If you've noticed Adam has never once talked back to the judges when they critique him or ever came off as pompous or self absorbed, and he takes the opportunity to work the audience and thank the band. He even googles himself, so he is aware how he is coming across to America. Adam is really playing the game well. Where as the others are letting the judges and TPTB's mind fucks get the best of them, Adam is doing everything exactly right. If that means that he's being calculating, than so be it. Better to be calculating in showbiz than stupid. David Cook played the game very well too and did his homework before entering the show, which is why he made it all the way.
