I’ve always preferred British bands but One Republic has been the only American band I’ve enjoyed listening too. It gives me the Coldplay vibe.

  • Axxxel

Kat sings well but I thought she could be a bit more playful with the leadsinger.

  • iluvai

One Republic was great. Kat didn’t stand out to me, but I so love her. I’m sure she will keep on keeping on. Is she still married? oh, lovely voice Kat. :)

  • Diana Adams Tyler

I love One Republic. I thought Kat seemed a little uncomfortable when the lead singer was a bit playful during the duet.

  • Liteasy

I thought the band was good, but Kat was out of place. She definitely is not a pop singer, and hasn’t she had three albums already trying to find her place in the music world?

  • Happyhexer

Showing off my ignorance here, lol. I’ve heard of One Republic, of course, but I think this might be the first time I’ve seen them perform. That was very enjoyable. The Idol contestants could learn something from watching Ryan Tedder perform. He was fully in the moment with the music. Kat sounded great, but seemed a bit stiff and uncomfortable. (Never saw her season of Idol, so I have no horse in that race.)

Katherine looks gorgeous. Beautiful vocals. She’s fine and herself on the stage. Ryan is always hopping around when he performs. That’s his style. Compare with Ryan, she’s more reserve and that’s her style. Maybe she had a bad day (i.e. Smash) and didn’t feel like jumping around much.

  • SingAndBreak

I love Ryan Tedder, I love One Republic and I always look forward to see them perform. He just lives music and that’s how it’s supposed to be. You can see the joy when he performs. Best feeling in the world.

    McPhee must have a lover, or a secret admirer who’s a big name in the music world and who’ll never, ever, will give up of trying to make her successful;

  • Connie Swain

Loved this as well as Colton’s performance. What a difference – someone showing life on the stage of Idol this season.

  • Pixie Baker

That performance was a bit awkward for me….Katherine seemed out of place here.
Katherine has been trying to find her place all these years and so far she seems still lost. My favorite spot for her is when she sings ballads…and even at that it is just …lovely. All other attempts by her are not completely bad but not all that good….she is just so flat in her performances.

  • mmb

That performance was just weird. There seemed to be no reason for Kat to be there. I would have liked to have seen her get a little video package and not just be referred to as “recording artist Katherine McPhee” — which was weird in and of itself. I don’t know what it is about Kat — she is a gorgeous woman, and is an excellent singer and quite good dancer. But something just doesn’t scream “star” — I don’t know if its a lack of charisma, or her sleepy affect or what it is. But as Jimmy would say re: Angie, something isn’t working and we have to fix it. She is very talented and beautiful so I hope she works it out. Tedder sounded like raw balls as usual. Great songwriter, awful singer. But he definitely gives it his all when performing

  • Allison

she’s,married to a much older guy, Nick Cokas. She performed here like she acts in Smash, no spark.

  • Garrett Clayman

I thought Kat was really awkward in this performance but for Columbia, take notes this kind of song is the perfect for her album. Something with a Florence and the Machine vibe

  • HKfan

mmm, Kats vocals didn’t seem that great here, when I could hear her, she was a bit oiverpowered by the music……and she just seemed very out of place and not a natural fit for this at all.

  • Li Wright

Read the VFTW comment about McPhee.

  • Li Wright

The reason she still seems lost is because she brings nothing special to music. She’s just another singer among many. Megan Hilty is a much better and powerful singer than McPhee.

  • curly_yenta

VFTW hit the nail dead on with Mcphee. So funny! ;)

  • SnowFairy444

I didn’t get it, but Kat is a beautiful woman. I think Kat belongs on Broadway or Vegas.

    Love the new hairstyle.

  • Liteasy

It’s all in the family: Mom and sister are Idol coaches and her hubby is her manager.

  • calico

What will it take for this woman to go away? She’s not a musician, couldn’t write a decent song to safe her life, sucks any bit of charisma out of the room that may be lurking about, is as affected in her acting as performing (and hasn’t improved one bit since Idol), and yet keeps showing up in high profile gigs. It’s vexing to see insiders like this suck up opportunity after opportunity while there are legions more deserving mucking around in the trenches.

  • Connie Stamley

AI is really getting there money’s worth from that smoke machine this year.

  • Fan Dja

    That was awkward.

  • usedtobelucy

“Kat sounded great, but seemed a bit stiff and uncomfortable. (Never saw her season of Idol,”

Well, you may not have watched her for a season, but from one performance you’ve summed her up completely. heh …. I always have hoped that with more experience she’d loosen up as a singer and actor, because she is beautiful and talented, but it looks now as if that’s never going to happen.l

  • curly_yenta

Yea, she can be one of Bally’s Jubilee topless showgirls. That would be perfect for her. lol

  • MissMyEm

Performance was as dull as dishwater. Ryan Tedder reminds me of a blonde Jud Nelson. Kat has always had a good voice but for some reason this song didn’t suit her. I also think she needs to do Broadway.

  • Robert Mattern

Okay I didnt think the performance was as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Mind you this is the first time Katharine is performing LIVE in 2+ years. Another note is they didnt move the key up for Kat. If they moved the key up it would have been out of Ryan’s range. Lets also take into consideration how much rehearsal time did they get to pan out the duet? So please take all this into account. And she is busy working on her album. Ryan and Kat are co-writing songs for it. She is a busy woman who is constantly working. Give her some credit. Sheesh

  • DavidL

I agree this wasn;t the best collaboration choice for them, but I am looking forward to their collaboration for kat’s next album. McHaters can disappear thank you
