I am glad that they didn’t introduce the judges tonight the way they have been the past few weeks. I like that the judges were already in their seats when the show began.

Danny: Rough opening. Not bad. He’s obviously got strong vocals- i love when he goes all gritty in his upper register. Um, nothing too special about it. Hes kinda starting to sound the same to me every week.

Lots of off-key moments for Gokey. I bet they don’t say a beep about it though. They never do, when it’s him.

Darn, that performance of Danny’s reminded me of Taylor Hicks.

When it comes to Danny, what the judges hear is not what I hear. *sigh* Amazing how they find a way to pimp sub-par performances when they are by TCOs.

I wonder if TPTB somehow got word of how much people hated the opening with the judges being announced and walking out. Glad it’s gone this week.

Looks like Danny will be number 1 on DI again!

1) Danny Gokey does nothing for me. I do like his glasses and outfit this week though- very 80s.

2) Randy and Kara have no imaginations, and I want one of them off the judges panel ASAP. I don’t need to hear Kara take twice as long to repeat whatever stupid thing Randy has said after every contestant.

3) I liked the first half of the arrangement. The 2nd half sounded like Donna Summers, and that’s just wrong!

Danny was good, I don’t think he was that off key at all. I think he did better than the past few weeks.

There were a couple of notes at the beginning that made me cringe. I thought he was going to make a face on that one bad note. Eek, usually he is ok, not great, and they praise him.

Stand by Me was his worst of the season though. No surprise the judges loved it.

Lil looks fabulous. But her performance is boring to me. Maybe the song is too much of a karaoke staple. And she sounds out of breath.

The sad thing is, I think thats the best Lil’ has got. I thought it was karaoke.

ETA: Forgot to add, at least it was nice to see how Kris reacted to the judges’ first real criticism of him this season. I think he handled it pretty well.

So basically this week’s ep is crap so far. I need to find something else to look forward to besides Idol every week.

Lil looks good, really good, but she should have done a better job with that. Paula was nice to her and anytime she starts out with how beautiful someone is… She made sense and I can’t believe I agree with her.

I was expecting them to reverse course and pimp the hell out of Lil tonight so I’m surprised she got the “karaoke” kiss of death from Paula. They’ve got to let go of this idea that she’s a great vocalist. She hasn’t had one great performance. She’s run of the mill for her chosen genre and certainly doesn’t hold a candle to folks like Jennifer Hudson, LaToya London, or Kimberly Locke. I hate to say that because she was one of my early favorites but she has really disappointed.

Lil was positively horrendous. Not one ounce of originality in that performance. Every facial expression, every body movenment, every intonation of her voice a direct copy of Tina…and a bad copy at that. She really needs to go…no way will she ever be a recording artist in her own right.
But, her voting block is strong ….so, oh well!!

I think Lil’s talented but has no clue about picking songs. Early on, auditions maybe, I thought she was one of the best. Not anymore. She is getting worse, not better.

At least they didn’t pimp Lil again.

It sure ain’t Season 7. Every year they call them the “most talented ever!” and it usually ain’t but this one is shaping up as epic bad. What is so funny is that so many of them (Lil, Matt, Danny, Alexis, hell even Megan) were so much better in their auditions. It’s like they got in and went downhill instead of up. Not fun to watch.

I’ve always loved True Colors. anoop sounds good, but he is boring to me.

Why is it that the contestants are always apologizing for being human, yet the judges never admit they were wrong, stupid, or, God knows what (drunk, stoned?) in Paula’s case? They’re being unfairly harsh with everyone but Danny and Anoop this week.

My favorite performance of the night. Really felt that one by Anoop. That was really good, maybe my favorite by him so far.

Anoop was good, we know he can sing ballad tough, one day he will need to nail an up tempo song, but yeah, he did well enough to be here next week.

I liked Anoop for the first time. He’s a sweet guy.

I’m glad Simon responded that way. I was kind of feeling sorry that Anoop felt the pressure and need to apologize.

There were some nice sweet spots in his vocal.

Well done Anoop, that exceeded my expectations. Easily the best of the night so far……well that’s not actually saying a lot though is it?

I think they have all been a little boring so far.

Anoop did a nice job. I’m still waiting for him to find that middle ground, though. He doesn’t seem to do well unless he’s singing slower songs. He kinda bored me, though. There’s was no color to his performance, and the higher notes were strained and nasal.

Anoop .. nice and safe. Not flashy, not uber exciting, just calm and sweet. Good vocals but the song didn’t wow me. He just needs his clefhangers to give him street cred.

I feel bad for kris because he was really surging last week. Wow, talk about letting the air out of the balloon. Both Kris and Matt need to stay a million miles away from the rock.

I did Gwendolyn. I was pissed off at the judges comments last week and was happy he got back in their faces. They gasm’d over the Bobby Brown but then dissed him doing R&B? Made no sense. I voted for Anoop 50 times JUST cause he called their crap.

Simon has never given Allison a straight critique. He has always managed to turn even a positive review into something slightly negative. Boring, bad clothes, mustache, no personality. She seems to be showing as much personality as any of the others, especially since she didn’t get any pre-finals back story like most of the others.

Simon wants her to *lighten* up? Is this like a British – American translation fail?

I actually get that–she’s only sung kind of depressing songs. Simon likes teenagers to act their age and he believes 16 year olds need to be happier.

Allison was the best so far but that’s not saying much for tonight’s performances.

Allison- just WOW! If there’s any justice in the world, she’ll get a contract and be huge. She pours so much emotion into her singing. Imagine when she has the experiences to back up the emotion, how powerful she’ll be.

I thought that Anoop has been the best so far. Then I think that Danny and Allison were the next best. I think that so far the bottom three should be Lil, Scott, and Kris, but I could change my mind, depending on how everyone else sounds.

I don’t get why Allison isn’t likeable. She’s not making stupid comments. She’s cute. She’s AGE APPROPRIATE which is nice. There is nothing more that I hate than 16 yo girls dressing like 3 dollar hookers. I just don’t understand why she doesn’t seem to have a fan base. I know she has fans. WTF!!!!

Anoop’s apology kinda sounded like he was sorry he let their constant unfair criticism get to him. He and Allison are the only two that have performed well so far. Kudos to Scott for trying something different but, bad singing! Judges should have really hammered him for that.

What Simon is saying is just for her own good, I think it means he wants her to go far. Cause it’s true, personality matters in this show, people like to know a bit more of you other than how good you are on stage. Go get them Allison!

Okay, she didn’t bring life experience but the kid has soul and makes it work for her every time! That was much better than I expected. She consistently gives the best or one of the best performances every week.

I am having mixed feelings about this season. First, I thought Allison was feeling it, singing in the moment. She’s a natural and every week I get the sense that Simon is moderating his comments carefully and towing the line, paving the way for his TCO. I may be way off base, residing in the grassy knoll and all, but I’m getting a weird vibe about it all. I’m so glad I am not invested at all this season to vote. Oh, well. Allison was great.

Actually, I know very little about what Allison is like. She’s not exactly brimming with personality when she doesn’t sing. So I don’t know if I would walk into a school and find a bazillion Allisons. I doubt it, since not all teens are the same. She could have a wealth of personality we aren’t aware of outside the intense atmosphere of performing and getting critiqued by judges.

Actually, last year there was the same problem–Idol didn’t capture David A. very well at all. The only way you would ever know what he was like was if you watched all the extra stuff online and American Idol Extra. You wouldn’t know that he’s a hell of a funny guy, which has been proven out since the show ended. David A. is really very funny, self-aware, intelligent, and insightful–especially about his career.

But you’re not going to get that on American Idol. All I really know about Allison is that she tends to choose depressing songs. Everything else is we get from her are staged and edited interview bits before the performances, and the highly stressful environment of judges critiques. Hardly an indication of what she’s really like.

Loving Adam. Simple as that. There is him and everyone else. Anoop next best, then Allsion.

Hmmm, Its only Top 8 but it looks like Adam Lambert is the next American Idol, according to the judges. I still dont get all the hype, think he was okay and a bit screechy in parts. not an exciting night over all

Im sorry, I dont get all the adam love on that one. I like his voice, but too me, that wasnt all it was cracked up to be. Just my opinion. None of them were that great to me. Allison was pretty good, and matt was ok, and adam was ok. This season is a snoozefest. I like Kris, but wrong wrong song choice.

What makes me mad was that there were other songs Adam could ahve chosen that would have been so much better, but that’s Adam for you – he goes his own way and he got a standing O from Simon so who am I to complain.

Is it just me, or has the pimpage this year gone off the scale? I blame Simon–who would have thought that Nigel actually kept the pimpage tide at bay. And I thought under Nigel’s rule it was bad.

I don’t think the judges understand constructive criticism anymore. I don’t care what you think of Adam or any other contestant–there’s always room for improvement. Yet only some contestants are given this level of constructive criticism. The chosen few are told they are brilliant by default, regardless of performance.

I think most Idol bloggers and journalists would agree that there have been performances on Idol far more worthy of Simon’s standing O than that one. Simon has given standing ovations before, just not for competition performances (I don’t think)–he gave a standing ovation to a finale night performance last year. And he’s probably given standing ovations to guests.

I don’t know if it’s because they were running over, but Adam’s performance felt sort of rushed. I wasn’t really feeling it. Tracks of My Tears has been his best peformance, IMO.

I’m on the west coast so I haven’t seen the performances, but I tell you, the casual voter is the one to pick winner. Otherwise Kris wouldn’t go from first to last in one week on DI.

Last note on the original performance by Adam, not so great. Last note on the pre-recorded rehearsal footage shown on the re-cap…spot on!

When Adam sings I hear the melody and the notes of the song and it is a package. When other’s sing I hear a note followed by another note, there is no blend.

Favorites tonight: Adam, Allison, with a tie to Matt and Anoop. Needs to go home: Lil and Scott.

As much as I loves Mad World when I was younger, I didn’t love this. It’s okay but it reminded me too much of ToMT and the irritating falsetto spikes wasn’t endearing. I liked Anoop, Allison and Matt. who for me was surprisingly good. Gokey was okay but I liked Archie’s better.

ETA: I listened to it again. Adam sounded better than the first time, so was Matt, Much as I love Pocket Idol, this was a misstep.

Kris fans better get out and vote if Dial Idol is starting off anywhere near correctly. He’s got 0 percent of the vote. Adam is leading – but come one how is Danny possibly number two?

I realize Kris didn’t do great at all tonight, but remember, he’s been consistent in past weeks and so is you’re a fan, don’t let him go out on that performance, esp. when Lil and Scott did much worse…imo.

Adam and Allison were awesome tonight. Allison truly is the only teen I’ve ever liked on this show. I think plenty of her personality has shown through to gauge what she might be like, for better or worse. I’m not in her target demographic so I won’t be buying concert tickets or Allison Iraheta merchandise for a few years but I’ll vote for her and I hope she does well enough that I can sit back and be happy for her success.

TPTB know how to stage a performance that they want to come off as a “moment.” 80% of what people react to is the staging, 20% of it is actual performance. Best way to tell if you’re being pulled in is to close your eyes and listen.

Tonight was a joke. The judges pimped their faves and trashed everyone else…whether or not it was deserved. Kris was doing his ‘jazz homework’ and yet Matt and Danny were praised to the roof for doing the same thing? whatever.

Hey guys, throw some votes to Kris – he is in trouble.

First off, only caught from Scott, am in US to watch live! I want to say WTF!!!! is the problem with Simon and Allison. She was incredible!! He does not want her to win. He couldn’t criticise her vocals so he says she is unlikeable? Last week he attacked her wardrobe. What an ass, STFU!

But Adam, Adam, ADAM!! WoW. I’ve liked him so far, tonight I loved him! My husband loathes AI, teases me for watching it and even he was floored by that. Said he added a new dimension to the song. That was amazing. Up to now I have thought he was clever, a bit OTT sometimes, but that was WoW!

Allison was just ok. She mumbled again so the words were a slurry and SMILED in a song about sadness!

Anoop’s fans might want to be voting – he is low on dial idol. What in the heck is the story with Lil Rounds?!? Who is voting for her?

I only wish Adam hadn’t gone for that last note – it didn’t work and Adam actually sung it off key (didn’t know that was possible) but even the best singers can blow a note on occasion.

Simon’s standing O may have just sealed the title for Adam…I just don’t really feel the need to watch anymore. All the blatantly obvious pimping has really sucked the fun out of the show for me. :\

Oh My God. Missed the first half hour and just started playing it back. Every week, Danny is consistently off-key and usually out of control of his breath — a very mediocre singer — but tonight his pitch was so bad, my daughter and I were literally yelping in pain! WHAT on EARTH does America see in that guy? Will the judges ever give him an accurate review — i.e. will they ever tell him he can’t come close to touching the best singers in this group?

Okay, FINE. I officially give up. I have been waffling in and out of your boat for a while now, Mr. Lambert, and I’ve mostly been halfheartedly rooting for you just because you seem to be the only one who stands a chance against Gokey, but that performance just converted me from a spectator to a fan. Best performance of the entire bloody season, hands down.

That being said, I will still be dialing like a madman for Allison and only for Allison, because she has to at least outlast Lil, if not Danny.

I don’t think Kris deserves to go home just yet. Did he have an off night? Yes. Was it a trainwreck? No. And he’s been very, very consistent up until tonight. Now, if he screws up two weeks in a row, that’s another matter, but at this point, I think he at least deserves to make it over Scott and Lil.

Wow, never realized how hard it was to keep track of DialIdol (eek! doesn’t look good right now), type with one hand, and vote all at the same time…

So Kris hits all of his notes spot on and suffers from a crappy arrangement but he’s all of a sudden AI poison? Meanwhile Danny misses half his notes (again), has a crappy arrangement and he’s brilliant. Grrr…Kris will not go home tonight if I have anything to say about it! He’s been fabulous for the last month, one semi-off night should not condemn him before Scott, Lil, Danny, Anoop, and Matt. In that order, haha.

It unnerves me how Lil is fourth on dial idol, even after weeks of mediocre performances.

Gosh. Just looked at Dial Idol, and I don’t believe my eyes. Just taking time from voting for Kris to say that I believe they may actually use the save tomorrow, if he is last. Really bummed right now, at the same time happy that Allison for once got some credit. Kris has been so dang consistent, don’t want him to go now…

I’ve voted over 100 times for Kris already, only 1 busy. He’s my favorite, this is breaking my heart, even worse than the Alexis elimination.

adam wow. that was really really good!! i also liked matt and alison, but to me he could have sung that in an awards show or something, amazing!

The only thing I want to know is how Kris could possibly be dead last. He wasn’t bad tonight. He may not have been outstanding, but he wasn’t bad. There were worse performances. (Scott, Lil, and for me Anoop). I have been voting constantly. I’m really worried and hope the judges use their save if he is last.

Adam Lambert is my fave Idol ever and that right there was my fave performance ever. AI struck gold with this kid.

She’s so underrated

I can’t believe Kris is so far behind. I thought he had a pretty solid fanbase.

TPTB know how to stage a performance that they want to come off as a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“moment.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  80% of what people react to is the staging, 20% of it is actual performance. Best way to tell if youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re being pulled in is to close your eyes and listen.

I was watching the chat screen and listening and I know what I heard – a “moment.”

However, it won’t be because as we have already seen – people will react negatively to the standing ‘o’ and the pimp spot.

Predictable.

I can’t wait for a video from Adam’s performance, because the dang thing ran over my DVR didn’t. I should have fixed it but I wasn’t thinking about the time.

I give up America (or rather the subset of Americans that still watch American Idol). I tried. But your tastes and my tastes just aren’t meshing anymore. Each week is less fun to watch than the week before. Season 5 I started to waver because you let the best singers go, Season 6 I got your choice since the talent pool wasn’t that great to begin with, Season 7 you let me down and Season 8 I’m just not feeling you. You want Danny? Fine, you’ll get Danny. But don’t be shocked when he doesn’t do anything a year from now. You like guys who sing thinly-toned high notes and you covet spooky mood lighting? Cool. When every song on Adam’s album ends in a super duper high note, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

And that’s why I wanted Mad World for Cookie last season. But I think it worked out for the best.

What makes me mad was that there were other songs Adam could ahve chosen that would have been so much better,

Last week was fun, though I understood people questioning the song choice, but this week, dayum…whole other league. That’s one of my favorite songs not necessarily of that era, but just in general because almost every cover I’ve heard has been pretty damn cool, and Adam actually exceeded my expectations. Some of the things he did with his voice were kind of mind boggling, but in not in the OTT way like say Satisfaction. I mean, when I tried to guess where he’d take each verse, he took it somewhere else. That’s great instincts. Plus the last note was amazing! I might even prefer this to the Donnie Darko (Gary Jules) version.

I think Adam must have talked Terry into staying behind and manning the blue lights for this performance. Either that or Cook fired him again and he needed the work. :tongue1_tb: Seriously though, it was kinda cool the way he dressed in white and the lighting worked with the wardrobe.

Anoop is so reminding me of Castro…not artistically, but trajectory-wise and judges’ commentary wise. Here comes the bus…psyche, never mind….no, we were kidding when we said psyche, we are driving the bus right at you….or are we…. At this rate he could make top 4, and then get critiqued on a performance from the future, at which point I expect him to bitch slap Paula. I liked his performance quite a bit this week. Kris…not as off as the judges made out, but I don’t think he’s an electric guitar kind of guy. I did appreciate him trying to tap into some tude and persona, though he missed the mark a teeny bit, and experimenting again is good. Risk taking always scores points with me when it works out for the best more often than not, and Kris has been pretty solid overall.

I wish I liked Matt as much as they did. Meh. Hate that song, and Matt didn’t change my mind.

Allison FINALLY went for a different emmtional context and a riskier song choice. I liked it a lot, but didn’t LOVE it. I don’t think she quite embodied the sad resignation, but not bad for a 16 year old.

Scotty Hardcore LIVES! OMG. Okay, it was awful, but I think I will throw him a vote for embracing his inner badass and embodying the legend. I wish he would have rocked the axe in the pink pantz, though. Hee!

Kris is pretty much dead in the water right now. Either Dial Idol isn’t working, the phones are not working or America’s forgotten about him. He’s yet to chart on Dial Idol. At. All.

I think Dial Idol mght be messed up. I don’t see how there’s any way Kris is still at 0. Even Megan wasn’t that far behind last week, was she? I would reccomend voting by phone just in case the whole DI program is messed up. I hope the teenyboppers are texting a ton and that’s why he’s last.

Yep – I see the similarities. I hope he makes it this week. He did really well but his dial idol placement concerns me.

My picks went like this

Adam-really fantastic, even though his voice is not a voice I am crazy about.
Allison- She is so good, love her voice.
Matt- I think this was his best performance.
Anoop- He sounded really good.
Danny- was alright, still hate him
Kris-was alright, not great but ok.
Lil-still screaming at me, I have grown to hate the tone of her voice.
Scott-they have let him stay too long. They need to let him leave, I don’t want to hate the blind guy!

Allison was way over praised tonight. First, it was not a new or different arrangement. She DID NOT make it her own. Second, there was no emotion to the song. I know she is 16, but still this song needs strong emotion. Third, the girl has marbles in her mouth. If you hadn’t heard the song before, a full third of the words were unintelligable. Fourth, there was no range. Fifth, enough whisky rasp already!!

I don’t recall Simon ever standing up for a contestant before. Adam was by far amazing tonight. I had tears in my eyes. His artistry and mastery of his voice is amazing. I don’t care if he went first or last, his performance was the most memorable of the night. This season has had 2 moments and so far both of them have been from Adam.

I doubt it. Can’t think of why they would since it wouldn’t exactly be a shock boot which is what it’s supposed to be used for. I doubt he’ll go home but should be in the bottom 3 with that performance.

I’ll say this, I liked Adam tonight. The only time I think he’s good is when he dials it back and this is only the 2nd time he’s done it. I’m still not giving him the win. There’s a lot of weeks left.

Seeing as I’m not fond of the tone of Adam’s vocals, I would have to say no to a moment for me.

I didn’t like Kris but he doesn’t deserve to go home tonight. Matt was just as cheesy. I actually liked Danny though. Lil was bad. So was Scott. Anoop was good but a tad boring. Adam was good. I didn’t see him, I heard him from the next room and he was good. Allison was good too, she just need to work on her enunciation.

The judges in my opinion will use the save on no one but Adam or Danny. Dial Idol may just have a glitch because no one ever shows 0 for this long. Kris could be in the bottom but if he goes home after one mediocre (not bad) night that is pathetic with others still there. Operation save Danny was in full effect by idol imo. I mean the judges could not have heard what they said they heard. It wasn’t sucky but come on. Then they put Kris right after Paula saying everyone had to follow that. Was not his best no, but not the worst of the night and when others rearrange they are artistic but kris they say indulgent. Kara is full of it. They are trying to get one of TCO (danny)’s votes back from Kris.They have been aware of all the Kris stealing Danny’s thunder press this week I am sure.

I see that vftw is now behind Scott. Will it be enough to keep him from going home?

I have always voted only Kris and even last week I always got right through. Lack of Busy isn’t always as bad as it seems.

I don’t know how people can still deny Adam tonight, the guy has shown everything that you can do in a competition like Idol, there is no contestant ever who has had that diversity in his performances.

Tonight was just stunning, the stage presence, the way he connected with the song, the vocals were brilliant and even that last note that began off key, he made it work.

Since this is allegedly a singing competition, and not a personality pageant, I would think that the better vocalists would advance, never mind their song choices, or the lighting, or their clothes, or the judges comments, or their performance order. But, looking at dial-idol this is truly a personal thing and has nothing what-so-ever to do with being the next great recording star. Lil and Danny have their voting block which no one will get a foot hold into…they will sail all the way into the final. (So sad). Scott will always get his sympathy votes. 5 Contestants will share the rest…and since Kris had the iffiest performance of the five he will suffer tonight.

The American public just doesn’t get it!!

Maybe they are messing w/the phone lines over at AI headquarters. Gawwwd I hope that’s why Kris is scoring so low, and not cause AMERICA IS THAT EASY TO MANIPULATE.

So I completely do not get why people are so in love with Adam! I can’t stand him. I did not get tonight’s performance. It was very similar to Tracks in My Tears from two weeks ago.
I really like Kris even if I wasn’t crazy about his performance tonight! It would have been better if there were no brass.

Allison— My favorite of the night.. I just love her style.

Matt— My close second.. he rocks my world.

Adam— Very good, but he is too theatrical. I don’t know what kind of music he’d sing. Also, I wish he’d come out of the closet, even though I understand why he hasn’t.

Kris— Love his voice, but tonight he was just okay to me. He definitely doesn’t deserve to go home tonight.

Danny— Way too raspy for me.. sounds like a poor man’s David Cook and Taylor Hicks mixed together.

Anoop— I’m just not a fan. He is very smug and just tries way too hard to be something he isn’t. He did have a good vocal performance tonight, but I just don’t see myself ever going to an Anoop concert.

Trying to look at it this way: if he is last, he will NOT be singing in the mosh pit, but right before the judges. Guy has a chance to kick it up a few notches and wow’em. Sure hope so.

I love this theme – although it freaks me out a tad to know that I was a teenager when most of these kids were born. When did i get old???? Yikes!

Danny – No doubt, this guy can sing but this song is cheesy lounge fare at best. I don’t know what it is about him that comes off so cocky to me. I think he peaked early and I wouldn’t be sad if he were the Shocking Elimination at any time….he just sounds the same every time to me…

Kris – To me he gets better and better every week. This is a funky little arrangement, but I can totally see him as the hottie young singer surrounded by the girls squealing with delight. Very interesting voice – really cute guy. I don’t think he’s going anywhere anytime soon. And I loved his little “tell Adam I said Hi!” story – so cute!

Lil – I TOTALLY knew she was going to sing this song. And I think she’s overrated. I thought in Hollywood that she was much better than this, but this is pitchy and mediocre. Blah. Lil, what happened???

Anoop – I was worried when I heard he was singing True Colors but it was better than I expected. Nicely done. Although I still can’t see Anoop as the American Idol, even if he WAS born on the same day as David Cook. And holy cow on the pimping – Anoop “I was mean” Simon “No problem, we can be mean back and forth and still love each other” Gag me with a ginzu.

Scott – Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn. And I always loved this song in junior high. He’s so pitchy and off key and would totally not be here were it not for him being blind (sorry, I just think that’s the god’s honest truth) Although what I wouldn’t give for him to come out singing the theme from the Greatest American Hero one week!!!!!! Personally I’d rather see a copy of last year’s top 8 where the winner drops a terrible performance but is safe, is reborn next week, and there’s a shocker. Unfortunately it’s not going to be Adam, so Danny?

I’m also really sad about Lil. What is she doing? She used to be my number 1, now she’s faltered badly. She’s only had 2 good performances in the top 13: her top 13 and her Surrender performance (I’m probably the only one who didn’t hate it at all). Kris has had good performances for the past 3 weeks.

Adam, I don’t want to see his screeching anymore. I heard he toned it down again tonight. Good.

But dammit America, if Kris goes home tomorrow I’m out. Looks like my cool guys are just taking a backseat to Adam and Danny. I still like Danny.

I don’t want my favorite to go out this early. Out of my favorites, only Ruben and Taylor went to win it all. Tamyra and Latoya got shocked out, Constantine came 6th, Chris S got 10th, David A got 2nd…. Kris 8th? NO AMERICA!

Adam was amazing….haunting even. I really do believe he’s unbeatable. I don’t know that Idol has ever been this blatant and obvious with their choice to win. Right or wrong, you can’t fault the guy. He’s earned the praise.

Matt finally sold me tonight. It’s the only performance of his I’ve ever gotten into and I thought for sure he was doomed when I heard his song choice.

Allison has a spectacular voice. ‘Nuff said.

Lil continues to disappoint me. I don’t see her lasting much longer. If she’s not gone this week, she will be next week.

I didn’t think Kris was as bad as the judges made him seem, but it definitely wasn’t comparable to his other performances. I hope he’s not the surprise boot of the season. He’s my second favorite overall after Adam.

Was really worried for Anoop with the song choice and going so early in the line up, but I thought he sung it beautifully…..still think he’ll be in trouble though. :sad_wp:

I think Dial Idol is wonly tonight. I don’t think it’s accurate at all, but even if Kris was at the bottom, I think he’ll get way more text votes from all the fangirlies than Scott, Matt & Anoop.

As for Lil, wtf???? If you look at the busy percentage she is #1 on that!!!! :eek_wp:

I think it’s because they messed up with the timing. The audience probably thinks, “huh? Can I vote now even before Adam sings”?

This kinda screwed up the formulas at DI which focuses more on the first 5-10 minutes after the show ends.

So we can’t really trust DI today.

Ok, everyone needs to stop freaking out about DialIdol. One, everyone is not finished voting yet. 2. the rankings don’t mean anything. Anyone with the numbers 2-8 in their little circle could be going home. Just because Danny is second doesn’t mean he is really in second place. Yes Kris is in trouble, but there is no evidence that Danny or Lil will end the night as strong as they appear right now. Either could be as high as 2 or as low as 8.

I really don’t see how referring to DC is that big a deal. They share the same birthday–it’s a mere fact…

I am not sure if those results on DI are right but if they are it’s not really that surprising.

I’ve been saying that all that hype involving Kris was way too much related to the fact that he had the pimp spot and one of the best performances of the night.

Apparently the only two who have a fanbase whatever they do is Lil and Danny, that makes me really sad.

Does anyone have Adam’s perfomance yet???? My DVR didn’t record the whole freaking show and I’m not very happy.

That’s the problem in two short seasons this is show that was supposed to be a singing contest that is able to transform someone into a superstar and has somehow been transformed into a show about an already packaged artist and performer. Adam’s okay if you like that kind of show but the word artistry has been shoved down our throats this season and prior to last year one of Simon’s favorite line’s was “Let me remind everyone this is a singing competition.”

I hear what you’re saying Gwen, but there have been nights that Danny has been fair-middlin’, but since he’s a TCO this hasn’t hurt his vote too much. Kris has been consistent, why is he having to struggle so much?

Adam is publicly out. He has admitted, on camera, that he is gay. He just hasn’t said it on American Idol, which, to be fair, why should he? It’s not like it matters.

Now wait before you jump down my back.. I think it would just be good for the gay community to have someone who is out and proud of who he or she is. As a gay American, I am constantly disappointed at how American Idol treats its gay contestants. Clay Aiken, for example, always denied that he was gay until recently.

He has a great voice, and tonight he showed that he is pretty versatile. I just think it’d be great if he was like “You know what, I’m gay, but it doesn’t matter because I can sing.” Period.

1. Allison — No words can accurately describe this kid. I’ve got three fives laid out on the table, ready to run to Walmart for her album.

2. Adam — I’ll probably play his video 20 times before morning.

3. Anoop — Wonderful except for the stripes.

4. Matt — He worked it out tonight… the correct way to wear his hat… and the performance wasn’t bad either.

5. Kris — I enjoyed it very much, about like drinking a lite beer. But I was in the mood for something with a twist of lime on the glass and didn’t get it.

6. Danny — Quite dependable every week, but I’m not ready to buy depends yet.

7. Lil — She looked very pretty and her eyes were awesome, but I’ve already quit listening to my old records that sound like that.

8. Scott — I do like his sense of humor. He could go on tour with Rickey Smiley, the “clean” comedian who often does shows with Fantasia.

Does dial idol only record calls made thru a computer using a phone modem? I use cable for my computer and land line for idol voting so mine don’t count.

Perhaps Danny and Lil fans are more apt to use phone modems?

BTW did anyone see Paula’s face while Adam was performing? I think the girl needed a cig… *L*

What a night. Adam really is something else. Just when you think you’ve figured him out…Same with Allison. She pulled back a little this week and it worked! I think the standing O from Simon is a hint that Adam is starting to gain/overthrow Danny. I really wanted Kris to have a another stand out week to solidify top 3/4 status but…we will see. With his lack of screen time, he doesn’t have an early fan base like some of the others.

Since Country week, I’d say his performances were amazing. Tonight, in my opinion, he was back at “Man in the Mirror” level, and that’s not nearly enough.

Add that to the established fan bases of Adam, Lil and Danny, and then top that with Simon’s (overpimping) standing ovation, Scott getting the backing of VFTW, Matt and Anoop bouncing back, and Allison totally topping the vocals of the night, and the very mediocre Kris Allen falls to the bottom.

Looks like Kris is gaining on Scott now on dial idol. Kris should be way, way ahead of him, though.

Danny “Stand By Me”: I do like his voice, the ruff and tumble quality that he brings to each of his numbers. That being said, I think the song lost something in Danny’s version and I can’t put my finger on it. Anyone can rearrange songs. But what separates the great ones from the mediocre ones is heart. No matter what instrumentations, vocal inflections that you add, the song must never lose its heart. And I think this version didn’t quite reach the level Danny was hoping for. BTW, the judges tonguebath of this number bothers me immensely. It wasn’t that good.

Kris: I didn’t think it was terrible. But I did tune out a bit during the number which is usually a bad sign. Kris can sing. To call his gorgeous would be an understatement and each week he’s displaying more and more personality. But again…I think Kris’ version of this song never found its footing and in the process, “KRIS” was lost. I don’t think it’s a big deal. I think he has enough goodwill stored up to survive this minor bump in the road.

Lil: THIS was TERRIBLE. Lil shrieked, gagged, huffed, and screamed her way through this ALL AT THE SAME TIME. No…wait a minute…the gagging was me. She’s not a great singer. No amount of judges pimpage will ever convince me otherwise. She was off-pitch most of the time and it sincerely bothers me that she survives so well every week. I don’t know who the hell is voting for her.

Anoop: Pretty soulful, solid version of a song WAAAY overdone on this show. I think his money is here: where the songs are pretty and give him room to fill them with his soulful sound. He is R/B. Anoop wasn’t wrong about that. But he isn’t dancer/singer R/B. He’s purely singer and I think if he continues to play this card, he can survive to at least the top 6-7. And this year, that’s about the equivalent of a win for him. He might hit the bottom 3; mainly because Lil was awful and her fan base will be voting because the judges tongue bath wasn’t so obvious; and Scott is the cockroach of this competition. You can’t get rid of him if you tried.

Scott: Terrible. Dated. Boring. Off-pitch. Corny. Geez. There were some notes that he sang that I honestly think should NEVER EVER be sung again…I mean my puppy started howling. No joke. That being said, I think he’s a nice guy that is just trying to do his best. I just don’t think it’s good enough.

Allison: Pretty girl. AMAZING vocals. IMO, one of the strongest female singers this show has ever had in terms of interesting vocals, phrasing, and just sheer natural talent. She deserves MUCH MORE than what the American Public is giving her now.

Matt: Much better than last week and LIGHT YEARS ahead of other idol versions of this song. He actually stayed in tune this week. Impressed.

Adam: No words. First off…BEST CHOICE OF SONG. Secondly, vocals were close to flawless. I’m not a HUGE fan of Adam Lambert, but he’s got the goods to take this thing in a cakewalk. I’m still haunted by this version as I’m typing this.

I don’t think there’s danger of Kris going home. They put him in the mosh pit with the young girls for a reason. The girls back home are texting like mad.

Haha, I noticed that– and the mention was apropos of nothing, really. Who else but the diehard DC fans would know his birthday? I’m almost curious enough to check idolforums to see how DC fans react to that mention…

This year is not so much about the artistry but about the complete “package”, so the evolved pre-packaged contestant has a leg up. I think there are followers of the show who still want to see growth and transformation.
I liked his performance tonight, but perhaps some people would like someone like Adam to devolve- sing a strong straight up without resorting to all falsetto or hard edged ascending notes. He might need to take off some layers of makeup and be shot in close up with some lights turned up. Right now, he has a kind of Blanche from Streetcar Named Desire thing going on-all paper lanterns and such.

We’ve past the 1 hour mark. People, you are not going to see any significant changes at DI.

There will be too few busy signals to make an impact as compared to 10 mins after the show ended.

Just gotta pray the text messages make a difference and that what you did was enough.

Adam looked and sounded beautiful. He is truly in a class by himself. During that performance, I felt like I was put under a spell…very haunting and mesmerizing. It will sell a ton on itunes. I just wish the lights would have been up a little more.

In previous seasons, the judges and producers would have passed on Adam to begin with because they would have said he is too “theatrical” (like that’s a bad thing). I think because of this attitude, we have missed out on many would-be idol contenders over the years who could have been amazing but were overlooked.

Kris raw numbers are surging late on DI as people see that Adam is safe already and switch over trying to save Kris.

I’m worried about Kris. :glurps_tb: I thought he would make the Top 5! Of course, I said that about Michael this same week last year.

Lil gets the R&B diva female fanbase all to herself, that’s why she’s never in danger. It’s one of the reasons Syesha got so far last season.

I’ve been trying to vote Kris, but I don’t think West can vote yet. Strange, last year I was able to vote when it ended on the East Coast. I guess the producers changed it? I always get a busy signal if I vote before it ends on the West Coast. Oh well. I’m just gonna burn off my finger and probably vote 1000 times (like I did and failed with Archie during the finale ;_;). Granted, that time I had 4 hours.

Poor rickey’s having problems with his adam’s page this week!

Adam is just too wonderful for words.

Okay, yay. Anoop is four years younger than Cookie. RELIEF.

I have no beef with Danny – but he’s not my favorite by a long shot. I thought he started good, the middle was yuck and lounge singer-ish, and then he ended it well. He did enough in that first slot with his big ol’ fan base where he should be fine. And my family who does not dwell in my Idol bubble loves Danny and his back story, BTW. They think he’s “sweet” and they feel bad for him.

Kris was the wallpaper guy tonight – I don’t even remember what he was singing. I like Kris, he’s a cutie, just doesn’t generate much excitement for me when he isn’t at the top of his game. I hope he doesn’t go home, though. He doesn’t deserve that.

Sigh, Lil. I don’t remember the last time someone looked so good in auditions… and just utterly failed to deliver. She really doesn’t have a clue who she is as a singer and it’s a shame. I thought she looked really good. I just didn’t like her performance and it seemed like it could have been a good choice for her. But… no. She can go home after Scott, unless she suddenly finds herself and knocks it out of the park.

Anoop did a really nice job, I thought. Sweater was not so pretty. But he’s preppy Anoop so it’s all good. I liked him from the start, though he’s not my favorite anymore (that would be Adam & Allison). But he has a really nice voice and I liked his performance tonight. Didn’t make me jump up and down, but I liked it. And go Heels

Scott needs to go. You see, Scott makes me feel like a terrible person. Because he makes me UNCOMFORTABLE – I just can’t stand to watch. He’s all hopeful and try-ish and he just… ugh. He is just not a great singer, and he’s all kinds of awkward there with the guitar. I want him to get back behind the piano if he doesn’t go home. But most of all I want him to go home. He can be really funny but… he’s been in this too long with that average voice. I can’t stop thinking about his wolf teeth when I write this.

I love Allison – that girl can *sing*. I thought she looked really cute tonight and did a great job. I love that husky voice and it does remind me a bit of Kelly Clarkson. I hope she’s not in the bottom 3 this week. She deserves to stay in this for the long run. I’d be very happy with an Adam/Allison final, though I doubt Danny is going anywhere.

I thought Matt was great tonight. He looked so relieved. I thought I was going to hate it when I heard what song he was doing (sorry, Stevie – I love you but that one is just not my favorite)… but I thought he did very well. I think he’s kinda adorable and I really like his voice. His nerves kill him but this week there were only a few wavering spots, I thought.

Adam, Adam, Adam. I just love him. His range is just insane, and I loved that plaintive tone and how he performed the song. Even my 3 yr old was silent and watched raptly . I don’t care if he’s gay, straight, the stepchild of an alien… who cares. I just want to hear him sing!

Kris is gaining on Scott! Yay! If people keep voting he could catch up!

adamandeva, wasn’t this the week that Michael Johns went home last year? I think we’re about ready for a shocking boot, though I don’t want it to be kris.

Thank you, MJ, for putting up Adam’s video. OMG! I listened to Adam’s audio at Rickey’s and couldn’t wait to see the video. Amazing! I absolutely love that song, and Adam takes it to an even higher level. I can’t wait to watch the show. I’m so happy Allison did well too, although, I haven’t heard Allison yet because I’m obsessed with Mad World.

This is truly mesmerizing, no doubt why Simon gave him a standing O.

Danny – I must be the only one who actually liked the arrangement. His vocals were good this week.

Kris – Mosh Pit = Death. Going second = Death. This is totally the second time he’s been in that spot! :mad_tb: I didn’t love this performance. It was okay, but Kris has been consistent and proved how good he could be last week. He does NOT deserve to go home!

Lil – I thought it was karaoke too, but I think this proves even more why four judges is a terrible idea. That ragging on her went on forever. I felt so bad for her.

Anoop – I’m not a fan, but that was really really pretty.

Scott – Uggggh … he’s horrible.

Allison – Thank goodness they gave her the praise she deserves. Kelly Clarkson reference FTW! I must be in the minority ’cause I’ve loved her personality from the get go. “Let’s go make records!”

Matt – I thought it was good, but he was way overpraised.

Adam – I’m not a fan of his either, but I actually liked that.

I’m so turned around now. I thought I would have to resign myself to voting for ALLISON like crazy and losing her anyway, now it turns out that it’s not Allison, but KRIS. Gah … this is like Alexis all over again. Every week so far, the person on the bottom of DialIdol has been the one eliminated. Come on people! Break it! I’m probably alone here in a sea of Adam love, but I DIDN’t love Adam’s Mad World. I thought some of his choices were a bit off, and the notes near the end… blech to my ears…(yeah, I’m alone on this, right?)
I’m also biased because I saw a kid on Australian Idol do the same song a few years ago and it was so believable and such a great interpretation. The singer (Ben McKenzie) was kind of a theatric kid, just like Adam… check it out

Very strange evening. Safe songs. Some worked, others didn’t.

Adam is so far ahead in this competition that I am now looking over my shoulder. Something is coming, I can feel it. This guy is absolutely fabulous; but the closer he gets to the crown, chances increase that the proverbial dirt will hit the fan.

I’m not a Danny fan; but I thought he did a very good job tonight.

Anoop gave a great performance, as well.

Allison was ok; but not my cup of tea.

Kris is a cute kid; but that was a shitty song choice and a bland delivery.

Lil, that was the biggest mess of the evening; but we all know you are not going home, right?

Matt, I just don’t care for your vocals. I cannot stand vocal gymnastics! Hated everything about that performance.

Scott, I love ya, but that was not a very good performance.

Last year DialIdol was off. Michael went home but was listed in fourth place. Even COOKIE was below him! There was less than a 2 point spread between the four, but there’s less than 2 points between Scott and Kris and the night ain’t over…

DialIdol’s bound to be wrong sometime. Kris was not charting for a LONG time tonight. Why can’t it be this week?

That said, I’m going to get up to 500 votes for Kris before voting closes! Only 50ish more!

I don’t get Adam. I didn’t get the performance, (my dog actually starting whimpering during the song, must have been the falsetto). I just can’t picture the kind of record he would make or how it would successful. He is too theatrical for my taste.

I’d like to see Scott go home but really want Anoop, Allison, and Matt to be safe. It wouldn’t bother me if Kris went home. I’ve always thought that Matt, Anoop, and Kris shared some of the same demographic so 1 of them leaving would help the others. I’d be okay with Lil leaving but know that’s not likely at all.

True, he did have the pitch problem, and he DID self-correct. Good for him. More than I can say for other contestants’ pitch problems…

I liked his performance tonight, but perhaps some people would like someone like Adam to devolve- sing a strong straight up without resorting to all falsetto or hard edged ascending notes. He might need to take off some layers of makeup and be shot in close up with some lights turned up. Right now, he has a kind of Blanche from Streetcar Named Desire thing going on-all paper lanterns and such.

LOL! I spit-taked my soda I laughed so hard at the Streetcar reference. Unlike you, I didn’t like Adam’s performance because it was so affected. Yeah, paper lanterns. Allison, on the other hand, is a natural.

I have a theory about singing surrounded by the mosh pit girls. It’s a curse like singing in second. It put Matt in the bottom 2 and may be Kris’ undoing.

I don’t know if anybody has noticed this, but right after Adam’s performance, Kris’s wife, family and friends are giving him a standing ovation, I think… even before his own family gives him one ) I think Kris really appreciates Adam’s talent.

Rewatched Adam’s Mad World, and yeah, it was definitely his best performance. That being said, I get the feeling that like Randy’s ovation for Cook last year, Simon’s ovation may end up hurting the guy. Because let’s face it – if Imagine, Hallelujah, Billie Jean, and fuck it – Summertime/Alone/In A Dream/My Funny Valentine – if none of those got standing ovations from Mr. Cowell, Mad World, however great, certainly didn’t deserve it either. It’s just another sign of overpimping.

Well the voting is over here in Illinois. I voted and voted for Kris. Didn’t seem to make any difference. If he is voted off, at least I will still have Dancing with the Stars to care about this spring.

The judges are running out of time again. Canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t they pace this show right?

It’s hard to get the balance right when they have to demean or dismiss the people who “Shall not make it to the top 3 come he!! or high water” and push, pimp and support the ones that “must” make it. Sometimes it take a little more time than usual to make sure a great performance will seem like goop before voting begins.

Huh, see now being more of a Kara (the I want to feel it artistry artistry artistry chick) than a Randy (the pitchy dawg you can sing the phone book singing competition dude) I thought Adam let his voice crack on purpose and it added to the emmotional weight. It wouldn’t feel right to end that song with a big pretty note. If it was a mistake I’m a little disappointed. Oh well, still thought he was fantastic either way.

DI does seem a little strange tonight, there are usually more than on in the green by now. I finally got the busy-can no longer vote signal for Kris. Now all I can do is hope right?
