American Idol Season 8 -Top 9 Song Spoiler and Pre-show Discussion Thread

Maybe no spoilers for tonight is how it’s meant to be… Maybe Adam has locked up our spoil-ees for his extra surprise… I’m just psyched about tonight and who am I kidding… I want spoilers!

It’s Top 9 now, not Top 10.

That does seem slightly more expansive than #1′s.

I’m antsy about tonight’s show.

I want spoilers too, but I have to go do grocery shopping, dammit. I prolly won’t get back in until just before show time. I wan’t spoilers, darnit. I know that Adam will surprise us.

I think there is a good chance Adam will do Disturbia. Crazy is also a possibility, but Adam has shown a hesitancy to do anything that he has already done in the public eye before. I personally get nervous anytime Adam sings a song made famous by a woman because his amazing falsetto then starts to sound like a female impersonation.

Adam has given use raunchy (Satisfaction), fun (Black & White), bizarre (ROF) and tender (Tears). The things he hasn’t given us are Big, Funk, Broadway or Rock. I am guessing tonight he brinsg either the Funk or the Big.

If he goes Disturbia, he’ll bring the funk.

The last time there was a theme like that was in season 5 I guess.
It was a disaster.

While we are “patiently” waiting for spoilers, the new iPhone confessionals are up and apparently the Idols are supposed to talk about Mansion life. Roomies Adam and Kris (Kradam) are freakingly cute talking about each other! From IDF:

So, i figured i post some Kradam mentions in Adam’s Top 9 confessional video from the iPhone app.

- adam calls this year’s group goofy.
- shares his room with Kris, as we all know.
- Kris is “the nicest guy in the world, so laidback, really mellow”
- Kris falls asleep at the drop of the hat, Adam tosses and turns for a while.

- Adam and Kris share a bathroom, which includes a beday. (“a sink for the other side” as Adam put it”)
- Plumbing was off the first day they moved in, and Kris went to turn it on (cause he’s never seen one before, but have heard of them) and the water just shot right up to the ceiling. lmao.gif. Kris apparently turns around and says “I don’t think i’m gunna use this”.

This is from Kris’ confessional:
- Adam is a great roomate, they get along really well.
- They talk alot, about the show and other things.
- He’s a funny guy, and great to be around.
- Adam is messier than Kris in the bathroom because he has more stuff. And all Kris has is like, “face wash and a toothbrush”

In a way, Adam has become the “Sanjaya with Talent” of this season. One of the burning questions in everyone’s mind (besides what he will sing and how he’ll sing it), is what the heck he’s gonna do with his hair.

If he wears a black tutu, ballet slippers, dances on point and sings “Umbrella” I’ll still vote for him .

I got all excited…thought song spoilers were here! It ¨’s after 11 in the pm here so gotta go. Great that the show is back to Tuesday. I can get up, make my coffee and enjoy the vid performances here. I have late office hours and don ¨’t teach until the afternoon!

I’m both excited and worried for them tonight. This is the time to show them how current sounding they can be, i think; how they fall into the musical landscape today. The problem is they have to negotiate the path between brilliant and karaoke and that’s hard especially with songs from this century.

All the Idols from starting from Top 13 on, are supposed to be doing weekly confessionals on an downloaded application for iPod Touch or iPhone (I’m not sure if both or just one). So far, I’ve just seen the Adam fans uploading the videos to youtube.

But there are alot of Kradam fans out there now, so Adam’s fans are uploading Kris’ this week since he talks about Adam.

So if you want to see your favorite Idol’s confessional, you’re going to have to download them yourself or have some other fan to it for you!

Kris and Adam totally made my day! They’re my favorite two Idols this year and it makes me happy to see them getting along and having fun! I was missing some of the fun banter between the Idols like Michael/Cookie and Blake/Chris from previous seasons!

They probably put the Kodak under lockdown cause Mylie is there. Geesh, that girl has the best peeps in the biz … she is everywhere!

I honestly think Kris is correct in saying he could never wear Adam’s eyeliner. He needs a much more subtle shade to go with his coloring. I just love a man who knows what he should and shouldn’t wear. Adam is all about Black while Kris obviously needs a more subtle brown shade.

I was 11 when they hit the scene, if you will, and I’m still a little bit in love, haha. “When You Look Me In the Eyes” is high quality tween pop music, I loves it!

Sometimes I think that something weird is going on there. He has massive pop-up ads running (very very very annoying), and sometimes when I am there, my computer keeps making these odd clicking noises and then acts weird.

I’m starting to think Paula was wrong (surprise, surprise) and maybe Top Downloads means the songs that have been dowloading the most on iTunes. They wouldn’t necessarily reach the top of the charts if it was over a long period of time. I remember seeing a list of the most popular downloads of the whole time iTunes had existed a year or so ago. Most of them weren’t #1s, but songs that people continued to download steadily over the years. That would explain Don’t Speak and Megan’s Bob Marley song, since neither has been #1 on iTunes, nor are they currently charting.

I’m bored already.

First off, the theme must be much broader than #1 downloads because “Don’t Speak” came out in 1996. I’m sure it’s charted on iTunes at some point, though. But I am sad that contestants are managing to go back that far. On a personal note, I’ve never been fond of that song, and Allison singing No Doubt is pretty much akin to Allison singing P!nk–it’s very obvious, and I can picture the performance in my head before it happens.

I can also picture Danny’s performance of “What Hurts The Most,” so nothing unexpected there. I don’t think it was #1 on the Digital Download chart, either, but I could be wrong (I didn’t go back and check). Rascal Flatts covered that song–it’s not original to them.

Anoop singing “Caught Up.” Eh. Ok, whatever. I guess it’ll be fun. Another song I’m not crazy about. Chikezie sang it really well on the Idol tour last year, though. At least he’s upping the tempo.

Megan singing “Turn The Lights Down Low.” First thought. Huh? Second thought after I looked it up on youtube. Huh? When was this a top download? Melodically it doesn’t go anywhere, so she better do something more with it in the minute and thirty that she has. A change of arrangement would be good.

I don’t want to laugh at some of these comments but I can’t help it.

I think Danny can change the genre on that song and sing the snot out of it…….I just can’t believe he’s going to a “lost love” song so early in the competition. He must be feeling under pressure as I actually thought he’s save it for the final rounds, cynic that I am.

Allison and Anoop are doing what they were told to do. Paula requested that Allison show a more vulerable side; there is not many songs that could do that better than Dont Speak. Anoop got the more up tempo request from both Randy and paula, IIRC; Caught Up is up tempo enough without getting to out there. Both songs ae perfect choices to get at least a couple of judges thinking very positive going into the performance.

Looks like they are trying to squelch Megan, if Allison and Danny nail their performances, Megan’;s won’t even be a memory to most viwers. And Scott is in the real death spot, especially if Adam goes after him.

Something tell me Lil is getting another pimp slot. Her AI forum folder is more pitiful than Syesha’s was last year. She’s getting almost no online buzz unless it’s Simon saying she’s his pick for top girl. My thinking is her vote numbers were not all that much higher than Megan’s and they cannot have Simon’s pick off before Megan.

Adam has been number 5, and 8 and 11. He has not had the pimp spot since the actual show started.

Adam will not be in the top half of the show because then people would switch channels. It’s the same reason David Cook (or I suspect Blake in season 6) was rarely in the top half of the show. Most people who watch Idol don’t vote and don’t have OMG!!11!! eleventy boyfriends for the season. They watch to see the show. Right now Adam is the show. The way to change that is for a different contestant to generate their own buzz. Until that happens get used to frustration. Ratings matter a whole lot more than fair to Idol.
