More from yesterday’s American Idol tour press day.

In this Rolling Stone article,   Anoop Desai reveals he’ll perform   Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative” on tour.   Kris Allen’s set will include à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Hey Jude,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Heartlessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“No Boundaries.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Adam Lambert will perform Muse (“Starlight”) and Bowie’s “Life on Mars”, “Fame” and “Let’s Dance.”

Megan Joy will sing Amy Winehouse’s “Tears Dry on their Own”, Matt Giraud will perform the crowd favorite, “Georgia on My Mind” and Danny Gokey won’t reveal a song choice, but we know that his set includes Rascal Flatt’s “My Wish”.

Other spoilers we already know:   Allison Iraheta will sing “Barracuda” and “Cry Baby” plus reprise her duet “Slow Ride” with Adam.   And, for the big pointy-pose finish the Top 10 will perform “Don’t Stop Believing” with Matt and Scott MacIntyre on dueling pianos.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“People want to see you do songs from the show, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nice to be able to throw in something that you want to do and really mold your time onstage,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ says Kris.   Adam Lambert promises a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“post-apocalyptic-rocked-out-space-disco-funkà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ look to his outfits.

The choreography should be interesting, the kids are learning steps from tour choreographer JaQuel Knight–she has Beyoncà ©Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Single Ladiesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ video on her list of credits.

After news of Michael Jackson’s death broke, E Online sat down with Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Here are a few quotes from the interview:

From Kris, “He was the most influential musical person that I had in my life.   On the artist side of things, everything that he did was just so right. Every album that he did, it hit you in a way that just made you feel good. It made you feel him and feel his music. He was a genius, a complete genius.”

From Adam, “No one else sounds like him. Furthermore, the visual stuff he brought to the table was so groundbreaking and edgy and ahead of its time, in a way. There wasn’t anyone else really going out there like that. He defied sexuality and race in a way that no one else has. He wasn’t openly masculine or feminine. He was kind of somewhere in the middle in this androgynous space and at some point he was like, ‘Black or white, it doesn’t matter.’ There were a lot of things he straddled the line of, and I think that was really cool.”

Didn’t Allison say she was doing Cry Baby? I remember in an interview she was giving clues (for Barracuda she said a song by someone she covered in the beginning of the show) and she said one that made her cry.

ETA: It was the Eye on Idol chat interview on that comcast site.

  • Qcloud9

YES!!! Anoop will perform My Prerogative on tour!! I was hoping he would!

  • taks

Here’s what I could find in terms of what has been revealed:

Kris – 5 songs, “Heartless”, “No Boundaries”, “Hey Jude”, one more song he couldn’t get cleared on Idol, one more song he did sing on Idol (I’d bet money on “Aint No Sunshine”). Won’t sing “Falling Slowly”

Adam – 5 songs, Bowie Medley (“Life On Mars”, “Fame”, “Let’s Dance”), “Mad World”, “Starlight”, “Slow Ride” (duet with Allison). Won’t sing “Ring Of Fire”

Danny – 4 songs, “My Wish” … I think I also read “What Hurts The Most” but I can’t find the source

Allison – 4 songs, “Barracuda”, “Cry Baby”, something by Pink, “Slow Ride” (duet with Adam)

Matt – 3 songs, “Georgia”, hinted at doing “You Found Me”

Anoop – 3 songs, “My Prerogative”

    Nothing on Lil/Scott

Megan – “Tears Dry On Their Own”

    Nothing on Sarver

MJ….and what stimulii have you been taking today? I can’t even begin to keep up with ya. Thanks for all the great threads….now back to our regularly scheduled performance.

Being an “adult” and having lived through all the shit that was Michael’s life for so long I would always wonder how Idol contestants could list him as one of their influences. Now, I’m finally getting it. After watching a ton of videos today, including ones where Michael was just 11, I can really see and hear what he did for the music industry. He really put the Pop into pop music, while still having tremendous, and oftentimes deep, lyrics. He also got other great musicians to work with him and that helped make his music very relevant then and still relevant today.

These kids were able to understand something I had a hard time wrapping my brain around….a person’s life doesn’t diminish their music. The music stands on its own.

  • Studio57

Has anyone taken a look at ITunes today? All 10 top albums are Michael Jackson’s, and 8 of the top 10 singles( BEP are the other two). I think he has 11 in the top 20. ( sorry if already posted)

And in other good news- MTV actually played videos today. It was nice not to see all the BS about his debt, his health, his allegations against him and just celebrate his music. My sister and her daughter, and my kids sat around and watched him all day until the videos started to repeat.

Looking forward to Mondays Idol repeat.

  • lostinidol

Very, very well said, Tess. I was a mother with young children when the molestation allegation first surfaced. I know the fear and outraged that produced in me and for a long time it was hard to see past that. But I too watched some videos today and they are so good. And then you remember that not only was Michael involved in the choreography but he wrote many of his songs as well. Nothing he did in his personal life can take away from his genuis and his musical contributions.

  • babybelle32

I can really see and hear what he did for the music industry. He really put the Pop into pop music, while still having tremendous, and oftentimes deep, lyrics.

I hope the three signed finalist from AI 8 can do the same thing. Kris for one has talked about how important lyrics are to him, and that he can’t feel cheesy lyrics. Hopefully, he can write and get songs that have meaning, but that will also appeal to popular culture. The same for Adam and Allison.

  • jack5791

I absolutely love that song for Anoop…I was really hoping he would sing it.

I wish Kris was able to sing one more song since he is kind of obligated to sing “No Boundaries” anyway. I would bet “Ain’t No Sunshine” is on his list of songs to sing. I really wanted “Falling Slowly.” It sucks because he said he won’t be singing it. :)

I would bet Megan’s other song is probably “Walking After Midnight.” Glad she chose Amy Winehouse, good choice!

  • taks

Michael’s lyrics were out of this world, especially when you compare them to ‘Pop’ music now, which is essentially synonymous with ‘Fluff’. It seems like a prerequisite to writing popular music is to make sure it’s not about anything too deep or emotionally invested.

I’ve been looping MJ’s albums now all day and it’s surreal how many absolutely great songs he had. Not a clunker in the bunch…

PS. Allison is on twitter! (allison4realzzz … it’s actually worse than Kris’ twitter account name!)

  • cjinsd

Hmm…longer sets for numbers 2-4 than last year. Only the Davids got more than 3 songs. Which means more from Gokey. : (

MJ, I think it’s spelled ‘prerogative’ not ‘perogative.

I’m actually very glad that Danny is getting a longer set. He and Adam were my top 2. If you are not a Danny fan, it is easy to forget that he was (is) a fan favorite. Most assumed he and Adam would be in the top 2 until it didn’t happen.

Anywho, I think (but I’m not 100%) that Danny said he would be doing PYT, also.

  • martha

Thanks for tour song info. I admit I am only going because of Adam despite the long drive, and my discomfort in crowds. This info on the songs got me excited ab.out the whole evening. Thanks

I was a Michael Jackson fangirl in the 80′s and 90′s. Although I haven’t followed his career in recent years I was heartbroken at the news of his death. I never doubted for a moment that he was one of the greatest musicians of all time. His music has inspired so many singers and dancers. I decided not to pay attention to all the controversy surrounding his death but to celebrate his music. His albums are sold-out in many stores and are top sellers on Amazon and Itunes. He has over 400 songs on Itunes. I suspect this spike in his sales will continue for quite some time.

As to the tour, I like all the top four and am happy that they have the most songs. I suspect the 2d half of the show will be the top 4. Looking foward to the tour.

I would not even say the names of any of the Idols in the same breath as Michael Jackson. His career spanned over 40 years from the age of 7. He was a genius at his craft and there will never be another Michael Jackson. May he rest in peace.

  • Jx223

Anywho, I think (but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not 100%) that Danny said he would be doing PYT, also.

Danny’s says he is doing two new songs and two from the show. He’s doing “My Wish” and I believe “What Hurts The Most”. Laura Saltman from Access Hollywood said that he serenaded her with that song when she went to tour rehearsal. I don’t know what his other two songs are. I wonder what is the other new song he will be singing besides “My Wish”?

I wouldn’t mind him singing “PYT” again as his other song from the show. I think that was one of his best performances. I also wouldn’t mind if he is singing “Come Rain or Come Shine”. That is another performance of his that I thought was really good.

  • cookcricket

Tess, I think it has something to do with being musical artists. There is a connection between artists that transcends many things, if not all things. I see this in my husband who is an artist himself. It is as if they speak a language unknown to non artists/musicians. (me).

  • iluvai

I can’t believe it. I was on the computer reading all of these great posts and my nine year old just came down with pictures she took of Adam and Kris and Michael Jackson from the t.v. I missed something obviously. Darn….

  • flyaway

But, who’s going to continue the Mavid? Thought maybe Anoop and Matt – now that’s out if Matt’s stuck at the piano.

  • nuttin2lose

ok so who knows what lil, scott and sarver are singing?.

  • ShariG

I believe Kris said that he had five songs in his set. I wonder when we will hear what the other ones are. Happy about Heartless and Hey Jude. I wonder if the others will be from the show or something new.

  • saga

I still have a hard time seperating the person Michael from his art, not even sure I want to. Something didn’t seem right with him.

  • iluvai

MJ: I think whatever was on t.v. that I missed had Elizabeth Vargas hosting. If there is something that Adam and Kris said that hasn’t been posted, I hope you can find it. I have no idea what it was.

  • twinkle

they just showed interviews with kris and adam on the 20/20 special on MJ. they actually had quite a bit of footage of the top 2. they both had very sweet and respectful things to say about him and the role he played in their lives and in the world of music. (i think most of which is in print in the article MJ cited).

they also had a lead up to that segment in which she talked about MJ inspiring many of today’s young stars which showed a clip of justin timberlake…then Mariah Carey and then….? adam lambert! looks like ABC has caught the adam bug too.

as a child of the 80′s i grew up with post Jackson 5 Michael and was too young at the time of the first molestation charges to really understand it but i did and always will love his music and Michael the entertainer. watching his videos and hearing his songs over the last two days has brought back so many childhood memories and makes me sad for him and for those years he was truly awe inspiring instead of shock inspiring. i suppose maybe there really is a fine line between genius and insanity.

i hope IF the idols enjoy a fraction of the popularity and fame that MJ had in his life they also take some lessons from him and the damage that fame can do to some people.

  • ShariG

Saga, I know people believe different things about Michael Jackson, but I can’t help but think he was an extremely vulnerable person. It was easy for people to victimize him. And I have no doubt the parents of the two boys who accused him were after a big settlement. Otherwise why would they have settled? If he was really a child molester could they have been bought off? I sure couldn’t have. He was never convicted of any crime and as much as I have lost faith in the judicial system, I still don’t think he did anything illegal. I have never believed that he molested young boys, but he didn’t realize that it was inappropirate to be a buddy to young boys and to invite them to stay at his ranch unsupervised. He had such a strange life being in the spotlight from the time that he was very young. He really didn’t seem to have friends as a boy. He was always working and always with his brothers and adults. I think he was trying to recapture what he lost as a child when he was an adult by becoming friends with boys. I really don’t think he thought of it as inappropriate. I could simply be naive, but I prefer to believe that there was nothing sexual in his behavior. Just weird. That same weirdness led to genius in the musical domain.

Last week, I had the disturbing experience of turning 51.

At that time, I reflected on my life, and the fact that Michael Jackson, Donny Osmond and i were all the same age.

Now, Michael Jackson is dead. And he never seemed to have the same life experiences as Donny and I, (and millions of others) had. At least not in the typical manner.

    This made me sad.

Then I thought how Adam Lambert could be as unique at Michael Jackson. He certainly has captured the imagination of my family and, seemingly, that of families around the world.

I heard a radio talking-head speaking about how fame can screw a person up; about how fragile Michael Jackson appeared to be; about the shame that his family didn’t step up to help him…

Then I worried about Adam; about what we, the rabid fan base, might do to him…

Then I remembered Mombert and Dadam, and Adam himself talking about “keeping your friends close” and …

    I felt much better.

But I’m still 51, and poor Michael Jackson never will be.

  • unique28v

Adam and Kris described Michael Jackson perfectly. He will surely be a musical legend, and his work as a humanitarian will not be forgotten either. He did so much for people around the world.

  • twinkle

CindyM… i’m not totally sure. from what i can tell it looks like the normal 20/20 is on now, so the MJ special would have come on before it. they might run it after in some other places, though… im not sure. sorry! im on central time and it was on at 8pm

  • LisaE

I think it was smart of Adam to release a lot of his set list ahead of time. Especially for the non-show songs. That way, fans can get to know them and learn them before seeing him perform on tour. I was surprised more people didn’t do that. I guess if you’re singing “Hey Jude”, “Georgia On My Mind” and “My Wish” it isn’t as important. But if there’s an odd song choice, I think it would be smart to let people know!

“post-apocalyptic-rocked-out-space-disco-funkà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ look” — Where does he come up with this stuff?

  • CindyM

Just saw when they talked about watching him and they showed Adam singing Black/White, about 20 minutes in….pre regulary scheduled 20/20. Glad I changed the channel, thanks Twinkle!!

I know for sure that Megan only has 2 songs (per one of these entertainment reporters) and I read somewhere that Sarver and Scott have 2 songs too.

I’m happy about this. I just don’t think that those who finished 10, 9, and 8 should have the same amount of songs as those who finish 4, 5, and 6.

    So Kris has 6 solos.

    Adam–5 solos and a duet.

    Danny–4 songs.

    Allison–3 solos and a duet.

    (I am speculating below:)

Anyone know how many songs Matt gets? Probably 3.

    Anoop? 2 and a duet? (w/Lil)

Lil? 2 and a duet with Anoop, maybe?

    Scott, Megan, and Michael–just 2.

  • ShariG

I’ve been watching 20/20, too. They had a great special on Farrah Fawcet’s battle with cancer first and now the Michael Jackson story. It is very well done so far.

  • CindyM

Shari, is the first reference to Kris and Adam right after they show Justin, Mariah and then Adam? I missed the first part of the show.

  • twinkle

CindyM – yes. the first appearance of either of them is the clip of adam with justin and mariah as they go to commercial. then they are in the segment right after that commercial.

  • babybelle32

Aek, Kris has 5 solos, and Adam has 4 solos and a duet. There was a report that Kris was supposed to do something with Matt and Anoop, but it was scrapped.

    LOL

Thinking about three of the most instrumental solists of the 20th/21st century:

I was talking to a friend today who remembered (as did I) the day John Lennon was shot and killed (and he was only 40, younger than either of us). He was in the prime of his life and it was horrific. We all know the Elvis story. Michael was thrust into the spotlight when he was THREE years old with a verbally abusive father and no semblance of a childhood. Despite all of this, he was able to produce terrific music. But because of this, most likely, his adult life was in many ways in shambles. Such a shame, b/c it looked like it was getting it back together again.

Let’s hope we don’t have to worry about any of the Idols…it looks good from what we can tell.

  • AC

    Kris- 5 solos
Adam- 4 solos and a duet
    Danny- 4 solos
Allison- 3 solos and a duet
    Matt, Anoop, Lil- 3 solos
    Scott, Megan, Michael- 2 solos
    Big group number at end

I don’t know if there will be a smaller group number before the intermission

  • iluvai

That pic (at the beginning of the post) with Kris is great. Tongue out! Lovin life. Cute. Lil’s a tiny person but her hands look huge.

  • hwc

Such a shame, b/c it looked like it was getting it back together again.

Looks can be deceiving, especially when they are being put out there by PR agents.

From what I have read, members of Jackson’s family, ex-wives, close friends, and family lawyers all expected him to die from his long-term heavy opiate painkiller addiction. Few thought that he was in any shape to get through the upcoming London concerts. Stories suggest that he only made it to 3 of the 45 rehearsals and that the concert director had hired MJ lookalikes to handle the dancing in a number of the songs.

This was a man in the final stages of killing himself with narcotics, in exacly the same way that Elvis was toast. Jackson has been abusing narcotic pain killers since the 1980s and heavily addicted since 1993. In other words, he’s been a junkie for close to two decades. If you notice, there has been no big surprise expressed by anyone close to him.

  • ross

Michael was a child star, in a show business family, in the business most of his life. That’s really not an easy childhood or life. It’s a peculiar upbringing. Working all the time. That’s a whole different experience from becoming famous in your mid to late twenties. I think Adam is coming at it from a whole different place, as an adult. He should be fine.

  • stargirl

Adam is singing 5? so is Kris? I like Kradam but not enough for them to pull stuff like that just NO.I hope Kris is being treated like the winner.Even a duet is like a set.Nobody will let it go.

  • iluvai

Either Kris sing 6 sings or Adam 5

That seems kind of nicky picky.

Life just isn’t fair sometimes…It’s just the way it is.

  • stargirl

So kris should be treated like the runner-up? And Adam should be treated like twitter? I know life isnt fair but give kris the number of songs he derserves.
He won Adam didnt. So Kris should be singing more songs.

I will add this to the proof that 19 has adam in the head and cant be bothered with Kris or Allison.

This isn’t bothering Kris or Adam, so I don’t see why it’s a problem.

  • isisdagmar

Either Kris sing 6 sings or Adam 5

Or Kris sing 5 and adam sings 4

Stargirl, Allison is singing 3 solos and a duet, while Danny is singing 4 solos. They technically sing the same number of songs, but having 4 solos is better than having 3 solos and a duet, which makes sense since Danny came in ahead of Allison.

Similarly, Adam and Kris are both getting 5 songs, but Adam is singing 4 solos and a duet, while Kris, as the winner, is singing 5 solos.

That is perfectly fair. Technically, the top 4 all have almost the same number of songs, but Kris has the most solos of anyone in the show.

  • iluvai

I don’t think Kris is being treated like a runner-up. I really don’t. I don’t think Adam or any of the other idols see it that way. Kris won and they are proud of him. My “life just isn’t fair sometimes” comment didn’t come out the way I meant it. I just meant, it is what it is. There is no motive. I don’t know….

I bet they are all pretty happy about their songs. :)

  • hwc

Adam is singing 5? so is Kris? I like Kradam but not enough for them to pull stuff like that just NO.

I totally agree with you. The fans voted. The kid who won should have the longest set and headline billing on the tour. He should have been on the cover of Rolling Stone, not the guy who lost.

  • GeminiDolly

Adam is singing 5? so is Kris? I like Kradam but not enough for them to pull stuff like that just NO.

Kris gets to sing one more solo than Adam.

  • AC

On one hand, i would love to hear Kris do 6 solos (and throw in some duets and everything.. hehe) but 5 is still good. They have to record for their album at the same time so they do need to somewhat conserve their voice.

  • Anya

    Squirrely “This isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t bothering Kris or Adam, so I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see why ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a problem.”

We don’t really know that it isn’t bothering them. Besides, if it’s bothering the fans who pay the ticket price and invest the time, it sucks. If 19 lets the public vote, they should treat the winner as such. Otherwise, let 19 pick the winner, wait, they did and are trying to tell the voting audience that they got it wrong. Let’s google “reality show” and see what it really means.

  • babybelle32

I don’t think it’s a problem that Kris has five solos while Adam has four, and this is coming from a diehard Kris fan. I’d rather Kris didn’t put a lot of strain on his voice, especially since he will be recording his album, and probably promoting a single while the tour is going on. I would have liked to see him duet with Matt, or whatever they had planned for Matt, Danny and Kris, but I’d rather have Kris in his best shape on the album and during his media promotional blitz.

As far as 19 goes, yes they are still trying to force their own agenda, which is just so dumb, and will probably blow-up in their faces, especially as far as that Walmart compilation cd goes, but the bottom line is that AI can’t force people to support either Kris or Adam. I think history has shown that 19 can try to manipulate things as much as they want, but the public won’t just willingly follow them.

  • girlygirl

As far as we can tell (since he’s said nothing publicly), Kris doesn’t have a problem with how the tour is set up. I’m a Kradam/Kradison person, but my favorite is Kris — and I’m not upset about this. I look at it this way. First, Adam is doing 4 solos and a duet, as opposed to 5 solos for Kris. Second, one of Adam’s solos is a medley, rather than a full song. Third, Kris is doing Hey Jude — which is a huge spotlight number (not to mention a REALLY long song — it’s like 8 minutes!). So Kris may end up being out on the stage by himself longer than Adam. Also, Kris, not Adam, has the closing set of the show. Adam being spotlighted — as he should be. But so is Kris. In terms of fan interest at the actual shows, that will probably vary from stop to stop. On some nights, it might be a heavily Adam crowd, on other nights, it may be more into Kris (Little Rock, for one, will probably be heavily slanted in favor of Kris), on other nights, maybe one of the others will actually be more popular than either of the Top 2.

So I don’t think he’s being treated as anything other than the AI Idol for the tour. I actually have had more problems in terms of the lack of publicity he was getting — but in recent days he has gotten more, and there have started to be stories about who he’s working with on his album. So if his management/label was pushing him aside a bit, it looks like that issue has been handled. I also was a little worried that 19/Jive wasn’t helping him in terms of setting him up with producing/writing collaborators for his album. But that doesn’t appear to be the case, either.

Kris has consistently said that all he cares about is the music. As long as he’s being given a fair opportunity to showcase his music, he’ll be fine. And it appears he’s getting that opportunity.

  • girlygirl

PS :Adam and Kris have been asked whether they might do a Michael Jackson tribute on tour. Both said nothing had been discussed, and that the tour was pretty much set in stone as far as performances. But both seemed really interested in actually doing this. It would be cool if they could talk the tour producers into letting them do a Jackson song on tour — maybe as a Kris/Adam duet. Especially since both guys have been heavily influenced by him (as they said so clearly on the 20/20 special tonight)

I think it’s a good idea that they are doing the top 4 in 1/2 song increments instead of whole songs – all 4 have a strong fan base. Kris still gets the most so relax all you Kris fans. I think they had to work out a way to get that Slow Ride duet in because it was such a huge favorite with fans – and I think that the way they are doing this is excellent! Personally, I’m for Kradam and would love to see more of them but I do agree with a previous poster who said they need to protect their voices because of performing and recording going on. Can’t wait!!!

  • isisdagmar

Kris has one more solo than Adam. I really don’t see how anyone could find anything about that unfair.

Kris won, so he gets 5 solos (does he get an encore? I’ve heard something about that. That would sort of be six solos) and he closes the concert. Adam is the runner-up, so he gets 4 solos and the Slow Ride duet with Allison.

The top 4 have almost the same number of songs.
TBTB clearly recognize that at least 3 out of their top 4 are extremely talented (Kradison, in case that wasn’t clear)–more so than the rest of the group, as far as I can tell, and they are concentrating more of the concert with those people.

  • isisdagmar

Sorry, I’m not able to edit right now.

Second, one of Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s solos is a medley, rather than a full song

I’m not quite sure why a medley isn’t a full song–he’s combining three Bowie songs, and I’m assuming that the medley will be at least the length of one normal song.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I would think Kris, Adam and Allison are all okay with their set list. Keep in mind all three are also recording on tour and might want to save their voices. I think fans place more importance on the number of songs because they want to see their faves. Since I’m all over Kradison, I will just enjoy all of it (hopefully).

I don’t have tickets yet, but I hope that there’s a break b/n Allison and Adam (break being Danny), so I can prepare for the awesomeness that will be Kradam. And who knows? Perhaps I’ll get back in time to witness a Gokey tune. Or not. *shrugs*

  • didilynn

pj – you don’t have tickets yet?? whaaat? you better get em soon, the best seats are gone unless you’re willing to pay sky high prices through a reseller!

Personally, I’m only going to see Adam, but Kris and Allison should be good too.

  • fox

The tour is what it is, and is pretty much set in stone and they are being upfront about it. I would think that if anyone finds the set list that bad they should just not go. It all sounds pretty fair to me even though I definitely am going to see just one performer, but I know up front that the show will be with all of them and I want to go anyway. I think each person just needs to make their own decision and decide if it’s worth it to them. Also keep in mind that many people who voted wont be going to the show, there will be fans for all of them there and the producers know that and want to make it a good experience for all regardless who their favorite performer is.

  • eyin

I’m interested in how Megan would do on “Tears Dry on Their Own”. I love that song, and I actually like Megan’s voice. I wanted her sing Adele’s “Right as Rain” on Top Downloads night.

  • riaspark17

I’m so confused…does Adam’s Bowie medley count as one song since the songs are shortened? If not, then that makes four songs right there (including Starlight) the Slow Ride duet…but I could have sworn I read somewhere that Adam said he’d be reprising Mad World? Can anyone clarify?

  • flicker

MJ, where did you hear that Matt is singing Human Nature? He definitely hinted on Twitter that his second Idol song is You Found Me.

    Just curious. TIA.

  • isisdagmar

riaspark17: as far as we know, Adam is singing Mad World, Starlight, a Bowie medley (don’t know how long this is going to be), another solo that will probably be a song from the show, and Slow Ride with Allison. 4 solos, 1 duet.

Whether the “voting” fans like it or not the “real world” emphasis is all about Adam. If you watch the “local” fox broadcasts of the media blitz from tour rehearsals it is ALL about Adam. As I have said before NO ONE can control how the media presents the tour and the contestants. It is up to each media outlet to do what they find “newsworthy” for their particular viewers.

Obviously there is a slight disconnect this year between who won via the “voters” and who is being highlighted. I really feel that both Adam and Kris have come to terms with this….it is what it is. Now, hopefully, the rest of us will just sit back and allow it to be what it is.

I feel pretty comfortable that Kris is the LAST ONE agonizing over the fact that he isn’t getting to wear the crown and rule the AI Tour kingdom by himself. He got what he had hoped for out of the competition: a recording contract, a chance to perform live on tour, the opportunity to collaborate with good songwriters and producers. Everything else is just gravy. And, from what I have observed in his media interviews, he is very happy for Adam’s success and he knows that Adam, the person and his friend, can’t be held responsible for where the media attention is going.

  • ross

Regarding MJ, he was an adult as a boy and a boy as an adult.

    lurksalot, good point.

As for “Kris gets five solos, Adam gets four solos and a duet:” To me that’s splitting hairs. A duet isn’t somehow less important or memorable. In fact, Slow Ride was a hightlight of the whole season, so I don’t see how this can be seen as Adam getting anything “less.” Besides which, he’s also doing a medley.

Actually I’m less concerned with number of songs as with presentation.

Adam mentioning “outfits” (more than one?) leads me to imagine all sorts of stagey, pyrotechnical stuff in Adam’s set that has nothing to do with singing. That’s the kind of stuff that steals focus from the rest.

Media blitz: I have to be honest, I must live in a cave, I’ve never really seen this media blitz about Adam everyone keeps mentioning. I don’t watch Fox news, though. I haven’t seen any big Adam-oriented tabloid covers, and I actually have combed the newsstand to see any magazine covers of Adam or Kris, and I see none, not even the teen magazines (there’s just Adam cover of RS, which I still see on the shelves even though the new one with the Jonas Bros. is also out. So much for the Adam issue supposedly “flying” off the shelves).

I suppose if you’re really looking, maybe. I don’t know. I’m just missing it, I guess.

  • JazzRocks

I agree with everything Tess just said. 19 is not stupid. To not highlight the performer who is getting the most attention from fans & press alike would be dumb. Every article about the tour that I’ve read online has the vast majority of comments about going to the tour for Adam. And, if it’s not obvious, me too. So I’m naturally delighted that he’ll have 4 songs & a duet. I wish it were even more.
I’m sure Kris is a happy man right now. He’ll be doing the most solos on the tour, he has a recording contract & his future looks very bright.

  • hwc

I totally agree. If the guy who lost has pyro, the guy who won should have at least the same amount of pyro, probably more. A barrage of flash pots would go great with his folk ballads.

  • ross

Every article about the tour that Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve read online has the vast majority of comments about going to the tour for Adam.

Adam fans online do seem to be apt to comment, shall we say, more enthusiastically, vis a vis kris fans. Not sure whether number of comments = number of fans.

Just for the record, here, I see a huge amount of comments about going to the concert to see Kris, online. Many more than I expected, because I’m so used to seeing the “I loooove Adam! Give me more Adam!” comments.

  • sapphire

First of all, yes, Adam enjoys the outfits and stagey, pyro stuff, but he is an amazing, amazing singer.

Secondly, Adam stands out. It’s not something that has to make sense or seem fair… it’s not even something he can control. The outfits and high-energy performances are a part of who he is and who he wants to be. And these things were all a part of him throughout the whole competition — they should not surprise anyone at this point. During MJ week, the very first week on the big stage, Paula told Adam that he “marries fashion with music” and that everything he does is an extension of who he is, or words to that effect.

Adam is a performer in every sense of the word. If everyone else just wants to stand there quietly and sing, then it’s not Adam’s fault that he steals the focus.

I really hope those of us that love Michael Jackson for his music rise above those who want to only talk about the tragedy of his personal life and get caught up in the controversy of his death. Michael Jackson was a legend, a music icon, a genius and an international superstar.

To compare any aspect of the Idols (and that includes Adam) with MJ is absolutely delusional. None of these Idols have done anything yet other than come on a reality TV show. We don’t know if any of them will make it in the music industry.

As to the tour, I just assumed 5 thru 10 were getting 3 solos as in past AI tours. If 8 thru 10 get 2 and 5 thru 7 get 3, that is 15 numbers for the first half. With Allison getting 3, Danny 4, Adam 4 and Kris 5, plus Adam and Allison duet you get 17 in 2d half. I am also think there will be a group number in the 1st half and a group number in the 2d. Looks like 2d half may be a tad longer.

  • hwc

To compare any aspect of the Idols (and that includes Adam) with MJ is absolutely delusional.

I don’t know. I’ve listened to Jackson’s Black or White back to back with Lambert’s studio version several times this week. Of course, it’s an unfair advantage to be covering the original and props to Jackson for the creativity of a great song, but Lambert sings circles around Jackson on that song.

  • spring2009

MJ – do you go to see the show?? I would LOVE to hear MJ’s take on it afterward if she does see it!!

  • Squirrely

I wonder if they will change some of the sets to include Michael Jackson songs. I would love to hear Adam sing ‘EarthSong’ or ‘They Don’t Care About Us’.

    RIP Michael.

  • lizzy12345

    It is worth repeating:

To compare any aspect of the Idols (yes I mean Adam too) with Michael Jackson is absolutely delusional as is any comparison with Elvis.

Both MJ and Elvis were HUGE superstars and the biggest selling artists of all time. I believe I read Elvis is the biggest seller, Beetles next, and Michael Jackson. And now that MJ is gone, watch the sales of his music go through the roof.

    Gotta keep it real peeps.

  • Qcloud9

I remember last year they had some fog enveloping D. Archuletta at one point, and maybe Brooke (?), and possibly others IDK, so special effects have been used before.

Should not have read this while eating, now my keyboard needs cleaning.

Also I doubt an idol concert will have pyro, the most he may get is colored strobe lights.

The sale have already skyrocket on itunes. And I agree no one can ever be Michael, he is/was a unique individual and an untouchable talent. With that being said, I still want to see Adam sing the songs I mention.

Yeah, but never underestimate the visual effect of color lights glinting off the big-bucks Idol tin foil stage set!

I think a lot of that depends on where you live. Several newsstands and bookstores in the Downtown Boston area sold out of Adam/s RS cover. I have Adam and Kris on google alert, and Adam alerts were filling my inbox to capacity at one point, not so much now since the bigger news stories have been spoken about. And no I have not seen Adam on/in the tabloids which in my opinion is a good thing.

  • BestAI

Adam is singing 5? so is Kris? I like Kradam but not enough for them to pull stuff like that just NO.

I totally agree with you. The fans voted. The kid who won should have the longest set and headline billing on the tour. He should have been on the cover of Rolling Stone, not the guy who lost.

Kris does have the longest set (he has five solos, one very long one, to Adam’s four). He closes the show and has the headline billing according to American Idol.

Adam nor 19 can help if Adam got the cover of Rolling Stone. If they had asked Kris, he would have been on there, but RS was interested in Adam. If some news media focused on Adam instead of Kris, that again is no fault of 19. I’m sorry for Kris fans, but many people including the media are interested in Adam. He is very charismatic and his star is shining. 19 gave Kris the major promo opportunities (Leno, Ellen, etc.); Adam was invited by the media (20/20, Access Hollywood, etc.)

Absolutely. There is and ever will be only one Elvis and only one Michael Jackson. Their respective contributions to music and pop culture were not just good, they were truly extraordinary. Elvis has not been forgotten and today’s artists acknowledge MJ’s pioneering and enduring impact. Music lovers around the world will continue to appreciate Elvis and MJ in the decades to come.

I think Adam doing access hollywood and 20/20 was 19′s doing.I love how adam fans think adam is god that every wants him.Newsflash there both
charming and there both charismatic. And there both gonna be big.Just because
kris isnt shoving himself into the media doesnt mean people arent interested.

Nobody on AI will ever come to to elvis or MJ.I mean nobody ever even outside of idol.Thet were the king of pop and the king of rock and roll.To say kris or adam are going to be the MJ is very….funny.

Yup…many fans will be going to the tour to see their favs. For many it will be their last opportunity because that person will totally fade into oblivion once the tour is over. I know the feeling, too, it has happened to me. So sad, but so inevitable.

Anoop is the reason I’m going to this show. I will enjoy seeing some of the others, but I wouldn’t be making the effort to go to the show just for them. I just don’t go to see every performer I like in concert. Anoop is one of those special people I really want to see perform live. I will go to Anoop’s own concerts in the future also.

RIP MJ – something I found on a new age site and I love it’s message:

“It really doesn’t matter how he passed. We will learn it was a combination of things, medication, exhaustion, stress and a life at the forefront. He spent essentially his whole life in an exalted fashion and that takes its toll.

It will be shown over time how he lived. He embraced humanity. He really was a loving father, a show business legend that will last for hundreds of years and a decent human being.

He was also a female energied man. Many parts of society distrusted that, especially the less “illuminated” parts. The planet is changing.

Female energied men will start to be embraced finally. Men will be respected for their nuturing, loving side rather than their dominance and abilty to win at all costs.

Perhaps the lesson is people come in all shapes and sizes and that we just accept people for who they actually are instead of what we want them to be.

That is a tough one but perhaps it is about time we start”

If true, this bodes well for my favorite AI contestant ever: Adam Lambert

I think music stores will have to create a section just for Adam, because I doubt that his stuff will fit neatly into any one category, hehe. Can’t wait!!

    Oh and “My Prerogative”?! Ugh.

  • Mary102

    ‘post-apocalyptic-rocked-out-space-disco-funk” look

LOL! Well, that’s all I need to get me to the tour :-) I love how equally excited Adam is about his costume and his music — brings back memories of the US Weekly interview (Kris: “I am also looking forward to Adam’s outfit”)

Otherwise, songs sound pretty good. No surprise to hear the new reveals (Anoop doing “My Prerogative”, Kris doing “Heartless”)

  • Mary102

Similarly, Adam and Kris are both getting 5 songs, but Adam is singing 4 solos and a duet, while Kris, as the winner, is singing 5 solos.

Just some comments about this, fwiw: Hey, Jude is also being sung at the end by the rest of the group, isn’t it? Not sure how that will work out, but I’m guessing Kris sings the beginning (and most of the song), then segues into the others joining him.

Re so much focus on Adam, regardless of who has more fans out there, per se, I think there is a lot of interest in Adam performing live. Even non-fans of his have commented that they’d buy an album from Kris, but go to see Adam perform (he’s just a very exciting, energetic performer). So there is that interest to be sure.

And re the special effects for Adam, well, I’m not sure how much Adam had to do with this vs. the AI behind-the-scenes folks, but my guess is that Adam, with his theater background and performance experience, had a LOT of input during the season regarding how to stage his songs. I’m immediately reminded by Feeling Good: the theatricality on that (the stairs, white suit, lighting, everything), were CRAZY (in a good way ;-) ) and almost every other song that night featured someone just standing at the middle of the stage with a spotlight and little more. Just saying that I think it’s more Adam’s sense of putting on a show, rather than some behind the scenes conspiracy, that results in his songs just having more glitz, glamour, and effects. JMO.
