American Idol XIII – The Judges Dish On Ellen Degeneres Show (VIDEO)

The American Idol judges panel, Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban plus host Ryan Seacrest, took a few minutes from their work in Salt Lake City, UT, auditioning hopefuls, to speak with Ellen Degeneres via satellite.

The talking point of the day how well the panel gets on. No really! They love each other! Snark aside, they really do seem to like each other, at least. Harry and Keith already have a comedy side show going on.

“I’m a huge fan of American Idol,” Harry told Ellen. “I was even at the first finale when Kelly Clarkson won. I was in the audience and to be sitting up here with Ryan, who I really think is the best, and Jennifer, who is beyond belief. The more I get to know her the more I love and respect her. And. I’m sorry you are?”

“And, Keith, he’s a nice man…,” Harry added.

OK. This could get good.

Ryan, stepped up to the plate in the name of Public Relations:

“I’m excited that we’ve got a group that just sat together and had lunch, and laughed out loud and told stories and talked about their lives and really get along,” said host, Ryan Seacrest.

“I think that people who have watched this show for a long time will enjoy that part of the show when they come back. This is a show that the whole family will be able to watch. That’s what we’re excited about.”

In other words: That nasty rapper and her potty mouth are gone. No more infighting. Come back ya’ll. The coast is clear…

I smiled and chuckled a few times, I’m excited for the panel, I think they will be entertaining.

I’m also happy there are some talented 15, 16, and 17 year olds, I missed the younger ones in Season 12(Devin was the youngest and he was 18). I don’t think there is such thing as “too young” if they have the talent.

You know, despite the humour of Harry, I can’t imagine this group dealing with the joke auditions. I just think this panel would be over that. So I hope the show really does reduce the joke auditions significantly. For their sake.

Loved this interview! Harry, Keith and Jennifer look like they will be a fun and interesting groups to watch!

As much as people hate “goosies” its much better than “hashtagpow”

    “And. I’m sorry you are?”

Man, cancel this shit already…. jumped the shark 3-4 yrs ago. #lame

OK, I’m really loving the interaction between Keith and Harry. So far, Jennifer isn’t being obnoxious or overbearing, which is fine as long as she continues that way.

When Harry put on the glasses and said “I feel interested, I feel more interested already (then, without missing a beat)… maybe I should put these on my wife!” lmao!

I think it will be a much better panel than last year. They have a nice rapport–the opposite of last yr. I’m not crazy about JLO’s judging and some of her business choices –but at least she’s pleasant and seems to enjoy being there.

I like the dry, sardonic humor that both Keith and Harry display – they seem to have a good meld here. There is subtext galore in that interview -Ellen had to ask JLo that same question about her ‘busy’ schedule – ‘as if’ no one else was doing a thing – SMH.

Not just the unsubtle subtext from Ryan about how well they get along (as opposed to the panel from hell last year?), but also real Subtext from Ellen – ‘I wish I had this panel’ – (Instead of the one she was on?). Now that the principals are all fired, I wonder if someone could ever ask Ellen who’s idea that really was? (Statute of Limitations?) She was a fish out of water on that show – but the people on the panel that year didn’t exactly make for good judging even without her. This panel, OTOH, has real possibilities, IMO.

This is a much more inviting panel than last year, had NIcki or Mariah been in Jlos spot they wouldve been better recieved

” That nasty rapper and her potty mouth are gone. No more infighting. Come back ya’ll. The coast is clear…”

LOL. I like the sounds of that, although Nicki really did entertain me. She was just on the wrong show. She maybe would’ve been a good fit on X Factor?

Really, really am looking forward to next season though. I feel like we got our show back. Just give us some good contestants!

Although I believe that the judges are getting on, their display of friendship feels contrived and I hope that it is not what will come across in the new season. I am bored of fake reality in reality TV.
