American Idol Top 7 Redux – Now And Then

This week’s American Idol theme, via TVLine

The Top 7 will perform two songs each. One , a Billboard #1 hit from 2000 to 2012. The other a “soul” song from a previous decade.

    the “show” probably won’t crown her the winner.

    There is no way she can win now or even make Top 2 anymore.   There will always be the lingering controversey as to whether the show forced the vote. And honestly, she probably is indispensable to TPTB at this point.

    Elise or Joshua would KILL papa was a rolling stone..if not i hope Elise will reprise This Is A Man’s World..and Joshua will do some Otis Redding, James Brown, Sam Cooke, or something along those lines..Phillip needs to step it up and stop doing the same things or he won’t even make top 4, he need to take a pop some and completely rearrange it not like the maroon 5 song because that already has a rockish vibe to it, but something more like Justin Bieber, or like what he did with the Usher song, or better yet, to take a female pop song and twist it around like E.T.-Katy Perry, doing that acoustically could be really good, or teenage dream

    LOL, yeah all the fan bases have to rally against “the evil” Jessica Sanchez. Sorry, but it’s laughable at this point how the youngest contestant in this competition is being vilified because Jimmy/the Judges like her. And how is she a liability to the show?

    Here is the great Dusty Springfield singing probably her greatest song ever – “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” in 1967. This is a live performance, the quality isn’t great, but listen to that voice!

    There is a good deal of risk if Holly were to sing this.  She would have to bring the emotion. That was one of Dusty’s great strengths. She had an incomparable voice, but also brought so much power and depth of feeling when she sang.

    Why would they want to get rid of arguably the best singer in the competition? That makes no sense to me.

    There is no such thing as the best singer in the competition.  It is all subjective.  Everyone is talented in their own ways – and appeals to different people.  Nigel already did an about face and  says that she needs to show more personality and make better song choices.  Randy and Steven were quick to cover themselvs with MTV and said that both Colton and Phillip are very strong contenders for the crown.  The writing is the on the wall for Jessica.  At best, Top 4.

    Hey, what does “previous” decade mean? Is it just the 90s? Or can they choose from as far back as they want > 40s, 50s, 60s?

    You know what?! Just had an enlightenment. It wouldn’t be such a bad idea if Jessica gets voted off this week. She already had a big drama moment. She can start guesting on TV shows,  show off her vocals. Every show a different song and killing it every time, gain more fans. Its what happens after that matters more anyway. :)

    No it will not be good for Jessica. You know it will just generate more “hate” because they will call it a “self-serving” song if Jessica sang it. But if Hollie sang it though >they will eat it up. They’ll say > That’s it girl fight back!

    I just hope everyone would have a good night on their performances this week. And I hope each of the contestants would grab the opportunity to really sing a “current” song, in other words, songs that are really familiar to recognize.

    Personally, I hope Jessica has learned her lesson last week that it’s not just about doing all those vocal arobatics and impressing the judges but more importantly impressing her audience and the casual viewers/voters. Because I honestly don’t think some fanbases of other contestants are open to transfer their votes to her once their own favorites get outvoted from the others as far as I have observed. That may changed though if she continues to really impress.
