean but he sounds like a cartoon character singing to me. Not bad just sort of funny to my ears.I can’t seeing him going very far but who knows stranger things have happend.

  • Valarie

If he makes the finals, I will make use of the mute button.

  • Sicola789

He seems like the type that would go far on The Voice.

  • Sue tiedemann

Really don’t care for his singing all that much!

  • overthetop1

Well, he’s cute looking, and sings well, but I didn’t think that there was anything special about his voice or performance in that audition. If he goes far in the competition, then I don’t think I can keep watching American Idol. After Lazaro last year, I just have no tolerance for it.

  • ladymctech

Interesting cover tune choices…Dolly/Whitney and Stevie Nicks??? He’s OK. If the young girls like Harry “I Don’t Know How to Comb My Hair” Styles, they will probably think this guy is cute, too.

  • helo23

Oh, no no no. His voice is high pitched and almost James blunt-esque. I just can’t take him seriously lol And he reminds me of an Osmond brother and for that reason will probably be popular with housewives, grannys.
